⁸ There is no man who has power over the spirit to keep the spirit; nor power in the day of death; and there is no discharge in that war; nor shall wickedness deliver its owners.

¹ When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses and chariots, a people more than you, do not be afraid of them. For Jehovah your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. ² And it shall be, when you come near to the battle, the priest shall go up and speak to the people, ³ and shall say to them, Hear, O, Israel, today you go up to battle against your enemies. Do not let your hearts faint, do not fear, and do not tremble, neither be terrified before their faces. ⁴ For Jehovah your God is He who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to save you. ⁵ And the officers shall speak to the people saying, Who is the man that has built a new house and has not dedicated it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man dedicate it. ⁶ And who is the man that has planted a vineyard and has not used its fruits? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man use its fruits. ⁷ And who is the man that has become engaged to a wife and has not taken her? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man take her. ⁸ And the officers shall speak further to the people, and they shall say, Who is the man that is fearful and faint-hearted? Let him go and return to his house, lest his brothers' heart faint as well as his heart.

¹⁴ For we must all die, and we are as water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. And God does not take a life, but has devised plans so that the outcast is not cast out from Him.

¹⁵ And they went after them to Jordan. And, lo, all the way was full of clothing and vessels which the Syrians had thrown away in their haste. And the messengers returned and told the king.

⁵ For his days are fixed, the number of his months is with You, and You have set his bounds so that he cannot pass;

¹⁴ If He sets His heart on man, if He gathers to Himself his spirit and his breath,

¹⁷ The wicked shall be turned into hell, all the nations that forget God.

⁶ Those who trust in their wealth, and their many riches, boast themselves. ⁷ A man cannot at all redeem a brother, nor give to God a ransom for him, ⁸ for the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceases forever, ⁹ yea, he shall yet live forever; he shall never see corruption.

⁵ God will likewise destroy you forever; He shall take you away, and pluck you out of your tent, and root you out of the land of the living. Selah. ⁶ And the righteous shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying, ⁷ Behold, the man who did not make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, he was strong in his wickedness.

¹⁸ Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down into ruin. ¹⁹ How have they been brought into grief, as in a moment! They are fully eaten up with terrors, ²⁰ like a dream when one awakens; so, O Jehovah, when You awake, You shall despise their image. ²¹ For my heart was grieved and I was pricked in my reins. ²² So foolish was I, and I did not know; I was like a beast before You. ²³ But I am always with You; You have held me by my right hand. ²⁴ You shall lead me with Your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. ²⁵ Whom have I in Heaven? And besides You I desire none on earth. ²⁶ My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart, and my part forever. ²⁷ For lo, those who are far from You shall perish; You have destroyed all who go lusting away from You. ²⁸ And I, it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in Jehovah God, to declare all Your works.

⁴⁸ What man lives and never sees death? Shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.

³² The wicked is driven away in his wickedness, but the righteous has hope in his death.

²¹ Who knows the spirit of man that goes upward, and the spirit of the beast that goes downward?

¹⁵ Because you have said, We have made a covenant with death, and we have made a vision with hell; when the overwhelming rod shall pass through, it shall not come to us; for we have made lies our refuge, and we have hidden ourselves under falsehood,

¹⁸ And your covenant with death shall be wiped out, and your vision with hell shall not stand; when the overwhelming rod shall pass through, then you shall be beaten down by it.

⁴³ it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;

⁴ for even if He was crucified out of weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For indeed even we are weak in Him, but we shall live with Him by the power of God toward you),

²⁷ And as it is appointed to men once to die, but after this the judgment,
