²² And they fell upon their faces and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin and will You be angry with all the congregation?

¹⁶ Let Jehovah, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation

¹⁰ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all flesh, even of man?

² Can a man be useful to God, as he who is wise may be useful to himself?

³ As long as my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils,

⁴ The Spirit of God made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

¹⁴ If He sets His heart on man, if He gathers to Himself his spirit and his breath,

⁶ If you sin, what do you do against Him? Or if your transgressions are multiplied, what do you do to Him? ⁷ If you are righteous, what do you give Him? Or what does He receive from your hand?

² Oh my soul, you have said to Jehovah, You are my Lord; I have no goodness apart from You.

⁸ I will not reprove you for your sacrifices; yea, your burnt offerings are continually before Me. ⁹ I will take no bull out of your house, nor he-goats out of your folds. ¹⁰ For every beast of the forest is Mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. ¹¹ I know all the birds of the mountains; and the wild beasts of the field are Mine. ¹² If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is Mine, and the fullness of it. ¹³ Will I eat the flesh of the mighty, or drink the blood of goats?

²⁷ These all wait on You, that You may give them their food in due season. ²⁸ You give to them, they gather; You open Your hand; they are filled with good. ²⁹ You hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. ³⁰ You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; and You renew the face of the earth.

⁵ So says Jehovah God, He who created the heavens and stretched them out, spreading out the earth and its offspring; He who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it.

¹⁶ For I will not contend forever, nor will I be always angry; for the spirit should fail before Me, and the souls I have made.

²⁰ Therefore so says the Jehovah God; Behold, My anger and My fury shall be poured out on this place, on man, and on animal, and on the trees of the field, and on the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be put out. ²¹ So says Jehovah of Hosts, the God of Israel: Put your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat flesh. ²² For I did not speak to your fathers, nor command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices. ²³ But I commanded them this thing, saying, Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people; and walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, so that it may be well with you.

²¹ I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not delight in your solemn assemblies. ²² Though you offer Me burnt offerings and your food offerings, I will not be pleased. Nor will I regard the peace offerings of your fat animals. ²³ Take the noise of your songs away from Me; for I will not hear the melody of your stringed instruments.

¹ The burden of the Word of Jehovah for Israel, says Jehovah, who stretches forth the heavens, and lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him.

⁴⁵ so that you may become sons of your Father in Heaven. For He makes His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

¹³ But go and learn what this is, I will have mercy and not sacrifice. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

¹⁷ And yet He did not leave Himself without witness, doing good, giving rain and fruitful season to us from heaven, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

²⁸ For in Him we live and move and have our being, as also certain of your own poets have said, For we are also His offspring.

³⁵ Or who first gave to Him, and it will be repaid to him?
