¹ To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. How long will You forget me, O Jehovah? Forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? ² How long shall I take counsel in my heart having sorrow in my heart daily? How long shall my enemy be lifted up over me? ³ Look! Answer me, O Jehovah my God; enlighten my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death, ⁴ lest my enemy say, I have overcome him, and my foes rejoice when I am shaken. ⁵ But I have trusted in Your mercy; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. ⁶ I will sing to Jehovah, because He has rewarded me.

¹⁷ Then My anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them. And I will hide My face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them, so that they will say in that day, Have not these evils come on us because our God is not among us?

⁹ For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear, and shall surround us, and shall cut off our name from the earth. And what will You do for Your great name?

¹ And Hannah prayed and said, My heart rejoices in Jehovah, my horn is exalted in Jehovah. My mouth is enlarged over my enemies because I rejoice in Your salvation.

²⁷ But Jonathan did not hear when his father made the people swear. And he put forth the end of the rod in his hand and dipped it in a honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth. And his eyes were lightened.

²⁹ Then Jonathan said, My father has troubled the land. Please see how my eyes have been lightened because I tasted a little of this honey.

²⁹ And Saul was still more afraid of David. And Saul became David's enemy continually.

¹⁹ For if a man finds his enemy, will he let him go completely away? And may Jehovah reward good for what you have done to me this day.

⁸ And now for a little time grace has been shown from Jehovah our God, to leave us a remnant to escape and to give us a nail in His holy place, so that our God may enlighten our eyes and give us a little life in our bondage.

² And the king said to me, Why is your face sad, since you are not sick? This is nothing but sorrow of heart. Then I was very much afraid.

⁶ And Esther said, The man who is our adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman. And Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.

¹² Am I like the sea, or a whale, that You set a watch over me? ¹³ When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint, ¹⁴ then You scare me with dreams, and terrify me with visions; ¹⁵ so that my soul chooses strangling, death rather than my life.

¹⁹ If I speak of strength, lo, He is mighty! And if of judgment, who shall set me a time? ²⁰ If I justify myself, my own mouth shall condemn me; though I am perfect, He shall declare me perverse. ²¹ Though I were perfect, yet I would not know my soul. I would despise my life.

²⁷ If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will depart from my heaviness and be of good cheer, ²⁸ I am afraid of all my sorrows; I know that You will not hold me innocent.

¹⁵ If I am wicked, woe to me; and if I am righteous, I will not lift up my head, being filled with shame, and looking on my affliction.

²⁴ Why do You hide Your face, and hold me for Your enemy?

⁸ Behold, I go forward, but He is not there; and backward, but I cannot see Him; ⁹ on the left hand, where He works, but I cannot behold Him. He turns to the right, but I do not see Him. ¹⁰ But He knows the way that I take; when He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

¹ To the Chief Musician, for flutes. A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O Jehovah; consider my meditation.

³ My soul also is exceedingly troubled; but You, O Jehovah, how long?

² lest he tear my soul like a lion, tearing it in pieces, and there is no one to deliver.

⁴ if I have rewarded evil to my friend, or if I have delivered one oppressing me without cause; ⁵ let the enemy persecute my soul and take it; yea, let him trample down my life on the earth and lay my honor in the dust. Selah.

² Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings You have ordained strength, because of ones vexing You, to cause the enemy and the avenger to cease.

⁶ The desolations of the enemy have come to an end forever, and You have destroyed the cities; their memorial has perished with them.

¹³ Have mercy on me, O Jehovah; see my trouble from those who hate me, You who lift me up from the gates of death, ¹⁴ so that I may declare all Your praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion; I will rejoice in Your salvation.

¹⁹ Arise, O Jehovah; let not man be strong. Let the nations be judged in Your sight.

¹¹ He has said in his heart, God has forgotten; He hides His face; He will not see forever! ¹² Arise, O Jehovah; O God, lift up Your hand; forget not the humble.

¹⁸ to judge the fatherless and the oppressed, so that the man of the earth may no more terrify.

⁹ from the face of the wicked who strip me. Those against my soul, My foes, encircle me.

²⁸ For You will light my candle; Jehovah my God will make my darkness light.

¹³ Be exalted, O Jehovah, in Your strength; we will sing, and praise Your power.

¹ To the Chief Musician, on the deer of the dawn. A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why have You forsaken me, and are far from my deliverance, and from the words of my groaning? ² O my God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not answer; and in the night, and am not silent.

⁷ All who see Me mock me; they shoot out the lip; they shake the head, saying, ⁸ He trusted on Jehovah; let Him deliver Him; let Him rescue Him, since He delights in Him!

² O my God, I trust in You; do not let me be ashamed, let not my enemies triumph over me.

¹⁹ Look on my enemies; for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred.

⁷ I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy; for You have looked on my affliction; You have known my soul in troubles;

¹⁸ Let the lying lips be put to silence; the lips which speak proudly against the righteous, with pride and scorn.

¹⁰ The wicked has many sorrows, but mercy embraces him who trusts in Jehovah.

¹⁸ Behold, the eye of Jehovah is to those who fear Him, on those who hope in His mercy;

²¹ For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we trust in His holy name. ²² Let Your mercy, O Jehovah, be on us, according as we hope in You.

¹⁷ O Jehovah, how long will You look on? Rescue my soul from their ravages, my only one from the lions.

¹⁹ Let not those who are my lying enemies rejoice over me, those who hate me without cause wink with the eye.

²⁵ Let them not say in their hearts, Aha! Our Soul! Let them not say, We have swallowed him up.

⁷ How precious is Your loving-kindness, O God! And the sons of men take refuge under the shadow of Your wing.

¹⁶ For I said, Hear me, lest they rejoice over me; when my foot slips, they magnify themselves against me. ¹⁷ For I am ready to fall, and my pain is always before me.

⁴ When I remember these things, I pour out my soul on me; for I had gone with the multitude; I went with them to the house of God with the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping the feast.

⁹ I will say to God my rock, Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the cruelty of the enemy? ¹⁰ As with a sword in my bones, my enemies shame me; while they say daily to me, Where is your God?

⁴ Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy; yea, on the harp I will praise You, O God, my God. ⁵ Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why do you moan within me? Hope in God; for I still praise Him, the salvation of my face, and my God.

¹⁴ You make us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the people. ¹⁵ My shame is always before me, and the shame of my face has covered me: ¹⁶ because of the voice of the slanderer and the blasphemer; before the enemy and avenger.

²⁴ Why do You hide Your face, and forget our affliction and distress?

¹² Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

⁸ But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever.

²² Cast your burden on Jehovah, and He will keep you; He will never allow the righteous to waver.

² He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my tower; I shall not be greatly moved.

¹ An Instruction of Asaph. O God, have You cast us off forever? Will Your anger smoke against the sheep of Your pasture?

¹⁰ O God, how long shall the enemy speak evil? Shall the enemy blaspheme Your name forever?

¹⁸ Remember this, the enemy has cursed, O Jehovah, and the foolish people have blasphemed Your name.

² In the day of my trouble I sought Jehovah; my hand was poured in the night, and ceased not; my soul refused to be comforted. ³ I remembered God, and was troubled; I complained, and my spirit fainted. Selah. ⁴ You keep my eyes awake; I am troubled and I cannot speak. ⁵ I have thought on the days of old, the years of ages past. ⁶ I remember my song in the night; I speak with my own heart, and my spirit carefully searches. ⁷ Will the Lord cast off forever? And will He be favorable no more? ⁸ Is His mercy gone forever? Has His Word failed for all generations? ⁹ Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has He in anger shut up His tender mercies? Selah. ¹⁰ And I said, This is my weakness, the years of the right hand of the Most High. ¹¹ I will remember the works of Jehovah; surely I will remember Your wonders of old. ¹² I will also think on all Your work, and talk of Your doings.

⁴ O Jehovah, the God of Hosts, how long will You be angry against the prayer of Your people?

⁵ Will You be angry with us forever? Will You draw out Your anger to all generations?

⁴⁶ How long, Jehovah? Will You hide Yourself forever? Shall Your wrath burn like fire?

¹⁴ Satisfy us early with Your mercy, so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

³ How long shall the wicked, O Jehovah, how long shall the wicked exult? ⁴ They gush; they speak impudent things; all the workers of iniquity speak proudly.

¹⁸ When I said, My foot slips; Your mercy, O Jehovah, held me up. ¹⁹ In the multitude of my thoughts within me Your comforts delight my soul.

⁶ Surely he shall not be moved forever; the righteous shall be remembered forever.

³ The sorrows of death hemmed me in, and the pains of hell took hold on me; I found trouble and sorrow.

⁷ Return to your rest, O my soul; for Jehovah has dealt bountifully with you.

⁷ I will praise You with uprightness of heart when I have learned Your righteous judgments.

⁸¹ KAPH: My soul faints for Your salvation; I hope in Your Word.

¹⁵³ RESH: Look on my affliction, and deliver me; for I do not forget Your Law.

¹ A Song of degrees. I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where shall my help come from? ² My help comes from Jehovah, who made Heaven and earth. ³ He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.

³ Have mercy on us, O Jehovah, have mercy on us; for we are exceedingly filled with scorn. ⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the contempt of those who are at ease, with the scorn of the proud.

⁴ I looked on my right hand, and I watched, but no one recognized me; escape was lost to me; no man cared for my soul. ⁵ I cried to You, O Jehovah; I said, You are my refuge and my portion in the land of the living. ⁶ Hear my cry; for I am brought very low; deliver me from my pursuers; for they are stronger than I. ⁷ Bring my soul out of prison that I may praise Your name; the righteous shall gather around me; for You shall reward me.

³ For the enemy has pursued my soul; he has beaten my life down to the ground; he has made me dwell in darkness, as those long dead. ⁴ And my spirit has fainted within me; my heart has become weary within me.

¹¹ Jehovah takes pleasure in those who fear Him, who hope in His mercy.

³ A man shall not be established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

¹³ A merry heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.

¹⁷ Also all his days he eats in darkness, and he has much sorrow and wrath with his sickness.

² Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; He also has become my salvation.

² But your iniquities have come between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, from hearing.

¹⁹ And they shall fight against you; but they shall not overcome you. For I am with you, says Jehovah, to deliver you.

¹⁸ When I would comfort myself against sorrow, my heart is faint within me.

¹⁸ Why has my pain been without end, and why is my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? You surely are to me like a deceitful brook, waters that cannot be trusted.

³ You said, Woe is me now, for Jehovah has added grief to my sorrow. I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.

³⁹ In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunk so that they may rejoice and sleep a never-ending sleep, and never awaken, says Jehovah.

⁵⁷ And I will make her rulers drunk, also her wise ones, her governors, and her rulers, and her mighty men. And they shall sleep a never-ending sleep and not awaken, says the King whose name is Jehovah of Hosts.

⁵ Her enemies have become as chief; her haters are at ease; for Jehovah has afflicted her for the multitude of her sins. Her children have gone, captive before the enemy.

⁹ Her uncleanness is in her skirts; she did not remember her end, and has gone down astoundingly. There is no comforter for her. O Jehovah, behold my affliction, for the enemy has magnified himself.

¹⁶ For these I weep; my eye, my eye runs down with water, because the comforter who could refresh my soul is far from me. My sons are desolated because the enemy prevails.

¹ Remember, O Jehovah, what has been to us; look down and see our shame.

²⁰ Why do You forget us forever and forsake us the length of days?

¹² And you shall know that I am Jehovah. I have heard all your blasphemies which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, Desolation! They are given to us for food. ¹³ So with your mouth you have boasted against Me, and have multiplied your words against Me. I have heard them. ¹⁴ So says the Lord Jehovah: When the whole earth rejoices, I will make you a ruin. ¹⁵ As you rejoiced at the inheritance of the house of Israel because of desolation, so I will do to you. You shall be a desolation, O Mount Seir and all Idumea, even all of it. And they shall know that I am Jehovah.

⁸ Rejoice not against me, my enemy; for if I fall, I shall arise; for if I sit in darkness, Jehovah shall be a light to me. ⁹ I will bear the fury of Jehovah, because I have sinned against Him, until He pleads my cause and brings out judgment for me. He will bring me out to the light, and I shall behold His righteousness. ¹⁰ Then my enemy shall see it; and shame shall cover her who said to me, Where is Jehovah your God? My eyes shall behold her; now she shall be trampled like the mud of the streets.

¹⁸ yet I will rejoice in Jehovah, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

³⁸ Then He said to them, My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Wait here and watch with Me.

⁴⁷ and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.

²⁰ And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as was spoken to them.

³² a light for revelation to the nations, and the glory of Your people Israel.

⁵³ When I was with you in the temple daily, you did not stretch out your hand on Me. But this is your hour, and the authority of the darkness.

⁶ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.

² that I have great heaviness and continual pain in my heart.

¹⁴ Therefore he says, "Awake, sleeping ones! And arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light."

²⁷ For indeed he was sick, coming near death, but God had mercy on him, and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

²¹ keep yourselves in the love of God, eagerly awaiting the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to everlasting life.

²³ And the city had no need of the sun, nor of the moon, that they might shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it, and its lamp is the Lamb.
