Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O Jehovah. ² Let them be ashamed and turned pale, those who seek after my soul; let them be turned backward and blush, those who desire my hurt. ³ Let them be turned back for a reward of their shame, those who say, Aha, aha! ⁴ Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; and let those who love Your salvation say without ending, Let God be magnified. ⁵ But I am poor and needy; make haste to me, O God; You are my help and my deliverer; O Jehovah, wait no longer!

¹ And Ahithophel said to Absalom, Please let me choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David tonight. ² And I will come upon him while he is weary and weak-handed, and I will make him tremble. And all the people with him will flee. And I will strike the king by himself. ³ And I will bring back all the people to you, when all return, except the man whom you are seeking. And your father is a man of war, and will not stay the night with the people. ⁹ Behold, he is hidden now in some pit, or in one of the places. And it shall be, at the falling among them at the first, whoever hears will say, There is a slaughter among the people who follow Absalom. ¹⁰ And also he, the son of valor, whose heart is like the heart of a lion, shall utterly melt. For all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man, and they who are with him are mighty men. ¹¹ Therefore I advise that all Israel be generally gathered to you, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, like the sand that is by the sea for multitude. And you yourself shall go into battle. ¹² And we shall come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him like the dew falls upon the ground. And of all the men that are with him, not even one shall be left. ¹³ And if he has gotten into a city, then all Israel shall bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river until there is not one small stone found there. ¹⁴ And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For Jehovah had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that Jehovah might bring evil on Absalom. ¹⁵ And Hushai said to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, This and this Ahithophel advised Absalom and the elders of Israel, and this and this I have advised. ¹⁶ And now send quickly and tell David, saying, Do not stay in the plains of the wilderness tonight, but speedily pass over, lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people with him. ¹⁷ And Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by En-rogel, for there they might not be seen to come into the city. And a slave-girl went and told them, and they went and told King David. ¹⁸ But a lad saw them and told Absalom. But both of them went away quickly, and came to a man's house in Bahurim, who had a well in his court, into which they went down. ¹⁹ And the woman took and spread a covering over the well's mouth, and spread ground grain on it, and the thing was not known. ²⁰ And when Absalom's servants came to the woman, to the house, they said, Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said to them, They have gone over the brook of water. And they said to David, Arise and pass quickly over the waters, for this is what Ahithophel has advised against you.

⁴ Let them be humbled and put to shame, those who seek after my soul; let them be turned back and be brought to blushing, those who plot evil to me.

Let them not say, We have swallowed him up. ²⁶ Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor together, those who magnify themselves over me. ²⁷ Let those who delight in my justification shout and rejoice; and they shall say without ceasing, The Lord be magnified, delighting in the peace of His servant.

¹⁰ I will greatly rejoice in Jehovah, my soul will be joyful in my God; for He has clothed me with the robes of salvation, He covered me with the robe of righteousness like a bridegroom adorns himself with ornaments, and like a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

¹³ So the Lord Jehovah says, Behold, My servants will eat, but you will be hungry. Behold, My servants will drink, but you will be thirsty. Behold, My servants will rejoice, but you will be ashamed. ¹⁴ Behold, My servants will sing for joy of heart, but you will cry for sorrow of heart, and will howl because of a breaking of spirit.

²⁵ Jehovah is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.

³ And say to the Ammonites, Hear the Word of the Lord Jehovah. So says the Lord Jehovah: Because you said, Aha, against My sanctuary when it was defiled, and against the land of Israel when it was ruined, and against the house of Judah when they went into captivity;

² Son of man, because Tyre has said against Jerusalem, Aha! She is shattered, the doors of the peoples, she has turned to me; I shall be filled; she is laid waste.

²⁰ Truly, truly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. And you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
