²³ Curse Meroz, said the Angel of Jehovah; curse the people of it bitterly, because they did not come to the help of Jehovah, to the help of Jehovah against the mighty.

⁶ and I will lay it waste; it shall not be pruned nor dug; but briers and thorns shall come up. And I will command the clouds that they rain no rain on it.

⁵ Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink; arise, rulers. Anoint the shield.

¹⁴ Cursed is the day in which I was born; let not the day in which my mother bore me be blessed. ¹⁵ Cursed is the man who brought news to my father, saying, A man child is born to you; making him very glad. ¹⁶ And let that man be as the cities which Jehovah overthrew, and repented not; and let him hear the cry in the morning, and the shouting at noontide;

¹⁵ So says the Lord Jehovah: In the day when he went down to the grave, I caused a mourning. I covered the deep for him, and I held back its floods, and the great waters were held back. And I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted because of him.

⁹ The food offering and the drink offering are cut off from the house of Jehovah; the priests, Jehovah's ministers, mourn.

¹⁴ Who knows if He will turn and have pity and leave a blessing behind Him, a food offering and a drink offering to Jehovah your God?
