³⁵ A sword is on the Chaldeans, states Jehovah, and on the dwellers of Babylon, and on her rulers, and on her wise men.

²⁵ and I will bring a sword on you, executing the vengeance of the covenant, and you shall be gathered to your cities, and I shall send pestilence into your midst; and you shall be given into the hand of an enemy.

¹¹ Surely the rulers of Zoan are fools; the advice of Pharaoh's wise counselors has become stupid. How can you say to Pharaoh, I am the son of wise ones, the son of kings of old? ¹² Where are your wise ones now? Yea, let them tell you now, that they may know what Jehovah of Hosts has planned against Egypt. ¹³ The rulers of Zoan are fools; the rulers of Noph are deceived; they also have led Egypt astray, the cornerstone of her tribes.

¹⁴ So, behold, I am adding to do a wonders with this people, the wonder, even a wonder. For the wisdom of his wise ones shall perish, and the wit of his witty ones shall be hidden.

²⁵ I have raised up one from the north; and he shall come from the east; he will call on My name. And he shall come upon rulers as on mortar, and as a potter tramples clay.

²⁵ frustrating the signs of liars; yea, He makes diviners mad; turning wise ones backward, and making their knowledge foolish.

¹³ You are exhausted by your many plans; let those dividing the heavens stand up now and save you, the stargazers, making known what is coming on you into the new moons. ¹⁴ Behold, they are as stubble; the fire burns them; they shall not save their soul from the flame's hand; there is no coal to warm them; nor fire, to sit before it.

¹⁶ For by fire and by His sword Jehovah will execute judgment with all flesh; and the slain of Jehovah shall be many.

⁹ The wise are ashamed; they are terrified and are captured. Behold, they have rejected the word of Jehovah, and what wisdom is theirs?

⁷ Who would not fear You, O King of nations? For it is fitting to You, because there is none like You among all the wise of the nations, and in all their kingdoms.

⁶ O sword of Jehovah, until when will you not be quiet? Put yourself into your sheath; rest, and be still.

²⁷ Put the sword to all her bulls, let them go down to the slaughter. Woe to them! For their day has come, the time of their punishment.

³⁰ So her young men shall fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be silenced in that day, declares Jehovah.

³⁹ In their heat, I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunk so that they rejoice and sleep a never ending sleep and never awaken, says Jehovah.

⁵⁷ And I will make her rulers drunk, also her wise ones, her governors, and her rulers, and her mighty men; and they shall sleep a never-ending sleep, and not awaken, says the King whose name is Jehovah of Hosts.

² And the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

¹ Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his nobles. And he drank wine before the thousand. ² When tasting the wine, Belshazzar commanded the golden and silver vessels brought, those his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple in Jerusalem, that the king and his nobles, his wives, and his concubines might drink with them.

⁷ The king cried aloud to bring in the conjurers, the Chaldeans, and the star gazers. The king spoke and said to the wise men of Babylon, Any man who can read this writing and reveal its meaning shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold around his neck. And he shall rule third in the kingdom. ⁸ Then all the king's wise men came in. But they could not read the writing or make the meaning known to the king.

³⁰ In that night Belshazzar, the king of the Chaldeans, was killed.

⁶ And the sword shall grieve in his cities, and shall destroy his bars, and shall consume, because of their own counsels.

¹⁷ Woe to the worthless shepherd who abandons the flock! The sword shall be against his arm and against his right eye. His arm shall be completely withered, and his right eye shall be totally darkened.
