⁷ And now so says Jehovah, the God of Hosts, the God of Israel: Why do you commit this great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman, child and babe, out of Judah, to leave you none to remain;

³⁸ The fire-pans of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them into broad plates, a covering for the altar; for they offered them before Jehovah, therefore they are made holy. And they shall be a sign to the sons of Israel.

²⁵ The sword outside, and the terror inside, shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the suckling also with the man of grey hairs.

²¹ And they completely destroyed all in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.

¹¹ And this is the thing that you shall do. You shall utterly destroy every male and every woman who has lain with man.

³ Now go and strike Amalek, and completely destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

¹⁹ And he struck Nob, the city of the priests, with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and babes, and oxen, and asses, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

¹⁸ And they lie in wait for their own blood; they watch secretly for their own lives.

²² His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sin.

³⁶ But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; all who hate me love death.

³² He who refuses instruction despises his own soul, but he who hears reproof gets understanding.

¹⁹ Do they vex Me? says Jehovah. Is it not themselves, to the shame of their own faces?

²¹ For death has come up into our windows, and has entered into our houses, to cut off the children from outside and the young men from the streets.

⁷ Yet you have not listened to Me, says Jehovah, so that you might provoke Me with the works of your hands, for harm to you.

¹⁹ Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah indeed put him to death? Did he not fear Jehovah, and pray to Jehovah, and Jehovah repented of the evil which He had spoken against them? So we are doing great evil against our souls.

²⁰ For you used deceit against your souls when you sent me to Jehovah your God, saying, Pray for us to Jehovah our God; and according to all that Jehovah our God shall say, so declare to us, and we will do it.

⁸ in that you provoke Me to wrath with the works of your hands, burning incense to other gods in the land of Egypt where you have gone to live, that you might cut yourselves off and that you might be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?

¹¹ So Jehovah of Hosts, the God of Israel, says this: Behold, I will set My face against you for evil, and to cut off all Judah. ¹² And I will take the remnant of Judah, who have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to live there; and they shall all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt. They shall be destroyed by the sword and by the famine. They shall die, from the least even to the greatest, by the sword and by the famine; and they shall be a curse, a wonder, and a shame, and a reproach.

¹⁴ So that none of the remnant of Judah who has gone into the land of Egypt to live there shall escape or remain, that they should return into the land of Judah to which they have a desire to return to live there. For none shall return except those who escape.

²⁷ Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good. And all the men of Judah in the land of Egypt shall be destroyed by the sword and by the famine, until there is an end of them. ²⁸ Yet the small number that escapes the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah; and all the remnant of Judah (who have gone into the land of Egypt to live there) shall know whose word shall stand, Mine or theirs.

²² Also with you I will shatter man and woman; and with you I will shatter old and young; and with you I will shatter the young man and the girl.

¹¹ My eyes fail with tears; my inward parts ferment; my liver is poured on the ground for the ruin of the daughter of my people, in that the children and the babies faint in the streets of the city.

¹¹ Say to them: As I live, says the Lord Jehovah, I have no delight in the death of the wicked, except in the turning of the wicked from his way, and so to live. Turn, turn from your evil ways; for why will you die, O house of Israel?

¹⁰ You have planned shame to your house, to make an end of many people, and are sinning in your soul.
