¹⁰ So he sent and had John beheaded in the prison.

¹² But I say to you, Elijah has already come, and they did not know him, and they did to him whatever they pleased. Thus also the Son of man is bound to suffer from them.

³⁵ And the laborers seized his servants, and some were beaten, and some were stoned, and some were killed. ³⁶ Again he sent other servants, many more than the first; and they did likewise to them.

³ And he sent his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage-feast, but they would not come. ⁴ Again he sent other servants and said, Tell those who are invited, Behold my supper is ready, and my oxen and fatlings are killed, and everything is prepared; come to the marriage- feast. ⁵ But they sneered at it, and went away, one to his field, another to his business; ⁶ And the rest seized his servants and insulted them, and killed them.

³⁴ Because of this, I am sending to you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you will kill and crucify; and some you will scourge in your synagogues, and pursue them from city to city; ³⁵ So that all the blood of the righteous shed on the ground may come on you, from the blood of Abel the righteous down to the blood of Zachariah, son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Truly I say to you, All of these things shall come upon this generation.

²⁷ So the king immediately sent the executioner, and commanded to bring the head of John. And he went and beheaded John in the prison, ²⁸ And brought it on a tray and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother. ²⁹ And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his body and buried it in a grave.

¹³ But I say to you, that Elijah has also come, and they did with him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.

⁹ So Herod said, I have beheaded John; but who is this one concerning whom I hear these things? And he wanted to see him.

⁷ And when they have finished their testimony, the wild beast which ascends out of the bottomless pit, shall make war against them and shall overcome them.
