¹⁰ They have turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear My words. And they went after other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken My covenant which I cut with their fathers.

¹⁵ and if you reject My statutes, and if your soul hates My judgments, so as not to do all My commands, to the breaking of My covenant;

⁷ Remember; do not forget how you made Jehovah your God angry in the wilderness; even from the day that you came out of the land of Egypt until you came into this place you have been rebellious against Jehovah.

¹⁶ And Jehovah said to Moses, Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers, and this people shall rise up and go lusting after the gods of the strangers of the land into which they are going, and shall forsake Me, and shall break My covenant which I made with it.

¹² And they forsook Jehovah, the God of their fathers, who brought them out from the land of Egypt. And they went after other gods of the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves to them, and angered Jehovah. ¹³ Yea, they forsook Jehovah, and served Baal and the Ashtoreths.

¹⁷ But they also did not listen to their judges, but went whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves to them. They quickly turned aside out of the way in which their fathers walked to obey the commands of Jehovah. They did not do so.

¹⁹ And at the death of the judge, it happened that they would turn and act more corruptly than their fathers, to go after other gods, to serve them, and to bow themselves to them. And they did not fall away from their own doings, and from their stubborn way.

¹¹ I repent that I made Saul reign as king, for he has turned back from following Me, and he has not risen to do my words. And Samuel was angry, and he cried to Jehovah all night.

⁷ And it was so because the sons of Israel had sinned against Jehovah their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and feared other gods, ⁸ and walked in the statutes of the nations that Jehovah had driven out from the face of the sons of Israel, and of the kings of Israel that they made. ⁹ And the sons of Israel secretly did the things which were not right against Jehovah their God, and built high places for themselves in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city, ¹⁰ and set up for themselves pillars and Asherahs on every high hill, and under every green tree; ¹¹ and burned incense there in all high places, like the nations that Jehovah had removed from their face; and did evil things to provoke Jehovah, ¹² and served the idols, of which Jehovah had said to them, You shall not do this thing. ¹³ And Jehovah testified against Israel, and against Judah, by the hand of all His prophets, and every seer, saying, Turn back from your evil ways, and keep My commands, My statutes, according to all the law that I commanded your fathers, and that I sent to you by the hand of My servants the prophets. ¹⁴ And they did not listen, and hardened their necks, like the necks of their fathers, who did not remain faithful to Jehovah their God. ¹⁵ And they rejected His statutes and His covenant that He made with their fathers, and His testimonies that He testified against them, and went after the vain thing, and became vain, and after the nations that were around them, of whom Jehovah had commanded them not to do like them. ¹⁶ And they left all the commands of Jehovah their God and made for themselves casted images, two calves, and made an Asherah, and bowed to all the host of the heavens, and served Baal, ¹⁷ and caused their sons and daughters to pass through the fire and divined, and used incantations, and sold themselves to do the evil in the eyes of Jehovah, to provoke Him, ¹⁸ so that Jehovah was very angry against Israel, and turned them away from His face; not one was left, only the tribe of Judah by itself. ¹⁹ Also Judah did not keep the commands of Jehovah their God, and they walked in the statutes of Israel that they had made. ²⁰ And Jehovah rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and gave them into the hand of the plunderers, until He had cast them out from His presence.

³⁰ And the king went up to the house of Jehovah and every man of Judah, and the people of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the inhabitants from the great to the small; and he read in their ears all the words of the Book of the Covenant found in the house of Jehovah. ³¹ And the king stood in his place and made the covenant before Jehovah, to walk after Jehovah, and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes with all his heart, and with all his soul, to do the words of the covenant that were written in this book. ³² And he made everyone who was found in Jerusalem and in Benjamin, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to stand to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers. ³³ And Josiah removed all the idols out of all the lands that belonged to the sons of Israel, and caused everyone who was found in Israel to serve, to serve Jehovah their God; all his days they did not turn away from following Jehovah, the God of their fathers.

⁸ And they shall not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that prepared not its heart; yea, whose spirit was not faithful with God. ⁹ The sons of Ephraim, armed shooters of bows, turned back in the day of battle. ¹⁰ They did not keep the covenant of God and refused to walk in His law.

⁵⁷ but they turned back and betrayed, like their fathers; they veered aside like a deceitful bow.

⁶ Jehovah also said to me in the days of Josiah the king, Have you seen what the apostate Israel has done? She has gone up on every high hill and under every green tree, and has fornicated there. ⁷ And after she had done all these, I said, She will return to Me; but she did not return. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it. ⁸ And I watched. When for all the causes for which the apostate Israel committed adultery, I put her away and gave her a bill of her divorce to her. Yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but she also went and fornicated. ⁹ And it happened, from the wantonness of her harlotry she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with pieces of wood. ¹⁰ And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah has not turned to Me with her whole heart, but with falsehood, says Jehovah. ¹¹ And Jehovah said to me, The apostate Israel has justified herself more than treacherous Judah.

³² not according to the covenant that I cut with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt (which covenant of Mine they broke, although I was a husband to them, says Jehovah).

⁵⁹ For so says the Lord Jehovah: I will even deal with you as you have done, who have despised the oath in breaking the covenant.

¹⁸ But I said to their sons in the wilderness, Do not walk in the statutes of your fathers and do not keep their judgments, and do not defile yourselves with their idols. ¹⁹ I am Jehovah your God, walk in My statutes, and keep My judgments, and do them. ²⁰ And keep My sabbaths holy, and they shall be a sign between Me and you, that you may know that I am Jehovah your God. ²¹ But the sons rebelled against Me. They did not walk in My statutes, and they did not keep My judgments, to do them, which if a man does them, he shall live by them. They profaned My sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out My fury on them, to fulfill My anger against them in the wilderness.

⁷ when you brought in the sons of aliens, uncircumcised of heart and uncircumcised of flesh, to be in My sanctuary, to profane it, even My house, when you bring near My bread, the fat and the blood. And they have broken My covenant by all your abominations.

⁴ O Ephraim, what shall I do to you? O Judah, what shall I do to you? For your goodness is like a morning cloud, and it goes away like the early dew.

⁷ But, like Adam, they have broken the covenant; they have acted like traitors against Me there.

¹⁶ They return, but not to the Most High. They are like a treacherous bow. Their rulers shall fall by the sword, from the rage of the tongue. This shall be their scorn in the land of Egypt.

⁶ and those drawing back from after Jehovah, and who have not sought Jehovah, nor asked of Him.

⁴ Do not be as your fathers, to whom the former prophets have proclaimed to them, saying, So says Jehovah of hosts: Turn now from your evil ways and your evil doings. But they did not hear or give heed to Me, says Jehovah.

⁵¹ Oh stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and in the ears! You always fell against the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, you also did . ⁵² Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who before announced the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become betrayers and murderers,

⁹ not according to the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day of My taking hold of their hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I did not regard them, says the Lord.
