¹ Then Joshua summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, ² and he said to them, "You have observed all that Moses Yahweh's servant commanded you, and you have listened* to my voice in all that I have commanded you; ³ you have not forsaken your kinsmen* these many days, up to this day, and you have observed the obligation of the command of Yahweh your God. ⁴ So then, Yahweh your God has given rest to your kinsmen,* just as he promised them; so then, turn and go to your tents to the land of your possession, which Moses Yahweh's servant gave to you beyond the Jordan. ⁵ Only be very careful to observe the commandment and law that Moses Yahweh's servant commanded you, to love Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, to keep his commandments, to hold fast to him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul."* ⁶ And Joshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went to their tents. ⁷ And to the half-tribe of Manasseh Moses had given a possession in Bashan, but to the other half Joshua had given a possession with their kinsmen* beyond the Jordan to the west; and when Joshua sent them to their tents and blessed them, ⁸ he said to them, "Return to your tents with much wealth, and with very much livestock, with silver, gold, copper, iron, and with very much clothing; divide the war-booty of your enemies with your kinsmen."* ⁹ So the descendants* of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned home and departed with the _⌊Israelites_⌋* at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go to the land of Gilead to the land of their possession, which they had acquired _⌊according to the command of Yahweh_⌋* through the hand of Moses. ¹⁰ And they came to the region of the Jordan that is in the land of Canaan, and the descendants* of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an altar on the Jordan, _⌊a large and imposing altar_⌋.* ¹¹ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* heard it said that the descendants* of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had built an altar next to the land of Canaan, in the region of the Jordan, on the side belonging to the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ¹² When the _⌊Israelites_⌋* heard of it, the whole congregation of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* gathered at Shiloh to go up against them for battle. ¹³ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* sent to the descendants* of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, to the land of Gilead, Phinehas the priest son of Eleazar, ¹⁴ and ten leaders with him, _⌊one leader for each_⌋* _⌊family_⌋* from each of the tribes of Israel; and each one was the head of _⌊his family_⌋* among the clans of Israel.* ¹⁵ They came to the descendants* of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, to the land of Gilead, and they spoke with them, saying, ¹⁶ "Thus says all the congregation of Yahweh: 'What is this treachery that you have committed against the God of Israel by turning away today from following Yahweh, by building for yourselves an altar to rebel today against Yahweh? ¹⁷ Is not the sin of Peor _⌊enough for us_⌋,* from which we have not cleansed ourselves today, and for which a plague came to the congregation of Yahweh, ¹⁸ that you must turn today from following Yahweh? If you rebel today against Yahweh, tomorrow he will be angry with all of the congregation of Israel; ¹⁹ if, however, the land of your property is unclean, cross over to the land of Yahweh's property, where Yahweh's tabernacle resides,* and take possession among us. But you must not rebel against Yahweh or against us by building for yourselves an altar other than the altar of Yahweh our God. ²⁰ Did not Achan son of Zerah commit treachery with devoted things,* and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? _⌊And he alone_⌋* did not perish because of his iniquity.'" ²¹ And the descendants* of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh spoke with the heads of the clans* of Israel, ²² "Yahweh, God of gods! Yahweh, God of gods knows. And let Israel itself know, if it was in rebellion or treachery against Yahweh, do not spare us this day ²³ for building for ourselves an altar to turn away from Yahweh, or if it was to offer burnt offerings,* grain offerings,* or fellowship offerings on it, may Yahweh himself take vengeance. ²⁴ But in fact, we have done this because of anxiety, because of a reason, saying, 'In the future your children may say to our children, '_⌊What is the relationship between you and Yahweh the God of Israel_⌋?* ²⁵ Yahweh has made the Jordan a border between us and you, the descendants* of Reuben and Gad; you have no portion in Yahweh.' So your children may put an end to our children worshiping* Yahweh. ²⁶ So we said, 'Let us build immediately for ourselves an altar, not for burnt offerings* or for sacrifices;* ²⁷ instead, it is a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us for performing the serving of Yahweh in his presence with our burnt offerings, sacrifices, and fellowship offerings; so that your children may not say in the future to our children, "You have no portion in Yahweh." ' ²⁸ And we thought, if they say to us and to our children in the future, we can say, 'Look at this replica of the altar of Yahweh, which our ancestors* made, not for burnt offerings* or sacrifices;* rather, it is a witness between us and you.' ²⁹ Far be it from us to rebel against Yahweh, to turn today from following Yahweh, to build an altar for burnt offerings,* grain offerings,* or sacrifices,* instead of the altar of Yahweh our God that is before his tabernacle." ³⁰ Phinehas the priest, the leaders of the congregation, and the heads of the clans* of Israel who were with him heard the words that the descendants* of Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh spoke, and _⌊they were satisfied_⌋.* ³¹ Phinehas the priest, son of Eleazar, said to the descendants* of Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh, "Today we know that Yahweh is among us, because you have not committed this treachery against Yahweh. Therefore you have rescued the _⌊Israelites_⌋* from the hand of Yahweh." ³² And Phinehas the priest, son of Eleazar, and the leaders returned from the descendants* of Reuben and Gad, from the land of Gilead, to the land of Canaan to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and _⌊they gave them their report_⌋.* ³³ _⌊The report satisfied the Israelites_⌋;* they blessed God, and they did not speak of going up for battle against them to destroy the land in which the descendants* of Reuben and Gad were living.* ³⁴ The descendants* of Reuben and Gad called the altar Witness, "Because," they said, "it is a witness between us that Yahweh is God."

¹⁸ We will not return to our houses until the _⌊Israelites_⌋* each obtain their* inheritance for themselves. ¹⁹ For we will not take possession with them from across the Jordan and beyond because our inheritance has come to us from across the Jordan to the east." ²⁰ So Moses said to them, "If you do this thing, if you arm yourselves _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh for the war, ²¹ and everyone of you armed cross the Jordan _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh until he has driven out his enemies from before him, ²² and the land is subdued _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, then afterward you will return and be free of obligation from Yahweh and from Israel, and this land will be your property _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ²³ But if you do not do so, behold, you have sinned against Yahweh, and know that your sin will find you. ²⁴ Build for yourselves cities for your little children and sheep pens for your flocks; what has gone out from your mouth you will do." ²⁵ So the descendants* of Gad and the descendants* of Reuben said to Moses, saying, "Your servants will do just as my lord commands. ²⁶ Our little children, our wives, our livestock, and all of our animals* _⌊will remain_⌋* in the cities of Gilead, ²⁷ but your servants, everyone who is armed for battle, will cross over _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh to the war, just as my lord says." ²⁸ So Moses commanded them, Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the _⌊families_⌋* of the tribes of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ²⁹ Moses said to them, "If the descendants* of Gad and the descendants* of Reuben, everyone who is armed for the war, cross over the Jordan _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, and the land is subdued before you, you will give them the land of Gilead as property. ³⁰ But if they will not cross over with you armed, they will acquire land in your midst in Canaan." ³¹ The descendants* of Gad and the descendants of Reuben answered and said, "What Yahweh has commanded your servants, we will do. ³² We ourselves will cross over armed _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh to the land of Canaan, and the property of our inheritance will remain with us beyond the Jordan." ³³ So Moses gave to them, to the descendants* of Gad and the descendants* of Reuben, and to half of the tribe of Joseph's son Manasseh, the kingdom of Sihon the king of Amorites and the kingdom of Og the king of the Bashan, the land with its cities and their territories, the cities of the surrounding land.

⁷ And when you came to this place then Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out to meet you for battle, and we defeated them. ⁸ And we took their land and gave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites* and to the Gadites* and to the half-tribe of Manasseh.

¹⁶ And to the Reubenites* and to the Gadites* I gave, from Gilead up to the wadi* of Arnon, the middle of the wadi* as a boundary and up to the Jabbok _⌊River_⌋,* the boundary of the _⌊Ammonites_⌋.* ¹⁷ And the _⌊Jordan Valley_⌋* with the Jordan River as its boundary, from Kinnereth* up to the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea,* with the slopes of Pisgah toward the east. ¹⁸ "And I charged you all at that time when I said, "Yahweh has given you—to all of you—this land to possess. All the _⌊warriors_⌋* shall cross over, ready to fight, before your brothers, the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ¹⁹ Only your wives and your little children and your livestock (I know that _⌊you have much livestock_⌋)* must stay in your towns that I have given you, ²⁰ until Yahweh shall give rest to your brothers as he did to you, and also they take possession of the land that Yahweh your God is giving to them beyond the Jordan; then they may return, each one to his possession that I have given to them.

¹² To the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh Joshua said, ¹³ "Remember the word that Moses Yahweh's servant commanded you, saying, 'Yahweh your God is giving rest to you, and he is giving* you this land.' ¹⁴ Your wives, your little children, and your livestock, they will remain in the land that Moses gave to you beyond the Jordan. _⌊All of the best fighting men_⌋* will cross armed in front of your families; they will help you ¹⁵ until Yahweh gives rest to your families as well as to you. They will take possession of the land that Yahweh your God is giving to them. Then you will return to your own land and take possession of it, the land that Moses the servant of Yahweh gave you beyond the Jordan _⌊to the east_⌋."* ¹⁶ And they answered Joshua, saying, "All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you will send us we will go. ¹⁷ Just as we obeyed Moses, so will we obey you. Only may Yahweh your God be with you, as he was with Moses. ¹⁸ Whoever _⌊rebels against your orders_⌋* and does not obey your words according to what you commanded us will be put to death. Only be strong and courageous."

²³ But I am hard pressed _⌊between the two options_⌋*, having the desire to depart and to be with Christ, _⌊for this is very much better_⌋*. ²⁴ But to stay on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. ²⁵ And because I am* convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, ²⁶ so that what you can be proud of may increase in Christ Jesus because of me through my return again to you. ²⁷ Only lead your lives in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent I hear _⌊your circumstances_⌋*, that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one soul contending side by side for the faith of the gospel,

¹⁸ We will not return to our houses until the _⌊Israelites_⌋* each obtain their* inheritance for themselves.

³³ So Moses gave to them, to the descendants* of Gad and the descendants* of Reuben, and to half of the tribe of Joseph's son Manasseh, the kingdom of Sihon the king of Amorites and the kingdom of Og the king of the Bashan, the land with its cities and their territories, the cities of the surrounding land. ³⁴ The descendants* of Gad rebuilt Dibon, Ataroth, and Aroer, ³⁵ and Atroth Shophan, Jazer, and Jogbehah, ³⁶ and Beth Nimrah and Beth Haran, the cities of Mibzar, and the sheep pens for flocks. ³⁷ The descendants* of Reuben rebuilt Heshbon, Elealeh, and Kiriathaim, ³⁸ and Nebo, Baal Meon (their names* were changed), and Sibmah, and _⌊they renamed_⌋* the cities that they rebuilt. ³⁹ The descendants* of Makir son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and they captured it and drove out the Amorites* who were in it. ⁴⁰ So Moses gave Gilead to Makir son of Manasseh, and he lived in it. ⁴¹ And Jair son of Manasseh went and captured their unwalled villages, and he called them Havvoth Jair. ⁴² Nobah went and captured Kenath and its villages, and he called it Nobah after his own name.

¹ "Then we turned, and we went up the road to Bashan, and Og the king of Bashan came out to meet us, he and all of his army for the battle at Edrei. ² And Yahweh said to me, 'You should not fear him, for I have given him and all of his army* and his land into your hand. And so you will do to him as you did to Sihon the king of the Amorites,* who was reigning in Heshbon.' ³ And so Yahweh our God also gave Og the king of Bashan, and all of his army* into our hand, and we struck him down until not a survivor remained to* him. ⁴ And we captured all of his towns* at that time; there was not a city that we did not take from them. ⁵ All of these were fortified towns with high walls, gates, and bars,* _⌊apart from_⌋* very many of the villages of the open country. ⁶ And so we destroyed them just as we had done to Sihon the king of Heshbon; we destroyed utterly each town of males, the women, and the little children. ⁷ But all of the livestock and the booty of the towns we kept as spoil for ourselves.* ⁸ "And so we took at that time the land from _⌊the control of_⌋* the two kings of the Amorites* who were _⌊on the other side of the Jordan_⌋,* from the wadi* of Arnon up to _⌊Mount Hermon_⌋.* ⁹ (The Sidonians called Hermon 'Sirion,' and the Amorites called it 'Senir.') ¹⁰ All of the towns of the plateau and the whole of Gilead and all of Bashan up to Salecah and Edrei, the towns of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. ¹¹ (For only Og, king of Bashan, was left from the remnant of the Rephaim. Indeed, his bedstead—it was a bedstead of iron. It is in Rabbah of the _⌊Ammonites_⌋.* Nine cubits is its length, and four cubits is its width according to the cubit of a man.) ¹² And so we took possession of this land at that time, from Aroer, which is on the edge of the wadi* of Arnon, and also half of the hill country of Gilead and its towns I gave to the Reubenites* and to the Gadites.* ¹³ And the remainder of Gilead and all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh, the whole region of Argo. All of that area of Bashan was called the land of the Rephaim. ¹⁴ Jair the descendant* of Manasseh acquired the whole region of Argob, up to the boundary of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and he called it,* that is Bashan, after his own name, Havvoth Jair, _⌊as it still is today_⌋.* ¹⁵ And also I gave Gilead to Makir. ¹⁶ And to the Reubenites* and to the Gadites* I gave, from Gilead up to the wadi* of Arnon, the middle of the wadi* as a boundary and up to the Jabbok _⌊River_⌋,* the boundary of the _⌊Ammonites_⌋.* ¹⁷ And the _⌊Jordan Valley_⌋* with the Jordan River as its boundary, from Kinnereth* up to the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea,* with the slopes of Pisgah toward the east.

²⁰ until Yahweh shall give rest to your brothers as he did to you, and also they take possession of the land that Yahweh your God is giving to them beyond the Jordan; then they may return, each one to his possession that I have given to them.

⁹ For you have not come up to now to the resting place and to the inheritance that Yahweh your God is giving to you.

⁸ And we took their land and gave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites* and to the Gadites* and to the half-tribe of Manasseh.

⁸ With it* the Reubenites,* and the Gadites* received their inheritance, which Moses gave them beyond the Jordan to the east, just as Moses Yahweh's servant gave to them:

¹⁵ Moses gave an inheritance to the tribe of the descendants* of Reuben according to their families.

⁴³ And Yahweh gave to Israel all the land that he swore to give to their ancestors,* and they took possession of it and _⌊settled in it_⌋.* ⁴⁴ Yahweh gave them rest on every side, according to all that he had sworn to their ancestors,* and nobody from all their enemies withstood them, for Yahweh had given all their enemies into their hand.

²⁶ And he said, "If you carefully listen to the voice of Yahweh your God and you do what is right in his eyes and give heed to his commands and you keep all his rules, then I will not bring about on you any of the diseases* that I brought about on Egypt, because I am Yahweh your healer.

⁶ and showing loyal love to thousands of generations* of those loving me and of those keeping my commandments.

¹ "Now, Israel, listen to the rules and to the regulations that I am teaching you to do, in order that you may live and you may go in and you may take possession of the land that Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* is giving to you. ² You must not add to the word that I am commanding you, and you shall not take away from it in order to keep* the commands of Yahweh your God that I am commanding you to observe.

⁴ But you, the ones holding fast to Yahweh your God, are all alive _⌊today_⌋.*

⁶ And _⌊you must observe them diligently_⌋,* for that is your wisdom and your insight before the eyes of the people, who will hear all of these rules, and they will say, 'Surely this great nation is a wise and discerning people.'

⁹ "However, _⌊take care_⌋* for yourself and watch your inner self* closely, so that you do not forget the things that your eyes have seen, so that they do not slip from your mind all the days of your life; and you shall make them known to your children and to _⌊your grandchildren_⌋.*

⁵ And you shall love Yahweh your God with all of your heart* and with all of your soul* and with all of your might. ⁶ And these words that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* shall be on* your heart.* ⁷ And you shall recite them to your children, and you shall talk about them at the time of your living in your house and at the time of your going on the road and at the time of your lying down and at the time of your rising up. ⁸ And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as an emblem between your eyes. ⁹ And you shall write them on the doorframe of your house and on your gates.

¹⁷ You shall diligently keep the commandments of Yahweh your God and his legal provisions and his rules that he has commanded you.

¹² And now, Israel, what is Yahweh your God asking* from you, except* to revere Yahweh your God, to go* in all his ways and to love him and to serve Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul,* ¹³ to keep the commandments of Yahweh and his statutes that I am commanding you today _⌊for your own good_⌋.*

²⁰ Yahweh your God, you shall revere him, you shall serve him, and to him you shall cling, and by his name you shall swear.

¹ "And you shall love Yahweh your God, and you shall keep his obligations and his statutes and his regulations and his commandments _⌊always_⌋.*

¹³ "And it will happen that if you listen carefully to my commandments that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋,* to love Yahweh your God, and to serve him with all of your heart and with all of your soul,*

²² Yes, if you diligently keep all* this commandment that I am commanding you _⌊to observe it_⌋, * by loving Yahweh your God _⌊by walking in_⌋* all his ways and by holding fast to him,

⁴ You shall go after Yahweh your God, and him you shall revere, and his commandment you shall keep, and to his voice you shall listen, and him you shall serve, and to him you shall hold fast.

⁸ But hold fast to Yahweh your God, just as you have done up to this day.

¹⁴ "So now, revere Yahweh and serve him in sincerity and faithfulness; remove the gods that your ancestors* served beyond the river* and in Egypt, and serve Yahweh. ¹⁵ But if it is bad in your eyes to serve Yahweh, choose for yourselves today whom you want to serve, whether it is the gods that your ancestors* served beyond the river,* or the gods of the Amorites* in whose land you are living; but as for me and my household, we will serve Yahweh."

³ And Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, "If with all your heart you are turning to Yahweh, remove the foreign gods and Ashtoreths* from your midst. Commit your hearts to Yahweh and serve him alone. Then he will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines."

²⁰ And Samuel said to the people, "Do not fear! You have done all this evil; only do not turn aside from _⌊following_⌋* Yahweh. But you must serve Yahweh with all your heart.

²⁴ Only fear Yahweh and serve him faithfully with all of your heart. For consider _⌊what great things he has done for you_⌋.*

⁷ and I will establish his kingdom forever if _⌊he firmly performs_⌋* my commandments and my judgments as he has to this day.' ⁸ So now in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of Yahweh, and in the hearing of our God, observe and seek all the commandments of Yahweh your God so that you may take possession of this good land and bestow it as an inheritance to your children after you forever."

³ Blessed are those who observe justice, he who does righteousness at all times.

⁴ You have commanded* your precepts, that we should keep them diligently. ⁵ Oh that my ways were steadfast, to keep your statutes! ⁶ Then I would not be ashamed when I look to all your commands.

²³ With all vigilance, keep your heart, for from it comes the source* of life.

² Why do you weigh out money for what is not food, and your labor for _⌊what cannot satisfy_⌋?* Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and let your soul take pleasure in _⌊rich_⌋* food.

¹⁶ _⌊And then_⌋,* if they diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, '_⌊as Yahweh lives_⌋,'* even as they taught my people to swear by Baal, then they will live in the midst of my people.

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan, for it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God and serve only him.'"*

²⁴ "No one is able to serve two masters. For either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You are not able to serve God and money.*

³⁷ And he said to him, " 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'*

⁷⁴ that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, could serve him without fear

²⁶ If anyone serves me, he must follow me, and where I am, there my servant will be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.

¹⁵ "If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

²¹ The one who has my commandments and keeps them—that one is the one who loves me. And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him." ²² Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, why* is it that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?" ²³ Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves me he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and _⌊will take up residence with him_⌋.*

⁹ For God, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, is my witness, how constantly I make mention of you,

²⁸ And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose,

⁹ Love must be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; be attached to what is good,

¹¹ And we desire each one of you to demonstrate the same diligence for the full assurance of your hope until the end, ¹² in order that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who inherit the promises through faith and patience.

¹⁵ Take care that no one falls short of the grace of God; that no one growing up like a root of bitterness causes trouble, and by it many become defiled;

¹² Blessed is the person* who endures testing, because when he* is approved he will receive the crown of life that he* has promised to those who love him.

⁵ Listen, my dear brothers! Did not God choose the poor of the world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him?

⁵ and for this same reason, and by* applying all diligence, supply with your faith excellence of character, and with excellence of character, knowledge, ⁶ and with knowledge, self-control, and with self-control, patient endurance, and with patient endurance, godliness, ⁷ and with godliness, brotherly love, and with brotherly love, love. ⁸ For if* these things are yours and are increasing, this does not make you useless or unproductive in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ For the one for whom these things are not present is blind, being nearsighted, _⌊having forgotten the cleansing_⌋* of his former sins. ¹⁰ Therefore, brothers, be zealous even more to make your calling and election secure, because if you* do these things, you will never ever stumble.

² By this we know that we love the children of God: whenever we love God and keep his commandments. ³ For this is the love of God: that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome,

¹⁹ And he blessed him and said,
"Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Maker of heaven and earth.

⁷ Then Joseph brought his father Jacob and presented him before Pharaoh. And Jacob blessed Pharaoh.

¹⁰ And Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and he went out from the presence of Pharaoh.

⁴³ And Moses saw all the work, and, indeed, they had done it as Yahweh had commanded; so they did, and Moses blessed them.

¹³ And Joshua blessed him and gave Hebron to Caleb son of Jephunneh as an inheritance.

⁷ And to the half-tribe of Manasseh Moses had given a possession in Bashan, but to the other half Joshua had given a possession with their kinsmen* beyond the Jordan to the west; and when Joshua sent them to their tents and blessed them, ⁸ he said to them, "Return to your tents with much wealth, and with very much livestock, with silver, gold, copper, iron, and with very much clothing; divide the war-booty of your enemies with your kinsmen."*

²⁰ And Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, and he said, "May Yahweh give you an offspring from this woman in place of the petitioned one that she requested from Yahweh." Then they went to their home.

¹⁸ When David had finished from the sacrificing of the burnt offerings and the fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh of hosts.

²⁰ When David returned to bless his household, Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David. She said, "How the king of Israel honored himself today _⌊by uncovering himself_⌋* before the eyes of the maids of his servants, _⌊as the total exposure of a worthless one_⌋."*

¹⁸ For a majority of the people, many from Ephraim, Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves. But they ate the Passover sacrifice _⌊otherwise than prescribed_⌋,* but Hezekiah had prayed for them, saying, "May the good Yahweh make atonement unto

³⁴ And Simeon blessed them and said to his mother Mary, "Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed*—

⁵⁰ And he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands, he blessed them.

⁶ But the one who did not trace his descent from them collected tithes from Abraham and blessed the one who had the promises. ⁷ Now without any dispute the inferior is blessed by the more prominent.

³³ So Moses gave to them, to the descendants* of Gad and the descendants* of Reuben, and to half of the tribe of Joseph's son Manasseh, the kingdom of Sihon the king of Amorites and the kingdom of Og the king of the Bashan, the land with its cities and their territories, the cities of the surrounding land.

²⁹ Moses gave an inheritance to the half-tribe of Manasseh; it was for the half-tribe of the descendants* of Manasseh according to their families. ³⁰ Their territory was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the settlements* of Jair, which are in Bashan, sixty cities, ³¹ and half of Gilead, with Ashtaroth, Edrei, and the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan; these were allotted to the children of Makir son of Manasseh, for half of the children of Makir according to their families.

¹ Then the allotment was made for the tribe of Manasseh, because he was the firstborn of Joseph. To Makir, the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, _⌊were allotted_⌋* Gilead and Bashan, because he was a warrior.* ² An allotment was made for the remaining descendants* of Manasseh, according to their families: For the children of Abiezer, Helek, Asriel, Shechem, Hepher, and Shemida—these were the male descendants* of Manasseh son of Joseph according to their families. ³ But Zelophehad son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Makir, son of Manasseh, had no sons, only daughters. These are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. ⁴ They came before Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the leaders, saying, "Yahweh commanded Moses to give an inheritance to us among our kinsmen."* Therefore, according to the _⌊command of Yahweh_⌋* he gave them an inheritance among the kinsmen* of their father. ⁵ Thus ten shares fell to Manasseh, besides the land of Gilead and Bashan, which is beyond the Jordan, ⁶ because the daughters of Manasseh received an inheritance among his sons. And the land of Gilead was allotted to the remaining descendants* of Manasseh. ⁷ The border of Manasseh was from Asher to Micmethath, which is opposite Shechem;* then the border goes to the south, to the inhabitants of En Tappuah. ⁸ The land of Tappuah _⌊belonged to Manasseh_⌋,* but Tuppuah on the border of Manasseh _⌊belonged to the descendants of Ephraim_⌋.* ⁹ Then the border goes down to the wadi* of Kanah to the south of the wadi. These cities belong to Ephraim among the cities of Manasseh. The border of Manasseh is north of the wadi, and _⌊it ends_⌋* at the sea. ¹⁰ The south is Ephraim's, and the north is Manasseh's; the sea is their* border; Asher touches the north and on the east Issachar. ¹¹ In Issachar and Asher, Manasseh had Beth-shean and its villages, Ibleam and its villages, the inhabitants of Dor and its villages, the inhabitants of En-dor and its villages, the inhabitants of Taanach and its villages, the inhabitants of Megiddo and its villages; the third is Napheth. ¹² But the descendants* of Manasseh were not able to take possession of these towns; the Canaanites* were determined to live in this land.

²⁷ divide the war-booty between those who engaged in the war, who went out to the battle, and all the community.

⁹ to a land where you may eat food in it _⌊without scarcity_⌋;* you will not find anything lacking in it, a land where its stones are iron and from its mountains you can mine copper. ¹⁰ And you will eat, and _⌊you will be satisfied_⌋,* and you will bless Yahweh your God because of the good land that he has given to you. ¹¹ "Take care for yourself so that you not forget Yahweh your God by not keeping his commandments and his regulations and his statutes that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋,* ¹² lest when you have eaten and you are satisfied and you have built good houses and you live in them, ¹³ and your herds and your flocks have multiplied, and _⌊you have accumulated silver and gold_⌋,* and all that _⌊you have_⌋* has multiplied, ¹⁴ then your heart _⌊becomes proud_⌋* and you forget Yahweh your God, _⌊the one who brought you out_⌋* from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery,

¹⁷ And you may think* in your heart, 'My strength and the might of my hand _⌊acquired this wealth for_⌋* me.' ¹⁸ But you must remember Yahweh your God, for he is the one giving you strength to acquire wealth in order to confirm his covenant that he swore to your ancestors* _⌊as it is today_⌋.*

¹⁶ So he took him down, and _⌊there they were_⌋,* spread out over the surface of all the land, eating and drinking and dancing because of all of the abundant plunder which they had taken from the land of the Philistines and from the land of Judah.

²⁴ And who would listen to you regarding this matter? For as the share of the one who went down into the battle, so the share of the one who remained with the baggage will be. They will share alike."

⁵ So Yahweh established the kingdom in his hand. And all Judah gave tribute to Jehoshaphat, and he had much wealth and honor.

²⁷ And Hezekiah had very much wealth and honor, and he made storehouses for himself for silver, gold, precious stones, spices, small shields, and all sorts of desirable objects;

¹² "The kings of armies flee, they flee, and she who remains at home divides the spoil.

¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.

⁵⁸ So then, my dear brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, because you* know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

²⁶ considering _⌊reproach endured for the sake of Christ_⌋* greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.

¹ The descendants* of Reuben and the descendants* of Gad had a very large number of livestock. And they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, and behold it was a place for livestock.

²⁶ Our little children, our wives, our livestock, and all of our animals* _⌊will remain_⌋* in the cities of Gilead,

²⁹ Moses said to them, "If the descendants* of Gad and the descendants* of Reuben, everyone who is armed for the war, cross over the Jordan _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, and the land is subdued before you, you will give them the land of Gilead as property.

³⁹ The descendants* of Makir son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and they captured it and drove out the Amorites* who were in it. ⁴⁰ So Moses gave Gilead to Makir son of Manasseh, and he lived in it.

¹⁵ And also I gave Gilead to Makir. ¹⁶ And to the Reubenites* and to the Gadites* I gave, from Gilead up to the wadi* of Arnon, the middle of the wadi* as a boundary and up to the Jabbok _⌊River_⌋,* the boundary of the _⌊Ammonites_⌋.*

¹¹ and Gilead, and the border of the Geshurite* and the Maacathites,* all of _⌊Mount Hermon_⌋,* and Bashan up to Salecah;

²⁵ Their territory was Jazer and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* up to Aroer, _⌊which is east of Rabbah_⌋;*

³¹ and half of Gilead, with Ashtaroth, Edrei, and the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan; these were allotted to the children of Makir son of Manasseh, for half of the children of Makir according to their families.

⁷ Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine, and Ephraim is the _⌊helmet for_⌋* my head; Judah is my scepter.*

¹⁸ And Jacob rose early in the morning, and he took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up as a stone pillar, and poured oil on top of it.

⁴⁶ And Jacob said to his kinsmen, "Gather stones." And they took stones and made a pile of stones, and they ate there by the pile of stones. ⁴⁷ And Laban called it Jegar Sahadutha,* but Jacob called it Galeed.* ⁴⁸ Then Laban said, "This pile of stones is a witness between me and you today." Therefore its name is called Galeed,* ⁴⁹ and Mizpah,* because he said, "Yahweh watch between me and you when _⌊we are out of sight of each other_⌋.* ⁵⁰ If you mistreat my daughters, and if you take wives besides my daughters, when there is no man with us, see—God is a witness between me and you." ⁵¹ And Laban said to Jacob, "See, this pile of stones, and see the pillar that I have set up between me and you. ⁵² This pile of stones is a witness, and the pillar is a witness, that I will not pass beyond this pile of stones to you, and that you will not pass beyond this pile of stones and this pillar to me intending harm.

⁵ And Joshua said to them, "Cross over before* the ark of Yahweh your God to the middle of the Jordan, and each one of you lift up a stone on your* shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* ⁶ so that this may be a reminder* among you. When your children ask in the future, saying, '_⌊What do these stones mean to you_⌋?'* ⁷ you will say to them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off _⌊from before_⌋* the ark of the covenant of Yahweh. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones will be as a memorial for the _⌊Israelites_⌋* for eternity." ⁸ Thus the _⌊Israelites_⌋* did as Joshua commanded. They took twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan as Yahweh told Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and they carried them over with them to _⌊the camp_⌋,* and they put them there. ⁹ Then Joshua set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests carrying the ark of the covenant stood, and they are there to this day.

²⁵ Yahweh has made the Jordan a border between us and you, the descendants* of Reuben and Gad; you have no portion in Yahweh.' So your children may put an end to our children worshiping* Yahweh. ²⁶ So we said, 'Let us build immediately for ourselves an altar, not for burnt offerings* or for sacrifices;* ²⁷ instead, it is a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us for performing the serving of Yahweh in his presence with our burnt offerings, sacrifices, and fellowship offerings; so that your children may not say in the future to our children, "You have no portion in Yahweh." ' ²⁸ And we thought, if they say to us and to our children in the future, we can say, 'Look at this replica of the altar of Yahweh, which our ancestors* made, not for burnt offerings* or sacrifices;* rather, it is a witness between us and you.'

²⁶ Then Joshua wrote these words in a scroll of the law of God, and he took a large stone and set it up there under a large tree, which is at the shrine of Yahweh. ²⁷ And Joshua said to all the people, "Look, this stone will be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words of Yahweh that he spoke with us. It will be as a witness against you, so that you do not deny your God."

⁸ "And you shall say to them, 'if there is _⌊anyone_⌋* from the house of Israel or* from the alien who dwells in their midst who offers a burnt offering or a sacrifice ⁹ and he does not bring it to the tent of assembly's entrance to _⌊sacrifice_⌋* it for Yahweh, then* that man shall be cut off from his people.

⁵ _⌊But only_⌋* to the place that Yahweh your God will choose from all of your tribes to place his name there as his dwelling shall you seek, and there you shall go. ⁶ And you shall bring there your burnt offerings and your sacrifices and your tithes and _⌊your donations_⌋* and your votive gifts and your freewill offerings and the firstling of your herd and your flock. ⁷ And you shall eat there _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God, and you shall rejoice _⌊in all your endeavors_⌋,* you and your family in which Yahweh your God has blessed you.

¹² "If you hear in one of your towns which Yahweh your God is giving to you to live in, someone _⌊saying that_⌋* ¹³ _⌊worthless men_⌋* have gone out from your midst and have seduced the inhabitants of their town, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Let us go and serve other gods!' whom you have not known, ¹⁴ then you shall inquire and examine and interrogate thoroughly, and, look! It is true; the thing has actually been done, this detestable thing in your midst,

⁷ So the men chased after them on _⌊the way to the Jordan_⌋* at the fords; and they shut the gate behind the pursuers that had gone out after them.

¹⁴ And it happened, when the people set out from their tents to cross over the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant were _⌊ahead of the people_⌋.* ¹⁵ When those carrying the ark came up to the Jordan, and the priests carrying the ark dipped their feet in the edge of the water (the Jordan was flowing over its banks during all the days of harvest), ¹⁶ the waters flowing down from above stood still; they stood up in one heap very far from Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan, while the waters flowing down to the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea,* _⌊were completely cut off_⌋;* and the people crossed over opposite Jericho.

⁵ Then Gilead captured the fords of the Jordan from Ephraim, and whenever a fugitive of Ephraim said, "Let me cross over," the men of Gilead said to him, "Are you an Ephraimite?" When he said, "No,"

²⁸ These things took place in Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

¹ Now on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it* was still dark, and saw the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

¹² and she saw two angels in white, seated one at the head and one at the feet where the body of Jesus had been lying.

¹⁵ then you shall certainly strike down the inhabitants of that town with the _⌊edge_⌋* of the sword; you shall destroy it and everything in it, its domestic animals with the _⌊edge_⌋* of the sword.

¹ The entire congregation of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* assembled at Shiloh, and they set up there the tent of meeting, and the land was subdued before them.*

¹ All the _⌊Israelites_⌋* went out, from Dan to Beersheba, including the land of Gilead, and they gathered as one body* to Yahweh at Mizpah. ² And the leaders of all the people, all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand sword-bearing infantry. ³ (The descendants* of Benjamin heard that the _⌊Israelites_⌋* had gone up to Mizpah.) And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* said, "Tell us, how did this evil act occur?" ⁴ The Levite, the husband of the murdered woman, answered and said, "I came to Gibeah, which belongs to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to spend the night. ⁵ The lords of Gibeah rose up against me and surrounded the house at night. They intended to kill me, and they raped my concubine, and she died. ⁶ Then I grabbed my concubine and cut her into pieces, and I sent her throughout all the territory of Israel's inheritance; for they committed a shameful and disgraceful thing in Israel. ⁷ Look, all you _⌊Israelites_⌋!* _⌊Make your decision_⌋* and advice here." ⁸ All the people got up as one body,* saying, "Not one of us will go to his tent, or will any of us return to his house. ⁹ So then, this is what we will do to Gibeah: we will go up against her by lot. ¹⁰ We will take ten men of one hundred from all the tribes of Israel, and one hundred of one thousand, and one thousand of ten thousand, to bring provisions to the troops, to repay them when they come to Gibeah* of Benjamin for all the disgraceful things* they did in Israel." ¹¹ And all the men of Israel were gathered to the city as one body* united.

² So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision took issue with him, ³ saying, "You went to men _⌊who were uncircumcised_⌋* and ate with them!"

² For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

¹⁷ They zealously seek you, not commendably, but they want to exclude you, in order that you may seek them zealously. ¹⁸ But it is good to be sought zealously in good at all times, and not only when I am present with you.

²⁵ And Eleazar the son of Aaron took for himself one from the daughters of Putiel as a wife, and she bore for him Phinehas. These are the heads of the _⌊families_⌋* of the Levites according to their clans.

⁷ When Phinehas son of Eleazar son of Aaron the priest saw, he got up from the midst of the community and took a spear in his hand.

¹¹ "Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, turned away my anger from among the _⌊Israelites_⌋* when he was jealous with my jealousy in their midst, and I did not destroy the _⌊Israelites_⌋* with my jealousy. ¹² Therefore say, 'Behold, I am giving to him my covenant of peace, ¹³ and it will be for him and his _⌊offspring_⌋* after him a covenant of an eternal priesthood because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the _⌊Israelites_⌋.'"*

¹⁴ then you shall inquire and examine and interrogate thoroughly, and, look! It is true; the thing has actually been done, this detestable thing in your midst,

¹² Then the tribes of Israel sent men throughout all the tribes of Benjamin, saying, "What is this wickedness that happened among you?

²⁸ and Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron, was standing _⌊before it_⌋* to minister in those days), saying, "Should we go out once more to battle against the descendants* of Benjamin our relatives,* or should we stop?" And Yahweh said, "Go up tomorrow; I will give them* into your hand."

³⁰ Then Phinehas stood up and intervened, and so the plague was stopped, ³¹ and it was reckoned to him as righteousness _⌊throughout all generations_⌋.*

¹⁸ A plan* will be established by advice, and with guidance make war.

⁹ Argue your argument with your neighbor himself, the secret of another do not disclose, ¹⁰ lest he who hears shame you and your ill repute will not end. ¹¹ Apples of gold in a setting of silver is a matter spoken at* its proper time. ¹² A ring of gold and an ornament of fine gold is a rebuke of the wise to the ear of a listener. ¹³ Like the cold of snow on a day* of harvest is a faithful messenger to those who send him, and the soul* of his master is refreshed.*

¹⁵ "Now if your brother sins against you, go correct him between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.

²⁵ And Moses chose men of ability from all Israel, and he appointed them as heads over the people, as commanders of thousands, commanders of hundreds, commanders of fifties, and commanders of tens.

⁴ A man from each tribe will be with you, each man the head of _⌊his family_⌋.*

⁸ They have turned aside quickly from the way that I commanded them; they have made for themselves a cast-image bull calf, and they bowed to it, and they sacrificed to it, and they said, 'These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.'"

¹⁹ It is a guilt offering; he certainly was guilty before Yahweh."

⁴⁰ " 'But* when they confess their guilt and the guilt of their ancestors* in their infidelity that they displayed against me, and moreover that they went against me in hostility—

⁶ "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋:* 'When a man or woman _⌊commits_⌋* any of the sins of humankind by acting unfaithfully, it is a sin against Yahweh, and that person will be guilty;

⁴³ because the Amalekites* and the Canaanites* are there _⌊before you_⌋,* and you will fall by the sword; because you have turned back from Yahweh, and Yahweh will not be with you."

¹⁵ If you turn from following him, he will again abandon them* in the wilderness, and you would have destroyed all these people."

⁴ For their* sons and daughters will cause your son* to turn away _⌊from following me_⌋,* and so they will serve other gods, and _⌊the anger of Yahweh would be kindled_⌋* against you, and he would quickly destroy you.

⁴ You shall not worship Yahweh your God like this. ⁵ _⌊But only_⌋* to the place that Yahweh your God will choose from all of your tribes to place his name there as his dwelling shall you seek, and there you shall go. ⁶ And you shall bring there your burnt offerings and your sacrifices and your tithes and _⌊your donations_⌋* and your votive gifts and your freewill offerings and the firstling of your herd and your flock.

¹³ "Take care for yourself so that you do not offer your burnt offerings at just any place that you happen to see, ¹⁴ _⌊but only_⌋* at the place that Yahweh will choose among one of your tribes; there you shall offer your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all the things that I am commanding you.

¹⁷ However, if your heart turns aside and you do not listen and you are lured away and you bow down to other gods and you serve them,

¹² When the _⌊Israelites_⌋* heard of it, the whole congregation of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* gathered at Shiloh to go up against them for battle.

¹⁸ that you must turn today from following Yahweh? If you rebel today against Yahweh, tomorrow he will be angry with all of the congregation of Israel;

²³ For rebellion is like the sin of divination; arrogance is like iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of Yahweh, he has rejected you from being king!"

³ But Joab said, "May Yahweh add to the people a hundred times what they are! Are they not, O my lord the king, all of them the king's servants? Why does my lord seek this? Why would he bring guilt to Israel?"

¹⁹ So Israel has rebelled against the house of David until this day.

²⁷ And from the time that Amaziah turned away from Yahweh, they had plotted a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem. And he fled to Lachish, but they sent after him to Lachish and killed him there.

¹⁸ And they stood against King Uzziah and said to him, "It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to Yahweh, but it is for the priests, the descendants* of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Go out of the sanctuary, for you have acted unfaithfully. There will be no honor for you from Yahweh God."

¹³ And they said to them, "You shall not bring the captives here, for it is as guilt against Yahweh upon us. You yourselves plan to add to our sins and to our guilt, but our guilt is very great, and there is great anger against Israel."

² For they have taken from their daughters for themselves and their sons. So the holy seed has mixed itself with the peoples of the lands, and the hand of the officials and prefects were foremost in this sin.

¹⁵ Yahweh, God of Israel, you are righteous, for we have been left this day as a remnant. Here we are before you in our guilt, for none can stand before you because of this."

⁸ and not be like their ancestors,* a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not make ready its heart, whose spirit was not faithful to God.

¹⁰ But* they _⌊were the ones who_⌋* rebelled, and they grieved _⌊his Holy Spirit_⌋,* so* he _⌊became an enemy to them_⌋;* he himself fought against them.

¹⁴ For if you forgive people their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. ¹⁵ But if you do not forgive people, neither will your Father forgive your sins.

¹⁷ And if he refuses to listen to them, tell it* to the church. But if he refuses to listen to the church also, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.

¹⁰ Now I exhort you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all say the same thing and there not be divisions among you, and that you be made complete in the same mind and with the same purpose.

⁴ In the name of our Lord Jesus, when* you are assembled, and my spirit, together with the power of our Lord Jesus,

¹ Paul, an apostle not from men nor by men but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him from the dead, ² and all the brothers with me, to the churches of Galatia.

²⁵ Watch out that you do not refuse the one who is speaking! For if those did not escape when they* refused the one who warned them on earth, much less will we escape,* if we* reject the one who warns from heaven,

¹ When Israel dwelled in Shittim, the people began to prostitute* themselves with the daughters of Moab. ² And they invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and worshiped their gods. ³ So Israel was joined together to Baal Peor, and _⌊Yahweh became angry_⌋* with Israel. ⁴ Yahweh said to Moses, "Take all _⌊the leaders_⌋* of the people and kill them before the sun, so the fierce anger of Yahweh will turn from Israel." ⁵ So Moses said to the judges of Israel, "Each of you kill his men who are joined together with Baal Peor." ⁶ And behold, a man from the _⌊Israelites_⌋* came and brought to his brothers a Midianite woman before the eyes of Moses and before the eyes of all of the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and they were weeping at the doorway of the tent of assembly. ⁷ When Phinehas son of Eleazar son of Aaron the priest saw, he got up from the midst of the community and took a spear in his hand. ⁸ He went after the man of Israel into the woman's section of the tent, and he drove the two of them, the man of Israel and the woman, into her belly. And the plague among the _⌊Israelites_⌋* stopped. ⁹ The ones who died in the plague were twenty-four thousand. ¹⁰ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ¹¹ "Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, turned away my anger from among the _⌊Israelites_⌋* when he was jealous with my jealousy in their midst, and I did not destroy the _⌊Israelites_⌋* with my jealousy. ¹² Therefore say, 'Behold, I am giving to him my covenant of peace, ¹³ and it will be for him and his _⌊offspring_⌋* after him a covenant of an eternal priesthood because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the _⌊Israelites_⌋.'"* ¹⁴ The name of the man of Israel who was struck with the Midianite woman was Zimri son of Salu, a leader of _⌊the family_⌋* of the Simeonites.* ¹⁵ The name of the Midianite woman who was struck was Cozbi daughter of Zur, _⌊a leader_⌋* of a tribe of _⌊the family_⌋* in Midian. ¹⁶ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁷ "Attack the Midianites and strike them ¹⁸ because they were attacking you with their deception, with which they have deceived you on the matter of Peor and on the matter of Cozbi the daughter of the leader of Midian, their sister who was struck on the day of the plague because of the matter of Peor."

³ Your eyes have seen* what Yahweh did with* the case of Baal Peor, for _⌊each_⌋* man that followed after Baal Peor Yahweh your God destroyed from your midst. ⁴ But you, the ones holding fast to Yahweh your God, are all alive _⌊today_⌋.*

¹³ After all that has come upon us for our evil practices and for our great guilt—you, our God, have held back less than our guilt deserved and you have given us a remainder such as this. ¹⁴ Shall we again break your commandments and intermarry with the peoples who practice these detestable things? Would you not be angry with us until you destroy us with no remnant or remainder?

²⁸ They also attached themselves to Baal of Peor, and they ate sacrifices offered to the dead.* ²⁹ Thus they provoked to anger by their deeds, and a plague broke out among them.

⁸ nor commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed sexual immorality, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day,

¹¹ Now these things happened to those people as an example, but are written for our instruction, on whom the ends of the ages have come.

²² And they fell on their faces, and they said, "God, God of the spirits of all flesh, will one man sin and you become angry toward the entire community?"

¹ But the _⌊Israelites_⌋* broke faith concerning the devoted things.* Achan son of Carmi son of Zabdi son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took from the devoted things;* and _⌊Yahweh's anger was kindled_⌋* against the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

¹¹ Israel has sinned and _⌊transgressed my covenant_⌋* that I commanded them. They have taken from the devoted things;* they have stolen and acted deceitfully, and they have put them among their belongings.

²¹ I saw among the spoil a beautiful robe from Shinar,* two hundred shekels of silver, and one bar of gold that weighed fifty shekels; I coveted them and took them. They are hidden in the ground inside my tent, and the silver is under it."

¹⁶ "Thus says all the congregation of Yahweh: 'What is this treachery that you have committed against the God of Israel by turning away today from following Yahweh, by building for yourselves an altar to rebel today against Yahweh?

²⁰ Did not Achan son of Zerah commit treachery with devoted things,* and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? _⌊And he alone_⌋* did not perish because of his iniquity.'"

¹⁴ If you will fear Yahweh, and serve him, and listen to his voice, and not be rebellious against _⌊what Yahweh says_⌋,* and both you and the king who rules over you will follow after Yahweh your God, all will be well.

¹ Again Yahweh was angry with Israel, and he* incited David against them, saying, "Go count Israel and Judah."

⁶ "If ever you or any of your descendants* turn from following me and do not keep my commandments and my ordinances that I have set before you and you go and serve other gods and bow down to them,

²¹ For he had torn Israel from the house of David, and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king, but Jeroboam detached Israel from following Yahweh, and he made them sin a great sin.

¹ Then Satan* stood against Israel and urged David to count Israel.

¹⁴ So Yahweh sent a pestilence through Israel, and seventy thousand men from Israel fell.

³³ And Josiah removed all the detestable things from the whole land that belonged to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* and obligated* all who were found in Israel to serve Yahweh their God. All his days they did not turn aside from following* Yahweh, the God of their ancestors.*

¹⁷ You brought them and planted them on the mountain of your inheritance, a place you made for yourself to inhabit, Yahweh, a sanctuary, Lord, that your hands established.

²⁵ So* the land became unclean, and _⌊I have brought the punishment of_⌋* its guilt upon it, and the land has vomited out its inhabitants. ²⁶ But* you (neither the native nor* the alien who is dwelling in your midst) shall keep my statutes and my regulations, and you shall not _⌊practice_⌋* any of these detestable things ²⁷ (because the people of the land, who were _⌊before you_⌋,* did all these detestable things, so the land became unclean), ²⁸ so that the land will not vomit you out when you make it unclean just as it vomited out the nation that was _⌊before you_⌋.*

¹³ Now the priests and the Levites who were throughout all Israel took their stand with him* from all their territories.

¹⁶ Then after them, from all the tribes of Israel, those who set their heart to seek Yahweh, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to offer to Yahweh, the God of their ancestors.* ¹⁷ And they strengthened the kingdom of Judah and made Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, secure for three years, for they walked in the way of David and Solomon for three years.

¹⁷ Therefore, thus says Yahweh, 'Your wife will become a prostitute in the city and your sons and your daughters will fall by the sword and your land will be divided with a line, and you* will die in an unclean land and Israel will surely go into exile from this land.'"

¹⁴ But Peter said, "Certainly not, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common and unclean!" ¹⁵ And the voice came again to him for the second time: "The things which God has made clean, you must not consider unclean!"

⁸ But I said, 'Certainly not, Lord! For nothing common or unclean has ever entered into my mouth!' ⁹ But the voice replied from heaven for the second time, 'The things which God has made clean, you must not consider unclean!'

⁵ The men of Ai killed about thirty-six of them, and they chased them from the gate up to Shebarim and killed them on the slope. And the hearts* of the people melted and became like water.

¹⁸ He brought forward his family, one by one, and Achan son of Carmi son of Zabdi son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was selected by lot.

²⁴ Then Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the bar of gold, his sons and daughters, his cattle and donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and everything that was his, and they brought them to the valley of Achor.*

⁶ Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we should not be desirers of evil things, just as those also desired them,

⁶ and condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction, reducing them to ashes, having appointed them as an example for those who are going to be ungodly,

⁵ Now I want to remind you, although you know everything once and for all,* that Jesus,* having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, the second time destroyed those who did not believe. ⁶ And the angels who did not keep to their own domain but deserted their proper dwelling place, he has kept in eternal bonds under deep gloom for the judgment of the great day,

²¹ And you will select from all the people men of ability, fearers of God, trustworthy men, haters of dishonest gain,* and you will appoint such men over them as commanders of thousands, commanders of hundreds, commanders of fifties, and commanders of tens. ²² And let them judge the people all the time, _⌊and_⌋* every major issue they will bring to you, and every minor issue they will judge themselves. And so lighten it for yourself, and they will bear it with you. ²³ If you will do this thing and God will command you, then you will be able to endure, and also each of the people will go to his home* in peace." ²⁴ And Moses listened to the voice of his father-in-law, and he did all that he had said. ²⁵ And Moses chose men of ability from all Israel, and he appointed them as heads over the people, as commanders of thousands, commanders of hundreds, commanders of fifties, and commanders of tens.

¹ A soft answer will turn away wrath, but a word of trouble will stir _⌊anger_⌋.*

¹ To mortals belong the plans of the heart, but from Yahweh comes the answer of the tongue.

¹³ He who returns a word before he will hear, folly itself belongs to him as well as* shame.

²⁶ He will kiss the lips, he who gives an honest answer.

² But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, too small to be among the clans of Judah, from you one will go out for me, to be ruler in Israel; and his origins are from of old, from ancient days.

⁴ But Peter began and* explained it* to them in an orderly sequence, saying,

¹⁹ Understand this, my dear brothers: every person must be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger,

¹⁵ but set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts, always ready to make a defense to anyone who asks you for an accounting concerning the hope that is in you.

¹¹ Now I know that Yahweh is greater than all the gods, _⌊even in the matter where they the Egyptians dealt arrogantly against the Israelites_⌋."*

¹⁷ For Yahweh your God, he is God of the gods and Lord of the lords, the great and mighty God, the awesome one who _⌊is not partial_⌋,* and he does not take bribes.

³⁹ then you shall hear in heaven the place of your dwelling, and you shall forgive and act and give to the man whose heart you know, according to all his ways, for you alone know the heart of all the sons of man.

⁷ because of your knowledge that I am not guilty, and there is no escaping from your hand?

¹⁰ But he knows _⌊the way that I take_⌋;* he tests me—I shall come out like gold.

⁵ "If I have walked with falseness, and my foot has hastened to deceit, ⁶ let him weigh me in the balance of justice, and let God know my blamelessness. ⁷ If my steps have turned aside from the way, and my heart has walked after my eyes, and my hand has clung to a spot, ⁸ let me sow, and let another eat, and let my crops be rooted out.

³⁸ If my land has cried out against me, and its furrows have wept together, ³⁹ if I have eaten its yield without payment, or* I have caused the breath of its owners to die, ⁴⁰ let thorns grow in place of wheat and noxious weeds in place of barley." The words of Job are ended.

³ O Yahweh, my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands, ⁴ if I have repaid _⌊my ally_⌋* with harm, or if I have plundered my enemy without cause, ⁵ let the enemy of my soul pursue, and overtake and trample my life into the ground, and lay my honor in the dust. Selah

⁶ Then he will bring forth your righteousness like the light, and your justice like the noonday.

²¹ would not God discover this, for he knows the secrets of the heart?

O Yahweh, you have searched me, and you know me. ² You know my sitting down and my rising up. You understand my thought from afar. ³ You search out* my wandering and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. ⁴ For there is not a word yet on my tongue, but behold, O Yahweh, you know it completely. ⁵ You barricade me behind and in front, and set your hand upon me. ⁶ Such knowledge is too wonderful for me. It is set high; I cannot prevail against it. ⁷ Where I can go from your Spirit, or where can I flee from your presence? ⁸ If I ascend to heaven, there you are, and if I make my bed in Sheol, look! There you are. ⁹ If I lift up the wings of the dawn, and I alight on the far side of the sea, ¹⁰ even there your hand would lead me, and your right hand would hold me fast. ¹¹ And if I should say, "Surely darkness will cover me, and the light around me will be as night," ¹² even the darkness is not too dark for you,* and the night shines as the day— the darkness and the light are alike for you.

³ But you, O Yahweh, you know me, you see me, and you test that my heart is with you. Tear them apart like sheep for the slaughtering, and set them apart for the day of slaughter.

¹⁰ I, Yahweh, examine the _⌊mind_⌋,* I test the _⌊heart_⌋,* and give to each one according to his way, according to the fruit of his deeds.

⁴⁷ The king answered Daniel and said, "_⌊Truly_⌋* your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings, and he reveals mysteries, for you are able to reveal this mystery."

³⁶ "Then the king will do _⌊as he pleases_⌋,* and he will exalt himself and will consider himself above any god, and he will speak horrendous things _⌊against_⌋* the God of gods, yet he will succeed until the period of anger is finished, for what is determined will be done.

⁹ I will bear the rage of Yahweh, for I have sinned against him, until he pleads my cause and executes my justice. He will bring me out to the light; I will see his righteousness.

¹⁸ You will return and see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between the one who serves God and the one who does not serve him.

²⁴ But Jesus himself did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people,* ²⁵ and because he did not _⌊need_⌋* anyone _⌊to testify_⌋* about man, for he himself knew what was in man.*

¹⁷ He said to him a third time, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was distressed because he said to him a third time, "Do you love me?" and he said to him, "Lord, you know everything! You know that I love you!" Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep!

²⁴ And they prayed and* said, "You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show clearly which one of these two you have chosen

² So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision took issue with him, ³ saying, "You went to men _⌊who were uncircumcised_⌋* and ate with them!" ⁴ But Peter began and* explained it* to them in an orderly sequence, saying, ⁵ "I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision—an object something like a large sheet coming down, being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came to me. ⁶ As I* looked intently into it, I was considering it,* and I saw the four-footed animals of the earth and the wild animals and the reptiles and the birds of the sky. ⁷ And I also heard a voice saying to me, 'Get up, Peter, slaughter and eat!' ⁸ But I said, 'Certainly not, Lord! For nothing common or unclean has ever entered into my mouth!' ⁹ But the voice replied from heaven for the second time, 'The things which God has made clean, you must not consider unclean!' ¹⁰ And this happened three times, and everything was pulled up into heaven again. ¹¹ And behold, at once three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea approached the house in which we were staying.* ¹² And the Spirit told me to accompany them, not hesitating at all. So these six brothers also went with me, and we entered into the man's house. ¹³ And he reported to us how he had seen the angel standing in his house and saying, 'Send to Joppa and summon Simon, who is also called Peter, ¹⁴ who will speak words to you by which you will be saved, you and all your household.' ¹⁵ And as I was beginning to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, just as also on us at the beginning. ¹⁶ And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'* ¹⁷ Therefore if God gave them the same gift as also to us when we* believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to be able to hinder God?" ¹⁸ And when they* heard these things, they became silent* and praised God, saying, "Then God has granted the repentance leading to life to the Gentiles also!"

¹¹ If then I am doing wrong* and have done anything deserving death, I am not trying to avoid* dying. But if there is nothing true of the things which these people are accusing me, no one can give me up to them. I appeal to Caesar!"

¹¹ Therefore, because we* know the fear of the Lord, we are attempting to persuade people, but we are revealed to God, and I hope to be revealed in your consciences.

¹¹ _⌊Why_⌋*? Because I do not love you? God knows I do!

³¹ The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who is blessed _⌊forever_⌋*, knows that I am not lying.

¹⁶ the one who alone possesses immortality, who lives in unapproachable light, whom no human being has seen nor is able to see, to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen.

¹³ And no creature is hidden in the sight of him, but all things are naked and laid bare to the eyes of him to whom _⌊we must give our account_⌋*.

²³ And I will kill her children with deadly disease, and all the churches will know that I am the one who searches minds and hearts, and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.

¹⁶ And he has a name written on his outer garment and on his thigh: "King of kings and Lord of lords."

⁴ Only you shall not eat _⌊raw flesh with blood in it_⌋.*

¹¹ _⌊and then_⌋* at the place that Yahweh your God will choose, to let his name dwell there, there you shall bring all the things I am commanding you, your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and _⌊your donations_⌋,* and all of the choice things, your votive gifts that you vow to Yahweh.

¹⁹ _⌊And then_⌋* the man that will not listen to my words that he shall speak in my name, I will hold accountable.

¹⁶ So Jonathan _⌊made a covenant_⌋* with the house of David, saying, "May Yahweh _⌊call the enemies of David to account_⌋."*

²² So King Joash did not remember the loyal love that Jehoiada had shown to him, and he killed his son. And as he was dying he said, "May Yahweh see and avenge!"

¹³ Why does the wicked treat God with contempt? He says in his heart, "You will not call me to account." ¹⁴ But you have seen; indeed you have noted trouble and grief to take it into your hand. The helpless abandons himself upon you; you have been the helper for the orphan.

¹⁸ _⌊When I say_⌋* to the wicked, 'Surely you will die,' and you do not warn him and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way _⌊so that he may live_⌋,* that wicked person will die because of his guilt, and from your hand I will seek his blood.

⁶ And as for the watchman, if he sees the sword coming and _⌊he does not blow_⌋* the horn, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and it takes _⌊their lives_⌋,* he will be taken through his guilt, but his blood from the hand of the watchman I will seek.'

⁸ _⌊When I say_⌋* to the wicked, 'Wicked one, you will certainly die,' and you _⌊did not speak_⌋* to warn the wicked from his way, he, the wicked, will die by his guilt, but his blood I will seek from your hand.

¹⁹ For I have chosen* him, that he will command his children and his household after him that they will keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice, so that Yahweh may bring upon Abraham that which he said to him."

³³ And my righteousness will answer for me _⌊later_⌋* when you come concerning my wages before you. Every one that is not speckled or spotted among the goats, or dark-colored among the sheep shall be stolen if it is with me."

¹⁴ And when your son asks you _⌊in the future_⌋,* saying, 'What is this?' you will say to him, 'With strength of hand Yahweh brought us out from Egypt, from a house of slaves.

²⁰ "When your child* asks you in the future, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'What is the meaning of the legal provisions and the rules and the regulations that Yahweh our God commanded for you?'

⁶ so that this may be a reminder* among you. When your children ask in the future, saying, '_⌊What do these stones mean to you_⌋?'*

²⁷ instead, it is a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us for performing the serving of Yahweh in his presence with our burnt offerings, sacrifices, and fellowship offerings; so that your children may not say in the future to our children, "You have no portion in Yahweh." '

¹⁹ And so then, please let my lord the king listen to the words of his servant: If Yahweh has incited you against me, may he delight in an offering; but if _⌊it is mortals_⌋,* may they be accursed _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, for they have driven me away today from sharing in the inheritance of Yahweh, saying, 'Go, serve other gods!'

¹ Now a man of wickedness was found there whose name was Sheba the son of Bichri, a Benjaminite. He blew the horn and said, "There is no share for us in David, and there is no inheritance for us in the son of Jesse; each to his tents, O Israel!"

¹⁶ When all of Israel saw that the king would not listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, "_⌊What share do we have in David_⌋?* There is no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, Israel! Now look to your house, David!" Then Israel went to their* tents.

²⁷ if this people go up to offer sacrifices in the house* of Yahweh in Jerusalem. The heart of this people will return to their master Rehoboam the king of Judah, and they shall kill me and _⌊return to him_⌋."* ²⁸ And the king had decided, so he made two golden calves and he said to them,* "_⌊You have been going up to Jerusalem long enough_⌋;* here are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt." ²⁹ He put one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan. ³⁰ This thing became a sin, and the people walked before the one as far as Dan.

¹⁶ He will give up Israel because of the sin of Jeroboam which he sinned and which he caused Israel to sin."

³⁰ because of the sins of Jeroboam that he had committed and that he had caused Israel to commit and because of his anger with which he had provoked Yahweh the God of Israel.

² And they approached Zerubbabel and the heads of the _⌊families_⌋,* and they said to them, "Let us build with you. Like you, we seek your God and have been sacrificing to him from the days of Esarhaddon the king of Assyria who brought us up here. ³ But Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of the _⌊families_⌋* of Israel said to them, "It is not for you but for us to build a house for our God. For we ourselves alone will build it for Yahweh the God of Israel, just as Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us."

²⁰ Then I answered and said to them, "The God of the heavens himself will let us succeed, and we his servants shall arise and build. But for you there is no share, right, or memorial in Jerusalem."

²¹ _⌊You have no_⌋* part or share in this matter, because your heart is not right before God.

⁴⁸ Then Laban said, "This pile of stones is a witness between me and you today." Therefore its name is called Galeed,*

⁵² This pile of stones is a witness, and the pillar is a witness, that I will not pass beyond this pile of stones to you, and that you will not pass beyond this pile of stones and this pillar to me intending harm.

¹⁷ You are not allowed to eat in your _⌊towns_⌋* the tithe of your grain and your wine and your olive oil and the firstborn of your herd and your flock and all of your votive gifts that you vowed and your freewill offering and _⌊your donations_⌋.* ¹⁸ But only _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God you shall eat it, at the place that Yahweh your God will choose,* you and your son and your daughter and your slave and your slave woman and the Levite who is in your _⌊towns_⌋,* and you must rejoice _⌊before_⌋* your God _⌊in all your undertakings_⌋.*

²⁶ Only your holy objects _⌊that are yours_⌋* and your votive gifts you must carry and you must bring to the place that Yahweh will choose. ²⁷ And you shall offer your burnt offerings, the flesh and the blood on the altar of Yahweh your God, and the blood of your sacrifices you shall pour out on the altar of Yahweh your God, but the meat you may eat.

¹⁰ And they came to the region of the Jordan that is in the land of Canaan, and the descendants* of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an altar on the Jordan, _⌊a large and imposing altar_⌋.*

³⁴ The descendants* of Reuben and Gad called the altar Witness, "Because," they said, "it is a witness between us that Yahweh is God."

²⁷ And Joshua said to all the people, "Look, this stone will be a witness against us, for it has heard all the words of Yahweh that he spoke with us. It will be as a witness against you, so that you do not deny your God."

¹² So Samuel took a single stone and put it between Mizpah and Shen, and he named it Ebenezer and said, "Up to here Yahweh has helped us."

⁴⁰ And see and make all according to their pattern, which you were shown in the mountain.

¹⁰ So King Ahaz went to meet Tiglath-Pileser the king of Assyria in Damascus, and he saw the altar which was in Damascus, so King Ahaz sent to Uriah the priest the builder's plan of the altar and the _⌊exact model of how it had been made_⌋.*

¹⁰ You, son of man,* describe to the house of Israel the temple and let them be ashamed of their iniquities and let them measure the pattern. ¹¹ And if they are ashamed of all that they did, then the plan of the temple and its arrangement and its exits and its entrances and all of its plans* and all of its statutes. And all of its plans* and all of its laws* make known to them and write them before their eyes, so that they may remember all of its plans and all of its statutes, so that they do them!

⁵ who serve a sketch and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses was warned when he* was about to complete the tabernacle, for he says, "See to it that you make everything according to the pattern which was shown to you on the mountain."*

⁷ And they said to him, "Why has my lord spoken according to these words? Far be it from your servants to do such a thing!

¹⁷ But he said, "Far be it from me to do this! The man in whose hand the cup was found, he will become my slave. But as for you, go up in peace to your father."

²³ for building for ourselves an altar to turn away from Yahweh, or if it was to offer burnt offerings,* grain offerings,* or fellowship offerings on it, may Yahweh himself take vengeance.

²⁶ So we said, 'Let us build immediately for ourselves an altar, not for burnt offerings* or for sacrifices;*

¹⁶ And the people answered and said, "Far be it from us that we would forsake Yahweh to serve other gods,

²³ Also, as for me, far be it from me _⌊that I should sin_⌋* against Yahweh by ceasing to pray for you! I will instruct you in the good and righteous way.

³ Naboth said to Ahab, "Far be it from me from Yahweh that I should give the inheritance of my ancestors* to you."

²² But if you say to me, 'On Yahweh our God we trust,' is it not he whose high places and altars Hezekiah removed, and he had said to Judah and to Jerusalem, 'In the presence of this altar you shall bow down only in Jerusalem?'

¹² Has not Hezekiah himself removed his high places and his altars and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, saying, "You must bow down before one altar and upon it you must make offerings"?

⁶ May it never be! For otherwise, how will God judge the world?

² May it never be! How can we who died to sin still live in it?

¹⁴ What then shall we say? There is no injustice with God, is there?* May it never be!

⁸ Then Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan were evil in the eyes of Isaac his father,

³³ _⌊The report satisfied the Israelites_⌋;* they blessed God, and they did not speak of going up for battle against them to destroy the land in which the descendants* of Reuben and Gad were living.*

³ God has given into your hand the commanders of Midian, Oreb, and Zeeb. What have I been able to do in comparison with you?" And their _⌊anger_⌋* against him subsided when _⌊he said that_⌋.*

³² Then David said to Abigail, "Blessed be Yahweh the God of Israel who has sent you this day to meet me! ³³ And blessed be your discretion, and blessed be you who have prevented me this day from bloodguilt and from delivering myself by my own hand.

⁶ So Achish called David and said to him, "_⌊As Yahweh lives_⌋,* certainly you were honest, and _⌊I am pleased to have you marching with me_⌋* in the campaign.* For I have not found any wrong in you from the day you came to me until this day, but in the eyes of the rulers, you are not good.

⁴ and the plan seemed right in the eyes of the king and in the eyes of all the assembly.

²¹ _⌊This advice pleased the king_⌋* and the officials, and the king acted according to the word of Memucan.

¹⁸ And when they* heard these things, they became silent* and praised God, saying, "Then God has granted the repentance leading to life to the Gentiles also!"

¹¹ And I will put my dwelling place in your midst, and my inner self* shall not abhor you. ¹² And I will walk about in your midst, and I shall be your God,* and you shall be my people.*

⁴¹ But Moses said, "Why are you going against the command of Yahweh? It will not succeed. ⁴² You should not go up because Yahweh is not in your midst; do not let yourselves be defeated in the presence of your enemies, ⁴³ because the Amalekites* and the Canaanites* are there _⌊before you_⌋,* and you will fall by the sword; because you have turned back from Yahweh, and Yahweh will not be with you."

¹⁰ Joshua said, "By this you will know that the living God is in your midst, and he will certainly drive out the Canaanites _⌊from before you_⌋,* and the Hittites, Hivites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, and the Jebusites.

² And he went out before Asa and said to him, "Hear me, O Asa and all of Judah and Benjamin! Yahweh is with you while you are with him. And if you will seek him he will be found by you. But if you forsake him he will forsake you.

¹⁷ The chariots of God are twice ten thousand, with thousands doubled. The Lord is among them at Sinai, distinctive in victory.*

⁶ Inhabitant of Zion, shout out and sing for joy, for the holy one of Israel is great in your midst."

²³ Thus says Yahweh of hosts: 'In those days ten men from _⌊all the nations of every language_⌋* will take hold of the hem of a Judean man,* saying, "Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you!" '"

²³ "Behold, the virgin _⌊will become pregnant_⌋* and will give birth to a son, and they will call his name Emmanuel,"*
which is translated, "God with us."*

²⁵ the secret things of his heart become evident, and so, falling on his face, he will worship God, proclaiming, "God is truly among you!"

¹² When the _⌊Israelites_⌋* heard of it, the whole congregation of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* gathered at Shiloh to go up against them for battle. ¹³ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* sent to the descendants* of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, to the land of Gilead, Phinehas the priest son of Eleazar, ¹⁴ and ten leaders with him, _⌊one leader for each_⌋* _⌊family_⌋* from each of the tribes of Israel; and each one was the head of _⌊his family_⌋* among the clans of Israel.*

¹³ Like the cold of snow on a day* of harvest is a faithful messenger to those who send him, and the soul* of his master is refreshed.*

³⁰ Phinehas the priest, the leaders of the congregation, and the heads of the clans* of Israel who were with him heard the words that the descendants* of Reuben, Gad, and Manasseh spoke, and _⌊they were satisfied_⌋.*

²⁰ And David said to all the assembly, "Bless Yahweh your God!" And all the assembly blessed Yahweh, the God of their ancestors.* And they bowed down and prostrated themselves before Yahweh and the king.

⁵ Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, because he was above all of the people. When he opened it all the people stood up. ⁶ Then Ezra blessed Yahweh the great God, and all of the people answered, "Amen! Amen!" while lifting their hands. Then they bowed down and worshiped Yahweh with their noses to the ground.

¹⁹ Then in a vision of the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel; then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

²⁸ he took him in his* arms and praised God and said,

¹² And the whole group became silent and listened to Barnabas and Paul describing all the signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them.

³¹ And when they* read it* aloud, they rejoiced at the encouragement.

⁷ and not only by his coming, but also by the comfort with which he was comforted among you, because he* reported to us your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced even more.

³ Blessed is* the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

⁶ But now, because* Timothy has come to us from you and has brought good news to us of your faith and love, and that _⌊you always think kindly of us_⌋*, desiring to see us just as also we desire to see you, ⁷ because of this, brothers, we have been comforted because of you in all our distress and affliction through your faith, ⁸ because now we live, if you stand firm in the Lord.

³⁹ When all the people saw, they fell on their faces and said, "Yahweh, he is God! Yahweh, he is God!"

¹⁰ "You are my witnesses," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and my servant whom I have chosen so that you may know and believe _⌊in_⌋* me and understand that I am he. No god was formed before _⌊me_⌋*, and none shall be after me.
