His wrath burned against Job, because he had justified himself rather than God. ³ Also his wrath was kindled against his three friends, because they had found no answer and had condemned Job. ⁴ And Elihu had waited beside Job with words, because they were older than he in days. ⁵ When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled. ⁶ And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and you are very old; therefore I was afraid, and dared not show you my opinion. ⁷ I said, Days should speak, and the multitude of years should teach wisdom. ⁸ But a spirit is in man giving them perception, even the breath of the Almighty. ⁹ It is not the great that are wise, nor the aged who understand judgment. ¹⁰ Therefore I say, Listen to me. I also will declare my opinion. ¹¹ Behold, I waited for your words; I listened to your reasons, while you searched out what to say. ¹² Yes, I listened to you, and, behold, not one of you proved Job wrong nor answered his words, ¹³ that you do not say, We have found out wisdom. God has pushed him down, not man. ¹⁴ And he has not directed his words against me; and I will not answer him with your words. ¹⁵ They are broken; they answer no more; words have left them. ¹⁶ Shall I wait because you do not speak, because they stand still, answering no more? ¹⁷ I also will answer my part; I also will declare my wisdom. ¹⁸ For I am full of words; the spirit within me presses on me. ¹⁹ Behold, my breast is as wine which has no vent; it bursts like new wineskins. ²⁰ I will speak so that I may be refreshed; I will open my lips and answer. ²¹ I will not now lift up the face of a man, nor eulogize any man, ²² For I do not know how to eulogize; else after a little my Maker would take me away.

³² You shall rise up before the gray head and honor the face of the old man, and fear your God. I am Jehovah.

² And Jehovah said to Gideon, The people with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel boast themselves against Me, saying, My own hand has saved me.

²⁸ And his oldest brother Eliab heard when he spoke to the men. And Eliab's anger was kindled against David. And he said, Why have you come down? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the naughtiness of your heart. For you have come down to see the battle. ²⁹ And David said, What have I done now? Was it not only a word? ³⁰ And he turned from him toward another, and spoke according to this word. And the people answered him again in the same way.

¹⁷ And your handmaid said, The word of my lord the king shall now be comforting. For as an angel of God, so is my lord the king, to see what is good and bad. And Jehovah your God will be with you.

²⁰ Your servant Joab has done this thing to change the face of the matter. And my lord is wise according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all that is in the land.

¹² behold, I have done according to your words. Lo, I have given you a wise and an understanding heart, so that there was none like you before you, and after you none shall arise like you.

²⁸ And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged. And they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to do judgment.

²⁹ And God gave Solomon exceeding great wisdom and understanding, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the seashore.

⁶ And King Rehoboam talked with the old men who had stood before Solomon his father while he still lived, and said, How do you advise to return a word to this people? ⁷ And they spoke to him, saying, If you will be a servant to this people today, and will serve them and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever. ⁸ But he left the counsel of the old men which they had advised him, and talked with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.

²¹ And he said, I came naked out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return there. Jehovah gave, and Jehovah has taken away. Blessed be the name of Jehovah.

¹⁰ But he said to her, You speak as one of the foolish ones speak. What? Shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

⁹ By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of His nostrils they are destroyed.

¹² And a word was secretly brought to me, and my ear received a little of it. ¹³ In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, ¹⁴ fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones shake. ¹⁵ And a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up. ¹⁶ It stood still, but I could not tell the form of it. An image was before my eyes; silence; then I heard a voice, ¹⁷ Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his Maker? ¹⁸ Behold, He puts no trust in His servants, and His angels He charges with folly! ¹⁹ How much less in those who live in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth? ²⁰ They are destroyed from morning till evening; they perish forever without anyone caring. ²¹ Is not their tent cord plucked up within them? They die, but not with wisdom.

²⁷ Behold this: we have searched it; it is so. Hear it and know for yourself.

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, their fury is drinking my spirit; the terrors of God are set against me.

²⁴ Teach me, and I will be silent; and cause me to understand where I have gone astray. ²⁵ Right words are powerful, but what does your arguing argue?

²⁹ Turn back, please let there be no sin; yea, return again, my righteousness is in this matter.

⁶ if you were pure and upright, surely now He would awake for you, and make the dwelling-place of your righteousness blessed.

⁸ For please ask of the former age, and prepare yourself to the search of their fathers, ⁹ for we are but of yesterday and know nothing, because our days on earth are a shadow. ¹⁰ Shall they not teach you, and tell you, and speak words out of their heart?

² I will say to God, Do not condemn me; make me know why You contend with me. ³ Is it good to You that You should press down, that You should despise the work of Your hands, and shine on the counsel of the wicked?

⁷ You know that I am not wicked; and there is none who can deliver out of Your hand.

²⁰ He removes the speech of the men of trust, and takes away the understanding of the aged.

⁵ Oh that you would stop speaking entirely! And it would be your wisdom.

And behold the leading stars, for they are high. ¹³ And you say, What does God know? Can He judge through the dark cloud? ¹⁴ Clouds are a covering to Him, so that He does not see; and He walks in the circuit of Heaven. ¹⁵ Do you keep to the old way which wicked men have walked? ¹⁶ They were seized, but there was not time; their foundation was poured out by a flood; ¹⁷ who said to God, Depart from us; and, What can the Almighty do to them? ¹⁸ Yet He filled their houses with substance; and the wisdom of the wicked is far from me. ¹⁹ The righteous see it, and are glad; and the innocent laugh them to scorn. ²⁰ Truly our foe is not cut down, and fire has eaten their wealth. ²¹ Now be of service with Him, and be at peace. Good shall come to you by them. ²² Please receive the Law from His mouth and lay up His words in your heart. ²³ If you return to the Almighty, you shall be built up; you shall put away injustice far from your tents. ²⁴ Then you shall lay up gold like dust, and among the rock of the torrents of Ophir. ²⁵ Yea, the Almighty shall be your gold and silver, and strength to you. ²⁶ For then you shall have your delight in the Almighty, and shall lift up your face to God. ²⁷ You shall make your prayer to Him, and He shall hear you, and you shall pay your vows. ²⁸ You shall also order a thing, and it shall be fulfilled to you; and the light shall shine on your ways. ²⁹ For they have humiliated you, and you shall say, Pride! And He shall save the lowly of eyes. ³⁰ He shall deliver one not innocent, and will deliver by the pureness of your hands.

⁷ There the righteous might reason with Him; and I would be delivered forever from my Judge.

² How have you helped the powerless, or saved the arm that has no strength? ³ How have you advised those not wise, or fully declared wise plans? ⁴ To whom have you spoken words? And whose spirit came from you?

And what is the inheritance from the Almighty on high? ³ Is not disaster to the perverse, and calamity to the workers of iniquity? ⁴ Does He not see my ways, and count all my steps? ⁵ If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot has hurried to deceit, ⁶ let me be weighed in an even balance so that God may know my uprightness. ⁷ If my step has turned out of the way, or my heart has walked after my eyes, and if any blot has held fast to my hands; ⁸ then let me sow, and let another eat; and let my harvests be rooted out. ⁹ If my heart has been enticed by a woman, or I have laid wait at my neighbor's door, ¹⁰ then let my wife grind to another, and let others bow down on her. ¹¹ For that would be an evil purpose; yea, it would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges. ¹² For it is a fire that devours to the Place of Ruin, and it would root out all my gain. ¹³ If I despised the cause of my man servant or of my slave-girl, when they argued with me; ¹⁴ what then shall I do when God rises up? And when He calls me to account, what shall I answer Him? ¹⁵ Did not He who made me in the womb make him? And did not One shape us in the womb? ¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail, ¹⁷ or have eaten my bit alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it, ¹⁸ for from my youth he grew up with me, as with a father, and from my mother's womb I guided her; ¹⁹ if I have seen any perish for lack of clothing, or there was no covering for the needy; ²⁰ if his loins have not blessed me, and he warmed himself with the fleece of my flock; ²¹ if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless when I watched over my help in the gate; ²² then let my arm fall from the shoulder blade, and let my arm be broken from the elbow. ²³ For trouble from God is a terror to me, and I could not do anything because of His highness. ²⁴ If I have made gold my hope, or have called fine gold my trust; ²⁵ if I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much; ²⁶ if I looked to the light when it shone, or the moon walking in brightness, ²⁷ and my heart has been secretly enticed, or my mouth has kissed my hand; ²⁸ this also would be an iniquity for the judges; for I would have denied the God above. ²⁹ If I rejoiced at the ruin of my hater, and I was excited when evil found him; ³⁰ also I have not allowed my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse; ³¹ if the men of my camp did not say, Who can find one who has not been satisfied with his meat? ³² The stranger did not sleep in the street, for I opened my doors to the traveler. ³³ If I covered my transgressions like Adam, by hiding my iniquity in my bosom, ³⁴ then let me tremble before a great multitude, and be terrified by the scorn of families; and I will be silent and not go out the door. ³⁵ Oh that I had one to hear me! Behold my mark. Let the Almighty answer me, and my Accuser write an indictment. ³⁶ Surely I would carry it on my shoulder, and bind it like crowns to me. ³⁷ I would declare to Him the number of my steps; like a prince I would go near Him. ³⁸ If my lands cry against me, or its furrows weep together; ³⁹ if I have eaten its strength without silver, or have caused its owner to expire, ⁴⁰ let thorns come forth instead of wheat, and weeds instead of barley. ¹⁶ then He opens the ear of men and seals their teaching,

⁵ For Job has said, I am righteous; and God has taken away my right; ⁶ should I lie against my right? My wound cannot be cured; I am without rebellion.

¹⁷ Shall one who hates right govern? And will you condemn Him who is just and mighty? ¹⁸ Who says to a king, O worthless one; and to nobles, O evil one? ¹⁹ How much less to Him who does not lift up the face of rulers, nor regard the rich before the poor? For all of them are the work of His hands.

² Do you think this to be right, you that say, I am more just than God? ³ For you say, What will it benefit you? And, What good shall I have more than if I had sinned? ⁴ I will answer your words, and your friends with you.

¹¹ who teaches us more than the animals of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?

³⁶ Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the mind?

⁸ Will you also set aside My judgment? Will you condemn Me so that you may be justified?

² They speak vanity each one with his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak. ³ Jehovah shall cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that speaks proud things,

¹¹ Come, listen to me, my sons; I will teach you the fear of Jehovah. ¹² Who is the man that desires life, and loves days, that he may see good?

³ My heart was hot within me; while I was musing, the fire burned; I spoke with my tongue:

⁹ For the zeal of Your house has eaten Me up; and the reproaches of those who reproached You have fallen on Me.

¹ The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; ² to know wisdom and instruction; to recognize the words of understanding; ³ to receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and uprightness; ⁴ to give sense to the simple, knowledge and judgment to the young man;

⁶ For Jehovah gives wisdom; out of His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

⁶ Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things. ⁷ For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is hateful to my lips.

³¹ The gray head is a crown of glory, if it is found in the way of righteousness.

²⁸ Even a fool, when he is silent, is counted wise, and he who shuts his lips is counted as a man of understanding.

⁹ And more than that, the preacher was wise; he still taught the people knowledge. Yes, he listened, and looked, and set in order many proverbs. ¹⁰ The preacher sought to find out pleasing words; and words of truth written by the upright.

²¹ Woe to those wise in their own eyes, and bright in their own sight!

⁵ And I declared it to you from the beginning. Before it happened I revealed it to you; lest you should say, My idol has done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, has commanded them.

⁷ They are created now, and not from the beginning; even before the day when you did not hear them; lest you should say, Behold, I knew them.

⁵ I will go up for myself to the great men, and will speak to them; for they have known the way of Jehovah and the judgment of their God. But these have broken the yoke together and have torn off the bonds!

²³ So says Jehovah, Do not let the wise glory in his wisdom, nor let the mighty glory in his might; do not let the rich glory in his riches;

⁹ Then I said, I will not mention Him, nor speak in His name any more. But His Word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with holding in, and I could not stop.

¹⁴ So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of Jehovah was strong on me. ¹⁵ Then I came to the exiles at Tel-at-abib, who lived by the river Chebar. And I sat where they sat; and I also dwelt seven days, being stricken dumb among them. ¹⁶ And it happened at the end of seven days, even it happened that the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ¹⁷ Son of man, I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel. Therefore hear the Word of My mouth, and give them warning from Me. ¹⁸ When I say to the wicked, You shall surely die; and you do not give him warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked one shall die in his iniquity; but I will require his blood at your hand. ¹⁹ Yet if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul. ²⁰ And when the righteous turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and when I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die. Because you have not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at your hand. ²¹ But if you warn the righteous so that the righteous does not sin, and if he does not sin, he shall surely live because he is warned; also you have delivered your soul. ²² And the hand of Jehovah was on me there. And He said to me, Arise, go out into the plain, and I will talk with you there. ²³ Then I arose and went out into the plain; and, behold, the glory of Jehovah stood there, like the glory which I saw by the river Chebar. And I fell on my face. ²⁴ And the Spirit entered into me and set me on my feet; and spoke with me, and said to me, Go, shut yourself inside your house! ²⁵ But you, O son of man, behold, they shall put bands on you and shall bind you with them, and you shall not go out among them. ²⁶ And I will make your tongue cling to the roof of your mouth, so that you shall be dumb and shall not be one who warns them. For they are a rebellious house. ²⁷ But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them, So says the Lord Jehovah: He who hears, let him hear; and he who stops his ears, let him stop; for they are a rebellious house.

³ Behold, you are wiser than Daniel; all secret things are not hidden from you!

¹⁷ As for these four boys, God gave them knowledge and skill in all writing and wisdom. And Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

²¹ And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.

¹³ So the understanding ones shall keep silent in that time; for it is an evil time.

⁷ Jehovah also shall save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the people of Jerusalem may not be magnified above Judah.

²³ And then I will say to them I never knew you! Depart from Me, those working lawlessness!

¹⁷ Nor do men put new wine into old wineskins; else the wineskins burst, and the wine runs out, and the wineskins perish. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved together.

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank You, O Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the sophisticated and cunning, and revealed them to babes.

¹⁶ And they sent their disciples out to Him along with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that you are true, and that you teach the way of God in truth. Nor do you care for anyone, for you do not regard the person of men.

²² When they heard these words, they marveled, and they left Him and went away.

²⁶ The second also did likewise, and the third, to the seventh.

³⁴ But hearing that He had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees were gathered together.

⁴⁶ And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor did anyone dare from that day to question Him any more.

⁵ And looking around on them with anger, being grieved because of the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, Stretch out your hand! And he stretched it out. And his hand was restored whole, like the other.

²⁹ But he, willing to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor?

⁴⁸ Is it not true that not any of the rulers or of the Pharisees have believed into him?

¹¹ Jesus answered, You could have no authority against Me unless it were given to you from above. Therefore he who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.

²⁰ For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

²² And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god and not of a man! ²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give God the glory. And he was eaten by worms and gave up the spirit.

² And being called, Tertullus began to accuse, saying, ³ Since we enjoy great quietness by you, and very worthy deeds are done to this nation due to your forethought, in everything and everywhere, most noble Felix, we accept with all thankfulness.

⁵ For we have found this man pestilent, and moving rebellion among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes,

¹³ Nor can they prove the things of which they now accuse me.

⁷ Therefore give to all their dues; to the one due tax, the tax; tribute to whom tribute is due, fear to whom fear is due, and honor to whom honor is due.

¹⁹ For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will set aside the understanding of the perceiving ones." ²⁰ Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the lawyer of this world? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? ²¹ For since, in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom did not know God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe.

²⁶ For you see your calling, brothers, that not many wise men according to the flesh are called, not many mighty, not many noble. ²⁷ But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

⁷ But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, which God has hidden, predetermining it before the world for our glory; ⁸ which none of the rulers of this world knew (for if they had known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory).

¹⁰ But God has revealed them to us by His Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God. ¹¹ For who among men knows the things of a man except the spirit of man within him? So also no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. ¹² But we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit from God, so that we might know the things that are freely given to us by God.

¹⁸ Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool so that he may be wise.

²⁵ But concerning virgins, I have no commandment from the Lord. Yet I give my judgment, as one who has obtained mercy from the Lord to be faithful.

⁴⁰ But she is happier if she so remains, according to my judgment. And I also think that I have the Spirit of God.

⁸ For through the Spirit is given to one a word of wisdom; and to another a word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit;

¹³ For if we are out of our mind, it is to God; or if we are in our senses, it is for you. ¹⁴ For the love of Christ constrains us, judging this, that if one died for all, then all died;

¹⁰ For now do I persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I yet pleased men, I would not be a servant of Christ.

²⁶ Be angry, and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down upon your wrath,

⁵ For neither at any time did we use flattering words, as you know, nor with pretense of covetousness; God is witness.

⁷ desiring to be teachers of the law, neither understanding what they say nor that which they affirm.

¹ Do not sharply rebuke an elder, but exhort as a father, and the younger ones as brothers,

¹⁶ All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

⁶ Likewise exhort the young men to be discreet;

¹² For indeed because of the time, you ought to be teachers, you have need that one teach you again what are the first principles of the oracles of God. And you have become in need of milk, and not of solid food.

⁵ But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and with no reproach, and it shall be given to him.

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.

⁶ But you dishonored the poor one. Do not rich men oppress you and draw you before the judgment seats? ⁷ Do they not blaspheme that worthy Name by which you are called?

⁵ Likewise, younger ones, be subject to older ones, and all being subject to one another. Put on humility. For God resists proud ones, but He gives grace to the humble.
