³ He is despised and rejected of men; a Man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as it were a hiding of faces from Him, He being despised, and we esteemed Him not. ⁴ Surely He has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

¹² Therefore I will divide to Him with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong; because He has poured out His soul to death; and He was counted among the transgressors; and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for transgressors.

⁷ Is it not to break your bread to the hungry, and that you should bring home the wandering poor? When will you see the naked and cover him; and you will not hide yourself from your own flesh? ⁸ Then shall your light break out as the dawn, and your health shall spring out quickly; and your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of Jehovah shall gather you.

¹¹ At that time it shall be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A dry wind from the high places in the wilderness toward the daughter of My people, not to sift nor to cleanse. ¹² A wind more full than these shall come for Me. Now also I will utter judgments against them.

¹⁹ My bowels, my bowels! I convulse in pain. O walls of my heart! My heart is restless within me; I cannot be silent because you have heard, O my soul, the sound of the ram's horn, the alarm of war.

¹⁸ The sons gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger.

¹⁵ We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, but behold, trouble!

¹⁷ But if you will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride. And my eye shall weep sore and run down with tears, because Jehovah's flock was captured.

¹⁹ Have You utterly rejected Judah? Or has Your soul hated Zion? Why have You stricken us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; and for the time of healing, and behold, trouble!

¹⁸ Why has my pain been without end, and why is my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? You surely are to me like a deceitful brook, waters that cannot be trusted.

²⁰ Should evil be repaid for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before You to do good for them, and to turn away Your wrath from them.

¹⁴ All your lovers have forgotten you; they do not seek you. For I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the greatness of your iniquity; because your sins are many.

²⁰ Is Ephraim My dear son? Is he a delightful child? For as often as I spoke against him, I earnestly remember him still. Therefore My heart is troubled for him; I will surely have mercy on him, says Jehovah.

⁶ And they took Jeremiah and threw him into the pit of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, which was in the court of the prison. And they let Jeremiah down with ropes. And there was no water in the pit, only mud. So Jeremiah sank into the mud.

²⁰ Behold, O Jehovah, for I am in trouble; my inward parts ferment; my heart is turned within me, for I have grievously rebelled. On the outside the sword bereaves; in the house it is as death.

¹¹ My eyes fail with tears; my inward parts ferment; my liver is poured on the ground for the ruin of the daughter of my people, in that the children and the babies faint in the streets of the city.

¹ I the man have seen affliction by the rod of His wrath. ² He has led me and made me go in darkness and not into light. ³ Surely He turned against me; He turns His hand all the day. ⁴ He has wasted my flesh and my skin; He has broken my bones.

⁸ Also when I cry and shout, He shuts out my prayer.

¹⁴ I was a mockery to all my people, their song all the day.

⁴⁴ You have wrapped Yourself with a cloud from any prayer passing through.

⁶³ Behold their sitting down and their rising up; I am their song.

⁸ Their appearance is blacker than soot; they are not recognized in the streets; their skin has shriveled on their bones; it is dried up; it has become like wood.

¹⁰ Our skin is hot like an oven because of the fever heat of famine.

¹⁵ The joy of our heart has ceased; our dance has turned into mourning.

² You shall burn a third part with fire in the middle of the city, when the days of the siege are fulfilled; and you shall take a third part and beat around it with a sword; and you shall scatter a third part in the wind, and I will draw out a sword after them.

²⁵ They shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field, and they shall make you eat grass like oxen. And they shall wet you with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He will.

²⁷ Therefore, O king, let my advice be pleasing to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor, whether there will be duration to your prosperity.

And he was driven from men, and ate grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the heavens, until his hair had grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

¹⁸ Then the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting. And diversions were not brought before him; and his sleep fled from him.

¹⁹ The wind has bound her up in her wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.

⁴ O Ephraim, what shall I do to you? O Judah, what shall I do to you? For your goodness is like a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goes away.

³ Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud and as the early dew that passes away, as the chaff storm-driven out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.

¹⁴ Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah: I was no prophet, nor was I a prophet's son. But I was a herdsman and a gatherer from sycamore trees.

⁸ Therefore I will wail and howl; I will go stripped and naked; I will make a wailing like jackals, mourn like the daughters of an ostrich.

¹² For be grieved for good, the dweller of Maroth, for evil came down from Jehovah to the gate of Jerusalem.

¹⁵ And with great anger I am angry at the nations at ease; in that I was but a little angry, and they gave help for evil.

⁸ I also cut off three shepherds in one month; and my soul was impatient with them, and their soul also despised me.

³ and I hated Esau and made his mountains a desolation, and his inheritance to be for the jackals of the wilderness.

²³ But He did not answer her a word. And His disciples came and begged Him, saying, Send her away, for she cries after us.

⁵⁶ But all this happened that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples fled, forsaking Him.

⁶⁷ Then they spat in His face and beat Him with the fist. And others struck Him with the palms of their hands,

³⁰ And spitting at Him, they took the reed and struck at His head.

³⁹ And those who passed by blasphemed Him, shaking their heads, ⁴⁰ and saying, You destroying the temple and building it in three days, save yourself. If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross. ⁴¹ And in the same way also the chief priests mocked, with the scribes and elders, saying, ⁴² He saved others, but he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. ⁴³ He trusted in God, let Him deliver Him now, if He will have Him. (For He said, I am the Son of God.) ⁴⁴ And also the thieves who were crucified with Him reviled Him, saying the same.

²⁴ And she went out and said to her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.

⁶⁵ And some began to spit on Him, and to cover His face and to beat Him, and to say to Him, Prophesy! And the under-officers struck Him with slaps.

¹⁷ And they clothed Him with purple and plaited a crown of thorns and put it around His head. ¹⁸ And they began to salute Him, Hail, King of the Jews! ¹⁹ And they struck Him on the head with a reed, and spat on Him, and placing the knees, they bowed to Him. ²⁰ And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple off Him and put His own clothes on Him and led Him out to crucify Him.

¹⁶ And he was longing to fill his belly with the husks that the pigs ate, and no one gave to him.

⁴¹ And as He drew near, He beheld the city and wept over it,

¹⁴ Pilate said to them, You have brought this Man to me as perverting the people. And behold, having examined Him before you, I have found no fault in this Man regarding those things of which you accuse Him;

¹⁸ And they all cried out at once, saying, Away with this One! And release to us Barabbas

³⁵ And the people stood watching. And also the rulers with them, scoffing, saying, He saved others, let Him save Himself, if He is the Christ, the chosen of God.

³⁹ And one of the hanged criminals blasphemed Him, saying, If you are Christ, save Yourself and us.

³⁵ Jesus wept.

⁵ But the disobeying Jews becoming jealous, and having taken aside some wicked men of the market-loafers, and gathering a crowd, they set all the city in an uproar. And coming on the house of Jason, they sought to bring them out to the mob.

¹⁵ Rejoice with rejoicing ones, and weep with weeping ones;

⁹ As it is written, "He scattered; he has given to the poor; his righteousness remains forever."

¹² One of them, a prophet of their own, said, Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.

²⁷ And as it is appointed to men once to die, but after this the judgment,

³⁸ The world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains and dens and caves of the earth.

²⁶ If anyone thinks to be religious among you, yet does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is vain.

⁶ Therefore be humbled under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time,

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every freeman, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains.
