⁷ All who see Me mock me; they shoot out the lip; they shake the head, saying,

⁴ I also could speak as you do; if your soul were in my soul's place. I could heap up words against you, and shake my head at you.

¹⁰ They have gaped on me with their mouth; and have scornfully beaten me on the cheek; they gather themselves against me.

⁹ And now I am their song; yea, I am their byword. ¹⁰ They despise me, and they flee far from me; they do not spare spit from my face. ¹¹ Because He has loosed His bowstring and afflicted me, they have also thrown off the bridle before me.

¹⁸ Let the lying lips be put to silence; the lips which speak proudly against the righteous, with pride and scorn.

¹⁵ But in my stumbling they rejoiced, and gathered themselves; the defamers gathered themselves against me, and I knew not; they tore and were not silent, ¹⁶ with the hypocrites, mockers, for a cake, they gnashed on me with their teeth.

¹⁴ You make us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the people.

²⁵ And I became a shame to them; they looked on me; they shook their heads.

²² this is the word which Jehovah has spoken concerning him: The virgin, the daughter of Zion, has despised you and laughed you to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head behind you. ²³ Whom have you mocked and blasphemed? And against whom have you raised your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Even against the Holy One of Israel.

³ He is despised and rejected of men; a Man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as it were a hiding of faces from Him, He being despised, and we esteemed Him not.

⁴ Of whom are you making sport? Against whom do you make a wide mouth and draw out the tongue? Are you not children of transgression, a lying seed,

²⁴ He said to them, Go back, for the little girl is not dead, but sleeps. And they laughed Him to scorn.

⁶⁶ What do you think? They answered and said, He is worthy of death. ⁶⁷ Then they spat in His face and beat Him with the fist. And others struck Him with the palms of their hands, ⁶⁸ saying, Prophesy to us, Christ; who is the one who struck you?

²⁹ And plaiting a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

³⁹ And those who passed by blasphemed Him, shaking their heads, ⁴⁰ and saying, You destroying the temple and building it in three days, save yourself. If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.

²⁹ And Jesus answered and said to them, I will also ask of you one thing, and answer Me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. ³⁰ The baptism of John, was it from Heaven, or from men? Answer Me. ³¹ And they reasoned within themselves, saying, If we shall say, From Heaven, he will say, Why then did you not believe him? ³² But if we shall say, From men, they feared the people, for all held John to be a prophet indeed.

²⁰ And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple off Him and put His own clothes on Him and led Him out to crucify Him.

²⁹ And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads and saying, Aha! You razing the temple and building it in three days,

¹⁴ And being money-lovers, all the Pharisees also heard all these things. And they derided Him.

¹¹ And humiliating Him with his guardsmen, and mocking Him by putting luxurious clothing around Him, Herod sent Him again to Pilate.

³⁵ And the people stood watching. And also the rulers with them, scoffing, saying, He saved others, let Him save Himself, if He is the Christ, the chosen of God. ³⁶ And coming near, the soldiers also mocked Him, and offering Him sour wine, ³⁷ and saying, If You are the king of the Jews, save Yourself. ³⁸ And an inscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek and Latin and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. ³⁹ And one of the hanged criminals blasphemed Him, saying, If you are Christ, save Yourself and us.
