¹⁷ Also all his days he eats in darkness, and he has much sorrow and wrath with his sickness.

¹⁷ And to Adam He said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it! The ground is cursed for your sake. In pain shall you eat of it all the days of your life.

¹² And she said, As Jehovah your God lives, I do not have a cake, but only a handful of meal in a pitcher and a little oil in a jar. And behold, I am gathering two sticks, so that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, so that we may eat it and die.

² And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper room in Samaria, and was sick. And he sent messengers and said to them, Go, ask of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease.

⁶ And they said to him, A man came up to meet us and said to us, Go, turn again to the king who sent you, and say to him, So says Jehovah, Is it not because no God is in Israel that you go to ask of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron? Therefore, you shall not come down from that bed on which you have gone up, but shall surely die.

²⁷ And the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and to your seed forever. And he went out from his presence as leprous as snow.

¹⁰ And Asa was angry with the seer and put him in a prison-house. For he was in a rage with him because of this. And Asa oppressed some of the people at that time. ¹¹ And behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, lo, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel. ¹² And in the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa was diseased in his feet, until his disease was very grievous. Yet in his disease he did not seek to Jehovah, but to the physicians.

²⁴ For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and Jehovah delivered a very great army into their hand, because they had forsaken the God of the fathers. And they executed judgment against Joash. ²⁵ And when they had departed from him (for they left him in great diseases), his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and killed him on his bed, and he died. And they buried him in the city of David, but they did not bury him in the tombs of the kings.

²⁵ And another dies with bitter soul, and never eats with pleasure.

³³ Therefore He ended their days in vanity and their years in trouble.

⁷ For we are burned up by Your anger, and by Your wrath we are troubled. ⁸ You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your face. ⁹ For all our days pass away in Your wrath; we finish our years like a murmur. ¹⁰ The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by strength they are fourscore years, yet their pride is labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. ¹¹ Who knows the power of Your anger? And as Your fear is, so is Your wrath.

⁹ For I have eaten ashes like bread, and have mixed my drink with weeping,

² It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved sleep.

²⁷ when your fear comes as a wasting away, and your ruin comes like a tempest when trouble and pain come upon you. ²⁸ Then they shall call upon me, and I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me; ²⁹ instead they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of Jehovah.

¹⁶ And He said to me, Son of man, behold, I will break the staff of bread in Jerusalem. And they shall eat bread by weight, and with care. And they shall drink water by measure, and in silence, ¹⁷ so that they may lack bread and water, and be stricken dumb with one another, and waste away in their iniquity.

²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give God the glory. And he was eaten by worms and gave up the spirit.

³⁰ For this cause many among you are weak and sickly, and many sleep. ³¹ For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. ³² But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
