¹⁸ Their drink is sour. They are continually fornicating. Her shields dearly love shame.

⁸ And you shall not take a bribe, for the bribe blinds the seeing one, and it perverts the words of the righteous.

¹⁹ You shall not pervert judgment. You shall not regard faces, nor shall you take a bribe; for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise, and perverts the words of the righteous.

³² For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and their grapes of the fields of Gomorrah, grapes of gall; they have bitter clusters. ³³ Their wine is the venom of serpents, and the cruel venom of asps.

³ And his sons did not walk in his ways, and turned aside after dishonest gain, and took a bribe, and perverted judgment.

³ Behold, I am here! Testify against me before Jehovah and before His anointed: Whose ox have I taken, and whose ass have I taken, and whom have I offended? Whom have I abused, and from whose hand have I taken a bribe that I might hide my eyes with it; and I will give back to you. ⁴ And they said, You have not oppressed us, and you have not abused us, and you have not taken from the hand of any man.

⁷ And it was so because the sons of Israel had sinned against Jehovah their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and feared other gods, ⁸ and walked in the statutes of the nations that Jehovah had driven out from the face of the sons of Israel, and of the kings of Israel that they made. ⁹ And the sons of Israel secretly did the things which were not right against Jehovah their God, and built high places for themselves in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city, ¹⁰ and set up for themselves pillars and Asherahs on every high hill, and under every green tree; ¹¹ and burned incense there in all high places, like the nations that Jehovah had removed from their face; and did evil things to provoke Jehovah, ¹² and served the idols, of which Jehovah had said to them, You shall not do this thing. ¹³ And Jehovah testified against Israel, and against Judah, by the hand of all His prophets, and every seer, saying, Turn back from your evil ways, and keep My commands, My statutes, according to all the law that I commanded your fathers, and that I sent to you by the hand of My servants the prophets. ¹⁴ And they did not listen, and hardened their necks, like the necks of their fathers, who did not remain faithful to Jehovah their God. ¹⁵ And they rejected His statutes and His covenant that He made with their fathers, and His testimonies that He testified against them, and went after the vain thing, and became vain, and after the nations that were around them, of whom Jehovah had commanded them not to do like them. ¹⁶ And they left all the commands of Jehovah their God and made for themselves casted images, two calves, and made an Asherah, and bowed to all the host of the heavens, and served Baal, ¹⁷ and caused their sons and daughters to pass through the fire and divined, and used incantations, and sold themselves to do the evil in the eyes of Jehovah, to provoke Him,

⁹ The nobles of peoples gather together, the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth are God's; He is greatly lifted up.

¹⁵ The leech has two daughters crying, Give! Give! Three things are not satisfied, four never have said, Enough! ¹⁶ Sheol, and the barren womb, the earth not filled with water, and the fire, these never said, Enough!

²¹ Oh how the faithful city has become a harlot! She was full of justice; righteousness lodged in it. But now, murderers! ²² Your silver has become dross; your wine is diluted with water.

²¹ Yet I planted you a choice vine, wholly a true seed. How then have you turned into the degenerate shoots of an alien vine to Me?

² Swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and the committing of adultery increase. And blood touches against blood.

¹⁰ For they shall eat and not have enough. They shall fornicate and not increase, because they have ceased heeding Jehovah.

¹² For I know your many transgressions, and your many sins: afflicting the just, taking of a bribe, and turning aside the poor in the gate.

¹¹ Her leaders judge for a bribe, and her priests teach for pay, and her prophets divine for silver; yet they will lean on Jehovah, saying, is not Jehovah among us? No evil shall come on us!

³ Both palms are on evil, to do it well. The ruler is asking for a bribe, also the judge. And the great one speaks the lust of his soul; he acts, and they weave it together.
