¹⁹ and the cares of this world, and the deceit of riches, and the lust about other things entering in, choke the Word, and it becomes unfruitful.

⁵ Will your eyes fly on it? And it is gone! For surely it makes wings for itself; it flies into the heavens like an eagle.

⁸ There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he has neither son nor brother; yet there is no end to all his labor; and his eyes are not satisfied with riches; and he says, For whom do I labor and take good from my soul? This is also vanity. Yes, it is an evil business.

¹⁰ He who loves silver shall not be satisfied with silver, and he who loves abundance not with gain. This is also vanity. ¹¹ When the good thing increases, those who eat it increase; then what profit is it to its owners, except to see it with their eyes? ¹² The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much; but the abundance of the rich will not allow him to sleep. ¹³ There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for their owners to their hurt. ¹⁴ But those riches perish by evil use. And he brings forth a son, and nothing is in his hand. ¹⁵ As he came forth from his mother's womb naked, he shall return to go as he came. And from his labor he may not carry anything that may go in his hand. ¹⁶ And this also is a sore evil, that in all, as he came, so shall he go; and what profit does he have who has labored for the wind?

² And He fenced it, and gathered out the stones of it, and planted it with choice vines, and built a tower in its midst, and hewed out a wine vat in it; and He looked for it to produce grapes. And it produced wild grapes.

⁴ What more could have been done to my vineyard that I have not done in it? Who knows? I looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded rotten grapes.

¹⁰ And now also, the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bring forth good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire.

²³ Then Jesus said to His disciples, Truly I say to you that a rich man will with great difficulty enter into the kingdom of Heaven.

⁴¹ And Jesus answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things.

¹⁷ And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room in which to store my fruits? ¹⁸ And he said, I will do this. I will pull down my barns and build bigger ones, and I will store all my fruits and my goods there. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat drink and be merry. ²⁰ But God said to him, Fool! This night your soul shall be required of you, then whose shall be those things which you have prepared? ²¹ So is he who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.

²⁹ And do not seek what you shall eat, nor what you shall drink, and stop being in anxiety. ³⁰ For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you have need of these things.

¹⁸ And all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said to him, I have bought a piece of ground, I must go and see it. I beg you, have me excused. ¹⁹ And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I beg you, have me excused. ²⁰ And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

³⁴ And take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts are weighed down with headaches and drinking and anxieties of this life; and that day should suddenly come on you;

² Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away. And every one that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bring forth more fruit.

⁶ Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

⁹ But they who will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts which plunge men into destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all evils, of which some having lusted after, they were seduced from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

¹⁷ Charge the rich in this world that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, He offering to us richly all things to enjoy,

¹⁰ For Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and he has departed to Thessalonica. Crescens went to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.

⁷ (For the earth which drinks in the rain that comes often upon it, and brings forth plants fit for those by whom it is dressed, receives blessing from God. ⁸ But that which bears thorns and briers is rejected and is a curse, whose end is to be burned.)

² in order no longer to live in the lusts of men, but in the will of God the remaining time in the flesh. ³ For the time of life which is past is enough for us to have worked out the will of the nations, having gone on in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, parties, carousings, and abominable idolatries.

⁸ For if these things are in you and abound, they make you to be neither idle nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁵ Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him, ¹⁶ because all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. ¹⁷ And the world passes away, and the lust of it, but he who does the will of God abides forever.

¹² These are sunken rocks in your love feasts, feasting together with you; feeding themselves without fear; waterless clouds being carried about by winds; fruitless autumn trees, having died twice, having been plucked up by the roots;
