⁵ And for this very reason, indeed, giving all diligence, add to your faith, courage; and to courage, knowledge;

⁷ In like manner, husbands, dwell with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the wife, as the weaker vessel, and as joint heirs of the favor of life, that your prayers be not hindered.

²⁶ Besides, there lies a huge gulf between us and you, so that they who would pass hence to you, can not: neither can they pass to us, who would come thence.

²¹ As for us, we trusted that it had been he who should have redeemed Israel. Besides all this, today, being the third day since these things happened,

²⁷ Work not for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures through eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you; for to him the Father, that is, God, has given his attestation.

²⁰ Brethren, be not children in understanding; but in evil be children, and in understanding be full grown men.

¹⁷ that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, would give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him; ¹⁸ that the eyes of your understanding being enlightened, you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance among the saints;

¹⁷ Therefore be not simpletons, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

⁹ And this I pray, that your love may yet abound more and more, with knowledge and with all discretion;

¹² Wherefore, my beloved, since you have always obeyed, not in my presence only, but now much more in my absence; effectually work out your own salvation, with fear and trembling;

⁸ Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are venerable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are benevolent, whatever things are of good fame; if there be any virtue, and if any praise be due, attentively consider these things;

⁹ For this reason, we also, from the day we heard these things, do not cease to pray for you, and to request that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will, in all wisdom and spiritual understanding-

³ in whom are laid up all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

¹¹ Yet, we earnestly desire every one of you to show the same diligence, in order to the realizing of this hope, to the end-

⁶ But without faith it is impossible to please God. For he who comes to God, must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them who diligently seek him.

¹⁵ carefully observing, lest any one come short of the favor of God; lest some bitter root springing up, trouble you, and by it many be polluted;

² Favor and peace be multiplied to you, through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord. ³ As his divine power has gifted to us all things which are necessary to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who has called us to glory and virtue.

¹⁰ Wherefore, the rather, brethren, earnestly endeavor to make your calling and election sure; for doing these things, you shall never fall;

¹⁴ Wherefore, beloved, expecting these things, diligently endeavor to be found of him spotless, and irreproachable, in peace.

¹⁸ But grow in favor, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
