² For the family idols speak iniquity, and the diviners have seen a lie and have told false dreams. They comfort in vain. On account of this, they wandered like a flock. They were troubled because there was no shepherd.

¹⁹ And Laban went to shear his sheep. And Rachel stole the household idols which were her father's.

¹⁷ who may go out before them, and who may go in before them, and who may lead them out, and who may bring them in, so that the congregation of Jehovah may not be as sheep to whom there is no shepherd.

¹⁴ And the five men who had gone to spy out the land of Laish answered and said to their brothers, Do you not know that there are in these houses an ephod and household idols, and a graven image, and a molten image? And now, you know what you are to do.

¹⁷ And he said, I have seen all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep that have no shepherd. And Jehovah said, These have no ruler; they shall each return to his house in peace.

⁴ But you are imputers of lies; you are all worthless healers.

³⁴ How then do you comfort me with vanity? Yea, in your answers remains treachery.

⁹ Those who form a carved image are all of them vanity. And their delights do not profit; and they are their own witnesses. They do not see, nor know, that they may be ashamed.

⁵ To whom will you compare and make Me equal; yea, compare Me, that we may be alike?

¹⁴ They have also healed the break of My people slightly, saying, Peace, peace, when there is no peace.

¹¹ For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of My people slightly, saying, Peace, peace! And there is no peace.

⁸ But they are at once foolish and animal like; their tree is an instruction of vanities.

¹⁷ But if you will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride. And my eye shall bitterly weep and run down with tears, because the flock of Jehovah was captured. ¹⁸ Say to the king and to the queen mother, Humble yourselves, sit down. For the crown of your glory will come down from your head places. ¹⁹ The cities of the south have been shut up, and none are opening. Judah has been exiled; all of it has been peacefully exiled. ²⁰ Lift up your eyes and behold those who come from the north. Where is the flock that was given to you, your beautiful flock?

¹³ Then I said, Ah, O Lord Jehovah! Behold, the prophets are saying to them, You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I will give you true peace in this place.

²² Among the vanities of the nations are there any who make rain fall? Or can the heavens give showers? Is it not You, O Jehovah our God? Then we will wait for You; for You do all these things.

¹⁷ They say to those who despise Me, Jehovah has said, You shall have peace. And they say to everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart, Evil shall not come on you.

²⁵ I have heard what the prophets said, those who prophesy lies in My name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. ²⁶ How long is this there in the heart of the prophets, the prophets of lies; yea, the prophets of the deceit of their own heart? ²⁷ They plot to cause My people to forget My name by their dreams which they tell, each one to his neighbor, even as their fathers have forgotten My name for Baal.

⁹ As for you, do not listen to your prophets, or to your fortune tellers, or to your dreams, or to your conjurers, or to your sorcerers, those who speak to you, saying, You shall not serve the king of Babylon.

⁴ And I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, with all the exiles of Judah who went into Babylon, says Jehovah. For I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon. ⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people who stood in the house of Jehovah, ⁶ even the prophet Jeremiah said, Amen! May Jehovah do so; may Jehovah confirm your words which you have prophesied, to bring again the vessels of the house of Jehovah, and all the exiles, from Babylon into this place.

¹⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah, Jehovah has not sent you, but you have made this people trust in a lie.

⁸ For so says Jehovah of Hosts, the God Israel: Do not let your prophets and your fortune-tellers in your midst deceive you. And do not listen to your dreams which you dream.

²¹ So says Jehovah of Hosts, the God of Israel concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy a lie to you in My name: Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he shall strike them before your eyes. ²² And a curse shall be taken up from them for all the exiles of Judah who are in Babylon, saying, May Jehovah make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire,

¹⁹ Where now are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, or against this land?

¹⁷ Israel is a scattered sheep, driven away by lions. First, the king of Assyria devoured him. And last, this king Nebu-chadnezzar of Babylon crunched him .

²³ And I will shatter the shepherd and his flock with you. And I will shatter the farmer and his team with you, and with you I will shatter heads and rulers.

¹⁴ Your prophets have seen false and foolish things for you; and they have not revealed your iniquity, to turn back your captivity. Yea, they visioned for you burdens of falsehood and seductions.

⁶ They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, Jehovah declares! And Jehovah has not sent them, but they hoped to confirm their word. ⁷ Did you not see a vain vision and speak a lying divination? Yet you say, Jehovah declares, though I have not spoken. ⁸ So the Lord Jehovah says this: Because you have spoken vanity and have seen a lie, therefore, behold, I am against you, declares the Lord Jehovah. ⁹ And My hand shall be against the prophets who see vanity, and who divine a lie. They shall not be in the council of My people, and they shall not be written in the writing of the house of Israel, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel. And you shall know that I am the Lord Jehovah. ¹⁰ Because, even because they made My people go astray, saying, Peace! and there was no peace. And he builds a wall, and, behold, others daubed it with lime. ¹¹ Say to those daubing with lime, Yea, it will fall. There will be a flooding rain; and you, O hailstones, shall fall, and a raging wind shall break. ¹² And, behold, when the wall has fallen, it shall not be said to you, Where is the daubing with which you have daubed? ¹³ So the Lord Jehovah says this: I will even break in My fury with a raging wind. And there shall be a flooding rain in My anger, and hailstones in fury, to consume it. ¹⁴ And I will break down the wall that you have daubed with lime and bring it down to the ground; yea, I will bare its base. And it shall fall, and you will be consumed in its midst. And you shall know that I am Jehovah. ¹⁵ And I will fulfill My wrath in the wall, and in those who daubed it with lime. And I will say to you, The wall is not; and, Those who daubed are not, ¹⁶ the prophets of Israel who prophesy as to Jerusalem, and who see visions of peace for her. And there is no peace, declares the Lord Jehovah.

²² Because you have saddened the heart of the righteous with lies, and I have not made him sad, and you have made the hands of the wicked strong, so that he should not turn from his evil way, to keep him alive. ²³ So you shall not see vanity, and you shall not divine any divination. And I will deliver My people out of your hand. And you shall know that I am Jehovah.

²¹ For the king of Babylon shall stand at the mother of the way, at the head of the two ways to practice divination. He shall shake arrows, he shall ask household idols; he shall look at the liver.

²⁹ While they see vain visions for you, while they divine a lie to you, to put you on the necks of the slain, of the wicked ( of whom their day has come), in the time of iniquity it shall have an end.

⁵ And they were scattered for lack of a shepherd. And they became food to all the beasts of the field when they were scattered.

⁸ As I live, declares the Lord Jehovah, surely because My sheep became a prey, and My sheep became food for all the beasts of the field, from not having a shepherd, and because My shepherds did not search for My sheep, but the shepherds fed themselves and did not feed the flock,

⁴ For the sons of Israel shall stay many days with no king and no ruler, and with no sacrifice, and no pillars, and no ephod or teraphim.

¹² I will surely gather all of you, Jacob; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel. I will set him together like the sheep of Bozrah, like a flock in the midst of its fold. They shall be in commotion because of men.

⁶ So a night shall be for you apart from vision; and darkness apart from divining. And the sun shall go down on the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them. ⁷ And the seers shall be ashamed, and the diviners shall blush, all of them; yea, they shall cover over their mustache, for there is no answer from God. ⁸ But by the Spirit of Jehovah I am full of power and justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression, and his sin to Israel. ⁹ Please hear this, heads of the house of Jacob, and magistrates of the house of Israel, you who abhor justice and pervert all equity. ¹⁰ those building up Zion with blood and Jerusalem with iniquity: ¹¹ Her leaders judge for a bribe, and her priests teach for pay, and her prophets divine for silver; yet they will lean on Jehovah, saying, is not Jehovah among us? No evil shall come on us!

¹⁸ What does an image profit, for its maker has carved it; a molten image, and a teacher of falsehood? For does the maker trust in his work on it, to make mute idols?

³⁶ And seeing the crowds, He was moved with pity for them, because they were tired and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.
