¹² A ring of gold and an ornament of fine gold is a rebuke of the wise to the ear of a listener.

¹¹ So* all his brothers and all his sisters and all those who had known him _⌊before_⌋* came to him, and they ate bread* with him in his house and showed sympathy to him and comforted him for all the disaster* that Yahweh had brought upon him. Then* each one gave to him one piece of money, and each one gave to him one ornamental ring of gold.

⁵ Let a righteous one strike me in kindness, and let him chasten me. It is oil for my head;* let not my head refuse. For still my prayer is against their evil deeds.

⁸ My child, may you keep* your father's instruction, and do not reject your mother's teachings, ⁹ for they are a garland of favor for your head, and pendants for your neck.

⁸ Do not rebuke a scoffer, lest he hate you; rebuke the wise and he will love you.

⁵ A fool will despise the instruction of his father, but he who guards reproof is prudent.

³¹ The ear of him who listens to admonitions of life, in the midst of the wise it will lodge. ³² He who ignores instruction despises himself,* but he who hears admonition gains heart.*
