⁵ Then my God put into my heart to assemble the nobles, the prefects, and the people to be enrolled. I found the book of the genealogy of those who first came back, and I found this written upon it:

¹ So all Israel was enrolled in genealogy. And behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel. And Judah was taken away to Babylon on account of their sin. ² Now the first inhabitants who were settled on their property in their cities in Israel were the priests, the Levites, and the temple servants. ³ And some of the people of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh lived in Jerusalem: ⁴ Uthai the son of Ammihud, son of Omri, son of Imri, son of Bani,* from the sons of Perez,* the son of Judah. ⁵ And from the Shilonites: Asaiah the firstborn and his sons. ⁶ And from the sons of Zerah: Jeuel and their brethren, six hundred and ninety. ⁷ And from the sons of Benjamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah; ⁸ Ibneah the son of Jeroham; Elah the son of Uzzi, son of Michri; Meshullam the son of Shephatiah, son of Reuel, son of Ibnijah; ⁹ and their brethren according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty-six. All these men were the heads of the _⌊families_⌋* in the house of their fathers.

⁶² These sought their record in the genealogy records, but they were not found, and _⌊were excluded from the priesthood as unclean_⌋.*

²⁷ Blessed be Yahweh the God of our ancestors,* who put this in the heart of the king to glorify the house of Yahweh in Jerusalem

¹⁹ Remember me for good, my God, all that I have done for this people.

¹⁴ Remember, O my God, Tobiah and Sanballat according to their works, and also Noadiah the prophetess, and the remainder of the prophets who were frightening me.

⁶⁴ These sought their record among those enrolled in the genealogy, but it was not found there, so they were excluded as unclean from the priesthood.

¹⁰ But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me has not been in vain, but I labored even more than all of them, and not I, but the grace of God with me.

⁵ Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God,

¹⁶ But thanks be to God, who has put in the heart of Titus the same devotion _⌊on your behalf_⌋*,

¹² Therefore my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. ¹³ For the one at work in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure, is God.

²⁹ for which purpose also I labor, striving according to his working which is at work powerfully in me.

¹⁶ Do not be deceived, my dear brothers.
