¹ And there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim from the hills of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite. ² And he had two wives the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the second, Peninnah. And Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children. ³ And that man went up from his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice before Jehovah of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests to Jehovah there. ⁴ And came the day, and Elkanah sacrificed. And he would give to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and her daughters portions. ⁵ And to Hannah he gave one double portion, for he loved Hannah. And Jehovah had shut up her womb. ⁶ And even to vexation her rival provoked her, so as to make her tremble, because Jehovah had shut up her womb. ⁷ And so he did year by year, as often as she went up to the house of Jehovah, so she provoked her. And she wept, and did not eat. ⁸ And her husband Elkanah said to her, Hannah, why do you weep? And why do you not eat? And why is your heart afflicted? Am I not better to you than ten sons? ⁹ And Hannah rose up after eating in Shiloh, and after drinking. And Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the side post of the temple of Jehovah. ¹⁰ And she was bitter of soul, and prayed to Jehovah, and she wept copiously. ¹¹ And she vowed a vow, and said, O Jehovah of hosts, if You will certainly look upon the affliction of Your handmaid, and shall remember me, and not forget Your handmaid, and shall give to Your maidservant a man-child, then I will give him to Jehovah all the days of his life; and a razor shall not go up on his head. ¹² And it happened, when she prayed long before Jehovah, Eli was watching her mouth. ¹³ And Hannah was speaking in her heart; only, her lips moved; but her voice could not be heard. So Eli thought that she was drunk. ¹⁴ And Eli said to her, How long will you be drunken? Put away your wine from you. ¹⁵ And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord; I am a woman pained in spirit. And I have not drunk wine or fermented drink, but I am pouring out my soul before Jehovah. ¹⁶ Do not put your handmaid down for a daughter of wickedness; for from the abundance of my complaint and vexation until now I have been speaking. ¹⁷ And Eli answered and said, Go in peace, and may the God of Israel give you your petition which you have asked of Him. ¹⁸ And she said, Let your handmaid find grace in your eyes. And the woman went her way, and ate, and her face was no longer sad. ¹⁹ And they rose up early in the morning and worshiped before Jehovah. And they went back and came to their house in Ramah. And Elkanah knew his wife Hannah, and Jehovah remembered her. ²⁰ And it happened when the time had come around, Hannah conceived and bore a son. And she called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of Jehovah. ²¹ And the man Elkanah and all his house went up to sacrifice to Jehovah a sacrifice of the days, and to vow his vow. ²² And Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, Until the child is weaned, then I will bring him, that he may appear before Jehovah and remain there forever. ²³ And her husband Elkanah said to her, Do that which is good in your eyes. Remain until you wean him. Only, may Jehovah confirm His word. And the woman remained, and suckled her son until she had weaned him. ²⁴ And when she had weaned him, she brought him up with her, along with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a skin of wine. And she brought him to the house of Jehovah at Shiloh. And the child was a young one. ²⁵ And they slaughtered the bullock, and brought the boy to Eli. ²⁶ And she said, O my lord, may your soul live! My lord, I am the woman who stood with you here, to pray to Jehovah. ²⁷ I prayed for this boy, and Jehovah has given my petition which I asked of Him to me. ²⁸ And I also have loaned him to Jehovah; all the days which he shall be, he is loaned to Jehovah. And he worshiped there before Jehovah.

¹⁷ And Joshua spoke to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, You are a numerous people, and have great power; you shall not have one lot, ¹⁸ because the hill is yours; because it is a forest, you shall cut it down, and its outer limits shall be yours; for you shall expel the Canaanite, even though it has chariots of iron; even though it is strong.

³³ And Eleazar the son of Aaron died, and they buried him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given to him in the hills of Ephraim.

⁵ And Gilead captured the fords of the Jordan before Ephraim. And it happened when the fugitives from Ephraim said, Let me pass over, then the men of Gilead said to him, You are an Ephraimite. And he said, No.

¹ And there was a man of the hills of Ephraim, and his name was Micah.

¹ And it happened in those days when there was no king in Israel, there was a man, a Levite, living on the further side of the hills of Ephraim. And he took a wife to himself, a concubine out of Bethlehem-judah.

² And the name of the man was Elimelech; and the name of his wife Naomi. And the name of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites from Bethlehem-judah. And they came into the fields of Moab, and remained there.

¹⁹ And they rose up early in the morning and worshiped before Jehovah. And they went back and came to their house in Ramah. And Elkanah knew his wife Hannah, and Jehovah remembered her.

⁵ And they came to the land of Zuph, and Saul said to his young man with him, Come and we shall turn back, lest my father give up the asses and become anxious for us.

¹² And David was the son of an Ephrathite of Bethlehem-Judah named Jesse. And to him were eight sons. And the man was old among men in the days of Saul.

²⁶ And Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephrathite of Zereda, a servant of Solomon (and his mother's name was Zeruah, a widow woman) he also lifted up a hand against the king.

²⁵ And the sons of Elkanah: Amasai and Ahimoth, ²⁶ Elkanah; the sons of Elkanah: Zophai, his son; and Nahath, his son; ²⁷ Eliab, his son; Jeroham, his son; Elkanah, his son;

³⁴ the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah,

⁵⁷ And evening having come, a rich man from Arimathea (Joseph by name) who also himself was discipled to Jesus,

¹⁹ And Lamech took two wives to himself: the name of the first was Adah; and the name of the second was Zillah.

²³ And Lamech said to his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice, you wives of Lamech; listen to my words; for I have killed a man because of my wound, and a young man because of my hurt.

¹ And Sarai, Abram's wife, did not bear to him; and to her belonged a female slave, an Egyptian, and her name was Hagar. ² And Sarai said to Abram, See, now, Jehovah has kept me from bearing; go in now to my slave-girl; perhaps I may be built up from her. And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.

²¹ And Isaac prayed to Jehovah for his wife for she was barren. And Jehovah was entreated for him, and his wife Rebekah conceived.

²³ And it happened in the evening, he took his daughter Leah and brought her to him; and he went in to her. ²⁴ And Laban gave to her Zilpah, his slave-girl, to his daughter Leah as a slave. ²⁵ And it happened in the morning; behold! She was Leah. And he said to Laban, What have you done to me? Did I not serve with you for Rachel? And why have you tricked me? ²⁶ And Laban said, It is not done this way in our place, to give the younger before the first born. ²⁷ Fulfill the week of this one and we will also give you this other one, for the service which you will serve with me, yet another seven years. ²⁸ And Jacob did so, and he fulfilled the week of this one, and he gave to him his daughter Rachel, to him for a wife. ²⁹ And Laban gave his slave-girl Bilhah to his daughter Rachel, to her for a slave-girl.

³¹ And Jehovah saw that Leah was hated. And He opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.

¹⁵ If a man has two wives, the one loved, and the other hated; and they have borne him sons, both the loved one and the hated one; and if the first-born son was of her who was hated, ¹⁶ then it shall be, in the day that he causes his son to inherit that which he has, he may not cause to inherit the son of the loved one the first-born before the son of the hated one, who is truly the first-born. ¹⁷ But he shall acknowledge the first-born, the son of the hated one, by giving him a double portion of all that he has; for he is the firstfruit of his strength, the right of the first-born is his.

³⁰ And seventy sons were born to Gideon, coming out of his loins; for he had many wives.

² And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, and his name was Manoah. And his wife was barren, and had not borne.

⁸ He said to them, In view of your hardheartedness, Moses allowed you to put away your wives. But from the beginning it was not so.

⁷ And no child was born to them, because Elizabeth was barren. And both were advanced in their days.

³⁶ And there was Anna, a prophetess, a daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in many days, having lived seven years with a husband from her virginity;

¹⁴ Three times in the year you shall make a feast to Me.

¹⁷ Three times in the year every one of your males shall appear before the Lord Jehovah.

²³ Three times in the year every male of yours shall be seen before the face of the Lord Jehovah, the God of Israel.

⁵ But you shall seek to the place which Jehovah your God shall choose out of all your tribes; for you shall seek His dwelling, to put His name there. And you shall go there. ⁶ And you shall bring your burnt offerings there, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and your vows, and your freewill offering, and the firstlings of your herd and of your flock. ⁷ And you shall eat there before Jehovah your God, and shall rejoice in all that you put your hand to, you and your households, with which Jehovah your God has blessed you.

¹¹ And it shall be the place which Jehovah your God shall choose to cause His name to dwell there, there you shall bring all that I am commanding you, your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice freewill offerings which you vow to Jehovah. ¹² And you shall rejoice before Jehovah your God, you and your sons, and your daughters, and your male slaves, and your female slaves, and the Levite within your gates because he has no portion or inheritance with you. ¹³ Take heed to yourself that you not offer your burnt offerings in every place that you see; ¹⁴ but in the place which Jehovah shall choose in one of your tribes, there you shall offer your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all that I command.

¹⁶ Three times in a year shall all your males appear before Jehovah your God in the place which He shall choose: In the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and in the Feast of Weeks and in the Feast of Tabernacles. And they shall not appear before Jehovah empty,

¹ And all the company of the sons of Israel were gathered at Shiloh. And they established the tabernacle of the congregation there. And the land had been subdued before them.

³¹ And they set up for themselves Micah's graven image, which he had made, all the days that the house of God was in Shiloh.

⁹ And Hannah rose up after eating in Shiloh, and after drinking. And Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the side post of the temple of Jehovah.

²¹ And the man Elkanah and all his house went up to sacrifice to Jehovah a sacrifice of the days, and to vow his vow.

¹² And the sons of Eli were sons of worthlessness; they did not know Jehovah. ¹³ And the custom of the priests with the people was : any man offering a sacrifice, (and the priest's servant came when the flesh was boiling, with the three-toothed hook in his hand), ¹⁴ even he stuck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the hook brought up, the priest took for himself. So they did to all Israel who came in there to Shiloh. ¹⁵ Yea, before they made the fat to smoke, then the priest's servant came in. And he said to the man who was sacrificing, Give meat to roast for the priest; and he will not take boiled meat from you, but raw. ¹⁶ And if the man said to him, Let the fat be made to smoke as the day, and then take as much as your soul desires; then he would say, No, but you shall give now. And if not, I will take it by force. ¹⁷ And the sin of the young men was very great before Jehovah, for the men had despised the offering of Jehovah.

³⁴ And this shall be the sign to you, that which shall come on your two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: in one day the both of them shall die.

¹³ And I declare to him that I am judging his house forever, for the iniquity which he has known; for his sons have been making themselves vile, and he has not restrained them.

⁴ And the people sent to Shiloh, and they took from there the ark of the covenant of Jehovah of hosts, who dwells between the cherubs. And the two sons of Eli were there with the ark of the covenant of God, Hophni and Phinehas.

¹¹ And the ark of God was taken, and the two sons of Eli died, Hophni and Phinehas.

¹⁷ And he bearing the news answered and said, Israel has fled before the Philistines; and also there has been a great slaughter among the people. And also your two sons have died, Hophni and Phinehas. And the ark of God has been taken. ¹⁸ And it happened when he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell off the seat backward, by the side of the gate. And his neck was broken, and he died. For the man was old and heavy. And he judged Israel forty years.

⁶⁰ And He left the tabernacle of Shiloh; the tent He dwelt in among men;

¹² But go now to My place which was in Shiloh, where I made My name dwell at the first, and see what I did to it for the evil of My people Israel. ¹³ And now, because you have done all these works, says Jehovah, and I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you did not hear. Yea, I called you, but you did not answer. ¹⁴ And I will do to the house on which My name is called, in which you are trusting, and to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.

⁴¹ And His parents went into Jerusalem year by year at the Feast of the Passover.

⁴ and the two kidneys, and the fat on them, on the loins, and the fatty fold by the liver beside the kidneys; he shall remove.

¹⁵ As to the flesh of the sacrifice of the thanksgiving peace offerings, it shall be eaten in the day of his offering. He shall not leave of it until morning.

¹⁷ You may not eat the tithe of your grain within your gates, and of your new wine, and your oil, and the firstlings of your herd and of your flock, and any of your vows which you vow, and your freewill offering, and the heave offering of your hand. ¹⁸ But you shall eat it before Jehovah your God in the place which Jehovah your God shall choose, you and your son, and your daughter, and your male slave, and your female slave, and the Levite who is within your gates. And you shall rejoice before Jehovah your God in all that you put your hand to .

¹¹ And you shall rejoice before Jehovah your God, you and your son, and your daughter, and your male slave, and your slave-girl, and the Levite that is inside your gates, and the alien, and the fatherless, and the widow that are among you, in the place which Jehovah your God shall choose to cause His name to dwell there.

¹ And Sarai, Abram's wife, did not bear to him; and to her belonged a female slave, an Egyptian, and her name was Hagar.

¹⁸ For Jehovah had completely closed up every womb of the house of Abimelech because of Sarah, the wife of Abraham.

³⁰ And he also went in to Rachel, and he also loved Rachel more than Leah. And he served with him yet another seven years. ³¹ And Jehovah saw that Leah was hated. And He opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.

² And Jacob's anger glowed against Rachel, and he said, Am I in God's place, who has kept back from you the fruit of the womb?

³⁴ And one carried portions from before him to them, and Benjamin's portion was greater than the portions of all of them, five hands. And they drank and were drunken with him.

²² He gave to all of them, to each one, changes of clothing. And he gave to Benjamin three hundred pieces of silver, and five changes of clothing.

¹⁵ If a man has two wives, the one loved, and the other hated; and they have borne him sons, both the loved one and the hated one; and if the first-born son was of her who was hated,

¹⁸ And you shall not take a wife with her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her lifetime.

¹⁴ To the faint, mercy is due from his friend; for he forsakes the fear of the Almighty.

²¹ He ill treats the barren that bear not, and does no good to the widow.

¹⁹ And his mother made a small coat for him, and she brought it up to him from year to year, as she came up with her husband to offer the sacrifice of the days.

¹⁵ And may he be to you a restorer of life, and a nourisher of your old age, for your daughter-in-law who loves you has borne him, who is better to you than seven sons.

¹⁶ And David sought God for the child. And David fasted a fast, and went in and stayed the night, and lay on the earth. ¹⁷ And the elders of his house rose up toward him, to raise him up from the earth. But he was not willing; and he ate no bread with them.

¹² And Hazael said, Why is my lord weeping? And he said, Because I know the evil that you will do to the sons of Israel. You will send their fortified places into fire and you will slay their young men with the sword. And you will dash their sucklings to pieces; and you will rip up their pregnant women.

⁴ Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, the joy of my delight, and I will thank with the lyre, O God, my God.

¹ Rejoice, unfruitful one who never bore; break out a song and shout, you who never travailed. For the sons of the desolate one are more than the sons of the married woman, says Jehovah.

⁶ For Jehovah has called you as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, even a wife of young men when she is rejected, says your God.

¹³ And they said to her, Woman, why do you weep? She said to them, Because they took away my Lord, and I do not know where they put Him.

¹⁵ Jesus said to her, Woman, why do you weep? Whom do you seek? Thinking that it was the gardener, she said to Him, Sir, if you carried Him away, tell me where you put Him, and I will take Him away.

¹⁴ And we exhort you, brothers to warn the disobedient ones, comfort those that are fainthearted, sustain the weak, be long-suffering towards all.

³ And the lamp of God had not yet gone out. And Samuel was lying down in the temple of Jehovah, where the ark of God rested .

¹⁵ And Samuel lay until the morning. And he opened the doors of the house of Jehovah. And Samuel was afraid to tell the vision to Eli.

² The king said to Nathan the prophet, See, now, I am living in a house of cedar, and the ark of God dwells within tent curtains.

⁷ But I, in the plenty of Your grace, I will come into Your house. I will worship in Your fear toward Your holy temple, O Jehovah.

⁴ One thing I have asked from Jehovah, it I will seek: my dwelling in the house of Jehovah all the days of my life, to behold the delight of Jehovah, and to inquire in His temple.

⁹ The voice of Jehovah causes the does to calve, and He uncovers the forests. And in His temple, it all is saying, Glory!

¹⁰ And they came as far as the threshing floor of thorns, which is on the other side of the Jordan. And they mourned there with a great and very heavy mourning. And he made a lamentation for his father seven days.

² And the people came to Bethel, and sat there before God until the evening. And they lifted up their voices and wept a great weeping.

²⁰ And she said to them, Do not call me Naomi. Call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt bitterly with me.

³⁶ And it happened as he finished speaking, behold, the king's sons came. And they lifted up their voice and wept. And also the king and all his servants wept with a very great weeping.

⁸ And Hushai said, You have known your father and his men, that they are mighty men. And they are bitter of soul, like a bear bereaved of cubs in the field. And your father is a man of war, and shall not stay the night with the people.

³ I pray to You, O Jehovah, please remember how I have walked always before your face in truth, and with a perfect heart, and I have done the good in Your eyes. And Hezekiah wept with a great weeping.

¹¹ Therefore, I will not hold my mouth; I will speak in the distress of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁸ who will not allow me to take my breath, but fills me with bitterness.

¹ My soul loathes my life; I will leave my complaint on myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁵ And call on Me in the day of distress; and I will save you; and you shall glorify Me.

¹⁵ He shall call on Me and I will answer Him; I will be with Him in distress; I will rescue Him and honor Him.

¹⁵ What shall I say? For He speaks to me, and He has acted. I shall go softly all my years over the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁷ But if you will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride. And my eye shall bitterly weep and run down with tears, because the flock of Jehovah was captured.

¹⁰ Weep not for the dead nor moan for him; weep bitterly for him who goes away, for he shall return no more, nor see the land of his birth.

¹⁵ He has filled me with bitterness and made me drunk with wormwood.

⁴⁴ And being in an agony, He prayed more intently. And His sweat became as drops of blood falling down onto the earth.

⁷ who in the days of His flesh was offering both petitions and entreaties to Him being able to save Him from death, with strong crying and tears, and being heard from His godly fear;

¹ And God remembered Noah and every living thing, and all the cattle which were with him in the ark. And God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided.

²⁰ And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God is with me and keeps me in this way which I am going, and gives to me bread to eat and clothing to wear,

³² And Leah conceived and bore a son. And she called his name Reuben; for she said, Surely Jehovah has looked on my affliction, for now my husband will love me.

²² And God remembered Rachel; and God listened to her and opened her womb.

³¹ And the people believed. And they heard that Jehovah had visited the sons of Israel, and that He had seen their affliction. And they bowed and worshiped.

⁵ All the days of the vow of his separation, a razor shall not pass over his head; he shall be holy until all the days are fulfilled which he has separated to Jehovah. He shall allow the locks of the hair of his head to grow long.

⁸ All the days of his separation he shall be holy to Jehovah.

¹¹ And the priest shall prepare one for a sin offering, and one for a burnt offering, and shall atone for him, because he sinned by reason of the dead body. And he shall dedicate his head on that day.

² And Israel vowed a vow to Jehovah, and said, If you will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.

³ And when a woman vows a vow to Jehovah, and has bound a bond in the house of her father in her youth, ⁴ and her father has heard her vow, and her bond with which she has bound her soul, and her father has remained silent as to her, then all her vows shall stand; and every bond with which she has bound her soul shall stand. ⁵ But if her father has prohibited her in the day he heard, none of her vows and her bond with which she has bound her soul shall stand. And Jehovah will forgive her because her father prohibited her. ⁶ And if she belongs to a husband, and her vows are on her, or a rash utterance on her lips with which she has bound her soul, ⁷ and her husband has heard, and in the day he heard he has remained silent as to her, then her vows shall stand, and her bond with which she has bound her soul shall stand. ⁸ And if in the day her husband hears, he prohibits her, then he has broken her vow which is on her, and the rash utterance of her lips with which she has bound her soul. And Jehovah will forgive her.

³⁰ And Jephthah vowed a vow to Jehovah, and said, If You will indeed give the sons of Ammon into my hand,

⁵ For, behold, you are pregnant and bearing a son. And a razor shall not go on his head, for the boy shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb. And he shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.

¹² It may be Jehovah will look on my affliction, and Jehovah will return good to me for his cursing this day.

¹⁸ Look on my affliction and my pain, and lift up all my sins.

¹ A Song of Ascents. O Jehovah, remember David with all his afflictions; ² how he swore to Jehovah; he vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob,

⁴ When you vow a vow to God, do not wait to fulfill it. For He has no pleasure in fools. Fulfill that which you have vowed.

⁸ I say to you, even if rising up he will not give to him because he is a friend, yet because of his shameless insisting, rising up he will give him as many as he needs. ⁹ And I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. ¹⁰ For everyone asking receives, and the one seeking finds, and to the one knocking, it will be opened.

¹ And He also spoke a parable to them to teach it is always right to pray, and not to faint,

¹⁸ through all prayer and petition, praying at every time in the Spirit, and watching to this same thing with all perseverance and petition concerning all the saints.

² Steadfastly continue in prayer, watching in it with thanksgiving,

¹⁷ Pray without ceasing.

¹⁶ Confess faults to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous one has great strength, having been made effective.

⁴² And today I came to the well. And I said, Jehovah, God of my master Abraham, I pray, if You will, prosper the way in which I am about to go. ⁴³ Behold! I stand at the well of water, and when the virgin comes out to draw water, and I say to her, Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher, ⁴⁴ and she says to me, Both you drink and also I will draw for your camels, may she be the woman whom Jehovah has designed for my master's son. ⁴⁵ Before I had finished speaking within my heart, even behold, Rebekah was coming out, her pitcher on her shoulder. And she went down to the well and drew. And I said to her, Please let me drink.

⁴ Then the king said to me, For what do you ask? So I prayed to the God of Heaven,

¹ A Psalm of David. To You, O Jehovah, I lift up my soul.

¹⁵ Jehovah of hosts shall defend them. And they shall devour and trample on the slingstones. And they shall drink and be boisterous, as with wine. And they shall be full like a bowl, like the corners of the altar.

¹³ But ridiculing, others said, They are full of sweet wine.

²⁶ And likewise the Spirit also joins in to help our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray as we ought, but the Spirit Himself pleads our case for us with groanings that cannot be uttered.

⁷ Love quietly covers all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

¹² And the sons of Israel heard, and all the company of the sons of Israel assembled at Shiloh to go up against them to war. ¹³ And the sons of Israel sent Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest to the sons of Reuben, and to the sons of Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasseh, to the land of Gilead, ¹⁴ and ten rulers with him, one ruler each for the house of a father, for all the tribes of Israel, and each of them a head of the house of their fathers, for the thousands of Israel. ¹⁵ And they came to the sons of Reuben, and to the sons of Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasseh, to the land of Gilead, and spoke with them, saying, ¹⁶ So says all the company of Jehovah, What is this treachery with which the God of Israel was betrayed, to turn back today from after Jehovah, in that you built for yourself an altar so that you might rebel today against Jehovah? ¹⁷ Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we have not been cleansed until this day? Yea, a plague came on the company of Jehovah; ¹⁸ that you turn away today from following after Jehovah? And it shall be that today you rebel against Jehovah, and tomorrow He shall be angry with all the company of Israel. ¹⁹ And surely, if the land of your possession is unclean, you may cross over to the land of the possession of Jehovah, there where the tabernacle of Jehovah dwells, and have possession among us. But do not rebel against Jehovah, and do not rebel against us, by building for yourselves an altar besides the altar of Jehovah our God. ²⁰ Did not Achan the son of Zerah commit a sin in the cursed thing, and was there not wrath on all the company of Israel? And he was not the only one to die in his iniquity.

² Until when will you speak these things, since the words of your mouth are like a mighty wind?

¹⁴ if iniquity is in your hand, put it far away and do not let wickedness dwell in your tents;

²³ If you return to the Almighty, you shall be built up; you shall put injustice far from your tents.

³ Until when will you break in against a man? You will shatter him, all of you, like a bowing wall, a tottering fence.

²⁴ Turn away from you the crooked mouth, and put perverse lips far from you.

⁹ How long will you lie down, O lazy man? When will you arise out of your sleep?

¹ Do not judge, that you may not be judged; ² for with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured again to you. ³ But why do you look on the twig that is in the eye of your brother, but do not see the log in your eye?

²⁵ Therefore, putting off the false," speak truth each with his neighbor," because we are members of one another. Zech. 8:16

³¹ Let all bitterness, and anger, and wrath, and tumult, and evil speaking be put away from you, along with all evil things.

¹⁶ And now my soul is poured out within me; days of affliction have seized me.

⁴ When I remember these things and I pour out my soul on me (for I passed over with the throng; I led them to the house of God with the voice of rejoicing and praise, a host keeping the feast).

⁸ Trust in Him at every time, you people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah.

² I pour out my musing before Him; I declare my distress before Him. ³ When my spirit faints within me, then You know my path; they have hidden a snare for me in the path in which I walk.

⁶ I spread out my hands to You; my soul thirsts to You like a thirsty land. Selah.

¹ A soft answer turns away wrath, but a hurtful word stirs up anger.

¹⁵ In being slow to anger, a ruler is persuaded; and a soft tongue shatters the bone.

¹⁹ Rise up, cry out in the night at the head of the watches; pour out your heart like waters before the face of the Lord. Lift up your hands to Him for the life of your children faint with hunger at the head of every open place.

¹³ Certain men, sons of Belial, have gone out from among you and have drawn away those who live in their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which you have not known;

¹² And the sons of Eli were sons of worthlessness; they did not know Jehovah.

²⁷ But the sons of worthlessness said, How can this one deliver us? And they despised him and did not bring a gift to him. But he was as one keeping silent.

²⁵ I beg you, do not let my lord set his heart toward this man of worthlessness, on Nabal. For as his name is, so is he. Nabal is his name, and foolishness is with him. And I, your handmaid, did not see the young men of my lord whom you sent.

² Oh that my vexation were carefully weighed, and my ruin lifted in the balances together! ³ For now it would be heavier than the sand of the seas; on account of this my words have been rash.

¹ My soul loathes my life; I will leave my complaint on myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul. ² I will say to God, Do not condemn me; make me know why You contend with me.

³⁴ Offspring of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ³⁵ The good man out of the good treasure of the heart puts forth good things. And the evil man out of the evil treasure puts forth evil things.

⁶ And the priest said to them, Go in peace. Your way in which you go is before Jehovah.

³⁵ And David received from her hand what she had brought to him. And he said to her, Go in peace to your house. See, I have heard your voice, and have accepted your face.

⁷ And now return, and go in peace, that you not do evil in the eyes of the rulers of the Philistines.

¹⁹ And he said to him, Go in peace. And he went away a little way from him.

¹⁰ And Jabez called to the God of Israel, saying, If indeed You would bless me, and make my border larger, and Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil so that it may not grieve me! And God gave him what he asked.

³ He will remember all your offerings, and make fat your burnt sacrifices. Selah. ⁴ He will give you according to your heart, and fulfill all your plans. ⁵ We will rejoice in your salvation, and in the name of our God set up banners; may Jehovah fulfill all your prayers.

³⁴ And He said to her, Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be whole from your plague.

⁵⁰ But He said to the woman, Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.

⁴⁸ And He said to her, Daughter, be comforted. Your faith has healed you. Go in peace.

⁵ And it is mine to have oxen, and asses, flocks, and slaves and slave-girls are mine. And I have sent to tell my lord, to find favor in your eyes.

⁸ And he said, Whose is all this camp which I met? And he said, To find favor in the eyes of my lord.

¹⁵ And Esau said, Please let me place with you some of the people who are with me. And he said, Why, then? Let me find favor in the eyes of my lord.

¹³ And she said, Let me find grace in your eyes, my lord, because you have comforted me, and because you have spoken to the heart of your handmaid. And I surely am not as one of your handmaids.

⁷ Go, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart, for God now is pleased with your works.

²⁴ Until now you asked nothing in My name; ask, and you will receive, so that your joy may be full.

¹³ And may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, for you to abound in hope, in power of the Holy Spirit.

⁶ Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and by petition with thanksgivings, let your requests be made known to God; ⁷ and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

¹ And the man knew his wife Eve. And she conceived and bore Cain, and said, I have gotten a man with the help of Jehovah.

¹ And Jehovah visited Sarah as He had said. And the Lord did to Sarah as He had spoken.

¹ And there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim from the hills of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite.

¹¹ And she vowed a vow, and said, O Jehovah of hosts, if You will certainly look upon the affliction of Your handmaid, and shall remember me, and not forget Your handmaid, and shall give to Your maidservant a man-child, then I will give him to Jehovah all the days of his life; and a razor shall not go up on his head.

¹¹ And Elkanah went to Ramah, to his house. And the child served Jehovah before Eli the priest.

²⁶ And they rose up early, and at the dawning of the day it happened: Samuel called to Saul on the roof, saying, Rise up, and I will send you away. And Saul rose up, and they went out, both of them, he and Samuel, to the outside.

³ You will hear my voice in the morning, O Jehovah, I will set myself for You in the morning, and I will look up.

⁷ Do not remember the sins of my youth, or my transgressions. According to Your mercy, remember me, for Your goodness' sake, O Jehovah.

¹⁷ Evening and morning, and at noon, I will complain and cry aloud; and He shall hear my voice.

¹⁴⁷ I go before the dawn of day and cry; I hope in Your word.

²³ who remembered us in our low estate; for His mercy endures forever;

³⁵ And rising up quite early in the night, He went out and went away into a deserted place. And He was praying there.

⁴² And he said to Jesus, Lord, remember me when You come in Your kingdom.

²⁵ And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son. And she called his name, Seth, for God has appointed to me another seed in place of Abel because Cain killed him.

²⁹ And he called his name Noah, saying, This one shall comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands because of the ground which the Lord has cursed.

¹¹ And the Angel of Jehovah said to her, Behold! You are with child and shall bear a son; and you shall call his name Ishmael, because Jehovah has attended to your affliction.

³² And Leah conceived and bore a son. And she called his name Reuben; for she said, Surely Jehovah has looked on my affliction, for now my husband will love me. ³³ And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, Surely Jehovah has heard that I am hated and has given this one to me also. And she called his name Simeon. ³⁴ And she conceived again and bore a son. And she said, Now, this time my husband will be joined to me, because I have borne to him three sons. So his name was called Levi. ³⁵ And she conceived again and bore a son. And she said, This time I praise Jehovah. So she called his name Judah. And she ceased from bearing.

⁶ And Rachel said, God has judged and has also heard my voice, and has given me a son. So she called his name Dan. ⁷ And Bilhah, Rachel's slave-girl, conceived again, and bore a second son to Jacob. ⁸ And Rachel said, With struggles of God I have struggled with my sister; yea, I have been able. And she called his name Naphtali. ⁹ And Leah saw that she had ceased from bearing. And she took Zilpah, her slave-girl, and gave her to Jacob for a wife. ¹⁰ And Leah's slave-girl Zilpah bore a son to Jacob. ¹¹ And Leah said, With fortune. And she called his name Gad. ¹² And Zilpah, Leah's slave-girl, bore a second son to Jacob. ¹³ And Leah said, In my happiness; for the daughters shall call me happy. And she called his name Asher. ¹⁴ And in the days of wheat harvest Reuben went out and found love-apples in the field. And he brought them to his mother Leah. And Rachel said to Leah, Please give to me from the love-apples of your son. ¹⁵ And she said to her, is your taking my husband a little thing? Will you also take my son's love-apples? And Rachel said, So he shall be with you tonight, for your son's love apples. ¹⁶ And Jacob came in from the field at evening. And Leah went out to meet him. And she said, You must come in to me, for surely I have hired you with my son's love-apples. And he lay with her during that night. ¹⁷ And God listened to Leah, and she conceived and bore a fifth son to Jacob. ¹⁸ And Leah said, God has given my hire; I gave my slave-girl to my husband. And she called his name Issachar. ¹⁹ And Leah conceived again and bore a sixth son to Jacob. ²⁰ And Leah said, God has given me a good present. This time my husband will live with me, because I have borne six sons to him. And she called his name Zebulun. ²¹ And afterwards she bore a daughter and called her name Dinah.

⁵¹ And Joseph called the name of the first born Manasseh; for he said, God has made me forget all my toil, and all the house of my father. ⁵² And the name of the second he called Ephraim; for he said, God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.

¹⁰ And the child grew, and she brought him to the daughter of Pharaoh. And he became a son to her, and she called his name Moses, and said, Because I drew him out of the water.

²² And she bore a son, and he called his name Gershom; for he said, I have become an alien in a foreign land.

²¹ And she will bear a son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins.

¹⁹ For I have known him, so that whatever he may command his sons and his house after him, even they may keep the way of Jehovah, to do righteousness and justice; to the intent that Jehovah may bring on Abraham that which He has spoken of him.

¹¹ And it shall be the place which Jehovah your God shall choose to cause His name to dwell there, there you shall bring all that I am commanding you, your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice freewill offerings which you vow to Jehovah.

¹⁵ And if it seems evil in your eyes to serve Jehovah, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve, whether the gods whom your fathers served Beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my house, we will serve Jehovah.

³ And that man went up from his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice before Jehovah of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests to Jehovah there.

² I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way; O when will You come to me? I will walk in the integrity of my heart in the midst of my house.

⁶ his master shall bring him to God, and one shall bring him to the door, or to the doorpost; and his master shall pierce his ear with an awl, and he shall serve him forever.

²³ And the land shall not be sold in perpetuity; for the land is Mine; for you are aliens and tenants with Me.

⁷ You shall say to them, Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, as it crossed over into the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. And these stones are for a memorial to the sons of Israel all the days.

²⁸ And I also have loaned him to Jehovah; all the days which he shall be, he is loaned to Jehovah. And he worshiped there before Jehovah.

¹⁸ And Samuel was serving before Jehovah, a boy girded with an ephod of linen.

¹ And the boy Samuel was serving Jehovah before Eli. And the word of Jehovah was rare in those days. There was no breaking-through vision.

⁶ Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of Jehovah for as long as my days.

⁴ Jehovah has sworn and will not repent: You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

⁷ There is no end to the increase of His government and of peace on the throne of David, and on His kingdom, to order it, and to sustain it with justice and with righteousness, from now and forever. The zeal of Jehovah of Hosts will do this.

²² And when the days of her cleansing according to the Law of Moses were fulfilled, they took Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord,

⁴¹ And His parents went into Jerusalem year by year at the Feast of the Passover. ⁴² And when He was twelve years old, they, going up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the Feast,

⁷ And she said, Who would have said to Abraham, Will Sarah suckle sons? For I have borne a son to his old age. ⁸ And the child grew and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the day Isaac was weaned.

⁷ and her husband has heard, and in the day he heard he has remained silent as to her, then her vows shall stand, and her bond with which she has bound her soul shall stand. ⁸ And if in the day her husband hears, he prohibits her, then he has broken her vow which is on her, and the rash utterance of her lips with which she has bound her soul. And Jehovah will forgive her. ⁹ And as to the vow of a widow, or her that is divorced, all that she has bound on her soul shall be established on her. ¹⁰ And if she has vowed in the house of her husband, or bound a bond on her soul with an oath, ¹¹ and her husband has heard, and has remained silent as to her, and he has not prohibited her, then all her vows shall be established, and every bond with which she has bound her soul shall stand.

¹⁷ And Eli answered and said, Go in peace, and may the God of Israel give you your petition which you have asked of Him.

²⁵ And now, O Jehovah God, establish the word which You have spoken concerning Your servant, and concerning his house, forever. And do as You have spoken.

⁹ For You are He, my Taker from the womb; causing me to trust on My mother's breasts.

²⁶ He confirms the word of His servant, and completes the counsel of His messengers. He says to Jerusalem, You will be filled; and to the cities of Judah, You shall be built; and, I will raise up its ruins.

¹⁹ But woe to the woman having a child in womb, and to those suckling in those days!

²⁷ And as He spoke these things, it happened that a certain woman lifted up her voice out of the crowd and said to Him, Blessed is the womb having borne You and the breasts which You sucked.

⁹ then he shall bring near for the son of the herd a food offering of flour, three tenth parts, mixed with oil, a half of a hin; ¹⁰ and you shall bring wine near for a drink offering, a half of a hin, as a fire offering of soothing fragrance to Jehovah.

⁵ But you shall seek to the place which Jehovah your God shall choose out of all your tribes; for you shall seek His dwelling, to put His name there. And you shall go there. ⁶ And you shall bring your burnt offerings there, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and your vows, and your freewill offering, and the firstlings of your herd and of your flock.

³ And the people came into the camp, and the elders of Israel said, Why has Jehovah stricken us today before the Philistines? Let us take the ark of the covenant of Jehovah to us, and let it come into our midst; and it will save us from the hand of our enemies. ⁴ And the people sent to Shiloh, and they took from there the ark of the covenant of Jehovah of hosts, who dwells between the cherubs. And the two sons of Eli were there with the ark of the covenant of God, Hophni and Phinehas.

¹⁵ And they brought infants to Him also, that He might touch them. But seeing, the disciples rebuked them. ¹⁶ But Jesus called them near, saying, Allow the children to come to Me, and do not prevent them. For of such is the kingdom of God.

¹⁵ By this you shall be tested. As Pharaoh lives you shall not leave here except your younger brother come in here.

⁵⁵ And when Saul saw David going out to meet the Philistine, he said to Abner, the army commander, Whose son is this youth, Abner? And Abner said, As your soul lives, O king, I do not know.

³ And David again swore and said, Your father has certainly known that I have found favor in your eyes; and he said, Do not let Jonathan know this, that he not be grieved. And yet, as Jehovah lives, and your soul lives, there is only a step between me and death.

¹¹ And Uriah said to David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah dwell in booths. And my lord Joab, and my lord's servants are camping on the face of the field. And I, shall I go into my house to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing.

¹⁹ And the king said, Is the hand of Joab with you in all this? And the woman answered and said, As your soul lives, my lord, O king, none shall turn to the right or to the left from all that my lord the king has spoken. For your servant Joab commanded me, and he put all these words in your servant's mouth.

² And Elijah said to Elisha, Please stay here, for Jehovah has sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said, As Jehovah lives, and your soul lives, I will not leave you. And they went down to Bethel.

⁴ And Elijah said to him, Elisha, please stay here, for Jehovah has sent me to Jericho. And he said, As Jehovah lives, and your soul lives, I will not leave you. And they came into Jericho.

⁶ And Elijah said to him, Please stay here, for Jehovah has sent me to the Jordan. And he said, As Jehovah lives, and your soul lives, I will not leave you. And they went on, both of them.

³⁰ And the mother of the boy said, As Jehovah lives, and your soul lives, I will not leave you. And he rose up and went after her.

¹¹ And she vowed a vow, and said, O Jehovah of hosts, if You will certainly look upon the affliction of Your handmaid, and shall remember me, and not forget Your handmaid, and shall give to Your maidservant a man-child, then I will give him to Jehovah all the days of his life; and a razor shall not go up on his head. ¹² And it happened, when she prayed long before Jehovah, Eli was watching her mouth. ¹³ And Hannah was speaking in her heart; only, her lips moved; but her voice could not be heard. So Eli thought that she was drunk.

⁹ Jehovah has heard my plea; Jehovah will receive my prayer.

¹⁹ Surely, God has heard; He has attended to the voice of my prayer. ²⁰ Blessed be God, who has not turned away my prayer and His mercy from me!

¹ I love Jehovah because He hears my voice, my prayers. ² Because He has bowed His ear to me, I will also call in my days. ³ The cords of death hemmed me in; and the pains of Sheol found me; I find distress and sorrow; ⁴ then I call on the name of Jehovah: O Jehovah, I beseech You, deliver my soul! ⁵ Jehovah is gracious and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.

⁵ I called Jehovah from the distress; He answered me in the large place of Jehovah.

⁷ Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

¹⁵ And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.

²⁶ And the man bowed and worshiped Jehovah.

⁴⁸ And I bowed and worshiped Jehovah, and I blessed Jehovah, God of my master Abraham, who had guided me in the true way, to take for his son the daughter of the brother of my master.

⁵² And it happened when the slave of Abraham heard their words, he bowed himself to the earth to Jehovah.

²² And Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, Until the child is weaned, then I will bring him, that he may appear before Jehovah and remain there forever.

¹⁵ and that from a babe you know the Holy Scriptures, those being able to make you wise to salvation through belief in Christ Jesus.
