¹¹ When the good thing increases, those who eat it increase; then what profit is it to its owners, except to see it with their eyes?

¹⁶ And he treated Abram well for her sake. And he had sheep, and oxen, and he-asses, and male servants, and maidservants, and she-asses, and camels.

² And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver and in gold.

⁵ And Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents. ⁶ And the land was not able to bear them, that they might live together. For their substance was great, so that they could not live together. ⁷ And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle. And the Canaanite and the Perizzite lived then in the land.

²¹ When I saw among the spoil a goodly robe of Shinar, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, I coveted them and took them. And behold, they are hidden in the earth in the middle of my tent, and the silver under it. ²² And Joshua sent messengers, and they ran into the tent. And behold, it was hidden in his tent, and the silver under it. ²³ And they took them out of the middle of the tent, and brought them to Joshua, and to all the sons of Israel. And they laid them out before Jehovah. ²⁴ And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had. And they brought them to the valley of Achor. ²⁵ And Joshua said, Why have you troubled us? Jehovah shall trouble you this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.

²² And Solomon's food for one day was thirty measures of fine flour and sixty measures of meal, ²³ ten fat oxen and twenty oxen out of the pastures, and a hundred sheep, besides harts and roebucks, and fallow deer, and fattened fowl.

¹³ And King Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel. And the labor force was thirty thousand men. ¹⁴ And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month, by courses. They were a month in Lebanon, and two months at home. And Adoniram was over the labor force. ¹⁵ And Solomon had seventy thousand who bore burdens, and eighty thousand woodcutters in the mountains, ¹⁶ besides the chief of Solomon's overseers who were over the work, thirty-three hundred, who ruled over the people who labored in the work. ¹⁷ And at my table were a hundred and fifty of the Jews and rulers, besides those who came to us from among the nations around us. ¹⁸ And that which was prepared daily was one ox and six choice sheep; and birds were prepared; and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine. Yet for all this I did not seek the bread of the governor, because the bondage was heavy upon this people.

³⁶ Bow my heart to Your testimonies, and not to unjust gain. ³⁷ Turn away my eyes from seeing vanity; in Your way give me life.

⁵ Will your eyes fly on it? And it is gone! For surely it makes wings for itself; it flies into the heavens like an eagle.

⁹ Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit.

⁹ Rejoice, in your youth, young man; and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes; but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

¹¹ The quail sits on eggs and does not hatch them; in the same way he who gets riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the middle of his days, and in his end he shall be a fool.

¹³ Behold, is it not for Jehovah of Hosts that the people labor only for fire; yea, the nations weary themselves only for vanity?

¹⁶ because all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
