²⁴ which things are being allegorized; for these are the two covenants, one indeed from Mount Sinai bringing forth to slavery, which is Hagar.

³ And Sarai, Abram's wife, took Hagar her slave woman, the Egyptian, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife (after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan). ⁴ And he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. And when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.

⁸ And He said, Hagar, Sarai's slave, where did you come from? and where will you go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.

¹⁵ And Hagar bore Abram a son. And Abram called his son's name, which Hagar bore, Ishmael. ¹⁶ And Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram.

⁹ And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian (whom she had borne to Abraham) mocking. ¹⁰ And she said to Abraham, Cast out this slave woman and her son. For the son of this slave woman shall not be heir with my son, with Isaac. ¹¹ And the thing was very evil in Abraham's sight, because of his son. ¹² And God said to Abraham, Let it not be grievous in your sight because of the boy and because of your slave woman. In all that Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice. For in Isaac your Seed shall be called. ¹³ And also, I will make a nation of the son of the slave woman, because he is your seed.

¹² And these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's handmaid, bore to Abraham.

² And he said: Jehovah came from Sinai and rose up from Seir to them. He shone forth from Mount Paran, and He came with ten thousands of saints. From His right went a fiery law for them.

⁴⁹ And I said, Ah Lord Jehovah! They say of me, Does he not speak parables?

¹⁰ They shall walk after Jehovah; He shall roar like a lion. When He shall roar, then the sons shall tremble from the west.

³⁵ so that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, "I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world."

¹⁹ And He took bread and gave thanks, and He broke it and gave it to them, saying, This is My body which is given for you, this do in remembrance of Me. ²⁰ In the same way He took the cup, after having dined, saying, This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is being poured out for you.

¹⁵ For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption by which we cry, Abba, Father!

⁴ and all drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank of the spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.

¹¹ And all these things happened to them as examples; and it is written for our warning on whom the ends of the world have come.

¹⁵ Brothers, I speak according to man, a covenant having been ratified, even among mankind, no one sets aside or adds to it. ¹⁶ And to Abraham and to his Seed the promises were spoken. It does not say, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, "And to your Seed," which is Christ. ¹⁷ And I say this, A covenant having been ratified by God in Christ, the Law (coming into being four hundred and thirty years after) does not annul the promise, so as to abolish it. ¹⁸ For if the inheritance is of Law, it is no more of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by way of promise. ¹⁹ Why then the Law? It was added because of transgressions, until the Seed should come to those to whom it had been promised, being ordained through angels in the Mediator's hand. ²⁰ But the Mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. ²¹ Is the Law then against the promises of God? Let it not be said! For if a law had been given which could have given life, indeed righteousness would have been out of Law.

²⁵ For Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and answers to Jerusalem which now is, and is in slavery with her children.

¹ Stand fast therefore in the liberty with which Christ has made us free, and do not again be held with the yoke of bondage.

²² by so much was Jesus made a surety of a better covenant.

⁶ But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, by so much He is also the Mediator of a better covenant, which was built upon better promises. ⁷ For if that first covenant had been without fault, then no place would have been sought for the second. ⁸ For finding fault with them, He said to them, "Behold, days are coming, says the Lord, and I will make an end on the house of Israel and on the house of Judah; a new covenant shall be, ⁹ not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day I took hold of their hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt," because they did not continue in My covenant, and I did not regard them, says the Lord. ¹⁰ "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My Laws into their mind and write them in their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. ¹¹ And they shall not each man teach his neighbor, and each man his brother, saying, Know the Lord, for all shall know Me, from the least to the greatest. ¹² For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities I will remember no more." ¹³ In that He says, A new covenant, He has made the first one old. Now that which decays and becomes old is ready to vanish away.

¹⁵ And for this cause He is the Mediator of the new covenant, so that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first covenant, those who are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. ¹⁶ For where a covenant is, the death of him covenanting must be offered. ¹⁷ For a covenant is affirmed over those dead, since it never has force when The one covenanting is living. ¹⁸ From which we see that neither was the first covenant dedicated without blood. ¹⁹ For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the Law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people, ²⁰ saying, "This is the blood of the covenant which God has enjoined to you." ²¹ And likewise he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry. ²² And almost all things are by the law purged with blood, and without shedding of blood is no remission. ²³ Therefore it was necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves were purified with better sacrifices than these. ²⁴ For Christ has not entered into the Holy of Holies made with hands, which are the figures of the true, but into Heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.

¹⁵ The Holy Spirit also is a witness to us; for after He had said before, ¹⁶ "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord; I will put My Laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them," ¹⁷ also He adds, "their sins and their iniquities I will remember no more." ¹⁸ Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

¹⁹ concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from where he even received him, in a figure.

²⁴ and to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.

²⁰ Now may the God of peace (who brought again our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant)
