¹⁴ You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, of your brothers, or of your strangers that are in your land within your gates.

³⁵ And if your brother has become poor, and his hand has failed with you, then you shall help him; yes, even if he is a stranger or a tenant, so that he may live with you. ³⁶ You shall take no interest from him, or increase. But you shall fear your God, so that your brother may live with you. ³⁷ You shall not give him your silver on interest, nor lend him your food for increase. ³⁸ I am Jehovah your God who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God. ³⁹ And if your brother who lives beside you has become poor, and is sold to you, you shall not compel him to serve as a bond-servant. ⁴⁰ As a hired servant, as a temporary resident, he shall be with you, and shall serve you until the year of jubilee. ⁴¹ And he shall depart from you, he and his sons with him, and shall return to his own family. And he shall return to the possession of his fathers. ⁴² For they are My servants, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt. They shall not be sold as a slave. ⁴³ You shall not rule over him with rigor, but shall fear your God.

¹² If your brother, a Hebrew man or a Hebrew woman, is sold to you and serves you six years, then in the seventh year you shall let him go free from you. ¹³ And when you send him out free from you, you shall not let him go away empty. ¹⁴ You shall richly bestow on him from your flock, and from your grain floor, and from your winepress; with what Jehovah your God has blessed you, you shall give to him. ¹⁵ And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and Jehovah your God redeemed you. Therefore I command you this thing today. ¹⁶ And if he says to you, I will not go away from you, because he loves you and your house, because it has been good for him with you; ¹⁷ then you shall take an awl and put it through his ear to the door, and he shall be your servant forever. And also to your slave-girl you shall do so. ¹⁸ It shall not seem hard to you when you send him away from you free, for he has been worth a double hired servant in serving you six years. And Jehovah your God shall bless you in all that you do.

¹⁰ They cause him to go naked without clothing, and they take away the sheaves from the hungry. ¹¹ They press out oil between their walls; they tread their winepresses, and still suffer thirst.

¹³ If I despised the cause of my man servant or of my slave-girl, when they argued with me; ¹⁴ what then shall I do when God rises up? And when He calls me to account, what shall I answer Him? ¹⁵ Did not He who made me in the womb make him? And did not One shape us in the womb?

³¹ He who presses the poor curses his Maker, but he who honors Him has mercy upon the poor.

¹⁶ He who crushes the poor to multiply for himself, and he who gives to the rich, only to come to poverty.

⁷ In you they have despised father and mother. In your midst they have dealt with the stranger by oppression. In you they oppressed the orphan and the widow.

⁷ panting after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turning aside the way of the meek. And a man and his father will go in to the same woman, to defile My holy name.

¹ Hear this Word, cows of Bashan who are in the mountain of Samaria; who press down the poor, who crush the needy, who say to their masters, Bring in, that we may drink.

⁴ Hear this, you who trample the poor, even to make the humble of the land to fail,

⁵ And I will come near you to judgment. And I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those who extort from the hired laborer's wages, and turning away the widow, and the orphan, the alien, and not fearing Me, says Jehovah of Hosts.

⁷ And remain in the same house, eating and drinking the things shared by them; for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Do not move from house to house.
