⁸ But Elymas the conjurer (for so his name is, if translated) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.

¹¹ Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers. And they, the magicians of Egypt, did the same with their secret arts. ¹² For each man threw down his rod, and they became snakes. But Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods. ¹³ And He hardened Pharaoh's heart so that he did not listen to them, as Jehovah had said.

²⁴ But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way did the Spirit of Jehovah go from me to speak to you?

¹ And it happened in that year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, Hananiah the son of Azur the prophet, of Gibeon, spoke to me in the house of Jehovah, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,

¹⁰ Then Hananiah the prophet took the yoke from off the prophet Jeremiah's neck and broke it. ¹¹ And Hananiah spoke for the eyes of all the people, saying, So says Jehovah, Even so I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all nations within the time of two full years. And the prophet Jeremiah went his way.

²⁴ You shall also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying, ²⁵ So says Jehovah of Hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because you have sent letters in your name to all the people who are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying, ²⁶ Jehovah has made you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, to be officers in the house of Jehovah, over every madman who prophesies, that you should put him into the stocks and into the collar. ²⁷ Now therefore why have you not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, who prophesies to you? ²⁸ For this cause he sent to us in Babylon, saying, This exile is long. Build houses and live in them, and plant gardens and eat their fruit. ²⁹ And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet. ³⁰ And the Word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah, saying, ³¹ Send to all the exiles, saying, So says Jehovah concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you, and I did not send him, and he caused you to trust in a lie, ³² therefore so says Jehovah, Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his seed. He shall not have a man to dwell among this people; nor shall he behold the good which I shall do for My people, says Jehovah, because he has taught rebellion against Jehovah.

⁴¹ He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, We have found the Messiah (which is, being translated, the Christ).

⁷ And the Word of God was increasing. And the number of the disciples in Jerusalem was multiplying exceedingly; even a great crowd of the priests obeyed the faith.

⁹ But a certain man called Simon had long been conjuring in the city, and amazing the nation of Samaria, claiming himself to be some great one.

³⁶ And in Joppa was a certain disciple named Tabitha (which translated is called Dorcas). She was full of good works and kind deeds which she did.

⁶ And when they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain conjurer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-jesus; ⁷ who was with the proconsul of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man. He called for Barnabas and Saul and asked to hear the Word of God.

¹² Then, seeing the thing happening, the proconsul believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

⁸ But as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so these also resist the truth, men of corrupt mind, reprobate concerning the faith.

¹⁴ Alexander the coppersmith showed many evil things to me. The Lord will give back to him according to his works. ¹⁵ You also should beware of him, for he has greatly withstood our words.
