¹³ Now I should have lain down and been quiet, I should have slept and been at rest,

⁸ The eye of him that sees me shall not see me [again]: your eyes are upon me, and I am no more. ⁹ [I am] as a cloud that is cleared away from the sky: for if a man go down to the grave, he shall not come up again: ¹⁰ and he shall surely not return to his own house, neither shall his place know him any more.

²¹ Why have you not forgotten my iniquity, and purged my sin? but now I shall depart to the earth; and in the morning I am no more.

²² to a land of perpetual darkness, where there is no light, neither [can any one] see the life of mortals.

¹⁰ But a man that has died is utterly gone; and when a mortal has fallen, he is no more. ¹¹ For the sea wastes in [length of] time, and a river fails and is dried up. ¹² And man that has lain down [in death] shall certainly not rise again till the heaven be dissolved, and they shall not awake from their sleep.

¹³ For if I remain, Hades is my habitation: and my bed has been made in darkness.

²⁷ which I am conscious of in myself, which mine eye has seen, and not another, but all have been fulfilled to me in [my] bosom.

¹³ And they spend their days in wealth, and fall asleep in the rest of the grave.

²³ One shall die in his perfect strength, and wholly at ease and prosperous;

³ If a man beget a hundred [children], and live many years, yes, however abundant the days of his years shall be, yet [if] his soul shall not be satisfied with good, and also he have no burial; I said, An untimely birth is better than he. ⁴ For he came in vanity, and departs in darkness, and his name shall be covered in darkness. ⁵ Moreover he has not seen the sun, nor known rest: there is [no more rest] to this one than another.

¹⁰ Whatsoever your hand shall find to do, do with all your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Hades wither you go.
