²⁸ And hearing, and becoming full of anger, they cried out, saying, Great is Artemis of the Ephesians.

³ And when those of Ashdod arose early on the next day, behold, Dagon had fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of Jehovah. And they took Dagon and set him in his place again. ⁴ And when they arose early on the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the earth before the ark of Jehovah. And the head of Dagon, and both the palms of his hands, were cut off upon the threshold. Only the stump of Dagon was left to him. ⁵ And neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.

²⁶ And they took the bull which was given them, and they dressed, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any who answered. And they leaped on the altar which was made. ²⁷ And it happened at noon Elijah mocked them and said, Cry with a great voice, for he is a god. Either he is meditating, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey; perhaps he is asleep and must be awakened! ²⁸ And they cried with a loud voice and cut themselves with knives and spears until the blood gushed out on them, as is their way. ²⁹ And it happened when midday was past, and when they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor anyone who paid attention.

² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers plot together, against Jehovah and against His anointed, saying,

⁵ The coastlands saw and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid, and drew near, and came. ⁶ They each one helped his neighbor, and said to his brother, Be strong. ⁷ So the artisan strengthens the refiner, and he smoothing with the hammer, him who struck the anvil, saying of soldering, It is good. And he made it strong with nails; it will not totter.

³⁸ A drought is on her waters; and they shall be dried up. For it is the land of idols, and they act madly with idols.

⁵⁴ And hearing these things, they were cut to their hearts. And they gnashed on him with their teeth.

¹⁹ And when her masters saw that the hope of their gain went out, having seized Paul and Silas, they dragged them to the market before the rulers. ²⁰ And bringing them near to the judges, they said, These men, being Jews, are exceedingly troubling our city. ²¹ And they teach customs which are not lawful for us to receive nor to do, being Romans. ²² And the crowd rose up against them. And tearing off their clothes, the judges ordered them to be flogged. ²³ And after laying on them many stripes, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailor to keep them safely; ²⁴ who, having received such a command, thrust them into the inner prison and made their feet fast in the stocks.

¹⁹ And he came to Ephesus and left them there. But he himself entered into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.

³⁴ But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice cried out for two hours' time, Great is Artemis of the Ephesians! ³⁵ And quieting the crowd, the town clerk said, Men, Ephesians! What one of you does not know that the city of the Ephesians is a worshiper of the great goddess Artemis, and of That Fallen from the Sky?

²⁸ crying out, Men, Israelites, help! This is the man who teaches all everywhere against the people and the Law and this place. And even he brought Greeks into the temple and has polluted this holy place. ²⁹ (For they had seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city before, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.) ³⁰ And all the city was moved, and the people ran together. And laying hands on Paul, they drew him outside of the temple. And immediately the doors were shut. ³¹ And as they were seeking to kill him, the news came to the chiliarch of the cohort, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.

¹² Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and those tabernacling in them. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and in the sea! For the Devil came down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has but a little time.

⁴ And they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast. And they worshiped the beast, saying, Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with it?
