² And now, behold, the king walks before you. And I am old and gray-headed, and, behold, my sons are with you. And I have walked before you from my childhood to this day.

¹⁷ who may go out before them, and who may go in before them, and who may lead them out, and who may bring them in, so that the congregation of Jehovah may not be as sheep which have no shepherd.

²² And Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who gathered at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

²⁹ Why do you kick at My sacrifice and My offering, which I have commanded in My house? Do you honor your sons above Me, to make yourselves fat with the best of all the offerings of Israel My people?

¹³ For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knows, because his sons made themselves vile and he did not restrain them.

¹⁶ And Eli called Samuel and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.

¹⁹ And Samuel grew, and Jehovah was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground. ²⁰ And all Israel, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of Jehovah.

¹ And it happened when Samuel was old, he made his sons judges over Israel.

³ And his sons did not walk in his ways, but turned aside after ill gain and took bribes and perverted judgment.

⁵ And they said to him, Behold, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

²⁰ And we shall be, also we, like all the nations, so that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.

¹⁸ And now when I am old and gray-headed, O God, do not leave me; until I have declared Your strength to this generation, and Your power to everyone who is to come.

³ Listen to me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, who are borne by Me from the belly, who are lifted from the womb; ⁴ even to old age I am He; and to gray hairs I will bear you. I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.

⁶ For I am already being poured out, and the time of my release is here.

¹⁴ knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle is soon, as indeed our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.
