²⁰ Like one who removes a garment on a cold day, or like vinegar on natron,* is he who sings songs to a heavy heart.

¹² And if he is a needy man, you shall not sleep in his pledge.* ¹³ You shall certainly return the pledge to him _⌊as the sun sets_⌋,* so that he may sleep in his cloak and may bless you, and it shall be considered righteousness _⌊on your behalf_⌋* _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God. ¹⁴ "You shall not exploit a hired worker, who is needy and poor, from among your fellow men or from among your aliens* who are in your land and in your _⌊towns_⌋.* ¹⁵ On his day you shall give his wage, and the sun shall not go _⌊down_⌋,* because he is poor and _⌊his life depends on it_⌋;* do this so that he does not cry out against you to Yahweh, _⌊and you incur guilt_⌋.* ¹⁶ "Fathers shall not be put to death because of their children, and children shall not be put to death because of their fathers; each one shall be put to death for his own sin. ¹⁷ You shall not subvert the rights of an alien or an orphan, and you shall not take as pledge the garment of a widow.

⁷ They spend the night naked, _⌊without_⌋* clothing, and they have no garment in the cold. ⁸ They are wet from the rainstorm of the mountains,* and they cling to the rock _⌊without_⌋* refuge. ⁹ "They* snatch the orphan from the breast, and they take a pledge against the needy.* ¹⁰ They* go about naked, without clothing, and hungry, they carry the sheaves.*

³ For there our captors asked of us words of a song, and our tormentors* asked of us jubilation, "Sing for us from a song of Zion." ⁴ How could we sing the song of Yahweh in _⌊a foreign land_⌋?*

²⁶ Like vinegar to the tooth and like smoke to the eyes, thus is the lazy to one who employs* him.

⁴ a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance;

⁷ Is it not to break your bread for the hungry? You must bring _⌊home_⌋* the poor, the homeless. When you see the naked, you must cover him, and you must not hide yourself from your _⌊relatives_⌋.*

¹⁸ Then the king went to his palace and spent the night in fasting, and no food was brought in before him and his sleep fled from him.

¹⁵ Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.

¹⁵ If a brother or a sister is poorly clothed and lacking food for the day, ¹⁶ and one of you should say to them, "Go in peace, keep warm and _⌊eat well_⌋*," but does not give them what is necessary for the body, what is the benefit?

¹⁵ And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins _⌊he will be forgiven_⌋*.
