³ And all the elders of Israel came to the king to Chebron; and king David made a covenant with them in Chebron before the Lord: and they anointed David to be king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by Samuel.

And the Lord said to Samuel, Arise, and anoint David, for he is good. ¹³ And Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward: and Samuel arose, and departed to Armathaim.

¹⁸ So they both made a covenant before the Lord; and David lived in Caene, and Jonathan went to his home.

¹⁷ And the Lord has done to you, as the Lord spoke by me; and the Lord will rend your kingdom out of your hand, and will give it to your neighbor David.
