² And he said, I cried out to Jehovah from my distress. And He answered me. Out of the belly of Sheol I cried for help, and You heard my voice.

⁷ And Jacob was afraid, and he was very distressed. And he divided the people with him, and the flocks, and the herds, and the camels, into two camps. ⁸ And he said, If Esau comes to the one company and strikes it, then it will be, the company that is left shall escape. ⁹ And Jacob said, Oh God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, Jehovah, who said to me, Go back to your land and to your kindred and I will deal well with you. ¹⁰ I am not worthy of all the mercies and all the truth which You have done for Your servant, for I passed over this Jordan with my staff, and now I have become two companies. ¹¹ Deliver me, I pray, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him, lest he come and strike me, mother to sons. ¹² And You said, I will surely deal well with you, and I will make your seed like the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

²⁴ And Jacob was left alone. And a Man wrestled with him until the ascending of the dawn. ²⁵ And He saw that He had not prevailed against him. And He touched on his hip socket, and Jacob's hip socket was unhinged as he wrestled with Him. ²⁶ And He said, Send me away, for the dawn has ascended. And he said, I will not let you go unless You bless me. ²⁷ And He said to him, What is your name? And he said, Jacob. ²⁸ And He said, Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, because you have wrestled with God and with men, and have prevailed.

¹⁶ Do not put your handmaid down for a daughter of wickedness; for from the abundance of my complaint and vexation until now I have been speaking.

⁶ And David was greatly distressed, for the people said to stone him. For the soul of the people was bitter, each for his sons and for his daughters. And David made himself strong in Jehovah his God.

¹ To the chief musician, for stringed instruments, A Psalm of David. Answer me when I call, God of my righteousness. You gave room to me in distress. Have mercy on me and hear my prayer.

¹⁰ For You will not leave My soul in Sheol; You will not give Your Holy One to see corruption.

⁴ The cords of death hemmed me in; yea, the floods of ungodly men overwhelmed me; ⁵ cords of Sheol surrounded me; the snares of death confronted me. ⁶ In my distress I called on Jehovah and I cried to my God; He heard my voice out of His temple, and my cry went before Him, into His ears.

²⁴ For He has not despised nor hated the affliction of the afflicted; and He has not hidden His face from him, but when He cried to Him, He heard.

⁶ This poor man cried, and Jehovah heard, and saved him out of all his troubles.

² From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart faints; Oh lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.

² To You who hears prayer, all flesh comes.

I cry to Jehovah with my voice; I pray to Jehovah with my voice. ² I pour out my musing before Him; I declare my distress before Him. ³ When my spirit faints within me, then You know my path; they have hidden a snare for me in the path in which I walk.

⁹ Sheol from below is stirred for you, to meet you at your coming; it stirs up the departed spirits for you, all the he goats of the earth. It has raised all the kings of the nations from their thrones.

⁴⁰ And even as "Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish three days and three nights," so shall the Son of man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights. Jon. 1:17

⁴⁴ And being in an agony, He prayed more intently. And His sweat became as drops of blood falling down onto the earth.

²⁷ because You will not leave My soul in Hades, nor will You give Your Holy One to see corruption.

⁷ who in the days of His flesh was offering both petitions and entreaties to Him being able to save Him from death, with strong crying and tears, and being heard from His godly fear;
