⁵ But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the condolence of my lips should restrain your grief.

³ Behold, thou hast ere this corrected many, and weak hands thou wast wont to strengthen. ⁴ Him that stumbled thy words used to uphold, and to sinking knees thou gavest vigor.

¹⁴ As though I were one who refuseth kindness to his friend, and forsaketh the fear of the Almighty:

²⁵ I chose their way for them, and I sat as chief, and dwelt as king in his army, as one that comforteth mourners.

⁹ Oil and perfume cause the heart to rejoice, and so do the sweet words of a friend more than one’s own counsel.

¹⁷ Iron is sharpened by iron: so doth a man sharpen himself on the countenance of his friend.

³ Strengthen ye weak hands, and stumbling knees make ye firm. ⁴ Say to the timid of heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God, with vengeance will he come, with God’s recompense; it is he who will come and save you.
