⁷ And seek the peace of the city, there where I have caused you to be exiled. And pray to Jehovah for it; for in its peace you shall have peace.

¹⁰ so that they may offer sacrifices of sweet odor to the God of Heaven, and pray for the life of the king and of his sons.

²³ Whatever is commanded by the God of Heaven, let it be carefully done for the house of the God of Heaven. For why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?

¹⁹ Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was stunned for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spoke and said, O Belteshazzar, do not let the dream or its meaning trouble you. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream is to those who hate you, and its meaning is to your foes.

²⁷ So, O king, let my advice be pleasing to you: Even break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by pitying the poor, whether there will be duration to your prosperity.

⁴ Then the presidents and satraps sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom. But they could find no occasion or fault because he was trustworthy. And no error or fault was found in him. ⁵ Then these men said, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel unless we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

¹ Let every soul be subject to higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, but the existing authorities have been ordained by God.

⁵ Because of this, it is necessary to be subject, not only on account of wrath, but also on account of conscience.

¹ First of all then, I exhort that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made on behalf of all men, ² for kings and all the ones being in high position, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet existence in all godliness and dignity.

¹³ Then be in obedience to every ordinance of men because of the Lord; whether to a king, as being supreme; ¹⁴ or to governors, as through Him having indeed been sent for vengeance on evildoers, but praise on well doers, ¹⁵ because so is the will of God, doing good to silence the ignorance of foolish men; ¹⁶ as free, and not having freedom as a cover of evil, but as slaves of God; ¹⁷ honor all, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.
