³⁰ I went over the field of the lazy man, and by the vineyard of the man lacking heart,

⁸ As I have seen, the ones who plow iniquity and sow misery reap the same.

²⁷ Consider this. We have searched it out; it is so. Hear it, and know it for yourself.

¹⁷ I will tell you; hear me, and I will declare this that I have seen;

²⁵ I have been young and am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, or his seed begging bread.

⁴² The upright shall see and be glad; and all iniquity shuts its mouth.

⁶ Go to the ant, lazy man; consider her ways and be wise; ⁷ who, having no guide, overseer or ruler, ⁸ provides her bread in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest. ⁹ How long will you lie down, O lazy man? When will you arise out of your sleep? ¹⁰ A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to lie down; ¹¹ So shall your poverty come as one walking, and your need like an armed man. ¹² A worthless person, a wicked man, walks with a perverse mouth, ¹³ winking with his eyes, speaking with his feet, teaching with his fingers. ¹⁴ Perversity is in his heart; he is plotting evil at every time, he sends out strife. ¹⁵ On account of this, calamity shall come suddenly; he is broken quickly and there is no healing. ¹⁶ These six things Jehovah hates; yea, seven are hateful to his soul; ¹⁷ a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, ¹⁸ a heart that plots evil plans, feet hurrying to run to mischief, ¹⁹ a false witness who breathes lies, and he who causes strife among brothers.

³² He who commits adultery with a woman lacks heart; he who does it is a destroyer of his own soul.

¹³ Wisdom is found in the lips of him who has understanding, but a rod is waiting for the back of him who lacks heart.

¹¹ He who tills his land shall be satisfied with bread, but he chasing vanities lacks heart.

¹ So I returned and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun. And behold the tears of those who were oppressed, and they had no comforter! And at the hand of those who oppressed them was power; but there was no comforter to them. ² And I commended the dead who already have died, more than the living who are alive until now. ³ Yea, better than both is he who has not yet been, who has not seen the evil work that is done under the sun. ⁴ And I considered every labor, and every advantage of the work, that it is the envy of a man against his neighbor; this is also vanity and striving after wind. ⁵ The fool folds his hands together and eats his own flesh. ⁶ Better is a palm filled with rest, than two fists with labor and striving after wind. ⁷ Then I returned and saw vanity under the sun. ⁸ There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he has neither son nor brother; and there is no end to all his labor; even his eyes are not satisfied with riches; and he says, For whom do I labor, and take good from my soul? This is also vanity. Yes, it is an evil task.

¹⁵ All things I have seen in the days of my vanity; there is a just man who perishes in his righteousness, and there is a wicked one who prolongs his life in his evil.

⁹ All this I have seen. I gave my heart to every work that is done under the sun. There is a time in which a man rules over a man for his evil. ¹⁰ And so I saw the wicked buried; and they came and went from the holy place, and were forgotten in the city, these things that they had done. This is also vanity. ¹¹ Where sentence on an evil work is not executed speedily, on account of this the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.
