² You know that being led away, you nations were led to dumb idols.

⁵ They have mouths, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see;

⁷ they have hands, but they do not handle; they have feet, but they do not walk; they do not mutter through their throat.

¹⁶ They have mouths, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see;

⁷ They carry it on the shoulder, they carry it and set it in its place, and it stands; it shall not move from its place. Yes, one shall cry to it, yet it cannot answer, nor save him out of his trouble.

⁵ They are like a rounded post, and they cannot speak. They must surely be lifted, because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them; for they cannot do evil nor good, for it is not in them.

¹⁸ What does an image profit, for its maker has carved it; a molten image, and a teacher of lies? For does the maker trust in his work on it, to make dumb idols? ¹⁹ Woe to him who says to the wood. Awake! To a dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and no breath is in its midst.

¹⁴ Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

¹¹ And such were some of you. But you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

⁸ But then, indeed, not knowing God, you served as slaves to those not by nature being gods.

¹¹ Therefore remember that you, the nations, in time past were in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; ¹² and that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world.

¹⁷ This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should not walk from now on as other nations walk, in the vanity of their mind, ¹⁸ having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart.

⁹ For they themselves witness what kind of entrance we had to you, even how you turned from idols to God in order to serve the living and true God,

³ For we ourselves also were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, slaving for various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another.

¹⁸ knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers,

³ For the time of life which is past is enough for us to have worked out the will of the nations, having gone on in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, parties, carousings, and abominable idolatries.
