¹⁷ But whoever has this world's goods and sees his brother having need, and shuts up his bowels from him, how does the love of God dwell in him?

⁷ If there is among you a poor man of one of your brothers inside any of your gates in your land which Jehovah your God gives you, you shall not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother. ⁸ But you shall open your hand wide to him, and shall surely lend him enough for his need, that which he lacks. ⁹ Beware that there is not a thought in your wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand, and your eye may be evil against your poor brother, and you give him nothing. And he may cry to Jehovah against you, and it is sin to you. ¹⁰ You shall surely give to him, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him, because for this thing Jehovah your God shall bless you in all your works, and in all that you put your hand to. ¹¹ For the poor shall never cease out of the land. Therefore, I command you saying, You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor, and to your needy, in your land.

¹⁰ A righteous one understands the soul of his animal; but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

¹⁷ He who has pity upon the poor lends to Jehovah, and He will reward his dealing to him.

⁹ He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is a hateful thing.

⁷ Is it not to break your bread to the hungry, and that you should bring home the wandering poor? When will you see the naked and cover him; and you will not hide yourself from your own flesh? ⁸ Then shall your light break out as the dawn, and your health shall spring out quickly; and your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of Jehovah shall gather you. ⁹ Then you shall call, and Jehovah shall answer; you shall cry, and He shall say, Here I am. If you take the yoke away from among you, the pointing of the finger, and speaking vanity; ¹⁰ and if you draw out your soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall your light rise in darkness, and your darkness shall be as the noonday.

¹¹ He answered and said to them, He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none. And he who has food, let him do likewise.

⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, for your sakes He became poor, in order that you might be made rich through His poverty.

¹⁴ but by equality in the present time; your abundance for their need, that their abundance also may be for your need; so that there may be equality; ¹⁵ as it is written, "He gathering much, he had nothing left over; and he gathering little did not have less."

⁵ Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brothers that they would go forward to you, and make up beforehand your blessing, it having been promised that this would be ready, thus as a matter of blessing, and not as of covetousness. ⁶ But I say this, He who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully. ⁷ Each one, as he purposes in his heart, let him give; not of grief, or of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver. ⁸ And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that in everything, always having all self-sufficiency, you may abound to every good work; ⁹ As it is written, "He scattered; he has given to the poor; his righteousness remains forever."

¹⁷ Charge the rich in this world that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, He offering to us richly all things to enjoy, ¹⁸ that they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to share, to be generous,

¹⁶ But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,

²⁰ If anyone says, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar. For if he does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?

¹ Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God. And everyone who loves Him who begets also loves him who has been born of Him.
