¹² [And David son of an Ephrathite said, this Eplarathite was of Bethleem Juda, and his name was Jessae, and he had eight sons. And the man passed for an old man among men in the days of Saul. ]

¹⁹ So Rachel died, and was buried in the way of the course of Ephratha, this is Bethleem.

²² And Obed begot Jessae; and Jessae begot David.

¹ And the Lord said to Samuel, How long do you mourn for Saul, whereas I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and come, I will send you to Jessae, to Bethleem; for I have seen among his sons a king for me.

¹⁰ And Jessae caused his seven sons to pass before Samuel: and Samuel said, the Lord has not chosen these. ¹¹ And Samuel said to Jessae, Hast you no more sons? And Jessae said, [There is] yet a little one; behold, he tends the flock. And Samuel said to Jessae, Send and fetch him for we may not sit down till he comes.

¹⁸ And one of his servants answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jessae the Bethleemite, and he understands playing [on the harp], and the man [is] prudent, and a warrior, and wise in speech, and the man [is] handsome, and the Lord [is] with him.

⁵⁸ And Saul said to him, Whose son are you, young man? and David said, The son of your servant Jessae the Bethleemite.

¹³ And Jessae begot his firstborn Eliab, Aminadab [was] the second, Samaa the third, ¹⁴ Nathanael the fourth, Zabdai the fifth, ¹⁵ Asam the sixth, David the seventh. ¹⁶ And their sister [was] Saruia, and [another] Abigaia: and the sons of Saruia [were] Abisa, and Joab, and Asael, three.

² And you, Bethleem, house of Ephratha, are few in number to be [reckoned] among the thousands of Juda; [yet] out of you shall one come forth to me, to be a ruler of Israel; and his goings forth were from the beginning, [even] from eternity.
