⁸⁰ Meantime the child grew, and acquired strength of mind, and continued in the deserts, until the time when he made himself known to Israel.

¹ In those days appeared John the Immerser, who proclaimed in the wilderness of Judea, saying,

⁷ When they were departed, Jesus said to the people concerning John, What did you go out into the wilderness to behold? A reed shaken by the wind?

³ "The voice of one proclaiming in the wilderness, Prepare a way for the Lord, make for him a straight passage:" ⁴ thus came John immersing in the wilderness, and publishing the immersion of reformation for the remission of sins.

¹⁵ For he shall be great before the Lord; he shall not drink wine nor any fermented liquor; but he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.
