¹ And Jehovah sent Nathan to David. And he came to him and said to him, There were two men in one city, the one rich, and the other poor. ² The rich one had flocks and very many herds. ³ But the poor one had nothing except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished. And it grew up with him, and with his sons together, and it ate of his morsel, and it drank from his cup, and it lay in his bosom. And it was like a daughter to him. ⁴ And a traveler came to the rich one, and he spared to take of his own flock, and of his own herd, to prepare for the traveler who had come to him. And he took the ewe lamb of the poor man, and prepared it for the man who had come to him. ⁵ And David's anger glowed greatly against the man. And he said to Nathan, As Jehovah lives, surely the man who did this is a son of death. ⁶ And he shall repay fourfold for the ewe lamb, because he has done this thing, and because he had no pity. ⁷ And Nathan said to David, You are the man! So says Jehovah, the God of Israel, I anointed you as king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul. ⁸ And I gave you the house of your master, and your master's wives into your bosom. And I gave you the house of Israel and of Judah. And if that were too little, then I would have added to you these and those things . ⁹ Why have you despised the word of Jehovah, to do the evil in His eyes? You have stricken Uriah the Hittite by the sword, and you have taken his wife to yourself for a wife. And you have killed him by the sword of the sons of Ammon. ¹⁰ And now the sword shall not turn aside from your house continually, because you have despised Me, and have taken the wile of Uriah the Hittite to be a wife to you. ¹¹ So says Jehovah, Behold, I shall raise up evil against you out of your house, and shall take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor. And he shall lie with your wives in the sight of the sun. ¹² For you acted in secret, but I will do this thing before all Israel and before the sun. ¹³ And David said to Nathan, I have sinned against Jehovah. And Nathan said to David, Jehovah also has put away your sin; you shall not die. ¹⁴ Only, because you have made the enemies of Jehovah to scorn derisively by this thing, also the son who shall be born to you shall surely die. ¹⁵ And Nathan went to his house, and Jehovah struck the boy whom the former wife of Uriah had borne to David. And it became sick. ¹⁶ And David sought God for the child. And David fasted a fast, and went in and stayed the night, and lay on the earth. ¹⁷ And the elders of his house rose up toward him, to raise him up from the earth. But he was not willing; and he ate no bread with them. ¹⁸ And it happened on the seventh day, the boy died. And David's servants feared to tell him that the boy was dead, for they said, Behold, while the boy was alive, we spoke to him, and he would not listen to our voice. And how shall we say to him, The boy is dead? Then he may do harm. ¹⁹ And David saw that his servants were whispering among themselves. And David understood that the boy was dead. And David said to his servants, Is the boy dead? And they said, He is dead. ²⁰ And David rose up from the earth, and bathed, and anointed. And he changed his clothing, and came into the house of Jehovah, and worshiped. And he came to his house, and commanded, and they brought bread for him; and he ate. ²¹ And his servants said to him, What is this thing you have done? You fasted and wept because of the living boy, yet when the boy is dead, you have risen up and have eaten food? ²² And he said, While the boy was alive, I fasted and wept. For I said, Who knows? Jehovah may be gracious to me and the boy may stay alive. ²³ And now he has died. Why this, that I should fast? Am I able to bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me. ²⁴ And David comforted his wife Bathsheba. And he went into her, and lay with her. And she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. And Jehovah loved him, ²⁵ and sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and called his name Jedidiah, because of Jehovah. ²⁶ And Joab fought against Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, and captured the royal city. ²⁷ And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and I have captured the city of waters. ²⁸ And now gather the rest of the people, and encamp against the city, and take it; that I not take the city, and my name be called over it. ²⁹ And David gathered all the people and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it. ³⁰ And he took the crown of the kingdom off his head. And its weight was a talent of gold, and a precious stone in it. And it was set on David's head. And he brought out the plunder of the city in great abundance. ³¹ And he brought out the people in it, and put them to the saw, and to sharp tools of iron, and to axes of iron. And he caused them to go over into the brick kiln. And so he did to all the cities of the sons of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

⁷ And they told Jotham, and he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim. And he lifted up his voice and cried, and said to them Listen to me, leaders of Shechem, and God shall listen to you. ⁸ The trees went forth to anoint a king over them. And they said to the olive, Reign over us. ⁹ And the olive said to them, Should I cease from my fatness, by which they honor God and man, and go to hold sway over the trees? ¹⁰ And the trees said to the fig, You come, reign over us. ¹¹ And the fig said to them, Should I cease from my sweetness and my good fruit, and go to hold sway over the trees? ¹² And the trees said to the vine, You come, reign over us. ¹³ And the vine said to them, Should I cease from my new wine, which rejoices god and men, and go to hold sway over the trees? ¹⁴ And all the trees said to the bramble bush, You come, reign over us. ¹⁵ And the bramble bush said to the trees, If you truly anoint me king over you, come seek refuge in my shade. And if not, let fire come out of the bramble bush and burn up the cedars of Lebanon.

¹ And it happened, when the king lived in his house, and Jehovah had given him rest from all his enemies all around, ² The king said to Nathan the prophet, See, now, I am living in a house of cedar, and the ark of God dwells within tent curtains. ³ And Nathan said to the king, All that is in your heart, go, do. For Jehovah shall be with you. ⁴ And it happened in that night, the word of Jehovah came to Nathan, saying, ⁵ Go, and you shall say to My servant, to David, So says Jehovah, Will you build a house for Me, for My dwelling?

¹⁷ According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.

¹⁰ And they told David, saying, Uriah did not go down to his house. And David said to Uriah, Have you not come from a journey? Why have you not gone down to your house? ¹¹ And Uriah said to David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah dwell in booths. And my lord Joab, and my lord's servants are camping on the face of the field. And I, shall I go into my house to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing. ¹² And David said to Uriah, Remain here today also, and tomorrow I will send you away. And Uriah remained in Jerusalem on that day, and on the next day. ¹³ And David called for him, and he ate and drank before him. And he made him drunk, and he went out in the evening to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord. And he did not go down to his house. ¹⁴ And it happened in the morning David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah. ¹⁵ And he wrote in the letter, saying, Place Uriah in the front of the strongest fighting, and withdraw from him, that he may be struck, and die. ¹⁶ And it happened, as Joab watched the city, that he sent Uriah to the place where he knew would be mighty men. ¹⁷ And the men of the city went out and fought with Joab, and some of the people fell of David's servants. And Uriah the Hittite also died.

²⁵ And David said to the messenger, You shall say to Joab, Do not let this thing be evil in your eyes. For the sword devours one as well as another. Make your battle stronger against the city, and overthrow it. And make him strong.

⁵ And the king said to her, What shall be to you? And she said, Truly I am a widow woman, and my husband died. ⁶ And your servant had two sons. And the two of them fought in the field, and there was no deliverer between them. And the one struck the other, and killed him. ⁷ And, behold, the whole family has risen against your servant, and said, Give up him who struck his brother, and we shall kill him for the life of his brother whom he has slain. And we shall also destroy the heir. And they shall quench my coal which is left, so as not to set to my husband a name and remnant on the fact of the earth. ⁸ And the king said to the woman, Go to your house, and I will give command concerning you. ⁹ And the woman of Tekoah said to the king, My lord, O king, let the iniquity be on me, and on my father's house; and the king and his throne shall be guiltless. ¹⁰ And the king said, Whoever speaks to you, you also shall bring him to me, then he shall not touch you any more. ¹¹ And she said, Please let the king remember Jehovah your God, that the redeemer of blood not destroy any more, and that they may not destroy my son. And he said, As Jehovah lives, not one hair of your son shall fall to the earth.

¹⁴ For we do surely die and are as water which is spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up. And God does not take a life, but has devised plans so that the outcast is not cast out from Him.

¹¹ And David rose up in the morning; and the word of Jehovah came to Gad the prophet, David's seer, saying, ¹² Go and you shall speak to David, So says Jehovah, I am setting up three things for you; you choose one of them and I will do it for you. ¹³ And Gad came in to David and told him, and said to him, Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or shall you flee before your foes three months, and they pursue you? Or shall three days' plague come into your land? Now consider, and see what I shall take back to Him who sent word to me.

¹ And, behold, a man of God had come from Judah to Bethel, by the word of Jehovah, and Jeroboam was standing by the altar to burn incense.

¹ And it happened after many days the word of Jehovah came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, show yourself to Ahab, and I will give rain on the face of the earth.

³⁵ And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his neighbor, By the word of Jehovah, please strike me. And the man refused to strike him. ³⁶ And he said to him, Because you have not listened to the voice of Jehovah, behold, you shall go from me, and a lion shall kill you. And he left him, and a lion found him and killed him. ³⁷ And he found another man and said, Please strike me. And the man struck him, striking and wounding. ³⁸ And the prophet went and stood for the king on the highway, and disguised himself with ashes on his eyes. ³⁹ And as the king passed by, it happened that he cried to the king, and said, Your servant went out into the middle of the battle, and behold, a man turned aside and brought a man to me, and said, Keep this man. If he is at all missing, then your life shall be for his life; or you shall weigh out a talent of silver. ⁴⁰ And it happened, your servant was working here and there, and he was not there . And the king of Israel said to him, Your judgment is right. You have decided it . ⁴¹ And he hurried and took the ashes from his eyes. And the king of Israel saw him, that he was of the prophets.

³ And an angel of Jehovah spoke to Elijah the Tishbite, Rise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say to them, Is it because there is not a God in Israel that you are going to ask of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron?

¹ To the chief musician, A Psalm of David when Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your loving-kindness, according to the multitude of Your tender mercies; blot out my transgressions. ² Wash me completely from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. ³ For I know my transgressions; and my sin is ever before me. ⁴ Against You, You only, I have sinned, and done evil in Your eyes; that You might be justified in Your speaking and be clear when You judge. ⁵ Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me. ⁶ Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts; and in the hidden parts You teach me wisdom. ⁷ Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. ⁸ Cause me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones You have crushed may rejoice. ⁹ Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. ¹⁰ Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a steadfast spirit within me. ¹¹ Do not cast me out from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. ¹² Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. ¹³ Then I will teach transgressors Your ways; and sinners will turn back to You. ¹⁴ Deliver me from the guilt of shedding blood, O God, O God of my salvation; my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness. ¹⁵ O Lord, open my lips and my mouth shall declare Your praise. ¹⁶ For you do not desire sacrifice, or I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering. ¹⁷ The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. ¹⁸ Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion; build the walls of Jerusalem. ¹⁹ Then You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole offering; then they shall offer bulls on Your altar.

¹ Now I will sing to my Beloved a song of my Beloved concerning His vineyard: My Beloved has a vineyard in a fruitful horn. ² And He dug it, and cleared it of stones, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in its midst, and also hewed out a wine vat in it. And He waited for it to produce grapes, but it produced rotten grapes. ³ And now, O people of Jerusalem and men of Judah, I ask you, judge between Me and My vineyard. ⁴ What more could have been done to My vineyard that I have not done in it? Who knows? I waited for it to yield grapes, but it yielded rotten grapes. ⁵ And now I will make known to you what I will do then to My vineyard. I will take away its hedge, and it will be burned. I will breach its wall, and it will become a trampling ground. ⁶ And I will lay it waste; it shall not be pruned nor hoed; but briers and thorns shall come up. And I will command the clouds from raining rain on it. ⁷ For the vineyard of Jehovah of Hosts is the house of Israel, and the man of Judah is His delightful plant. And He waited for justice, but behold, bloodshed; for righteousness, but behold, a cry!

¹⁷ For I was angry and struck him for the iniquity of his gain; I hid Myself and was angry; yet he went, turning in his heart's way. ¹⁸ His ways I have seen, but I will heal him, and will lead him and restore comforting to him and to his mourners.

³³ Hear another parable: There was a certain man, a house master, who planted a vineyard and placed a hedge around it; and he dug a winepress in it, and built a tower. And he rented it to vinedressers and left the country. Isa. 5:1, 2 ³⁴ And when the season of the fruits came, he sent his slaves to the vinedressers to receive his fruits. ³⁵ And the vinedressers, taking his slaves, they beat this one, and they killed one, and they stoned another. ³⁶ Again he sent other slaves, more than the first. And they did the same to them. ³⁷ And at last he sent his son to them, saying, They will have respect for my son. ³⁸ But seeing the son, the vinedressers said among themselves, This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and get hold of his inheritance. ³⁹ And taking him, they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him . ⁴⁰ Therefore, when the lord of the vineyard comes, what will he do to these vinedressers? ⁴¹ They said to Him, Bad men! He will miserably destroy them, and he will rent out the vineyard to other vinedressers who will give to him the fruits in their seasons. ⁴² Jesus said to them, Did you never read in the Scriptures, "A Stone which the builders rejected is the One that has become the head of the corner. This was from the Lord, and it is a wonder in our eyes?" Psa. 118:22, 23 ⁴³ Because of this I say to you, The kingdom of God will be taken from you, and it will be given to a nation bringing forth the fruits of it. ⁴⁴ And he who falls on this Stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder. ⁴⁵ And hearing His parables, the chief priests and the Pharisees knew that He was speaking about them.

¹¹ And He said, A certain man had two sons. ¹² And the younger of them said to the father, Father give me that part of the property falling to me . And he divided the living to them. ¹³ And not many days after, gathering up all things, the younger son went away to a distant country. And there he wasted his property, living dissolutely. ¹⁴ But having spent all his things, a severe famine came throughout that country, and he began to be in need. ¹⁵ And going, he was joined to one of the citizens of that country. And he sent him into his fields to feed pigs. ¹⁶ And he longed to fill his stomach from the husks which the pigs ate, but no one gave to him. ¹⁷ But coming to himself he said, How many servants of my father have plenty of loaves, and I am perishing with famine. ¹⁸ Rising up, I will go to my father, and I will say to him, Father, I sinned against Heaven and before you, ¹⁹ and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me as one of your hired servants. ²⁰ And rising up, he came to his father. But he yet being far away, his father saw him and was moved with pity. And running, he fell on his neck and fervently kissed him. ²¹ And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against Heaven and before you, and no longer am I worthy to be called your son. ²² But the father said to his slaves, Bring out the best robe and clothe him, and give a ring for his hand and sandals for his feet. ²³ And bring the fattened calf, slaughter and let us eat and be merry; ²⁴ for this son of mine was dead, and lived again, and was lost, and was found. And they began to be merry. ²⁵ But the older son was in a field. And having come, as he drew near to the house, he heard music and dances. ²⁶ And having called one of the children, he inquired what this may be. ²⁷ And he said to him, Your brother came, and your father killed the fattened calf, because he received him back in health. ²⁸ But he was angry and did not desire to go in. Then coming out, his father begged him. ²⁹ But answering, he said to the father, Behold, so many years I serve you, and never have I transgressed a command of you. And you never gave a goat to me, so that I might be merry with my friends. ³⁰ But when this son of yours came, the one devouring your living with harlots, you killed the fattened calf for him. ³¹ But he said to him, Child, you are always with me, and all of my things are yours. ³² But to be merry and to rejoice was right, for this brother of yours was dead, and lived again; and being lost, also he was found.

¹⁹ And there was a certain rich man; and he was accustomed to don a purple robe and fine linen, making merry in luxury day by day. ²⁰ And there was a certain poor one named Lazarus who had been laid at his porch, being plagued by sores, ²¹ and longing to be filled from the crumbs that were falling from the table of the rich one. But coming, even the dogs licked his sores. ²² And it happened, the poor one died and was carried away by the angels into the bosom of Abraham. And the rich one also died and was buried. ²³ And being in torments in Hell, lifting up his eyes, he sees Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosoms. ²⁴ And calling he said, Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am suffering in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Child, remember that you fully received your good things in your lifetime, and Lazarus likewise the bad things. But now he is comforted, and you are suffering. ²⁶ And besides all these things, a great chasm has been fixed between us and you, so that those desiring to pass from here to you are not able, nor can they pass from there to us. ²⁷ And he said, Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my father's house; ²⁸ (for I have five brothers, so that he may witness to them, that they not also come to this place of torment). ²⁹ Abraham said to him, They have Moses and the Prophets, let them hear them. ³⁰ But he said, No, father Abraham, but if one should go from the dead to them, they will repent. ³¹ And he said to him, If they will not hear Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if one from the dead should rise.

² And sons were born to David in Hebron. And his first-born was Amnon, of Ahinoam of Jezreel. ³ And his second was Chileab, of Abigail the former wife of Nabal of Carmel. And the third was Absalom the son of Maacah, the daughter of Talmai the king of Geshur. ⁴ And the fourth was Adonijah the son of Haggith. And the fifth was Shephatiah the son of Abital. ⁵ And the sixth was Ithream, of Eglah the wife of David. These were born to David in Hebron.

¹³ And David again took concubines and wives out of Jerusalem after he came from Hebron. And again sons and daughters were born to David. ¹⁴ These are the names of those born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon, ¹⁵ and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia, ¹⁶ and Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphalet.

⁸ And I gave you the house of your master, and your master's wives into your bosom. And I gave you the house of Israel and of Judah. And if that were too little, then I would have added to you these and those things .

¹⁶ And the king went out, and all his household at his feet. And the king left ten women, concubines, to keep the house.

³ And his possessions were seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and a very great household, so that this man was greater than all the sons of the east.

⁶ If your brother, your mother's son, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your friend who is as your own soul, shall entice you secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which you have not known, you and your fathers,

³ And David sent and asked about the woman. And one said, Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?

¹⁸ let your fountains be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your youth; ¹⁹ she is a loving deer, a graceful doe; let her breasts satisfy you every time, and always be ravished in her love.

⁵ Put no faith in a companion; put no trust in a friend; keep the door of your mouth from her who lies in your bosom;

² And he lifted up his eyes and looked; and, behold, three men were standing by him. And he saw, and he ran to meet them from the entrance of the tent. And he bowed to the ground. ³ And he said, My Lord, if now I have found favor in Your sight, I beg You, do not leave from near Your servant. ⁴ Please allow a little water to be taken and You wash Your feet, and rest under the tree. ⁵ And I will bring a bite of bread and will sustain Your heart. Then You may pass on, for this is why You have passed over to Your servant. And they said, Do so, as you have said. ⁶ And Abraham ran into the tent to Sarah and said, Hurry, prepare three measures of fine meal, knead it and make cakes. ⁷ And Abraham ran to the herd and brought a son of the herd, tender and good, and gave it to a youth. And he hurried to prepare it .

³ And David sent and asked about the woman. And one said, Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? ⁴ And David sent messengers and took her. And she came to him, and he lay with her. And she purified herself from uncleanness, and she returned to her house.

¹⁴ But each one is tempted by his own lusts, having been drawn out and having been seduced by them .

²⁴ And after three months, it happened. It was told to Judah, saying, Your daughter-in-law Tamar has committed adultery, and also, behold, she is pregnant by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her out and let her be burned.

³⁹ For as Jehovah lives, who delivers Israel, surely if it is my son Jonathan, he shall certainly die. And no one answered him from all the people.

³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse lives on earth you shall not be established, you and your kingdom. And now send and bring him to me, for he is a son of death.

²¹ And David had said, Surely, in vain I have guarded all that belongs to this fellow in the wilderness, so that not anything was missed of all that was his. And he has returned to me evil for good. ²² So may God do to the enemies of David, and may He do more so, if I leave any of all that is to him to the light of the morning, of one who urinates against a wall.

¹⁶ This thing which you have done is not good. As Jehovah lives, you also are sons of death, in that you have not watched over your lord, over the anointed of Jehovah. And now, see where the king's spear is, and the jar of water which was at his head-place?

⁴¹ But why do you look on the twig in your brother's eye, but do not consider the log in your own eye? ⁴² Or how can you say to your brother, Brother, let me pull out the twig in your eye, not yourself seeing the log in your eye? Hypocrite! First take the log out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the twig in your brother's eye.

⁵⁵ But turning He rebuked them. And He said, You do not know of what spirit you are.

¹ Therefore, O man, you are without excuse, everyone who judges, for in that in which you judge the other, you condemn yourself; for you, those judging, practice the same things.

¹ When a man steals an ox or a sheep, and kills it, or sells it, he shall pay five cattle for the ox, and four sheep for the sheep.

³¹ But if he is found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the goods of his house.

⁸ But standing, Zaccheus said to the Lord, Behold, Lord, half of my possessions I give to the poor. And if in anything I accused anyone falsely, I restore it fourfold.

¹³ For judgment will be without mercy to the one not doing mercy. And mercy rejoices over judgment.

¹³ And Samuel said to Saul, You have acted foolishly that you have not kept the command of Jehovah your God which He commanded you. For now Jehovah would have established your kingdom over Israel forever.

¹⁷ And Samuel said, Were you not, even you, little in your own eyes before becoming leader of the tribes of Israel? And Jehovah anointed you as king over Israel.

¹³ And Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of Jehovah came upon David from that day and onward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

¹¹ And Saul threw the spear, and said, I will strike David, even to the wall. And David twice drew back from his face.

²¹ And Saul said, I will give her to him, and she shall be a snare to him. And the hand of the Philistines shall be on him. And Saul said to David a second time, You shall be my son-in-law today.

¹⁰ And Saul tried to strike with the spear through David and through the wall. But he burst forth from Saul's presence. And he struck the spear through the wall. And David fled, and escaped during that night. ¹¹ And Saul sent messengers to David's house to watch him, and to kill him in the morning. And his wife Michal told David, saying, If you do not escape with your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed. ¹² And Michal made David go down through the window. And he went, and fled, and escaped. ¹³ And Michal took an image and laid it on the bed; and she put the quilt of goat's hair at his head-place, and covered with a spread. ¹⁴ And Saul sent messengers to take David. And she said, He is sick. ¹⁵ And Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, to kill him.

⁷ And it was told to Saul that David had come to Keilah. And Saul said, God has estranged him into my hand. For he is shut in, to enter into a city of gates and a bar.

¹⁴ And David stayed in the wilderness, in the strongholds. And he stayed in the hill, in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him all his days. And God did not give him into his hand.

²⁶ And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain. And David was hurrying to go away from the face of Saul. And Saul and his men were encircling David and his men, to catch them. ²⁷ And a messenger came to Saul, saying, Hurry, and come, for the Philistines have made a raid on the land. ²⁸ And Saul turned back from pursuing David, and went to meet the Philistines. On account of this they have called that place, The Rock of the Division.

⁸ And now, so you shall say to My servant, to David, So says Jehovah of hosts, I have taken you from the resting place, from following the flock, to be ruler over My people, over Israel.

¹ And David spoke to Jehovah the words of this song in the day Jehovah delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul.

⁴⁹ and brings me forth from my enemies; yea, You raise me up above those rising up against me; You deliver me from the violent man.

¹⁸ And he answered, I have not disturbed Israel, but you and the house of your father, in that you have forsaken the commands of Jehovah, and you have gone after the Baals.

⁴² And he said to him, So says Jehovah, Because you have sent away the man I had devoted from your hand, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.

¹⁹ And you shall speak to him, saying, So says Jehovah, Have you murdered, and also taken possession? And you shall speak to him, saying, So says Jehovah, In the place where the dogs lick the blood of Naboth, so the dogs shall lick your blood, even yours. ²⁰ And Ahab said to Elijah, Have you found me, O my enemy? And he said, I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do that which is evil in the eyes of Jehovah.

¹ To the chief musician, A Psalm of David, the servant of Jehovah, who spoke the words of this song to Jehovah in the day that Jehovah delivered him from the hand of all his foes, and from the hand of Saul. And he said: I love You, O Jehovah, my strength.

¹⁴ And going out, Jesus saw a great crowd and was filled with pity toward them. And He healed their infirm ones.

¹⁹ Then why did you not listen to the voice of Jehovah? Yea, you flew on the spoil, and did you not do evil in the eyes of Jehovah.

⁴ And the men of Judah came and anointed David king over the house of Judah there. And they told David, saying, It was the men of Jabesh-gilead who buried Saul.

⁵ In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months; and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty three years over all Israel and Judah.

¹⁹ And this was yet but little in Your eyes, O Lord Jehovah. But You have spoken also of Your servant's house for a time afar off. And is this the law of men, O Lord Jehovah?

⁷ And David said to him, Do not be afraid, for I will certainly show kindness to you because of your father Jonathan. And I will give back to you all the land of your father Saul. And you shall eat bread at my table continually.

¹¹ So says Jehovah, Behold, I shall raise up evil against you out of your house, and shall take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor. And he shall lie with your wives in the sight of the sun.

²² And king Solomon answered and said to his mother, And why are you asking Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Also ask the kingdom for him, for he is my older brother; yea, for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah.

¹¹ For Jehovah God is a sun and shield; Jehovah will give grace and glory; He will withhold nothing good from those who walk in integrity.

¹⁵ But You, O God, are God, full of pity; and gracious, longsuffering and rich in mercy and truth.

³² Truly He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all, how will He not freely give us all things with Him?

⁵ And surely the blood of your lives I will demand. At the hand of every animal I will demand it, and at the hand of man. I will demand the life of man at the hand of every man's brother. ⁶ Whoever sheds man's blood, his blood shall be shed by man. For He made man in the image of God.

¹³ You shall not murder. ¹⁴ You shall not commit adultery.

³⁰ And the soul that does anything with a high hand, whether of a homeborn or of the alien, the same blasphemes Jehovah. And that person shall be cut off from the midst of his people. ³¹ For he has despised the word of Jehovah and has broken His command; that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be on him.

²³ For the sin of divination is rebellion; insolence is both iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of Jehovah, so He has rejected you from being king.

⁴ And David sent messengers and took her. And she came to him, and he lay with her. And she purified herself from uncleanness, and she returned to her house.

¹⁴ And it happened in the morning David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah. ¹⁵ And he wrote in the letter, saying, Place Uriah in the front of the strongest fighting, and withdraw from him, that he may be struck, and die. ¹⁶ And it happened, as Joab watched the city, that he sent Uriah to the place where he knew would be mighty men. ¹⁷ And the men of the city went out and fought with Joab, and some of the people fell of David's servants. And Uriah the Hittite also died. ¹⁸ And Joab sent and told David all the matters of the war. ¹⁹ And he commanded the messenger, saying, As you finish all the matters of the war, speaking to the king, ²⁰ then it shall be, if the king's fury rises, and he says to you, Why did you draw near to the city to fight? Did you not know that they would shoot from off the wall? ²¹ Who killed Abimelech the son of Jerub-besheth? Did not a woman throw a piece of a riding millstone on him from the wall, and he died in Thebez? Why did you draw near to the wall? Then you shall say, Also your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead. ²² And the messenger went and came and told David all that which Joab had sent him to tell, ²³ and the messenger said to David, Surely the men have been mighty against us, and came out to us into the field. And we were on them to the entrance of the gate. ²⁴ And those shooting shot at your servants from off the wall, and some of the servants of the king are dead. And also your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead. ²⁵ And David said to the messenger, You shall say to Joab, Do not let this thing be evil in your eyes. For the sword devours one as well as another. Make your battle stronger against the city, and overthrow it. And make him strong. ²⁶ And Uriah's wife heard that her husband Uriah was dead. And she mourned for her husband. ²⁷ And the mourning time passed by. And David sent and gathered her to his house; and she became his wife, and bore a son to him. And the thing which David had done was evil in the eyes of Jehovah.

¹⁰ And now the sword shall not turn aside from your house continually, because you have despised Me, and have taken the wile of Uriah the Hittite to be a wife to you.

⁶ And he made his sons to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and did magic and divined, and used sorcery, and used mediums and conjurers; he multiplied the doing of the evil in the eyes of Jehovah, to provoke Him to anger.

⁴ Against You, You only, I have sinned, and done evil in Your eyes; that You might be justified in Your speaking and be clear when You judge.

⁸ You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your face.

¹ To the chief musician. A Psalm of David. O Jehovah, You have searched me and known me . ² You know my sitting down, and my rising up; You understand my thought from afar off.

²⁴ So, as the tongue of fire devours the stubble, and the flame burns up the chaff; their root shall be like rottenness, and their blossoms shall go up like dust, because they have cast away the law of Jehovah of Hosts; and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁰ if it does evil in My eye, not to obey My voice, then I will repent of the good which I had said to do good to it.

⁴ So says Jehovah: For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn back from it; for they despised the law of Jehovah, and they have not kept His statutes. And their lies after which their fathers walked led them astray.

²⁸ If anyone did not regard the Law of Moses, that one dies without pities on " the word of two or three witnesses." Deut. 17:6 ²⁹ How much worse punishment do you think will be thought worthy to receive, the one trampling the Son of God, and having counted common the blood of the covenant in which he was sanctified, and having insulted the Spirit of grace?

³ But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night and said to him, Behold, you are about to die because of the woman you have taken, she being married to a husband.

²⁰ but to a month of days, until it comes out of your nostrils, and it shall become to you a loathsome thing; because you have loathed Jehovah, who is in your midst, and weep before Him, saying, Why is it that we have come out of Egypt?

³⁰ So says Jehovah the God of Israel, I said indeed that your house and your father's house should walk before Me until forever. But now Jehovah says, Be it far from Me! For those who honor Me, I will honor; and those despising Me will be despicable.

²⁸ And Absalom commanded his young men, saying, Now watch when Amnon's heart is glad with wine, and when I say to you, Strike Amnon, you shall kill him. Do not fear. Did not I command you? Be strong, and be valiant. ²⁹ And the young men of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom commanded. And all the king's sons rose up, and they each rode on his mule, and fled.

¹⁴ And Joab said, I will not wait this wait before you. And he took three darts in his hand and struck them into Absalom's heart while he was alive, in the midst of the oak. ¹⁵ And they went around, ten young men bearing Joab's weapons, and struck Absalom, and killed him.

³³ And the king trembled. And he went up to the upper room of the gate and wept. And he said this as he went, My son! My son Absalom! My son Absalom! Oh that I had died instead of you, my son Absalom, my son!

²³ And king Solomon swore by Jehovah, saying, So shall God do to me, and so shall He do more, if not Adonijah has not spoken this word against his life. ²⁴ And now, as Jehovah lives, who has established me and caused me to sit on the throne of my father David, and who has made a house for me, as He spoke, surely today Adonijah shall be put to death. ²⁵ And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and he fell on him, and he died.

³² He who commits adultery with a woman lacks heart; he who does it is a destroyer of his own soul. ³³ He shall find a wound and dishonor, and his shame shall not be wiped away.

⁹ And the high places of Isaac shall be desolated, and the holy places of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

⁶ A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My fear? says Jehovah of hosts to you, O priests who despise My name. But you say, In what have we despised Your name? ⁷ You are offering defiled food on My altar, and you say, In what have we defiled You? It is in your saying, The table of Jehovah, it is to be despicable.

²⁴ No one is able to serve two lords; for either he will hate the one, and he will love the other; or he will cleave to the one, and he will despise the other. You are not able to serve God and wealth.

⁵² Then Jesus said to him, Put your sword back into its place. For all who take the sword shall perish by a sword.

⁴ Or do you despise the riches of His kindness, and the forbearance and the longsuffering, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

⁸ Therefore, the one that despises does not despise man, but God, even He giving His Holy Spirit to us.

³⁰ You shall betroth a wife, and another shall lie with her. You shall build a house, and you shall not live in it. You shall plant a vineyard, and shall not use its fruit.

¹ And afterward it happened that Absalom the son of David had a beautiful sister, and her name was Tamar. And Amnon the son of David loved her. ² And Amnon was distressed, even to becoming sick, because of his sister Tamar. For she was a virgin, and it was hard in the eyes of Amnon to do anything to her. ³ And Amnon had a friend, and his name was Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David's brother. And Jonadab was a very shrewd man. ⁴ And he said to him, Why are you, the king's son, so puny morning by morning? Will you not tell me? And Amnon said to him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister. ⁵ And Jonadab said to him, Lie down on your bed and pretend to be ill. And your father will come in to see you, and you shall say to him, Please let my sister Tamar come in and give me food to eat. And she shall make the food before my eyes, so that I may see and may eat from her hand. ⁶ And Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill. And the king came to see him. And Amnon said to the king, Please let my sister Tamar come, and she shall make two cakes before my eyes, and I shall eat from her hand. ⁷ And David sent home to Tamar, saying, Please go to the house of your brother Amnon and make food for him. ⁸ And Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house. And he was lying down. And she took the dough, and kneaded it, and made cakes before his eyes, and baked the cakes. ⁹ And she took the baking pan and poured out before him. But he refused to eat, and Amnon said, Cause every man to go out from me. And every one of them went out from him. ¹⁰ And Amnon said to Tamar, Bring the food into the inner room, and I shall eat from your hand. And Tamar took the cakes that she had made and brought them in to her brother Amnon, into the inner room. ¹¹ And she brought near to him to eat. And he lay hold on her, and said to her, Come lie with me, my sister. ¹² And she said to him, No, my brother, do not humble me, for it is not done so in Israel. Do not do this foolishness. ¹³ And I, where should I cause my disgrace to go? And you, you shall be as one of the fools in Israel. But now please speak to the king; for he shall not withhold me from you. ¹⁴ But he was not willing to listen to her voice. And he was stronger than she, and humbled her, and lay with her.

⁶ And Absalom acted this way to all Israel who came in to the king for judgment. And Absalom stole the heart of the men of Israel.

¹⁰ And Absalom sent spies among all the tribes of Israel, saying, When you hear the sound of the ram's horn, then you shall say, Absalom is king in Hebron.

²¹ And Ahithophel said to Absalom, Go in to your father's concubines, those he left to keep the house. And all Israel shall hear that you have become odious with your father. And the hands of all who are with you will be strong. ²² And they spread out a tent for Absalom on the roof. And Absalom went to his father's concubines before the eyes of all Israel.

⁹ And the prophet, if he is deceived, and he speaks a word, I, Jehovah, have deceived that prophet. And I will stretch out My hand on him and will destroy him from the midst of My people Israel.

²⁵ Therefore I also gave them statutes that were not good and by which they could not live. ²⁶ And I defiled them by their own gifts, by making all that open the womb to cross the fire, so that I might waste them, to the end that they might know that I am Jehovah.

¹³ They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains and burn incense on the hills, under oak and poplar and terebinth, because its shade is good. On account of this, your daughters shall prostitute, and your brides shall commit adultery. ¹⁴ I will not punish your daughters when they fornicate, nor your brides when they commit adultery. For the men themselves go aside with harlots, and they sacrifice with temple prostitutes. The people who do not understand are thrust down.

⁴ And David sent messengers and took her. And she came to him, and he lay with her. And she purified herself from uncleanness, and she returned to her house. ⁵ And the woman conceived, and sent, and told David. And she said, I am with child. ⁶ And David sent to Joab, Send Uriah the Hittite to me. And Joab sent Uriah to David. ⁷ And Uriah came to him. And David asked the peace of Joab, and the peace of the people, and of the success of the war. ⁸ And David said to Uriah, Go down to your house and wash your feet. And Uriah went out of the king's house, and a gilt from the king went out after him. ⁹ Uriah lay down at the entrance of the king's house, with all the servants of his lord. And he did not go down to his house. ¹⁰ And they told David, saying, Uriah did not go down to his house. And David said to Uriah, Have you not come from a journey? Why have you not gone down to your house? ¹¹ And Uriah said to David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah dwell in booths. And my lord Joab, and my lord's servants are camping on the face of the field. And I, shall I go into my house to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing. ¹² And David said to Uriah, Remain here today also, and tomorrow I will send you away. And Uriah remained in Jerusalem on that day, and on the next day. ¹³ And David called for him, and he ate and drank before him. And he made him drunk, and he went out in the evening to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord. And he did not go down to his house. ¹⁴ And it happened in the morning David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah. ¹⁵ And he wrote in the letter, saying, Place Uriah in the front of the strongest fighting, and withdraw from him, that he may be struck, and die.

¹⁴ For God shall bring every work into judgment, with all that is hidden, whether it is good, or whether it is evil.

¹ At which time the myriads of the crowd being gathered together, so as to trample on one another, He began to say to His disciples first, Take heed to yourselves of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. ² But there is nothing which has been completely concealed which will not be uncovered, nor hidden which will not be known.

⁵ Then do not judge anything before time, until the Lord comes, who will both shed light on the hidden things of darkness and will reveal the counsels of the hearts. And then praise will be to each one from God.

¹⁰ And a man who commits adultery with a man's wife, who commits adultery with the wife of his neighbor, the adulterer and the adulteress are surely to be put to death.

¹⁷ And a man, when he strikes the soul from any man, he shall surely be put to death.

³¹ And you shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer; he is punishable for death, for dying he shall die. ³² And you shall take no ransom for him to flee to the city of his refuge, to return to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest. ³³ And you shall not pollute the land in which you are, for blood pollutes the land. And no ransom is to be taken for the land for blood which is shed in it, except for the blood of him who sheds it;

²⁰ And Saul said to Samuel, I did obey the voice of Jehovah, and I went in the way which Jehovah sent me, and brought Agag the king of Amalek, and I exterminated Amalek.

²⁴ And Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned, for I have transgressed the mouth of Jehovah and your word, because I feared the people, and I listened to their voice. ²⁵ And now please lift up my sin, and return with me that I may worship Jehovah.

³⁰ And he said, I have sinned. Honor me now, I beg you, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and return with me. And I shall worship Jehovah your God.

¹⁰ And after he had numbered the people, the heart of David struck him. And David said to Jehovah, I have sinned greatly in that which I have done. And now, O Jehovah, I pray, take away the iniquity of your servant, for I have acted very foolishly.

⁴ And it happened when king Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God which he had cried against the altar in Bethel, he put out his hand from the altar, saying, Seize him. And his hand which he put out against him withered, and he was not able to bring it back to him.

²⁰ And Ahab said to Elijah, Have you found me, O my enemy? And he said, I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do that which is evil in the eyes of Jehovah.

⁸ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Yet one man, to seek Jehovah by him. But I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil, Micaiah the son of Imlah. And Jehoshaphat said, let not the king say so.

⁹ And the king sent to him the commander of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him. And behold, he was sitting on the top of the hill. And he spoke to him, O man of God, the king has said, Come down.

¹⁰ And Asa was angry with the seer; and he gave him up to the house of stocks. For he was in a rage with him for this. And Asa oppressed some of the people at that time.

²⁰ And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, and he stood before the people and said to them, So says God, Why do you transgress the commandments of Jehovah, and do not prosper? Because you have forsaken Jehovah, He has forsaken you. ²¹ And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones by the command of the king, in the court of the house of Jehovah. ²² And Joash the king did not remember the kindness that Jehoiada his father had done to him, and killed his son. And when he died, he said, Jehovah shall seek you out .

¹⁶ And it happened, as he spoke with him, that he said to him, Have we appointed you a counselor to the king? Stop! Why should they strike you? And the prophet stopped, and said, I know that God has counseled to destroy you because you have done this, and have not listened to my counsel.

²⁰ I have sinned; what do I do to You, O Watcher of man? Why have You set me as a target for You, so that I am a burden on myself? ²¹ And why do You not pardon my transgression, and make my iniquity pass away? For now I shall lie down in the dust, and You shall seek me; but I will not be.

²⁷ He will observe to men and say, I have sinned, and I have perverted uprightness; and it was not equally repaid to me;

¹ A Psalm of David. A Contemplation. Blessed is he whose transgression is lifted, whose sin is covered. ² Blessed is the man to whom Jehovah does not charge iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile. ³ When I kept silence, then my bones became old, through my howling all day. ⁴ For by day and by night Your hand was heavy on me; my sap was turned into the droughts of summer. Selah. ⁵ I confessed my sin to You, and I have not hidden my iniquity; I said, I will confess over my transgression to Jehovah; and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

¹⁶ For you do not desire sacrifice, or I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering.

³ If You will keep iniquities, O Jehovah, O Lord, who shall stand? ⁴ But forgiveness is with You that You may be feared.

¹² As a ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover on a hearing ear.

¹³ He who covers his sins never prospers, but he who confesses and forsakes them shall have pity.

⁵ Then I said, Woe is me! For I am cut off; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live amongst a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, Jehovah of Hosts. ⁶ Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, snatched with tongs from the altar. ⁷ And he touched it on my mouth, and said, See, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away, and your sin is covered.

¹⁷ Behold, for peace was bitter to me, most bitter; but You loved my soul from the pit of destruction; You have cast all my sins behind Your back.

²⁴ You have not bought calamus for Me with silver, nor have you filled Me with fat of your sacrifices; but you made Me serve by your sins; you wearied Me by your iniquities.

²² I have blotted out your transgressions like a thick cloud; and your sins like a cloud. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.

³² For though He causes grief, He will have pity according to His many kindnesses.

¹⁸ Who is a God like You, forgiving iniquity and passing by the transgression of the remnant of His possession? He does not make strong His anger forever, for He delights in grace. ¹⁹ He will return to show us compassion; He will trample our iniquities. Yea, You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

⁴ And He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And He said to him, Behold, I have caused your iniquity to pass from you, and I will clothe you with ceremonial robes.

³ For seizing John, Herod bound him and put him into prison, because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip. ⁴ For John said to him, It is not lawful for you to have her. ⁵ And desiring to kill him, he feared the multitude, because they held him as a prophet.

¹⁰ And sending, he beheaded John in the prison.

²¹ And the son said to him, Father, I have sinned against Heaven and before you, and no longer am I worthy to be called your son.

³⁷ And hearing, they were stabbed in the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, Men, brothers, What shall we do?

³⁸ Then let it be known to you, men, brothers, that through this One remission of sin is announced to you. ³⁹ And everyone believing in this One is justified from all things which you could not be justified by the Law of Moses.

³³ Who will bring any charge against God's elect? God is the One justifying! ³⁴ Who is he condemning? It is Christ who has died, but rather also is raised, who also is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.

²⁶ since He must often have suffered from the foundation of the world. But now once for all, at the completion of the ages, He has been manifested for putting away of sin through the sacrifice of Himself.

⁷ But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of His Son Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin.

⁵ even from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the First-born out of the dead, and the Ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him loving us and washing us from our sins by His blood,

⁹ Also I said, The thing you do is not good. Should you not walk in the fear of God because of the reproach of the nations, our enemies?

¹⁰ O God, until when shall the enemy defame You ? Shall the enemy scorn Your name forever?

³¹ if they profane My statutes and do not keep My commandments; ³² then I will visit their transgressions with the rod, and their sins with stripes. ³³ But I will not annul My mercy from him, and I will not be false in My faithfulness.

¹² Blessed is the man You chasten, O Jehovah, You teach him out of Your law;

¹¹ My son, do not reject the chastening of Jehovah, and do not loathe His correction; ¹² for whom Jehovah loves He corrects, even as a father corrects the son with whom he is pleased.

⁵ So then what is to Me here, declares Jehovah? For My people is taken for nothing; his rulers howl, declares Jehovah. And My name is continually despised, every day.

²⁰ And when they entered into the nations, there where they went, they even profaned My holy name, by saying to them, These are the people of Jehovah, and they are gone out of His land. ²¹ But I had pity for My holy name which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations, there where they went. ²² Therefore, say to the house of Israel, So says the Lord Jehovah: I do not do this for your sake, O house of Israel, but only for My holy name which you profaned among the nations, there where you went. ²³ And I will sanctify My great name which was profaned among the nations, which you profaned among them. And the nations shall know that I am Jehovah, declares the Lord Jehovah, when I am sanctified in you in their eyes.

² You only have I known of all the families of the earth. On account of this, I will punish you for all your iniquities.

⁷ Woe to the world from its offenses! It is a necessity for the offenses to come, yet woe to that man through whom the offense comes!

²⁴ For the name of God is blasphemed among the nations through you, even as it has been written: Isa. 52:5

³² But being judged, we are corrected by the Lord, that we not be condemned with the world.

⁶ For whom the Lord loves, He disciplines, and whips every son whom He receives." Prov. 3:11, 12

¹⁹ I, as many "as I love, I rebuke and I chasten." Be zealous, then, and repent. Prov. 3:12

³⁹ See now that I, I am He, and there is no other God with Me. I kill, and I keep alive. I wound and I heal, and there is no deliverer from My hand.

³⁸ And it happened about ten days later, Jehovah struck Nabal and he died.

¹⁰ And David said, As Jehovah lives, except Jehovah strike him, or his day shall come and he dies, or he goes down and is devoured in battle,

⁵ And Jehovah touched the king, and he was a leper to the day of his death; and he lived in a separate house, and Jotham the son of the king was over the house, judging the people of the land.

²⁰ And Jeroboam did not regain power any more in Abijah's days. And Jehovah struck him, and he died.

²⁹ You hide Your face, and they are troubled; You gather their breath, and they expire and return to their dust.

²³ And instantly an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give the glory to God. And having been eaten by worms, his soul went out.

²² And he said, While the boy was alive, I fasted and wept. For I said, Who knows? Jehovah may be gracious to me and the boy may stay alive.

³¹ And the king rose up and tore his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants were standing by with torn garments.

²⁷ And it happened, when Ahab heard these words, he tore his garments, and put sackcloth on his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

¹⁶ Go, gather all the Jews being found in Shushan, and fast for me. And do not eat or drink three days, night or day. My maidens and I will also fast in this way. And so I will go in to the king, which is not according to the law. And if I have perished, I have perished.

¹² Even if evil is sweet in his mouth (he hides it under his tongue), ¹³ he spares it, and will not leave it; yea, keeps holding it in his mouth); ¹⁴ yet his food in his belly shall be turned; the gall of asps is within him.

¹⁵ And call on Me in the day of distress; and I will save you; and you shall glorify Me.

¹⁰ When I humbled my soul with fasting, it also was to my reproach;

¹² And in that day the Lord Jehovah of Hosts called to weeping and mourning; and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth.

¹⁶ Jehovah, they visited You in distress; they poured out a whisper; Your chastening was to them.

¹² Yet even now turn to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning, declares Jehovah. ¹³ Yea, tear your heart, and not your robes; and turn to Jehovah your God. For He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and He pities concerning the evil. ¹⁴ Who knows if He will turn and have pity and leave a blessing behind Him, a food offering and a drink offering for Jehovah your God?

⁹ Who knows? He may turn, and God may have pity and turn away from the glow of His anger, that we do not perish.

⁹ And he was three days not seeing, and did not eat or drink.

²³ And he refused, and said, I will not eat. But his servants forced him, and the woman also. And he listened to their voices and rose from the earth and sat on the bed.

³⁵ And all the people came to cause David to eat food while it was yet day. But David swore, saying, So may God do to me, and still more, if I taste bread or anything before the sun goes in.

¹⁵ that our fathers went down to Egypt, and we lived in Egypt many days, and the Egyptians did evil to us and to our fathers.

³ And you shall bathe, and anoint yourself, and put your garments on you, and go down to the threshing floor. Do not let yourself be known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking.

¹⁷ And they brought the ark of Jehovah in, and set it up in its place, in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it. And David caused burnt offerings to be offered before Jehovah, and peace offerings.

¹⁸ And king David came in and sat before Jehovah, and said: Who am I, O Lord Jehovah, and what is my house, that you have brought me here?

²⁰ And Job rose up and tore his robe, and shaved his head. And he fell down on the ground and worshiped.

¹⁰ But he said to her, You speak as one of the foolish ones speak. Also, shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

⁹ I was dumb; I did not open my mouth, because You had done it .

⁸ Let your garments be white at every time; and let your head lack no ointment.

³⁹ What? Should mankind complain, living man because of his sins? ⁴⁰ Let us search and examine our ways, and turn again to Jehovah. ⁴¹ Let us lift up our heart and palms to God in Heaven.

¹⁷ But you in fasting, anoint your head and wash your face,

¹⁵ But the spiritual one discerns all things, but he is discerned by no one.

¹ In those days Hezekiah was sick to death. And Isaiah the son of Amoz, the prophet, came to him and said to him, So says Jehovah, Command your house, for you are dying, and shall not live. ² And Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to Jehovah, ³ and said, O Jehovah, I beg You to remember now that I have walked before You in truth and with a whole heart; and I have done the good in Your eyes. And Hezekiah wept with a great weeping.

⁵ Go and say to Hezekiah, So says Jehovah the God of your father David, I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your days.

¹⁴ Set apart a fast; call a solemn assembly; gather the elders, all the inhabitants of the land, into the house of Jehovah your God, and cry to Jehovah.

¹⁴ Who knows if He will turn and have pity and leave a blessing behind Him, a food offering and a drink offering for Jehovah your God?

¹⁵ Hate evil, and love good, and establish justice in the gate. It may be that Jehovah the God of hosts will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

⁶ And the chief of the seamen came near to him and said to him, What is it to you, O sound sleeper? Rise up and cry out to your God! It may be our god will notice us, and we will not perish.

⁹ Who knows? He may turn, and God may have pity and turn away from the glow of His anger, that we do not perish. ¹⁰ And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. And God was compassionate over the evil that He had declared to do to them, and He did not do it .

⁹ Be distressed, and mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy into shame. ¹⁰ Be humbled before the Lord, and He will exalt you.

³⁵ And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him. And he refused to be comforted, and said, I will go down to Sheol mourning for my son. And his father wept for him.

⁸ The eye of him who sees me shall gaze at me no more; Your eyes are on me, and I am not. ⁹ As the clouds fade and vanish, so he who goes down to Sheol shall not come up. ¹⁰ He shall return no more to his house; nor shall his place know him any more.

²³ For I know that You will bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.

⁴³ And Jesus said to him, Truly I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.

¹² When your days are fulfilled, and you lie with your fathers, then I shall raise up your seed after you, who shall come out from your bowels, and I shall establish his kingdom.

⁵ And these were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon, four to Bathsheba the daughter of Ammiel;

⁹ Behold, a son shall be born to you; he shall be a man of rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies all around, for Solomon shall be his name, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days; ¹⁰ he shall build a house to My name, and he shall be a son to Me, and I a Father to him; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.

⁵ And of all my sons, for Jehovah has given me many sons, He has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of Jehovah, over Israel. ⁶ And He said to me, Your son Solomon shall build My house and My courts, for I have chosen him as a son to Me, and I surely will be a Father to him.

¹ And David the king said to all the congregation, My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and tender. And the work is great, for the magnificent house is not for man, but for Jehovah God.

⁶ and Jesse fathered David the king. And David the king fathered Solomon out of her who had been the wife of Uriah,

⁴ And it happened in that night, the word of Jehovah came to Nathan, saying,

¹ And Jehovah sent Nathan to David. And he came to him and said to him, There were two men in one city, the one rich, and the other poor. ² The rich one had flocks and very many herds. ³ But the poor one had nothing except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished. And it grew up with him, and with his sons together, and it ate of his morsel, and it drank from his cup, and it lay in his bosom. And it was like a daughter to him. ⁴ And a traveler came to the rich one, and he spared to take of his own flock, and of his own herd, to prepare for the traveler who had come to him. And he took the ewe lamb of the poor man, and prepared it for the man who had come to him. ⁵ And David's anger glowed greatly against the man. And he said to Nathan, As Jehovah lives, surely the man who did this is a son of death. ⁶ And he shall repay fourfold for the ewe lamb, because he has done this thing, and because he had no pity. ⁷ And Nathan said to David, You are the man! So says Jehovah, the God of Israel, I anointed you as king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul. ⁸ And I gave you the house of your master, and your master's wives into your bosom. And I gave you the house of Israel and of Judah. And if that were too little, then I would have added to you these and those things . ⁹ Why have you despised the word of Jehovah, to do the evil in His eyes? You have stricken Uriah the Hittite by the sword, and you have taken his wife to yourself for a wife. And you have killed him by the sword of the sons of Ammon. ¹⁰ And now the sword shall not turn aside from your house continually, because you have despised Me, and have taken the wile of Uriah the Hittite to be a wife to you. ¹¹ So says Jehovah, Behold, I shall raise up evil against you out of your house, and shall take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor. And he shall lie with your wives in the sight of the sun. ¹² For you acted in secret, but I will do this thing before all Israel and before the sun. ¹³ And David said to Nathan, I have sinned against Jehovah. And Nathan said to David, Jehovah also has put away your sin; you shall not die. ¹⁴ Only, because you have made the enemies of Jehovah to scorn derisively by this thing, also the son who shall be born to you shall surely die.

¹¹ And Nathan spoke to Bathsheba, the mother of Solomon, saying, Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith reigns, and our lord David does not know?

²³ And they told the king, saying, Behold, Nathan the prophet! And he came in before the king and bowed to the king on his face to the earth.

²⁶ Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? Yet among many nations there was no king like him, who was beloved by his God; and God made him king over Israel. But women from other lands caused even him to sin.

¹⁷ And behold! A voice out of the heaven saying, This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I have found delight. Psa. 2:7; Gen. 22:2; Isa. 42:1

⁵ While he was yet speaking, behold, a radiant cloud overshadowed them. And, behold, a voice out of the cloud saying, This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I delight; hear Him. Psa. 2:7; Gen. 22:2; Isa. 42:1; Deut. 18:15

¹¹ For only Og the king of Bashan remained of the rest of the giants. Behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the sons of Ammon, nine cubits long and four cubits broad, by the cubit of a man?

¹ And it happened, at the time of the return of the year, at the time when kings go forth, that Joab led out the power of the army and wasted the country of the Ammonites and came and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem. And Joab struck Rabbah and overthrew it. ² And David took the crown of their king from his head, and found it a talent of gold in weight, and a precious stone in it; and it was set on David's head. And he also brought out the plunder of the city, a very great amount. ³ And he brought out the people in it; and they sawed with saws, and with sharp tools of iron, and with the axes. And so David did to all the cities of the Ammonites. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

¹ And it happened at the turn of the year, at the time when kings go out, David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel. And they destroyed the sons of Ammon, and lay siege to Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem.

²⁰ You shall set a way that the sword may enter into Rabbah of the sons of Amnion, and into Judah, into fortified Jerusalem.

¹⁸ The one speaking from himself seeks his own glory. But the one seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, this One is true, and unrighteousness is not in Him.

² And David took the crown of their king from his head, and found it a talent of gold in weight, and a precious stone in it; and it was set on David's head. And he also brought out the plunder of the city, a very great amount.

² And he struck Moab, and measured them with a line; making them to lie down on the ground. And he measured two lines to put to death, and one full line to keep alive. And the Moabites were slaves to David, bearers of a gift.

³ And he brought out the people in it; and they sawed with saws, and with sharp tools of iron, and with the axes. And so David did to all the cities of the Ammonites. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

⁸ Your hand shall find out all Your enemies; Your right hand shall find out Your haters. ⁹ You shall set them as a fiery furnace in the time of Your presence; Jehovah will swallow them up in His wrath, and the fire will devour them.

³ So says Jehovah: For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn back from it, for they have threshed Gilead with threshing sledges of iron.
