¹⁴ And the days in which we came from Kadesh-barnea, until we had come over the brook Zered were thirty-eight years; until the end of all the generation. The men of war were destroyed from the midst of the camp, as Jehovah swore to them.

²⁶ And they left and came to Moses and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh. And they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.

²⁸ Say to them, As I live, says Jehovah, as you have spoken in My ears, so I will do to you. ²⁹ Your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness, and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against Me, ³⁰ you shall certainly not come into the land which I swore to make you live in, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun. ³¹ But your little ones, which you said should be a prey, I will bring them in and they shall know the land which you have despised. ³² But as for you, your bodies shall fall in this wilderness. ³³ And your sons shall feed in the wilderness forty years and bear your fornications, until your dead bodies have wasted in the wilderness. ³⁴ According to the number of the days in which you searched the land, forty days, each day for a year you shall bear your iniquities, forty years; and you shall know My alienation. ³⁵ I Jehovah have spoken; I will surely do it to all this evil congregation who are gathered together against Me. They shall be destroyed in this wilderness, and there they shall die.

⁶⁴ But among these there was not a man of them whom Moses and Aaron the priest numbered, when they numbered the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai. ⁶⁵ For Jehovah had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not a man left of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

¹¹ Surely, none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and up, shall see the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, because they have not fully followed Me,

² eleven days from Horeb by way of Mount Seir to Kadesh-barnea.

¹⁹ And when we pulled up stakes from Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness which you saw by the way of the mountain of the Amorites, as Jehovah our God commanded us. And we came to Kadesh-barnea.

³⁴ And Jehovah heard the voice of your words, and was angry and swore, saying, ³⁵ Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation see that good land, which I swore to give to your fathers,

⁴⁶ So you stayed in Kadesh many days, according to the days that you remained.

³ You turn man to dust, and say, Return, sons of men.

⁹ For all our days pass away in Your wrath; we finish our years like a murmur.

¹¹ to whom I swore in My wrath that they should not enter into My rest.

²⁶ And He lifted up His hand to them, to overthrow them in the wilderness;

¹⁵ And also I lifted up My hand to them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey; it is the glory of all lands;

⁵ But with many of them God was not well pleased, for they were scattered in the wilderness.

⁸ do not harden your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness, ⁹ when your fathers tempted Me, proved Me, and saw My works forty years. ¹⁰ Therefore I was grieved with that generation and said, They always err in their heart, and they have not known My ways. ¹¹ So I swore in My wrath, They shall not enter into My rest." ¹² Take heed, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. ¹³ But exhort one another daily, while it is called today, lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. ¹⁴ For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, ¹⁵ while it is said, "Today if you will hear His voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation." ¹⁶ For some, when they had heard, did provoke; however, not all who came out of Egypt by Moses. ¹⁷ But with whom was He grieved forty years? Was it not with those who had sinned, whose carcasses fell in the wilderness? ¹⁸ And to whom did He swear that they should not enter into His rest, but to those who did not believe? ¹⁹ So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

⁵ But I intend to remind you, you once knowing these things, that the Lord having delivered a people out of the land of Egypt, in the second place destroyed the ones not believing.
