They stir up wars continually. ³ They sharpen their tongue as sharp as a snake's; the venom of a viper is under their lips. Selah ⁴ Protect me, O Yahweh, from the hands of the wicked. Preserve me from violent men, who have planned to _⌊make me stumble_⌋.* ⁵ The proud have hidden a trap for me, and cords. They have spread out a net along the _⌊side_⌋* of the path. They have set snares for me. Selah ⁶ I say to Yahweh, "You are my God." Listen, O Yahweh, to the voice of my supplications. ⁷ O Yahweh, my Lord, the strength of my salvation, you have covered my head in the day of battle. ⁸ Do not grant, O Yahweh, the desires of the wicked. Do not allow them to attain their* plan, lest they be exalted. Selah ⁹ With respect to the head of those who surround me, may the harm of their lips cover them. ¹⁰ Let burning coals fall on them; let them be dropped into the fire, into bottomless pits from which they cannot rise. ¹¹ Do not let a _⌊slanderer_⌋* be established in the land; as for the man of violence, let evil hunt him quickly. ¹² I know* that Yahweh will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and justice for the needy. ¹³ Surely the righteous will give thanks to your name; the upright will dwell in your presence.

¹³ Rise up, O Yahweh, confront _⌊him_⌋.* Make him bow down. Rescue with your sword my life from the wicked,

⁴⁸ who delivered me from my enemies. Indeed, you exalted me higher than those who rose against me. You delivered me from the man of violence.

¹ Judge me, O God, and plead my case against* an unfaithful* nation. From a man of deceit and wickedness rescue me,

Deliver me from my enemies, O my God. Protect* me from those who rise up against me. ² Deliver me from workers of iniquity, and from men of bloodshed save me. ³ For look, they lie in wait for my life.* The mighty attack* against me, not because of my transgression or my sin, O Yahweh.

⁴ My God, rescue me from the hand of the wicked, from the _⌊grasp_⌋* of the evildoer and the oppressor,

⁴ Protect me, O Yahweh, from the hands of the wicked. Preserve me from violent men, who have planned to _⌊make me stumble_⌋.*

¹¹ Do not let a _⌊slanderer_⌋* be established in the land; as for the man of violence, let evil hunt him quickly.

² O Yahweh, how long shall I cry for help and you will not listen? How long will I cry out to you, "Violence!" and you will not save? ³ Why do you cause me to see evil while you look at trouble? Destruction and violence happen before me; contention and strife arise.

¹⁹ Then the Ziphites went up to Saul at Gibeah, saying, "Is not David hiding among us in the strongholds at Horesh on the hill of Hakilah, which is south of Jeshimon? ²⁰ So then, O king, _⌊whenever you want_⌋* to come down, come down, and it will be for us to deliver him into the hand of the king." ²¹ And Saul said to them, "May you be blessed by Yahweh, for you have shown me compassion! ²² Go, please, make certain again! Find out and see _⌊exactly where he is_⌋* and who has seen him there! For they have said to me, 'He is very cunning.' ²³ Look, find out all of the hiding places where he hides. Now David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon in the Arabah, to the south of Jeshimon.

¹¹ Now, my father, see, yes, see, the hem of your robe in my hand! For _⌊when I cut_⌋* the hem of your robe I did not kill you. Know and _⌊realize_⌋* that there is no evil or rebellion in my hand. I did not sin against you, but you are hunting down my life to take it. ¹² May Yahweh judge between me and you, and may Yahweh avenge me on you, but my hand will not be against you!

¹ The Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah, saying, "Is not David hiding on the hill of Hakilah opposite Jeshimon?" ² Then Saul got up and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, and three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph. ³ Now Saul was on the hill of Hakilah, which is opposite Jeshimon by the road, but David was staying in the wilderness. When he realized that Saul had come to the wilderness after him, ⁴ David sent spies, and he learned that Saul had come _⌊for certain_⌋.* ⁵ Then David got up and came to the place where Saul had encamped, and David saw the place where Saul was lying down, _⌊as well as_⌋* Abner the son of Ner, the commander of his army. (Now Saul was lying in the encampment, and the army was encamping around him.) ⁶ David answered and said to Ahimelech the Hittite and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah the brother of Joab, saying, "Who will go down with me to Saul, in the camp?" And Abishai said, "I will go down with you." ⁷ So David and Abishai came to the army by night, and _⌊there was_⌋* Saul lying asleep in the encampment with* his spear thrust into the ground near his head, and Abner and the army were lying all around him. ⁸ Then Abishai said to David, "God has handed over your enemy into your hand today! So then, _⌊please let me pin him to the ground with the spear_⌋* _⌊one time_⌋,* and _⌊I will not strike him twice_⌋."* ⁹ But David said to Abishai, "Do not destroy* him! For who has stretched out his hand against Yahweh's anointed one and remained blameless?" ¹⁰ And David said, "_⌊As Yahweh lives_⌋,* _⌊certainly_⌋* Yahweh will strike him, or his day will come and he will die, or he will go down in the battle and _⌊perish_⌋.* ¹¹ _⌊Yahweh forbid me_⌋* from stretching out my hand against Yahweh's anointed one! So then, please take the spear that is near his head and the jar of water, and let us go." ¹² So David took the spear and the jar of water from near Saul's head, and they went away. _⌊No one saw, no one knew, and no one awakened_⌋,* for all of them were sleeping because a deep sleep of Yahweh had fallen upon them. ¹³ Then David went to the other side and stood on the top of the hill at a distance; the distance was great between them. ¹⁴ David called out to the army and to Abner the son of Ner, "Will you not answer, Abner?" And Abner answered and said, "Who are you that you call to the king?" ¹⁵ So David said to Abner, "Are you not a man? And who is like you in Israel? Why did you not keep watch over your lord the king? For one of the people came to destroy* your lord the king. ¹⁶ This thing that you have done is not good. _⌊As Yahweh lives_⌋,* _⌊surely you people deserve to die_⌋* since you have not kept watch over your lord, over Yahweh's anointed one! So then, see where the king's spear is and the jar of water that was near his head!" ¹⁷ Then Saul recognized David's voice and said, "Is this your voice, my son David?" And David said, "It is my voice, my lord the king." ¹⁸ Then he said, "Why is my lord pursuing after his servant? For what have I done? And what evil is in my hand? ¹⁹ And so then, please let my lord the king listen to the words of his servant: If Yahweh has incited you against me, may he delight in an offering; but if _⌊it is mortals_⌋,* may they be accursed _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, for they have driven me away today from sharing in the inheritance of Yahweh, saying, 'Go, serve other gods!' ²⁰ And so then, do not let my blood fall to the ground _⌊away from_⌋* the presence of Yahweh, for the king of Israel has gone out to seek a single flea, as one hunts a partridge in the mountains." ²¹ Then Saul said, "I have sinned! Come back, David my son, for I will not harm you again, because my life was precious in your eyes this day. Look, I have acted like a fool and _⌊have made a terrible mistake_⌋."* ²² David answered and said, "Here is the king's spear; let one of the young men* come over and take it. ²³ Yahweh repays to each one his righteousness and his faithfulness, for Yahweh gave you into my hand today, but I was not willing to stretch out my hand against Yahweh's anointed. ²⁴ Look, as your life was precious in my eyes this day, may my life be great in the eyes of Yahweh, and may he rescue me from all trouble." ²⁵ Then Saul said to David, "Blessed are you, my son David; _⌊you will not only do many things, but also will always succeed_⌋!"* Then David went on his way and Saul returned to his place.

¹ Why are nations in tumult, and countries plotting* in vain?* ² The kings of the earth establish themselves, and the rulers conspire* together against Yahweh and his anointed:

¹¹ Though they have _⌊plotted_⌋* evil against you, though they have planned a scheme, they will not prevail.

⁴ He plans sin on his bed. He puts himself on a way that is not good. He does not reject evil.

¹² Those who seek my life lay snares as well, and those intent on my harm speak threats. They also plot deceit all day.

⁶ They attack,* they hide, they watch my _⌊steps_⌋,* as they lie in wait for my life.

³ How long will you attack a man? All of you will be shattered* like a leaning wall, a tottering fence.

⁵ They encourage themselves in the evil matter. They talk of secretly laying snares. They say, "Who will see them?" ⁶ _⌊They carefully plot_⌋* injustices saying, "We have perfected _⌊the perfect plot_⌋!"* Both the _⌊inner thought_⌋* and heart of a man are deep.

⁷ I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.

²⁰ Deceit is in the heart* of _⌊those who plan_⌋* evil, but to _⌊those who plan_⌋* peace, there is joy.

⁶ Because they are kindled* like an oven, their heart burns within them; all night their anger _⌊smolders_⌋,* in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire.

¹ Woe to those who plan wickedness and evil deeds upon their beds! In the light of the morning they did it, because they have power in their hands. ² They covet fields and seize them, and houses, and they take them away. They oppress a man and his house; a man and his inheritance. ³ Therefore, thus says Yahweh: Look! I am planning disaster against this family from which you will not be able to remove your necks. You will not walk proudly, for it is a time of disaster.

¹¹ From you goes out one who plots evil against Yahweh, one who plans wickedness.

¹³ Then* Yahweh God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" And the woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."

² Your tongue plans destruction, like a sharp razor, working deceit. ³ You love evil more than good, a lie more than speaking _⌊what is right_⌋.* Selah

⁴ My soul is among lions. I lie down among those who devour— the children* of humankind whose teeth are spears and arrows and whose tongues are sharp swords.

⁴ Their venom is like snake venom; They are like a deaf viper that closes its ear

⁷ Look, they pour out talk with their mouth. Swords are on their lips, for they say, "Who hears?"

³ who sharpen their tongue like a sword. They bend their bow to shoot their arrows—bitter words, ⁴ to shoot from* their* hiding places at the blameless. Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear.

¹⁸ There is one who speaks rashly, like the thrust of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

³² _⌊In the end_⌋,* it will bite like a serpent, and it will sting like an adder.

³ For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity. Your lips have spoken lies, your tongue speaks wickedness. ⁴ There is nobody _⌊who pleads with_⌋* justice, and there is nobody who judges with honesty. They rely on nothing and speak vanity. They conceive trouble and beget iniquity; ⁵ they hatch viper eggs, and they weave a spider web. One who eats their eggs dies, and that which is pressed is hatched as a serpent.

¹³ transgressing and denying Yahweh, and turning _⌊away from following_⌋* our God; speaking oppression and falsehood, conceiving and uttering words of deception from the heart.

³ And they bend their tongue like their bow, for falsehood and not truth is superior in the land, for they go forth* from evil to evil, and they do not know me," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

⁵ And everyone deceives his neighbor, and they do not speak the truth, they have taught their tongues* to speak lies,* they are tired from going astray.

³⁴ Offspring of vipers! How are you able to say good things when you* are evil? For from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

¹³ Their throat is an opened grave; they deceive with their tongues; the venom of asps is under their lips,* ¹⁴ whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.*

³ But I am afraid lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds may be led astray from the sincerity and the purity of devotion to Christ.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire! The world of unrighteousness,* the tongue, is set among our members, defiling the whole body and setting on fire _⌊the course of human existence_⌋*, being set on fire by hell. ⁷ For every species of animals and birds, of reptiles and sea creatures, is being tamed and has been tamed by the human species, ⁸ but no human being is able to tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

⁵ I have held my steps in your path My feet will not slip.

⁸ Keep me as _⌊the apple of your eye_⌋.* Hide me in the shadow of your wings ⁹ from the _⌊presence_⌋* of the wicked who destroy me, those enemies against my life, they that surround me.

¹¹ Do not let a foot of pride come against me, nor let a wicked hand make me to wander homeless.

³² The wicked watches for the righteous and seeks to kill him. ³³ Yahweh will not abandon him into his hand, and he will not let him be condemned when he is judged. ³⁴ Wait for Yahweh and keep his way, and he will exalt you to possess the land. When the wicked are cut off, you will see it. ³⁵ I have seen the wicked acting violently and spreading himself out like a luxuriant native tree. ³⁶ Then he passed on* and behold, he was not. And I sought him, but he could not be found. ³⁷ Observe the blameless and look at the upright, for there is a future for a man of peace. ³⁸ But transgressors shall be destroyed altogether. The future of the wicked shall be cut off. ³⁹ And* the salvation of the righteous is from Yahweh, their refuge in the time of trouble. ⁴⁰ And Yahweh helps them and he rescues them. He rescues them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.

Give ear, O God, to my prayer, and do not hide yourself from my plea. ² Attend to me and answer me. I am restless in my lamenting and I groan, ³ because of the voice of an enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked, because they bring down evil on me, and in anger they hold a grudge against me.

⁵ Being partial to faces of evil is not good, nor to subvert the righteous at the judgment.

⁹ A trap seizes him by the heel; a snare takes hold of him.

⁴ _⌊With bald-faced pride_⌋* the wicked will not seek God. There is no God in any of his thoughts. ⁵ His ways* endure at all times.* Your judgments are aloof from him. As for all his enemies, he scoffs at them. ⁶ He says in his heart, "I shall not be moved _⌊throughout all generations_⌋,* during which I will have no trouble." ⁷ His mouth is filled with cursing, with deceits and oppression; under his tongue are trouble and evil. ⁸ He sits in ambush in villages; in the hiding places he kills the innocent. His eyes _⌊lurk_⌋* for the helpless. ⁹ He lies in ambush _⌊secretly,_⌋* like a lion in a thicket. He lies in ambush to seize the poor; he seizes the poor by catching him in his net. ¹⁰ He is crushed;* he is bowed down;* so* the helpless host* falls by his _⌊might_⌋.* ¹¹ He says in his heart, "God has forgotten. He has hidden his face. He never sees." ¹² Rise up, O Yahweh; O God, lift up your hand. Do not forget the afflicted.

⁸ Keep me as _⌊the apple of your eye_⌋.* Hide me in the shadow of your wings ⁹ from the _⌊presence_⌋* of the wicked who destroy me, those enemies against my life, they that surround me. ¹⁰ They have shut off their calloused* heart; with their mouth they speak arrogantly. ¹¹ Now they surround us at our every step. They _⌊intend_⌋* _⌊to pin_⌋* me to the ground. ¹² _⌊He is like_⌋* a lion; he longs to tear apart, and like a strong lion crouching in hiding places. ¹³ Rise up, O Yahweh, confront _⌊him_⌋.* Make him bow down. Rescue with your sword my life from the wicked,

⁴ Bring me out of the net that they have secretly set for me, for you are my refuge.

⁷ For without cause they secretly hide the pit with their net for me; without cause they dug it for my life.

⁶ They have set a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down. They have dug a pit before me; they have fallen into the midst of it. Selah

⁶⁹ The arrogant smear me with lies;* I keep your precepts with my whole heart.

⁸⁵ The arrogant have dug pits* for me, which is not according to* your law.

¹¹⁰ The wicked have laid a snare for me, yet I do not wander from your precepts.

³ Be gracious to us, O Yahweh, be gracious to us, for long enough we have had our fill of contempt. ⁴ For long enough our soul has had its fill of the derision of the self-confident, the contempt of the arrogant.

⁹ Protect me from the _⌊grasp_⌋* of the trap they have laid for me, and from the snares of evildoers. ¹⁰ Let the wicked fall into their* nets, while I escape altogether.

³ When my spirit faints within me, you know my way. On the path where I walk, they have hidden a trap for me;

⁵ A strong man who flatters his neighbor is spreading a net for his feet.

¹⁸ Then they said, "Come and let us plan plans against Jeremiah, for instruction will not be lost from the priest, nor advice from the wise man, nor the word from the prophet. Come and _⌊let us bring charges against him_⌋,* and let us not listen attentively to any of his words."

²⁰ Should good be repaid in place of evil? Yet they have dug a pit for me. Remember my standing _⌊before you_⌋* to speak good for them, to avert your wrath from them.

²² Let a cry for help be heard from their houses when you suddenly bring upon them the raiding band, for they have dug a pit to catch me, and they have fixed secretly a trap for my feet.

⁵³ And when* he departed from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be terribly hostile, and to question him closely about many things, ⁵⁴ plotting to catch him with reference to something _⌊he might say_⌋.*

²⁰ And they watched him* closely and* sent spies who pretended they were upright, in order that they could catch him in a statement, so that they could hand him over to the authority and the jurisdiction of the governor. ²¹ And they asked him, saying, "Teacher, we know that you speak and teach rightly, and do not _⌊show partiality_⌋,* but teach the way of God in truth. ²² Is it permitted for us to pay taxes* to Caesar or not?" ²³ But seeing through their craftiness, he said to them,

² Oh my soul you have said* to Yahweh, "You are my Lord. I have no good apart from you."

⁵ Yahweh is the portion which is my share and my cup. You hold my lot. ⁶ The measuring lines have fallen for me in pleasant places. Yes, my inheritance is delightful for me.

⁷ Hear, O Yahweh, my voice when I call, and be gracious to me and answer me. ⁸ On your behalf my heart says, "Seek my face." Your face, O Yahweh, I do seek.

To you, O Yahweh, I call. O my rock, do not be deaf to me. Or else, if you are silent to me, then I will become like those descending to the pit. ² Hear the voice of my supplications when I cry to you for help, when I lift up my hands toward your holy inner sanctuary.

¹⁴ But as for me, I trust you, O Yahweh. I say, "You are my God."

Hear my voice, O God, in my lamenting. Preserve my life from the fear of the enemy.

² I will say to Yahweh, "You are my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust."

¹ I love him, because Yahweh has heard _⌊the voice of my supplications_⌋.*

⁵⁷ Yahweh is my portion; I intend to heed your words.

² "O Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.

⁵ I cry out to you, O Yahweh. I say, "You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living."

¹ A psalm of David.*
O Yahweh, hear my prayer; listen to my supplications. In your faithfulness answer me, and in your righteousness.

²⁴ "Yahweh is my portion," says my soul, "Thus I will hope on him."

⁹ And I will bring the remaining third into the fire, and I will refine them like one refines silver, and I will test them like one tests gold. They* will call my name, and I will answer them.* I will say, 'They* are my people,' and they* will say, 'Yahweh is my God.'"

²⁷ The God of _⌊ancient time_⌋* is a hiding place, and underneath are the arms of eternity,* and he drove out _⌊from before_⌋* you your enemy, and he said, 'Destroy them!' ²⁸ So Israel dwells alone and carefree, the spring of Jacob in a land of grain and wine; his heavens even drip dew. ²⁹ Blessed are you, O Israel. Who is like you, a people who is saved by Yahweh, the shield of your help, and who is the sword of your triumph, and your enemies, they shall fawn before you,* and you shall tread on their backs."

³⁶ Your servant has struck down both the lion and the bear, and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he defied the battle lines of the living God." ³⁷ And David said, "Yahweh, who rescued me from the hand of the lion and from the hand of the bear, will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine!" Then Saul said to David, "Go and may Yahweh be with you!"

⁴⁵ Then David said to the Philistine, "You are coming to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I am coming to you in the name of Yahweh of hosts, the God of the battle lines of Israel, whom you have defied! ⁴⁶ This day Yahweh will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down _⌊and cut off your head_⌋!* Then I will give the corpses of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of heaven and to the animals of the earth, so that all the earth may know that there is a God who is for Israel. ⁴⁷ And all of this assembly will know that Yahweh does not rescue with sword or with spear, for the battle belongs to Yahweh, and he will give you into our hands!" ⁴⁸ _⌊When_⌋* the Philistine got up and came and drew near to meet David, David _⌊ran quickly_⌋* to the battle line to meet the Philistine. ⁴⁹ Then David put his hand into the bag and took a stone from it and slung it. He struck the Philistine on his forehead, and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the ground. ⁵⁰ So David prevailed over the Philistine with the sling and with the stone, and he struck down the Philistine and killed him, but there was no sword in David's hand. ⁵¹ Then David ran and stood over the Philistine and took his sword and drew it from its sheath and killed him and cut off his head with it. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.

⁶ David placed garrisons in Aram of Damascus, so Aram became servants of David, bringing tribute. Yahweh protected David everywhere he went.

¹⁴ He put garrisons in Edom; all over Edom he put garrisons, and all of Edom became servants of David. Yahweh protected David wherever he went.

¹ For the music director. Of David, the servant of Yahweh, who spoke to Yahweh the words of this song _⌊when_⌋* Yahweh delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul.*
And he said: "I love you, O Yahweh, my strength." ² Yahweh is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I have taken refuge, my shield and the horn of my deliverance, my stronghold.

³⁵ You also gave me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand supported me, and your humility made me great.

¹ Of David.*
Yahweh is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? Yahweh is the refuge of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

⁷ Yahweh is my strength and my shield. My heart trusts him and I am helped. So my heart rejoices, and with my song I will give thanks to him. ⁸ Yahweh is their strength, and he is the refuge for the salvation of his anointed one.

¹⁷ O my strength, to you I will give praise, because God is my high stronghold, my God of loyal love.

² Only he is my rock and my salvation, my high stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.

⁷ On God rests my salvation and my glory; God* is my strong rock, my refuge.

²⁶ He will call out to me, 'You are my Father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.'

¹ Come, let us sing for joy to Yahweh; let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation.

¹⁰ who gives victory to kings, who rescues David his servant from the evil sword.

² Look! God is my salvation; I will trust, and I will not be afraid, for my strength and might is Yah, Yahweh; and he has become salvation for me."

²⁷ If I had not feared a provocation of the enemy, lest their foes might misunderstand, * lest they should say, * "Our hand is _⌊triumphant_⌋,* and Yahweh did not do all this." '

³¹ Now David was told, "Ahithophel was among the conspirators with Absalom." Then David said, "Please frustrate the counsel of Ahithophel, O Yahweh."

¹² He is frustrating the devices of the crafty, and their hands do not achieve success. ¹³ He is capturing the wise in their craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are rushed.

² In arrogance the wicked persecutes* the poor. Let them be caught in the schemes that they devised, ³ for the wicked boasts about the desire of his _⌊heart_⌋,* and the one greedy for gain curses and treats Yahweh with contempt.

¹² Do not give me over to the desire of my enemies, because false witnesses have arisen against me, and each breathing out violence.*

²⁰ Can there be allied with you a throne of destruction, one that forms trouble based on statute? ²¹ They band together against the life of the righteous, and declare the blameless guilty of blood.*

¹⁴ And Zeresh his wife and all of his friends said to him, "Let them make a gallows fifty cubits* high, and in the morning tell the king, "Let them hang Mordecai on it; then go with the king to the banquet happily." The advice pleased Haman, so he had the gallows made.

¹⁰ And they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai, and the anger of the king was abated.

¹⁶ His trouble comes back on his head, and his violence comes down on his skull.

⁸ * And they who would cause him* to stumble, their own tongue will be against them. All who gaze on them will shake.*

²³ And he will repay on them their iniquity, and by* their evil he will destroy them. Yahweh our God will destroy them.

⁶ Blessings belong to the head of the righteous, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.

¹¹ A fountain of life is a mouth of righteousness, and a mouth of wickedness conceals violence.

¹³ By the transgression of lips, evil is ensnared, but the righteous escapes from trouble.

⁷ The mouth of a fool is ruin to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.*

²⁵ And all the people answered and* said, "His blood be on us and on our children!"

²⁴ Yahweh rained down from heaven upon Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Yahweh.

²³ And Moses stretched out his staff to the heavens, and Yahweh gave thunder* and hail, and fire went to the earth, and Yahweh caused hail to rain on the land of Egypt. ²⁴ And there was hail, and fire was flashing back and forth in the midst of the very severe hail, the like of which was not in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation.

⁶ He will rain coals* on the wicked. Burning sulfur and scorching wind will be the portion of their cup.

¹³ And Yahweh thundered from the heavens, and the Most High uttered his voice with hail and coals of fire. ¹⁴ And he shot his arrows and scattered them,* and many lightning bolts and routed them.

⁹ You will make them like your fiery furnace at the time of your appearance. Yahweh will swallow them in his wrath and fire will consume them.

²³ But you, O God, you will bring them down to the pit of corruption. The men of bloodshed and deceit will not live half their days, but I will trust you.

⁴ The sharpened arrows of a warrior, with burning charcoals from broom trees.

¹⁰ He who misleads the upright onto the way of evil, into his pits he will fall. But as for the blameless, they will inherit good.

¹⁷ A person who is burdened with the blood of _⌊another_⌋,* until death he will flee; do not take hold of him.

²⁰ And he commanded _⌊the strongest men of the guards_⌋* who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and to throw them into the furnace of blazing fire. ²¹ Then these men were bound with their garments, their trousers and their turbans and their other clothing, and they were thrown into the midst of the furnace of blazing fire. ²² _⌊Therefore_⌋* _⌊because_⌋* the word of the king was severe and the furnace was exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed these men who lifted up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. ²³ But these men, the three of them, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, fell down into the midst of the furnace of blazing fire, and they were bound. ²⁴ Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and he rose up in haste and he asked, saying to his advisers, "Did we not throw three men, bound, into the midst of the fire? They answered, saying to the king, "Certainly, O king!" ²⁵ _⌊He answered_⌋,* saying, "Look, I see four men unbound walking in the midst of the fire and there is no damage to them, and the* appearance of the fourth man resembles the son of a god."

⁸ And the fourth poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was granted to it to burn up people with fire. ⁹ And people were burned up by the great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has the authority over these plagues, and they did not repent to give him glory.

¹⁵ And if anyone was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

⁸ But as for the cowards and unbelievers and detestable persons and murderers and sexually immoral people and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their share is in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death.

¹⁴ See, he* travails with* evil. He is pregnant with trouble, and he gives birth to deception. ¹⁵ He makes a pit and digs it out, then falls in the trap he has made. ¹⁶ His trouble comes back on his head, and his violence comes down on his skull.

¹⁶ Yahweh has made himself known; he has executed judgment. The wicked is snared by the work of his hands. Higgaion* Selah

³ May Yahweh cut off all flattering lips, the tongue speaking great boasts— ⁴ those who say, "With our tongue we will prevail. Our lips are on our side. Who is master over us?"

²¹ Evil will slay the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will incur guilt.

¹⁷ haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

²¹ Misfortune will pursue sinners, but the righteous _⌊will be rewarded with prosperity_⌋.*

²⁰ He who is crooked of heart* will not find goodness, and he who is perverse, by his tongue he will fall into calamity.

²¹ Death and life are in the _⌊power_⌋* of the tongue, and those who love her* will eat of her fruit.

¹¹ Woe to the wicked!* It is bad! For what is done by his hands will be done to him.

⁴⁵ then you shall hear in heaven their prayer and their plea, and you shall _⌊vindicate_⌋* them.

⁴⁹ then you shall hear in heaven, the place of your dwelling, their prayer and their plea, and you shall _⌊vindicate them_⌋.*

⁴ For you have maintained my just cause; you have sat on the throne judging correctly.

¹⁷ The longing of the afflicted you have heard, O Yahweh. You will make their heart secure. You will _⌊listen attentively_⌋* ¹⁸ to render judgment for the fatherless and the oppressed so that a mere mortal from the earth will no longer cause terror.

²⁴ because he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, and has not hid his face from him; but he listened to him when he cried for help.

¹⁰ All of my bones shall say, "O Yahweh, who is like you, who delivers the poor from one stronger than he and the poor and needy from the one who robs him?"

⁴ May he provide justice for the poor of the people, save the children of the needy, and crush the oppressor.

¹² Indeed he will deliver the needy who is crying for help, and the afflicted who has no helper. ¹³ He will take pity on the helpless and needy, and the lives of the needy he will save. ¹⁴ From oppression and from violence he will redeem their lives, and their blood will be precious in his eyes.

¹⁷ He will turn his attention to the prayer of the destitute and will not despise their prayer.

²² Do not rob the poor because he is poor, and do not crush the afflicted at the gate;

¹⁰ Do not remove an ancient boundary marker, and on the fields of orphans do not encroach; ¹¹ For their redeemer is strong, he himself will plead their cause against you.

⁴ But he shall judge the poor with righteousness, and he shall decide for the needy of the earth with rectitude. And he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and he shall kill the wicked person with the breath of his lips.

¹⁶ He judged the legal cause of the needy and the poor, and then it was well. _⌊Is that not what it means to know me_⌋?*" _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

⁵ the blind receive sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised, and the poor have good news announced to them.*

⁷ For Yahweh is righteous; he loves righteous deeds. The upright shall see his face.

¹¹ You will make known to me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy. At your right hand are pleasures forever.

⁶ Surely goodness and loyal love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will stay* in the house* of Yahweh _⌊for a very long time_⌋.*

¹¹ Be glad in Yahweh and rejoice, you righteous, and shout for joy, all you upright of heart.

²⁴ You will guide me with your advice, and afterward you will take me into honor.*

¹² Be glad in Yahweh, you righteous, and give thanks _⌊to his holy name_⌋.*

¹⁰ Tell the innocent* that it is good for they shall eat the fruit of their deeds.

³ And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself, so that where I am, you may be also.

²⁴ "Father, those whom you have given to me—I want that those also may be with me where I am, in order that they may see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.

¹⁷ Then we who are alive, who remain, will be snatched away at the same time together with them in the clouds for a meeting with the Lord in the air, and thus we will be together with the Lord always.

¹⁴ And I said to him, "My lord, you know." And he said to me,
"These are the ones who have come out of the great tribulation, and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ Because of this, they are before the throne of God, and they serve* him day and night in his temple, and the one who is seated on the throne _⌊will shelter_⌋* them. ¹⁶ They will not be hungry any longer or be thirsty any longer, nor will the sun ever beat down on them, nor any heat,* ¹⁷ because the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and will lead them to springs of living waters, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."*

²⁴ And the nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. ²⁵ And its gates will never be shut by day (for there will be no night there), ²⁶ and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. ²⁷ And every unclean thing and one who practices* detestable things and falsehood will never enter into it, except those who are written in the book of life of the Lamb.
