¹ And Jericho was completely shut up because of the sons of Israel. None went out and none came in. ² And Jehovah said to Joshua, See, I have given Jericho into your hand, and its king, and the mighty men of war. ³ And you shall go around the city, all the men of war. Go around the city once. So you shall do for six days. ⁴ And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of ram's horns in front of the ark. And the seventh day you shall go around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. ⁵ And it shall be when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout. And the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall go up, each man straight before him. ⁶ And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said to them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests carry seven ram's horns in front of the ark of Jehovah. ⁷ And he said to the people, Pass on, and go around the city. And let him who is armed pass on in front of the ark of Jehovah. ⁸ And it happened when Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests bearing the seven ram's horns passed on before Jehovah and blew the ram's horns. And the ark of the covenant of Jehovah followed them. ⁹ And the armed men went before the priests who blew with the ram's horns. And the gathering army came after the ark, as the priests were going on and blowing with the ram's horns. ¹⁰ And Joshua had commanded the people saying, You shall not shout nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word come out of your mouth until the day I tell you to shout. Then you shall shout. ¹¹ And the ark of Jehovah went around the city, going around it once. And they came into the camp and stayed in the camp. ¹² And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of Jehovah. ¹³ And seven priests carrying seven ram's horns before the ark of Jehovah went on without stopping and blew with the ram's horns. And the armed men went in front of them. But the rear guard came after the ark of Jehovah as the priests were going on and blowing with the ram's horns.

⁵ And Samson and his father and his mother went down to Timnath. And they came to the vineyards of Timnath. And, behold, a young lion roared to meet him. ⁶ And the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon him, and he tore it as he would have torn a kid; and nothing was in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.

³³ And Saul said to David, You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him. For you are but a youth, and he is a man of war from his youth. ³⁴ And David said to Saul, Your servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock. ³⁵ And I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb out of its mouth. And when it rose against me, I caught it by the beard, and struck it and killed it. ³⁶ Your servant killed both the lion and the bear. And this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God.

⁴ David was thirty years old when he began to reign. He reigned forty years. ⁵ In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah. ⁶ And the king and his men went to Jerusalem to the Jebusites, the people of the land. And one spoke to David saying, You shall not come in here, except the blind and the lame will turn you away; also saying, David cannot come in here. ⁷ And David took the stronghold of Zion; it is the city of David. ⁸ And David said on that day, Anyone who strikes the Jebusite, let him go by the water-shaft and take the lame and the blind, the hated of David's soul. On account of this they say, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house. ⁹ And David lived in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built all around, from Millo and inward. ¹⁰ And David went on and became great, and Jehovah, the God of Hosts was with him. ¹¹ And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons to David. And they built David a house. ¹² And David saw that Jehovah had established him king over Israel, and that He had made his kingdom sure for His people Israel's sake. ¹³ And David took more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he had come from Hebron. And there were still more sons and daughters born to David. ¹⁴ These are the names of those to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon, ¹⁵ and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia, ¹⁶ and Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphalet. ¹⁷ And the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel. And all the Philistines came up to seek David. And David heard, and went down to the stronghold. ¹⁸ And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the Valley of the Giants. ¹⁹ And David inquired of Jehovah, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand? And Jehovah said to David, Go up! For I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hand. ²⁰ And David came to Baal-perazim, and David struck them there, and said, Jehovah has broken forth on my enemies before me, like the breaking forth of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place The Breaking of Baal. ²¹ And they left their images there, and David and his men took them away. ²² And the Philistines came up again and spread themselves in the Valley of the Giants. ²³ And David inquired of Jehovah, and He said, You shall not go up, but go around behind them and come upon them over across from the weeping trees. ²⁴ And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the weeping trees, then you shall strike. For then Jehovah shall go out before you to strike the army of the Philistines. ²⁵ And David did so, as Jehovah had commanded him. And he struck the Philistines from Geba until you come to Gezer.

¹¹ And even from the time that I commanded judges to be over My people of Israel, so will I cause you to rest from all your enemies. Also Jehovah tells you that He will make you a house. ¹² And when your days are fulfilled, and you shall sleep with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who shall come out of your bowels. And I will make his kingdom sure. ¹³ He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. ¹⁴ I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the sons of men. ¹⁵ But My mercy shall not leave him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before you. ¹⁶ And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever. ¹⁷ According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.

¹ And it happened afterward, David struck the Philistines and humbled them. And David took The Bridle of the Metropolis out of the hand of the Philistines. ² And he struck Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the ground. Even with two lines he measured to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive. And the Moabites became David's servants, bringing gifts. ³ David also struck Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his border at the river Euphrates. ⁴ And David took from him seventeen hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen. And David hamstrung all the chariot horses but kept enough of them for a hundred chariots. ⁵ And when the Syrians of Damascus came to rescue Hadadezer king of Zobah, David killed twenty-two thousand men of the Syrians. ⁶ And David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus. And the Syrians became servants to David, bringing gifts. And Jehovah preserved David wherever he went. ⁷ And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem. ⁸ And from Betah, and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, King David took very much bronze. ⁹ And Toi king of Hamath heard that David had struck all the army of Hadadezer. ¹⁰ Then Toi sent Joram his son to King David, to greet him and bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and had struck him. For Hadadezer had wars against Toi. And in his hand were silver articles, and golden articles, and bronze articles. ¹¹ King David also dedicated them to Jehovah, with the silver and gold that he had dedicated from all nations which he subdued: ¹² of Syria, and of Moab, and of the sons of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalek, and of the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah. ¹³ And David made a name for himself when he returned from striking the Syrians in the Valley of Salt, eighteen thousand men. ¹⁴ And he put garrisons in Edom. He put garrisons throughout all Edom, and all the men of Edom became David's servants. And Jehovah preserved David wherever he went.

³² It is God who girds me with strength and makes my way perfect. ³³ He makes my feet like hinds' feet, and sets me on my high places. ³⁴ He teaches my hands to war, so that a bow of bronze is bent by my arms.

² You drove out the nations with Your hand, and planted them; You brought evil on peoples and cast them out. ³ For they did not get the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them; but it was Your right hand, and Your arm, and the light of Your face, because You favored them. ⁴ You are my king, O God; command victories for Jacob. ⁵ Through You we will push our enemies; through Your name we will trample those who rise up against us. ⁶ For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

¹³ You shall tread on the lion and adder; the young lion and the jackal You shall trample underfoot.

¹ A Psalm of David. Blessed is Jehovah my Rock, who teaches My hands for war, my fingers for battle. ² He is my goodness and my fortress; my high tower and my deliverer; my shield and He in whom I trust; who humbles my people under me.

¹⁰ It is You who gives salvation to kings; who delivers David His servant from the hurtful sword.

²⁰ And when he came to the den, he cried with a grieved voice to Daniel. The king spoke and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God whom you always serve able to deliver you from the lions? ²¹ Then Daniel said to the king, O king, live forever. ²² My God has sent His Angel, and has shut the lions' mouths, and they have not hurt me, because before Him purity was found in me. And also before you, O king, I have done no harm. ²³ Then the king was exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of hurt was found on him, because he trusted in his God.

¹⁶ And to Abraham and to his Seed the promises were spoken. It does not say, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, "And to your Seed," which is Christ.

¹⁷ But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, that through me the preaching might be fulfilled, and that all the nations might hear. And I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

¹² that you be not slothful, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. ¹³ For when God made promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no greater, He swore by Himself, ¹⁴ saying, "Surely in blessing I will bless you, and in multiplying I will multiply you." ¹⁵ And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

³⁶ For you have need of patience, so that after you have done the will of God you might receive the promise.

⁴ By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts. And by it he, being dead, yet speaks. ⁵ By faith Enoch was translated so as not to see death, and he was not found, because God had translated him; for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. ⁶ But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. ⁷ By faith Noah, having been warned by God of things not yet seen, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith. ⁸ By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out into a place which he was afterward going to receive for an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he went.

¹⁷ By faith Abraham, being tested, offered up Isaac. And he who had received the promises offered up his only-begotten son,

⁸ Be sensible and vigilant, because your adversary the Devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking someone he may devour;
