¹³ In your defilement is wickedness. Because I have purged you and you were not purged, you shall not be purged from your defilement any more, until I have caused My fury to cease on you.

¹⁴ Also all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the nations. And they polluted the house of Jehovah which He had made holy in Jerusalem. ¹⁵ And Jehovah, the God of their fathers sent to them by His messengers, rising up early and sending, for He had pity on His people and on His dwelling-place. ¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God and despised His words, and ill-treated His prophets until the wrath of Jehovah arose against His people, until there was no healing.

⁴ What more could have been done to my vineyard that I have not done in it? Who knows? I looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded rotten grapes. ⁵ And now I will tell you what I will do to My vineyard; I will take away its hedge, and it shall be eaten up; and break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down; ⁶ and I will lay it waste; it shall not be pruned nor dug; but briers and thorns shall come up. And I will command the clouds that they rain no rain on it.

¹³ For the people do not turn to Him who strikes them, nor do they seek Jehovah of Hosts. ¹⁴ And Jehovah will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day. ¹⁵ The elder and honorable, he is the head; and the prophet who teaches lies, he is the tail. ¹⁶ For the leaders of this people led them astray; and their guided ones are swallowed up. ¹⁷ For this the Lord shall not rejoice over their young men, nor shall He have mercy on their orphans and widows; for everyone is a hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks foolishness. In all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

²⁸ They are all grievous revolters, walking in slanders; they are bronze and iron; they are all corrupters. ²⁹ The bellows are burned, the lead is melted by the fire; the refiner melts in vain; for the wicked are not plucked away. ³⁰ Reprobate silver they call them, because Jehovah has rejected them.

³ From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even to this day, that is the twenty-third year, the Word of Jehovah has come to me, and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking. But you have not listened. ⁴ And Jehovah has sent to you all His servants the prophets, rising early and sending them; but you have not listened nor bowed down your ear to hear. ⁵ They said, Turn again now, each one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that Jehovah has given to you and to your fathers forever and ever. ⁶ And do not go after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and do not provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no harm. ⁷ Yet you have not listened to Me, says Jehovah, so that you might provoke Me with the works of your hands, for harm to you.

¹⁸ I have surely heard Ephraim mourning to himself, saying, You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bull not broken in; turn me, and I shall be turned. For You are Jehovah my God.

¹³ So My anger shall be fulfilled, and I will cause My fury to rest on them, and I will be comforted. And they shall know that I Jehovah have spoken it in My zeal, when I have fulfilled My fury in them.

¹⁸ And I will also deal with fury; My eye shall not spare, nor will I have pity. And though they cry in My ears with a loud voice, I will not hear them.

⁴² And I will make My fury to rest against you, and My jealousy shall depart from you, and I will be quiet and will be angry no more.

²⁴ Son of man, say to her: You are a land not being cleansed, nor rained on in the day of disgust.

³⁶ And Jehovah said to me: Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah, and declare to them their abominations, ³⁷ that they have committed adultery, and blood is on their hands? And they have committed adultery with their idols and have also caused their sons whom they bore to Me to pass through the fire to them, to devour them. ³⁸ And yet they have done this to Me: They have defiled My sanctuary in that day, and have profaned My sabbaths. ³⁹ And when they had slain their sons to their idols, then they came into My sanctuary in that day to profane it. And lo, this they have done in the midst of My house. ⁴⁰ And they have even sent for men to come from far, to whom a messenger was sent. And lo, they came. You washed yourself for them, painted your eyes, and adorned yourself with ornaments, ⁴¹ and sat on a stately bed with a table prepared before it, on which you set My incense and My oil. ⁴² And the sound of a crowd was at ease with her; and drunkards from the wilderness were brought with the men of the host of mankind; and they put bracelets on their hands, and crowns of beauty on their heads. ⁴³ And I said about the one worn in adulteries, Will they now whore with her, and she with them? ⁴⁴ And they went in to her, as they go in to a woman of harlotry; so they went in to Oholah and to Oholibah, the wicked women. ⁴⁵ And as righteous men, they shall judge them with the judgment of adulteresses, and the judgment of women who shed blood; because they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands. ⁴⁶ For so says the Lord Jehovah: I will bring up a company on them, and will give them to be removed and stripped. ⁴⁷ And the company shall stone them with stones, and cut them down with their swords. They shall kill their sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses with fire. ⁴⁸ So I will cause wickedness to cease out of the land, that all women may be taught, even not to go after your wickedness.

¹¹ And set it empty on its coals, so that its bronze may be hot and may glow, and that its uncleanness may be melted in it, that the scum of it may be burned away.

¹ When I would have healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was uncovered, and the wickedness of Samaria. For they have worked falsehood. And the thief comes in, the troop of robbers plunders outside.

⁹ Strangers have eaten up his strength, and he does not know. Yea, gray hairs are here and there on him, yet he knows it not. ¹⁰ And the pride of Israel testifies to his face. And they do not return to Jehovah their God, nor seek Him in all this. ¹¹ Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart; they call to Egypt; they go to Assyria. ¹² When they go, I will spread My net on them; I will bring them down like the birds of the heavens; I will chastise them, as a report to their congregation. ¹³ Woe to them! For they have fled from Me. Ruin to them! Because they have sinned against Me. Though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against Me. ¹⁴ And they have not cried to Me with their heart, when they howled on their beds; they gather themselves for grain and wine, and they rebel against Me. ¹⁵ Though I have bound and strengthened their arms, yet they think evil against Me. ¹⁶ They return, but not to the Most High. They are like a deceitful bow; their rulers shall fall by the sword from the rage of their tongue. This shall be their scorn in the land of Egypt.

⁶ And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in all your places, and you have not returned to Me, says Jehovah. ⁷ And I have also withheld the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest. And I caused rain to fall on one city and caused it not to rain on another city; one piece was rained on, and the piece on which it did not rain dried up. ⁸ So two or three cities wandered to one city to drink water, but they were not satisfied; yet you have not returned to Me, says Jehovah. ⁹ I have stricken you with blasting and mildew. When your gardens and your vineyards, and your fig trees. and your olive trees increased, the creeping locust devoured them; yet you have not returned to Me, says Jehovah. ¹⁰ I have sent the plague among you in the way of Egypt; I have slain your young men with the sword, and have taken away your horses. And I have made the stench of your camps to come up into your nostrils; yet you have not returned to Me, says Jehovah. ¹¹ I have overthrown some among you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were like a firebrand plucked out of the burning; yet you have not returned to Me, says Jehovah. ¹² So I will do this to you, O Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel.

² She did not obey the voice; she did not receive correction. She trusted not in Jehovah; she did not draw near to her God.

⁷ I said, Surely you will fear Me; you will receive instruction; then her dwelling shall not be cut off, all that I appointed for her. But they rose early, corrupting all their doings.

³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one killing the prophets and stoning those who are sent to her, how often would I have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not! ³⁸ Behold, your house is left to you desolate.

⁷ And he said to the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig-tree, and find none. Cut it down, why does it encumber the ground? ⁸ And answering, he said to him, Lord, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and throw manure. ⁹ And if it bears fruit, well; and if not, then after that you shall cut it down.

⁸ But to those who indeed disobeying the truth out of self-seeking, and obeying unrighteousness, will be anger and wrath, ⁹ tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man who has worked out evil; of the Jew first, and also of the Greek.

¹ Then having these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilements of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

¹¹ He acting unjustly, let him still act unjustly. And the filthy, let him be filthy still. And the righteous, let him be righteous still. And the holy, let him be holy still.
