How long, O Yahweh? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? ² How long must I take counsel* in my soul, and sorrow in my heart all the day? How long will my enemy be exalted over me? ³ Consider* and answer me, O Yahweh my God. Give light to my eyes lest I sleep the sleep of death, ⁴ and lest my enemy should say, "I have overcome him," lest my enemies rejoice because I am shaken. ⁵ But as for me, I have trusted in your steadfast love.* My heart will rejoice in your deliverance. ⁶ * I will sing to Yahweh because he has dealt bountifully with me.

¹⁷ And _⌊my anger shall flare up against them_⌋* on that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they* shall become as prey, and disasters and troubles shall find* them,* and they* shall say on that day, 'Is it not because our* God is not in our* midst that these disasters have found* us?'*

²⁴ Why do you* hide your* face and count me as your* enemy?

³ My soul is also very terrified. But you, O Yahweh, how long?

¹² Rise up, O Yahweh; O God, lift up your hand. Do not forget the afflicted.

My God, my God why have you forsaken me? Why are you far from helping me, far from the words of my groaning? ² O my God, I call by day and you do not answer, and by night but I have no rest.*

¹⁷ My Lord, how long will you watch? Restore my life from their ravages,* my only life from the young lions.

²⁴ Why do you hide your face? Have you forgotten our misery and our oppression?

Why, O God, have you rejected us forever? Why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture?

⁴ O Yahweh God of hosts, _⌊how long will you be angry_⌋* against the prayer of your people?

⁵ Will you be angry against us forever? Will you prolong your anger generation after generation?

⁴⁶ How long, O Yahweh? Will you hide yourself forever? Will your wrath burn like fire forever?

¹⁴ Satisfy us in the morning with your loyal love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

³ How long will the wicked, O Yahweh, how long will the wicked exult? ⁴ _⌊They gush words_⌋* unrestrained. All the evildoers boast.

² Rather, your iniquities have been _⌊barriers_⌋* between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you, from hearing.

²⁰ Why have you forgotten us forever? Why have you forsaken us _⌊for so long_⌋?*

¹⁹ For a man has found his enemy but sent him on his way safely. Now may Yahweh reward you with good in return for this day, for what you have done for me.

² So the king said to me, "Why is your face sad since you are not sick? This is nothing but sadness of the heart." And I was very much afraid.

⁶ And Esther said, "The adversary and enemy is this evil Haman!" And Haman was terrified before the king and queen.

¹² Am I the sea, or a sea monster, that you set a guard over me? ¹³ When I say, 'My bed will comfort me, and my couch* will ease my complaint,' ¹⁴ then* you terrify me with dreams,* and with visions you terrify* me. ¹⁵ So* my inner self* will choose* strangling— death more than my _⌊existence_⌋.*

¹⁹ If _⌊it is a matter of_⌋* strength, look, he is mighty. But* if _⌊it is a matter of_⌋* justice, who can summon me?* ²⁰ Even though I am righteous, my mouth will condemn me; even though I am blameless, yet* it would pronounce me guilty. ²¹ "I am blameless; I do not care about myself;* I loathe my life.

²⁷ Though* _⌊I say_⌋,* 'I will forget my complaint; I will change my expression, and I will rejoice,' ²⁸ I become afraid of all my sufferings; I know that you do not consider me innocent.

¹⁵ If I am guilty, woe to me! But* if I am righteous, I dare not lift my head; I am filled with shame, and just look at my misery!

⁸ "When I go forward, _⌊he is not there_⌋,* or* backward, I cannot see him.* ⁹ _⌊When he works_⌋* on the left, _⌊I cannot perceive_⌋* him; he turns to the right, but* I cannot see him. ¹⁰ But he knows _⌊the way that I take_⌋;* he tests me—I shall come out like gold.

² Or else he will tear me apart like a lion, ripping to pieces, with none to deliver.

⁴ if I have repaid _⌊my ally_⌋* with harm, or if I have plundered my enemy without cause, ⁵ let the enemy of my soul pursue, and overtake and trample my life into the ground, and lay my honor in the dust. Selah

² From the mouth of children and infants you have founded* strength on account of your enemies, to silence the enemy and the avenger.

⁶ The enemies are destroyed in ruins forever, and you have uprooted their cities; their very memory has perished.

¹⁸ to render judgment for the fatherless and the oppressed so that a mere mortal from the earth will no longer cause terror.

⁹ from the _⌊presence_⌋* of the wicked who destroy me, those enemies against my life, they that surround me.

⁷ All who see me mock me. They open wide their lips; they shake the head, saying: ⁸ "_⌊He trusts Yahweh_⌋.* Let him rescue him. Let him deliver him because he delights in him."

¹⁸ Let lying lips be dumb, that speak against the righteous* unrestrained with arrogance and contempt.

¹⁷ For I am ready to stumble, and my pain is before me continually.

⁴ These I remember and I pour out my soul within me: that I would go with the multitude; I led them in procession to the house* of God, with a voice of rejoicing and thanksgiving, a crowd celebrating a festival.

⁹ I say to God, my rock, "Why have you forgotten me? Why must I walk about mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?" ¹⁰ As with a shattering in my bones my oppressors taunt me, while they say to me _⌊all day_⌋,* "Where is your God?"

¹⁴ You have made us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples. ¹⁵ _⌊All day long_⌋* my disgrace is before me, and the shame of my face covers me, ¹⁶ because of the voice of the taunter and the reviler, because of the enemy and the avenger.

¹⁰ How long, O God, will the adversary taunt? Will the enemy treat your name with contempt forever?

¹⁸ O Yahweh, remember this: the enemy taunts, and foolish people treat your name with contempt.

² In the day I have trouble, I seek* the Lord. At night my hand stretches out _⌊continually_⌋;* my soul refuses to be comforted. ³ I remember God and I groan loudly; I meditate and my spirit grows faint. ⁴ You hold open my eyelids. I am troubled and cannot speak. ⁵ I think about the days from long ago, the years of ancient times. ⁶ I remember my song in the night. With my heart I meditate, and my spirit searches to understand. ⁷ Will the Lord reject us forever, and will he never be pleased with us again? ⁸ Has his loyal love ceased forever? Is his promise* ended throughout generations? ⁹ Has God forgotten to have compassion? Or has he closed off his mercies in anger? Selah ¹⁰ So I said, "This pierces me—* the right hand of the Most High has changed." ¹¹ I will remember the deeds of Yah.* Surely I will remember your wonders* from long ago. ¹² I will also muse on all your work, and meditate on your deeds.

¹⁸ When I thought,* "My foot is slipping," your loyal love, O Yahweh, supported me. ¹⁹ When my troubled thoughts were many _⌊within me_⌋,* your consolations cheered my soul.

³ The ropes of death encircled me, and the distresses of Sheol found me. I found trouble and grief.

³ Be gracious to us, O Yahweh, be gracious to us, for long enough we have had our fill of contempt. ⁴ For long enough our soul has had its fill of the derision of the self-confident, the contempt of the arrogant.

⁴ look to my right and see. There is no one looking out for me; there is no escape for me;* no one cares for my soul.* ⁵ I cry out to you, O Yahweh. I say, "You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living." ⁶ Attend to my cry, for I am brought very low. Deliver me from my pursuers, for they are stronger than I. ⁷ Bring me* out of prison, that I may give thanks to your name. The righteous will encircle me, because you will deal bountifully with me.

³ For the enemy has pursued my soul; he has crushed my life to the ground. He has made me dwell in dark places like those long dead. ⁴ And so my spirit grows faint within me; my heart _⌊within_⌋* me is desolate.

¹³ A heart* of gladness will make good _⌊countenance_⌋,* but in sorrow of heart* a spirit is broken.

¹⁷ Also, he eats in darkness all his days; he is frustrated in much sickness and resentment.

¹⁸ "My comfort is gone from me, sorrow is on me, my heart is sick.

¹⁸ Why is my pain endless, and my wound incurable? It refuses to become healed. Truly you are to me like a deceitful brook, waters that are not trustworthy.

³ 'You said, "Woe please to me, for Yahweh has added sorrow to my pain. I am weary in my groaning and I do not find rest." '

⁵ Her foes have become her _⌊master_⌋,* her enemies are at ease; Yahweh has made her suffer because of the greatness of her transgressions. Her children have gone away, captive before the foe.

⁹ Her uncleanness was in her skirts; she did not remember her future, she has descended beyond understanding, there is no comforter for her. See, O Yahweh, my persecution! My enemy has been made great!

⁸ You should not rejoice over me, O my enemy! When I fall I will stand up; when I sit in darkness Yahweh will be a light for me. ⁹ I will bear the rage of Yahweh, for I have sinned against him, until he pleads my cause and executes my justice. He will bring me out to the light; I will see his righteousness. ¹⁰ Then my enemy will see, and shame will cover her who said to me, "Where is Yahweh your God?" My eyes will look upon her; now she will become a trampling place, like mud in the streets.

³⁸ Then he said to them, "My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake with me."

⁵³ Every day when* I was with you in the temple courts,* you did not stretch out your* hands against me! But this is your hour and the domain of darkness!"

⁶ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts.

² that my grief is great and there is constant distress in my heart.

²⁷ For indeed he was sick, coming near to death, but God had mercy on him and not on him only, but also on me, so that I would not have grief upon grief.

²⁷ However, Jonathan had not heard about the oath of his father with the army, so he extended the end of the staff which was in his hand, and he dipped it into the honeycomb.* Then he put his hand to his mouth and his eyes gleamed.*

²⁹ Then Jonathan said, "My father has brought trouble on the land! See now that my eyes have brightened because I have tasted a little of this honey.

⁸ But now for a brief moment mercy has been shown by Yahweh our God, who left behind for us a remnant, and given us security in his holy place—for our God to brighten our eyes and to give us brief relief in our bondage.

Hear my words, O Yahweh. Give heed to my sighing.*

¹³ Be gracious to me, O Yahweh. See my suffering from those who hate me, you who lift me up from the gates of death,

²⁸ For you light my lamp; Yahweh, my God, lights up my darkness.

¹⁹ Consider that my enemies are many, and they hate me with violent hatred.

⁷ I will exult and rejoice in your loyal love. Because you have seen my misery, you know the distresses of my life.*

¹⁵³ See my misery and rescue me, for I do not forget your law.

³⁹ At their becoming hot I will set their banquets, and I will make them drunk, so that they will fall into a swoon, and they will sleep _⌊an everlasting sleep_⌋,* and they will not wake up," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

⁵⁷ "And I will make drunk her officials, and her wise men, her governors, and her officials, and her warriors, and they will sleep _⌊an everlasting sleep_⌋,* and they will not wake up," _⌊declares_⌋* the King, Yahweh of hosts is his name.

¹ Remember, O Yahweh, what has become of us; take note, and see our disgrace!

³² a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory to your people Israel."

¹⁴ for everything made visible is light. Therefore it says,
Wake up, sleeper, and rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.*

²³ And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon, that they shine on it, for the glory of God illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb.

⁹ The Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of this, and they will surround us and cut off our name from the land. What will you do, for your great name?"

¹⁹ Rise up, O Yahweh, let not humans* prevail; let the nations be judged before you.

¹¹ He says in his heart, "God has forgotten. He has hidden his face. He never sees."

² O my God, I trust you; let me not be put to shame. Do not let my enemies exult over me.

¹⁹ Let not those who are wrongfully my enemies* rejoice over me. Nor let those who hate me without cause wink the eye.

²⁵ Do not let them say in their hearts,* "Aha, our desire." Let them not say, "We have swallowed him up."

¹⁶ For I said, "Help, lest they rejoice over me, lest they boast against me when my foot slips."

²² Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.*

I lift up my eyes to the mountains; whence will my help come? ² My help is from Yahweh, maker of heaven and earth. ³ He will not allow your foot to be moved; he who protects you will not slumber.

³ A person will not be established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous will not be moved.

¹⁹ And they will fight against you but they will not prevail against you, for I am with you," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "to deliver you."

¹⁶ For these things, I am weeping, _⌊my eyes flow with tears_⌋;* because a comforter is far from me, one to restore my life. My sons are desolate because the enemy has prevailed.

¹² And you will know that I, Yahweh, I have heard all of your contemptible words that you said* against the mountains of Israel, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'They will be desolate; they are given to us as food.' ¹³ And you magnified yourself against me with your _⌊insolent speech_⌋,* and you spoke voluminously against me with your words—I heard! ¹⁴ Thus the Lord Yahweh says, '_⌊As the whole world rejoices_⌋,* I will make you a desolation. ¹⁵ _⌊Like your rejoicing over the inheritance of the house of Israel_⌋* _⌊because_⌋* it was desolate, I will do to you; you will be a desolation, mountain of Seir and all of Edom, indeed all of it; and they will know that I am Yahweh.'" '

¹ Then Hannah prayed and said,
"My heart exults in Yahweh, my strength is exalted in Yahweh; _⌊I grin_⌋* over my enemies, for I rejoice over your salvation.

¹⁴ so that I may tell of all your praises. In the gates of the daughter of Zion let me rejoice in your salvation.

¹⁰ Many are the pains of the wicked, but for the one who trusts Yahweh loyal love surrounds him.

¹⁸ Behold, the eye of Yahweh is on those who fear him, on those who hope* for his loyal love

²¹ For in him our heart rejoices because in his holy name we trust. ²² Let your loyal love, O Yahweh, be upon us, _⌊even as_⌋* we hope in you.

⁷ How precious is your loyal love, O God, and the children of humankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

⁴ Then* I will go to the altar of God, to God, _⌊my surpassing joy_⌋,* and I will praise you with lyre, O God, my God. ⁵ Why are you _⌊in despair_⌋,* O my soul? And why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God, because I will again praise him, _⌊my salvation_⌋* and my God.

¹² Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and with a willing spirit sustain me.

⁸ But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house* of God. I trust the loyal love of God forever and ever.

⁸¹ My soul languishes for your salvation; I hope in your word.

¹¹ Yahweh takes pleasure in those who fear him, the ones who hope* for his loyal love.

² Look! God is my salvation; I will trust, and I will not be afraid, for my strength and might is Yah, Yahweh; and he has become salvation for me."

¹⁸ Yet I will rejoice in Yahweh; I will exult in the God of my salvation.

⁴⁷ and my spirit has rejoiced greatly in God my Savior,

²⁰ And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them.

²¹ keep yourselves in the love of God, looking forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.

¹³ Be exalted, O Yahweh, in your strength, and we sing and praise your power.

⁷ Return, O my soul, to your repose, for Yahweh has dealt bountifully with you.

⁷ I will give you thanks with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous laws.
