¹ The entire congregation of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* assembled at Shiloh, and they set up there the tent of meeting, and the land was subdued before them.* ² And seven tribes remained among the _⌊Israelites_⌋* who had not been apportioned their inheritance. ³ And Joshua said to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* "_⌊How long_⌋* will you be slack about going to take possession of the land that Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* has given you? ⁴ Provide three men _⌊from each tribe_⌋,* and I will send them so that they may begin to go through the land and write a description of it _⌊according to their inheritance_⌋,* and let them come to me. ⁵ They will divide it among themselves into seven portions; _⌊Judah will maintain its border_⌋* from the south, and _⌊the house of Joseph will maintain its border_⌋* from the north. ⁶ Describe the land in seven divisions, and bring it to me here; I will cast lots for you here before Yahweh our God. ⁷ The Levites among you have no portion, for their inheritance is the priesthood of Yahweh; Gad, Reuben, and the half-tribe of Manasseh received their inheritance beyond the Jordan to the east, which Moses Yahweh's servant gave to them." ⁸ And _⌊the men went immediately_⌋,* and Joshua commanded the ones going to describe the land, saying, "Go and walk about through the land, write a description, and return to me, and here I will cast a lot for you before* Yahweh at Shiloh." ⁹ And the men went and passed through the land, and they _⌊described_⌋* the cities in seven divisions in a book; and they came to Joshua to the camp at Shiloh, ¹⁰ and Joshua cast a lot for them at Shiloh before* Yahweh, and there he divided the land for the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* _⌊to each a portion_⌋.* ¹¹ And the allotment of the tribe of Benjamin came up according to their families, and the border of their allotment fell* between the descendants* of Judah and the descendants* of Joseph. ¹² Their northern border began at the Jordan and went up to the slope of Jericho on the north and continued into the hill country to the west; _⌊it ends_⌋* at the wilderness of Beth Aven. ¹³ The border passes on from there to Luz, to the slope of Luz to the south (that is, Bethel); then the border goes down to Ataroth Addar to the mountain that is south of Lower Beth-Horon. ¹⁴ Then the border changes direction and turns to the western side southward, from the mountain that _⌊is opposite_⌋* Beth-Horon to the south. _⌊It ends_⌋* at Kiriath Baal (that is, Kiriath Jearim), a town belonging to the descendants* of Judah. This is the western side. ¹⁵ The southern side begins on the outskirts of Kiriath Jearim, and the border continues to the west to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah; ¹⁶ the border goes down to the foot* of the mountain, which is opposite the Valley of Ben Hinnom,* which is in the valley of Rephaim to the north; then it does down the valley of Hinnom to the slope of the Jebusites* to the south, and then it goes down to En Rogel. ¹⁷ It changes direction from the north, and it continues to En Shemesh; it goes out to Geliloth, which is opposite the ascent of Adummim, and it goes down to the stone of Bohan, son of Reuben. ¹⁸ It passes on to the slope opposite the Arabah* to the north, and it goes down to the Arabah.* ¹⁹ The border passes on to the slope of Beth-hoglah to the north and _⌊ends_⌋* at the north bay of the Salt Sea* at the south end of the Jordan. This is the southern border. ²⁰ The Jordan forms its border on the eastern side. This is the inheritance of the tribe of Benjamin, its borders that surrounds them, according to their families. ²¹ Now the towns of the tribes of the descendants* of Benjamin, according to their families, were Jericho, Beth-hoglah, Emek Keziz, ²² Beth Arabah, Zemaraim, Bethel, ²³ Avvim, Parah, Ophrah, ²⁴ Kephar Ammoni, Ophni, and Geba; twelve cities and their villages. ²⁵ Gibeon, Ramah, Beeroth, ²⁶ Mizpeh, Kephirah, Mozah, ²⁷ Rekem, Irpeel, Taralah, ²⁸ Zela, Haeleph, Jebus (that is, Jerusalem), Gibeah, and Kiriath; fourteen cities and their villages. This is the inheritance of the descendants* of Benjamin according to their families.

⁵¹ These are the inheritances that Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the families of the tribes, distributed by allotment to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* at Shiloh _⌊before Yahweh_⌋* at the entrance of the tent of meeting. And they finished dividing the land.

² And they spoke to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, "Yahweh commanded through the hand of Moses to give us cities to live in, with their pasturelands for our livestock."

⁹ So the descendants* of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned home and departed with the _⌊Israelites_⌋* at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go to the land of Gilead to the land of their possession, which they had acquired _⌊according to the command of Yahweh_⌋* through the hand of Moses.

³¹ So they set up for themselves the carved divine image that Micah had made, all the days that the house of God was in Shiloh.

¹⁹ And they said, "Look, the annual feast of Yahweh is in Shiloh, which is to the north of Bethel, _⌊east_⌋* of the main road that goes up from Bethel to Shechem, and south of Lebonah.

³ Now this man used to go up from his town _⌊year by year_⌋* to worship and to sacrifice to Yahweh of hosts in Shiloh, _⌊where_⌋* the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests to Yahweh.

²⁴ Then she brought him up with her when she had weaned him, along with three bulls, one ephah of flour, and a skin* of wine. She brought him to the house of Yahweh at Shiloh while the boy was still young.

³ When the army* came back to the camp, the elders of Israel asked, "Why has Yahweh defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of Yahweh to us from Shiloh so that it may come into our midst and deliver* us from the hand of our enemies." ⁴ So the army sent to Shiloh and brought from there the ark of the covenant of Yahweh of hosts who sits between the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.

²⁷ So Solomon banished Abiathar from being priest to Yahweh, thus fulfilling the word which Yahweh had spoken concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

² Jeroboam said to his wife, "Please get up and disguise yourself so that they will not know that you are the wife of Jeroboam, and go to Shiloh. Look, Ahijah the prophet is there, and he spoke concerning me before I became king over this people.

⁴ The wife of Jeroboam did so. She got up, went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. Now Ahijah was not able to see, for _⌊his eyes were fixed_⌋* because of his old age.

⁶⁶ And he beat back his enemies; he gave them over to perpetual scorn.

¹² "For go now to my place that was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell in the beginning, and see what I did to it _⌊because of_⌋* the wickedness of my people Israel. ¹³ And now, because of your doing all these things," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and _⌊I have spoken to you over and over again_⌋,* and you have not listened, and I called you, and you have not answered, ¹⁴ therefore I will do to the house that is called _⌊by my name_⌋,* in which you are trusting, and to the place that I gave to you and to your ancestors* _⌊what_⌋* I did to Shiloh.

⁶ then I will make this house like Shiloh, and this city I will make a curse for all the nations of the earth.'" '"

⁹ And they said to them, "Come, let us go up against them; for we have seen the land, and it is very good. Will you do nothing? Do not hesitate to go, to enter, to possess the land.

² in order to incline your ear toward wisdom, then you shall apply your heart to understanding. ³ For if you cry out for understanding,* if you lift* your voice for insight, ⁴ if you seek her like silver and search her out _⌊like treasure_⌋,* ⁵ then you will understand the fear of Yahweh, and the knowledge of God you will find. ⁶ For Yahweh will give wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

⁴ A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent enriches.

⁴ The soul* of the lazy craves, but there is nothing, but the person of diligence is richly supplied.

¹⁹ The way of the lazy is like a hedge of thorns,* but the path of the upright is a highway.

¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do—do it with all your might; for in Sheol—where you are going—no one works, plans, knows, or thinks about anything.

¹⁶ On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, "Fear not, O Zion; your hands shall not hang limp.

⁶ And about the eleventh hour he went out and* found others standing there and said to them, 'Why are you standing here the whole day unemployed?'

²⁷ Do not work for the food that perishes, but the food that remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has set his seal on this one."

¹³ Brothers, I do not consider myself to have laid hold of it.* But I do one thing, forgetting the things behind and straining toward the things ahead, ¹⁴ I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

¹⁰ Therefore, brothers, be zealous even more to make your calling and election secure, because if you* do these things, you will never ever stumble. ¹¹ For in this way entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly supplied for you.

⁴ A man from each tribe will be with you, each man the head of _⌊his family_⌋.*

² "Send for yourself men, and let them explore the land of Canaan, which I am about to give to the _⌊Israelites_⌋;* _⌊from each tribe of his father send one man_⌋,* everyone a leader among them."

¹² So then, take twelve men from the tribes of Israel, _⌊one from each tribe_⌋.*

⁹ And the men went and passed through the land, and they _⌊described_⌋* the cities in seven divisions in a book; and they came to Joshua to the camp at Shiloh,

¹ The allotment for the tribe of the descendants* of Judah according to their families reached to the border of Edom, to the wilderness of Zin, _⌊to the far south_⌋.* ² Their southern border was from the end of the Salt Sea,* from the bay facing southward; ³ it continues* to the south to the ascent of Akrabbim, passes along to Zin, it goes up south of Kadesh Barnea, passes along Hezron, goes up to Addar, and makes a turn to Karka; ⁴ _⌊it passes on_⌋* to Azmon, continues* by the wadi of Egypt, and _⌊it ends_⌋* at the sea. This will be your southern border. ⁵ The eastern border is the Salt Sea* up to the mouth* of the Jordan. The border on the northern side runs from the bay of the sea at the mouth* of the Jordan; ⁶ the border goes up to Beth-hoglah and passes along north of Beth Arabah; and the border goes up the stone of Bohan son of Reuben; ⁷ and the border goes up to Debir from the valley of Achor, and to the north, turning to Gilgal, which is opposite the ascent of Adummim, which is south of the wadi;* and the border passes on to the waters of En Shemesh, and it ends at En Rogel. ⁸ Then the border goes up by the Valley of Ben Hinnom* to the slope of the Jebusites* from the south (that is, Jerusalem); and the border goes up to the top of the mountain that lies opposite the valley of Hinnom to the west, which is at the end of the valley of Rephaim to the north; ⁹ then the border turns from the top of the mountain to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, and continues* from there to the cities of Mount Ephron; the border then turns to Baalah (that is, Kiriath Jearim); ¹⁰ and the border goes around from Baalah to the west, to Mount Seir, and passes on to the slope of Mount Jearim from the north (that is, Kesalon), and goes down to Beth Shemesh, and passes along by Timnah. ¹¹ The border continues* to the slope of Ekron to the north, then bends around to Shikkeron, it passes on to Mount Baalah and continues to Jabneel; and _⌊the border ends_⌋* at the sea. ¹² And the western border is to the Great Sea* and its coast. This is the border surrounding the descendants* of Judah according to their families.

¹ The allotment of the descendants* of Joseph went from the Jordan by Jericho, at the waters of Jericho to the east, into the wilderness, going up from Jericho into the hill country to Bethel; ² it continues from Bethel to Luz, and it passes along to the territory of the Arkites* at Ataroth. ³ Then it goes down, to the west, to the territory of the Japhletites,* up to the territory of Lower Beth-horon, then to Gezer, and _⌊it ends_⌋* at the sea. ⁴ And the descendants* of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, received their inheritance. ⁵ This was the border of the descendants* of Ephraim according to their families: the border of their inheritance to the east was Ataroth Addar, up to Upper Beth-horon. ⁶ The border continues to the sea; from Micmethath to the north, the border turns to the east to Taanath Shiloh, and it passes along it from the east to Janoah. ⁷ Then it goes down from Janoah to Ataroth and to Naarah; it touches Jericho and ends at the Jordan; ⁸ from Tappuah the border goes to the west, to the wadi* of Kanah, and _⌊it ends_⌋* at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the descendants* of Ephraim according to their families, ⁹ with the cities that were set apart for the descendants* of Ephraim in the midst of the inheritance of the descendants* of Manasseh, all the cities and their villages. ¹⁰ But they did not drive out the Canananites* who were dwelling in Gezer, and so the Canaanites* live in the midst of Ephraim to this day, but they became forced laborers.

¹ The second allotment _⌊fell_⌋* for Simeon, for the tribe of the descendants* of Simeon, according to their families. And their inheritance was in the midst of the inheritance of the descendants* of Judah. ² And they had as their inheritance Beersheba, Sheba, Moladah, ³ Hazar Shual, Balah, Ezem, ⁴ Eltolad, Bethul, Hormah, ⁵ Ziklag, Beth Marcaboth, Hazar Susah, ⁶ Beth Lebaoth, and Sharuhen; thirteen cities and their villages. ⁷ Ain, Rimmon, Ether, and Ashan; four cities and their villages, ⁸ and all the villages that were around these towns up to Baalat-Beor, Ramath of the Negev.* This was the inheritance of the tribe of the descendants* of Simeon according to their families. ⁹ Part of the portion allotted to the descendants* of Judah became the inheritance of the descendants* of Simeon because the portion for the descendants* of Judah was _⌊too large for them_⌋,* so the descendants* of Simeon inherited from their inheritance.

⁵⁴ For the larger group you must increase their inheritance, and for the smaller group you must make smaller their inheritance; each must be given _⌊their_⌋* inheritance according to the number of the ones counted of them. ⁵⁵ Surely the land will be divided by lot. They will inherit according to the names of the tribes of their ancestors.*

⁵⁴ You will distribute the land by lot according to your clans; to the larger group you will give a larger inheritance, and to the smaller group you will give less inheritance. However the lot falls for him, there the lot will be. You will distribute it according to the tribes of your ancestors.*

¹³ So Moses commanded the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* saying, "This is the land that you will obtain as an inheritance for yourself by lot, which Yahweh commanded to give to the nine and a half tribes.

² Their inheritance was by lot, just as Yahweh commanded through the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes and the half-tribe.

⁸ And _⌊the men went immediately_⌋,* and Joshua commanded the ones going to describe the land, saying, "Go and walk about through the land, write a description, and return to me, and here I will cast a lot for you before* Yahweh at Shiloh."

¹⁰ and Joshua cast a lot for them at Shiloh before* Yahweh, and there he divided the land for the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* _⌊to each a portion_⌋.*

¹¹ saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan as the allotment that is your* inheritance."

³³ The lot will be cast into the lap, but all of its decisions are from Yahweh.

¹⁸ The lot will put an end to disputes, and between powerful contenders it will decide.

¹⁹ And after* destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave their land to his people* as an inheritance.

²⁰ Then Yahweh said to Aaron, "You will not receive an inheritance in their land, and there will not be a plot of ground for you in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

²³ The Levites* will perform the service of the tent of assembly, and they will bear their guilt, an eternal decree for all your generations. But they will not receive an inheritance in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋*

²⁹ Moses said to them, "If the descendants* of Gad and the descendants* of Reuben, everyone who is armed for the war, cross over the Jordan _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, and the land is subdued before you, you will give them the land of Gilead as property. ³⁰ But if they will not cross over with you armed, they will acquire land in your midst in Canaan." ³¹ The descendants* of Gad and the descendants of Reuben answered and said, "What Yahweh has commanded your servants, we will do. ³² We ourselves will cross over armed _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh to the land of Canaan, and the property of our inheritance will remain with us beyond the Jordan." ³³ So Moses gave to them, to the descendants* of Gad and the descendants* of Reuben, and to half of the tribe of Joseph's son Manasseh, the kingdom of Sihon the king of Amorites and the kingdom of Og the king of the Bashan, the land with its cities and their territories, the cities of the surrounding land. ³⁴ The descendants* of Gad rebuilt Dibon, Ataroth, and Aroer, ³⁵ and Atroth Shophan, Jazer, and Jogbehah, ³⁶ and Beth Nimrah and Beth Haran, the cities of Mibzar, and the sheep pens for flocks. ³⁷ The descendants* of Reuben rebuilt Heshbon, Elealeh, and Kiriathaim, ³⁸ and Nebo, Baal Meon (their names* were changed), and Sibmah, and _⌊they renamed_⌋* the cities that they rebuilt. ³⁹ The descendants* of Makir son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and they captured it and drove out the Amorites* who were in it. ⁴⁰ So Moses gave Gilead to Makir son of Manasseh, and he lived in it. ⁴¹ And Jair son of Manasseh went and captured their unwalled villages, and he called them Havvoth Jair.

¹² And so we took possession of this land at that time, from Aroer, which is on the edge of the wadi* of Arnon, and also half of the hill country of Gilead and its towns I gave to the Reubenites* and to the Gadites.* ¹³ And the remainder of Gilead and all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh, the whole region of Argo. All of that area of Bashan was called the land of the Rephaim. ¹⁴ Jair the descendant* of Manasseh acquired the whole region of Argob, up to the boundary of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and he called it,* that is Bashan, after his own name, Havvoth Jair, _⌊as it still is today_⌋.* ¹⁵ And also I gave Gilead to Makir. ¹⁶ And to the Reubenites* and to the Gadites* I gave, from Gilead up to the wadi* of Arnon, the middle of the wadi* as a boundary and up to the Jabbok _⌊River_⌋,* the boundary of the _⌊Ammonites_⌋.* ¹⁷ And the _⌊Jordan Valley_⌋* with the Jordan River as its boundary, from Kinnereth* up to the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea,* with the slopes of Pisgah toward the east.

⁴⁷ And so they took possession of his land and the land of Og king of Bashan, the two kings of the Amorites* who were beyond the Jordan, _⌊eastward_⌋,* ⁴⁸ from Aroer, which is on the bank of the wadi* of Arnon and as far as Mount Sirion; that is, Hermon,

⁹ Therefore _⌊there was not_⌋* for Levi an allotment or an inheritance along with his brothers; rather Yahweh is his inheritance just as Yahweh your God _⌊promised_⌋* to him.

¹ "And there shall not be for the Levitical priests, the whole tribe of Levi, a plot of ground and an inheritance with Israel, rather they may eat an offering made by fire as their inheritance,* for Yahweh. ² And there shall not be for them* an inheritance of land in the midst of his brothers; rather Yahweh is his inheritance, just as he _⌊promised_⌋* to them.*

⁸ With it* the Reubenites,* and the Gadites* received their inheritance, which Moses gave them beyond the Jordan to the east, just as Moses Yahweh's servant gave to them: ⁹ from Aroer, which is on the edge of the wadi* of Arnon, and the city which is in the middle of the wadi, and all the plateau from Medeba up to Dibon; ¹⁰ and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites,* who reigned in Heshbon up to the border of the _⌊Ammonites_⌋;* ¹¹ and Gilead, and the border of the Geshurite* and the Maacathites,* all of _⌊Mount Hermon_⌋,* and Bashan up to Salecah; ¹² all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei—he was left over from the survivors* of the Rephaim; these Moses had defeated and driven out. ¹³ But the _⌊Israelites_⌋* did not drive out the Geshurites* or the Maacathites;* Geshur and Maacah live among Israel to this day. ¹⁴ Only the tribe of Levites* Moses did not give an inheritance; the offerings made by fire to Yahweh the God of Israel are their* inheritance, just as he promised to them.* ¹⁵ Moses gave an inheritance to the tribe of the descendants* of Reuben according to their families. ¹⁶ Their territory was from Aroer, which was on the edge of the wadi* of Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the plateau by Medeba; ¹⁷ Heshbon and its cities that are on the plateau; Dibon, Bamoth Baal, Beth Baal Meon, ¹⁸ Jahaz, Kedemoth, Mephaath, ¹⁹ Kiriathaim, Sibmah, and Zereth Shahar on the hill of the valley; ²⁰ Beth Peor, the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth Jeshimoth; ²¹ all of the cities of the plateau, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites,* who reigned in Heshbon and whom Moses defeated with the leaders of Midian, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the princes of Sihon who dwelled in the land. ²² In addition to their slain, the _⌊Israelites_⌋* killed with the sword Balaam son of Beor, who practiced divination. ²³ And the border of the descendants* of Reuben was the Jordan and its banks.* This was the inheritance of the descendants* of Reuben according to their families, the cities, and their villages. ²⁴ Moses gave an inheritance to the tribe of Gad, to the descendants* of Gad, according to their families. ²⁵ Their territory was Jazer and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* up to Aroer, _⌊which is east of Rabbah_⌋;* ²⁶ and from Heshbon up to Ramah-Mizpeh and Betonim, and from Mahanaim up to the territory to Debir; ²⁷ in the valley of Beth Haram, Beth Nimrah, Succoth, Zaphon, and the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, the Jordan and its banks,* up to the lower end of the Kinnereth Sea* beyond the Jordan to the east. ²⁸ This is the inheritance of the _⌊Gadites_⌋* according to their families, the cities, and their villages. ²⁹ Moses gave an inheritance to the half-tribe of Manasseh; it was for the half-tribe of the descendants* of Manasseh according to their families. ³⁰ Their territory was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the settlements* of Jair, which are in Bashan, sixty cities, ³¹ and half of Gilead, with Ashtaroth, Edrei, and the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan; these were allotted to the children of Makir son of Manasseh, for half of the children of Makir according to their families.

³³ But to the tribe of Levi Moses did not give an inheritance; Yahweh the God of Israel, he is their inheritance, just as _⌊he promised them_⌋.*

¹⁷ Arise, go through the length of the land and through its breadth, for I will give it to you."

¹⁶ So* Joshua rose early in the morning and brought forward Israel, _⌊tribe by tribe_⌋,* and the tribe of Judah was selected by lot. ¹⁷ And he brought forward the clans of Judah and selected the clan of the Zerahites* by lot. Then he brought forward the clan of the Zerahites,* one by one, and Zabdi was selected by lot. ¹⁸ He brought forward his family, one by one, and Achan son of Carmi son of Zabdi son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was selected by lot.

⁷ Therefore, divide this land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh."

²⁴ And they prayed and* said, "You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show clearly which one of these two you have chosen ²⁵ to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to depart to his own place." ²⁶ And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was added to serve* with the eleven apostles.

¹⁹ So then, let us pursue _⌊what promotes peace_⌋* and _⌊what edifies one another_⌋*.

⁵ Yahweh is the portion which is my share and my cup. You hold my lot. ⁶ The measuring lines have fallen for me in pleasant places. Yes, my inheritance is delightful for me.

⁴ He chooses for us our inheritance, the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

⁵ For you, O God, you have heard my vows. You have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.

²² And then you shall allocate it as an inheritance for yourselves and for the aliens dwelling as aliens in the midst of you who have children in the midst of you, and so they shall be to you just like full citizens among the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* With you they shall be allotted with an inheritance in the midst of the tribes of Israel.

²⁹ This is the land that you shall allot as an inheritance to the tribes of Israel, and these are their portions," _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

³⁵ And when they* had crucified him, they divided his clothes among themselves* by* casting lots.

² just as you have given him authority over all flesh, in order that he would give eternal life to them—everyone whom you have given him.

¹⁸ to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a share among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'

¹² giving thanks to the Father who has qualified you for a share of the inheritance of the saints in light,

¹ "At that time Yahweh said to me, 'Carve for yourself two tablets of stone just as the former ones, and come up the mountain to me, and you shall make for yourself an ark of wood. ² And I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets, which you smashed, and you must put them in the ark.' ³ And so I made an ark _⌊of acacia wood_⌋,* and I carved two tablets of stone like the former ones, and I went up the mountain with the two tablets in my hand. ⁴ And he wrote upon the tablets _⌊according to the first writing_⌋,* the ten words that Yahweh spoke to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly, and Yahweh gave them to me. ⁵ And I turned, and I came down from the mountain, and I put the tablets in the ark that I had made, and they are there, just as Yahweh commanded me. ⁶ "And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* journeyed from the wells of Bene-Yaqan to Moserah; there Aaron died and was buried, and Eleazar, his son, served as a priest in place of him. ⁷ From there they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land flowing with streams of water. ⁸ At that time Yahweh set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of Yahweh to stand _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, to serve him and to bless the people in his name until this day. ⁹ Therefore _⌊there was not_⌋* for Levi an allotment or an inheritance along with his brothers; rather Yahweh is his inheritance just as Yahweh your God _⌊promised_⌋* to him. ¹⁰ And I stayed on the mountain just as during the former forty days* and forty nights,* and Yahweh listened to me also on that occasion;* Yahweh was not willing to destroy you. ¹¹ And Yahweh said to me, '_⌊Come, continue_⌋* your journey _⌊before the people_⌋, * so that you may go and take possession of the land that I swore to their ancestors* to give to them.' ¹² And now, Israel, what is Yahweh your God asking* from you, except* to revere Yahweh your God, to go* in all his ways and to love him and to serve Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul,* ¹³ to keep the commandments of Yahweh and his statutes that I am commanding you today _⌊for your own good_⌋.* ¹⁴ Look! For to Yahweh your God _⌊belong_⌋* heaven and the _⌊highest heavens_⌋,* the earth and all that is in it. ¹⁵ _⌊Yet_⌋* to your ancestors* Yahweh was very attached, so as to love them, and so he chose their offspring after them, namely you, from all the peoples, as it is _⌊today_⌋.* ¹⁶ So you shall circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and _⌊do not be stubborn_⌋.* ¹⁷ For Yahweh your God, he is God of the gods and Lord of the lords, the great and mighty God, the awesome one who _⌊is not partial_⌋,* and he does not take bribes. ¹⁸ And he executes justice for the orphan and widow, and he is one who loves the alien, to give to them food and clothing. ¹⁹ And you shall love the alien, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt. ²⁰ Yahweh your God, you shall revere him, you shall serve him, and to him you shall cling, and by his name you shall swear. ²¹ He is your praise, and he is your God, who has done with you these great and awesome things that your eyes have seen. ²² With only seventy persons your ancestors* went down to Egypt, but now Yahweh your God has made you as the stars of the heaven _⌊with respect to multitude_⌋.*

¹² "If you hear in one of your towns which Yahweh your God is giving to you to live in, someone _⌊saying that_⌋*

¹ The allotment for the tribe of the descendants* of Judah according to their families reached to the border of Edom, to the wilderness of Zin, _⌊to the far south_⌋.* ² Their southern border was from the end of the Salt Sea,* from the bay facing southward; ³ it continues* to the south to the ascent of Akrabbim, passes along to Zin, it goes up south of Kadesh Barnea, passes along Hezron, goes up to Addar, and makes a turn to Karka; ⁴ _⌊it passes on_⌋* to Azmon, continues* by the wadi of Egypt, and _⌊it ends_⌋* at the sea. This will be your southern border. ⁵ The eastern border is the Salt Sea* up to the mouth* of the Jordan. The border on the northern side runs from the bay of the sea at the mouth* of the Jordan; ⁶ the border goes up to Beth-hoglah and passes along north of Beth Arabah; and the border goes up the stone of Bohan son of Reuben; ⁷ and the border goes up to Debir from the valley of Achor, and to the north, turning to Gilgal, which is opposite the ascent of Adummim, which is south of the wadi;* and the border passes on to the waters of En Shemesh, and it ends at En Rogel. ⁸ Then the border goes up by the Valley of Ben Hinnom* to the slope of the Jebusites* from the south (that is, Jerusalem); and the border goes up to the top of the mountain that lies opposite the valley of Hinnom to the west, which is at the end of the valley of Rephaim to the north;

¹ Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two men from Acacia Grove* as spies, saying, "Go, view the land, especially Jericho." So they went, and entered the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab, and _⌊spent the night_⌋* there.

¹⁶ the waters flowing down from above stood still; they stood up in one heap very far from Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan, while the waters flowing down to the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea,* _⌊were completely cut off_⌋;* and the people crossed over opposite Jericho.

¹ Now Jericho was shut up inside and out because of the presence of the _⌊Israelites_⌋;* no one was going out or coming in.

² Now Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is near Beth Aven, east of Bethel, and he said to them, "Go up and spy out Ai." And the men went up and spied out Ai.

¹ The allotment of the descendants* of Joseph went from the Jordan by Jericho, at the waters of Jericho to the east, into the wilderness, going up from Jericho into the hill country to Bethel;

¹⁵ Even though you, O Israel, are playing the whore, do not let Judah become guilty; do not enter Gilgal, or go up to Beth-aven; and do not swear, "_⌊As Yahweh lives_⌋!"*

⁸ Blow the _⌊horn_⌋* in Gibeah, the trumpet in Ramah. Sound the alarm in Beth-aven; look behind you, Benjamin.

⁵ The inhabitants* of Samaria tremble for the calf* of Beth-aven. Indeed, his people will mourn for it, and his idolatrous priests will wail* over it— over its glory because it has departed from it.

¹⁹ And he called the name of that place Bethel; however, the name of the city was formerly Luz.

¹¹ And as they were fleeing from Israel, they were on the slope of Beth-horon, and Yahweh threw huge stones from the heavens on them as far as Azekah; and more died by the hail stones than those whom the _⌊Israelites_⌋* killed by the sword.

² it continues from Bethel to Luz, and it passes along to the territory of the Arkites* at Ataroth. ³ Then it goes down, to the west, to the territory of the Japhletites,* up to the territory of Lower Beth-horon, then to Gezer, and _⌊it ends_⌋* at the sea.

⁵ This was the border of the descendants* of Ephraim according to their families: the border of their inheritance to the east was Ataroth Addar, up to Upper Beth-horon.

²² Kibzaim and its pasturelands, and Beth-horon and its pasturelands; four cities.

²² Likewise, the house of Joseph went up against Bethel, and Yahweh was with them. ²³ And the house of Joseph spied out Bethel (the former name of the city was Luz). ²⁴ And when the spies saw a man leaving the city,* they said to him, "Please show us the entrance of the city, and we will deal kindly* with you." ²⁵ So he showed them the entrance of the city, and they struck the city with _⌊the edge of the sword_⌋,* but they let go the man and all his family. ²⁶ And the man went to the land of the Hittites, and he built a city and named it Luz; this is its name to this day.

⁹ then the border turns from the top of the mountain to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, and continues* from there to the cities of Mount Ephron; the border then turns to Baalah (that is, Kiriath Jearim);

⁶⁰ Kiriath Baal (that is, Kiriath Jearim) and Rabbah; two cities and their villages.

¹ The men of Kiriath Jearim came and brought up the ark of Yahweh, and they brought it to the house of Abinadab in Gibeah. They consecrated Eleazer his son to guard the ark of Yahweh. ² _⌊From_⌋* the day the ark stayed in Kiriath Jearim, _⌊days multiplied and became twenty years_⌋* while all the house of Israel mourned after Yahweh.

² David got up and went and all the people who were with him, from Baale-judah to bring up from there the ark of God which is called the name, the name of Yahweh of hosts, _⌊upon which the cherubim sit_⌋.*

⁵ And David summoned all Israel from Shihor of Egypt up to Lebo-Hamath to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-Jearim. ⁶ And David and all Israel went up to Baalah, Kiriath-Jearim of Judah, to bring up from there the ark of Yahweh God who is enthroned between the cherubim, which is called the name.

⁶³ But the descendants* of Judah were unable to drive out the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so the Jebusites live with the descendants* of Judah in Jerusalem to this day.

²⁸ Zela, Haeleph, Jebus (that is, Jerusalem), Gibeah, and Kiriath; fourteen cities and their villages. This is the inheritance of the descendants* of Benjamin according to their families.

⁸ The descendants* of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and they captured it, _⌊put it to the sword_⌋,* and _⌊set the city on fire_⌋.*

²¹ But the descendants* of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites* who lived in Jerusalem, so the Jebusites have lived among the descendants* of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.

¹⁰ But the man was not willing to spend the night, and he got up and went; and he arrived opposite Jebus (that is, Jerusalem). He had with him a pair of saddled donkeys and his concubine.

¹⁷ Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying at En Rogel, so a servant girl used to go and tell them, then they would go and tell King David, for they were not able to be seen coming to the city.

⁹ And Adonijah sacrificed sheep, oxen, and fattened animals near the stone of Zoheleth, which is beside En Rogel. He invited all of his brothers, the sons of the king, and all the men of Judah, the servants of the king.

¹⁰ He defiled the Topheth which is in the Valley of Ben-Hinnom, _⌊to prevent_⌋* anyone causing his sons or his daughters to pass through the fire for Molech.

⁹ Now the Philistines came and carried out a raid in the Valley of Rephaim.

³ And he himself burned incense in the valley of Ben-Hinnom and burned his sons in the fire, according to the detestable practices of the nations whom Yahweh drove out before the Israelites.

⁶ And he himself burned his sons in the fire in the Valley of Ben-Hinnom. And he practiced sorcery and divination, and he engaged in witchcraft and dealt with mediums and spiritists. And he did much evil in the eyes of Yahweh, to provoke him to anger.

³³ For Topheth has been prepared from yesterday; indeed, it is made ready for the king. He makes its pile of wood deep and wide; he makes fire and wood _⌊abundant_⌋.* The breath of Yahweh burns in it like a stream of sulfur.

³¹ And they built the high place of Topheth, which is in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I have not commanded, and it did not come into my mind.* ³² Therefore look, days are about to come," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and it will no longer be called Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom, but the Valley of the Slaughter, and they will bury in Topheth _⌊until there is no more place_⌋.*

² and go out to the Valley of Ben Hinnom, which is at the entrance of the Gate of the Potsherd, and proclaim there the words that I speak to you.

⁶ "_⌊Therefore_⌋* look, days are about to come," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "when this place will no longer be called Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom, _⌊but_⌋* the Valley of the Slaughter.

¹¹ And you shall say to them, 'Thus says Yahweh of hosts: "So I will break this people and this city as one breaks the vessel of the potter, so that it is not able to be repaired again. And in Topheth they will bury _⌊until there is no room to bury_⌋.*

³⁵ And they built the high places of Baal that are in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to present as offerings their sons and their daughters to Molech, which I had not commanded them, and it had not come to my _⌊mind_⌋* to do this detestable thing in order to cause Judah to sin."

⁶ the border goes up to Beth-hoglah and passes along north of Beth Arabah; and the border goes up the stone of Bohan son of Reuben;

⁶¹ In the wilderness: Beth Arabah, Middin, Secacah,

³ All these joined forces at the valley of Siddim (that is, the sea of the salt).

²⁵ And he overthrew those cities and the whole plain, and the inhabitants of the cities and the vegetation of the ground.

³ Your southern edge will be from the desert of Zin toward the side of Edom, and your southern border will be from the end of the Salt Sea* to the east;

¹⁷ And the _⌊Jordan Valley_⌋* with the Jordan River as its boundary, from Kinnereth* up to the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea,* with the slopes of Pisgah toward the east.

³ and the Arabah* up to the Kinnereth Sea* to the east, and as far as the sea of Arabah, the Salt Sea* to the east, _⌊in the direction of_⌋* Beth Jeshimoth, and to the area southward, _⌊at the foot of_⌋* the slopes of Pisgah;*

² Their southern border was from the end of the Salt Sea,* from the bay facing southward;

¹⁵ And Yahweh will divide* the tongue* of the sea of Egypt,* and he will wave his hand over the river* with his scorching wind; and he will strike it into seven streams, and he will _⌊make it passable by foot_⌋.*

¹² Their northern border began at the Jordan and went up to the slope of Jericho on the north and continued into the hill country to the west; _⌊it ends_⌋* at the wilderness of Beth Aven.

¹⁹ The border passes on to the slope of Beth-hoglah to the north and _⌊ends_⌋* at the north bay of the Salt Sea* at the south end of the Jordan. This is the southern border.

³⁰ And* Jesus replied and* said, "A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of robbers, who both stripped him and beat him.* After* inflicting blows on him,* they went away, leaving him* half dead.

¹ And he entered and* traveled through Jericho.

¹⁸ the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward the families of the Canaanites were spread abroad.

¹⁸ It passes on to the slope opposite the Arabah* to the north, and it goes down to the Arabah.*

²⁹ He put one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan. ³⁰ This thing became a sin, and the people walked before the one as far as Dan. ³¹ Then he built the houses on the high places, and he appointed priests _⌊from all walks of life_⌋* who were not from the sons of Levi. ³² Jeroboam also inaugurated a religious feast in the eighth month on the fifteenth day of the month, like the religious feast which was in Judah, and he offered sacrifices on the altar. Thus he did in Bethel, by sacrificing to the calves that he had made; and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made.

⁴ Then Abijah stood up on top of Mount Zemaraim that is in the hill country of Ephraim and said, "Hear me, O Jeroboam and all Israel!

¹⁷ The _⌊raiders_⌋* went out from the camp of the Philistines in three divisions. One division turned on the road* to Ophrah toward the land of Shual.

¹⁷ From the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon and its pasturelands, Geba and its pasturelands,

²⁶ the people* of Ramah and Geba, six hundred and twenty-one;

³⁰ The men of Ramah and Geba, six hundred and twenty-one.

²⁹ They crossed over the pass; Geba is a place of overnight lodging for us. Ramah trembles; Gibeah of Saul has fled.

¹⁷ And he brought forward the clans of Judah and selected the clan of the Zerahites* by lot. Then he brought forward the clan of the Zerahites,* one by one, and Zabdi was selected by lot.

¹⁷ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* set out and went to their cities on the third day (their cities were Gibeon, Kephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath Jearim).

² he* became very afraid because Gibeon was a very large city, _⌊like one of the royal cities_⌋,* and because it was larger than Ai, and all its men were mighty warriors.

³⁴ Zanoah, En Gannim, Tappuah, Enam,

¹ There was a certain man from Ramathaim Zophim, from the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.*

⁴ So the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice, for the great high place was there. Solomon used to offer a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. ⁵ Yahweh appeared to Solomon at Gibeon in a dream at night, and God said, "Ask what I should give to you."

² Yahweh appeared to Solomon a second time, as he had appeared to him in Gibeon.

²¹ For Yahweh will rise up as at Mount Perazim; he will rave as in the valley at Gibeon to do his deed—his deed is strange— and to work his work—his work is alien!

¹⁵ Thus says Yahweh, "A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation, the weeping of bitterness. Rachel is weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted because of her children, for they are no more."

⁵⁷ Now when it was evening, a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph came, who also was a disciple of Jesus himself.

¹⁷ And the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* were summoned,* and they camped in Gilead. And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* gathered and camped at Mizpah.

²⁵ the people* of Kiriath Αrim, Kephirah, and Beeroth, seven hundred and forty-three;

⁵⁴ For the larger group you must increase their inheritance, and for the smaller group you must make smaller their inheritance; each must be given _⌊their_⌋* inheritance according to the number of the ones counted of them.

⁸ Then the border goes up by the Valley of Ben Hinnom* to the slope of the Jebusites* from the south (that is, Jerusalem); and the border goes up to the top of the mountain that lies opposite the valley of Hinnom to the west, which is at the end of the valley of Rephaim to the north;

¹⁶ the border goes down to the foot* of the mountain, which is opposite the Valley of Ben Hinnom,* which is in the valley of Rephaim to the north; then it does down the valley of Hinnom to the slope of the Jebusites* to the south, and then it goes down to En Rogel.

¹² But his master said to him, "We will not turn aside to the city of foreigners,* who are not from the _⌊Israelites_⌋;* we will cross over up to Gibeah." ¹³ And he said to his servant, "Come, let us approach one of these places; we will spend the night in Gibeah or in Ramah." ¹⁴ So they crossed over and went their way, and the sun went down on them beside Gibeah, which belongs to Benjamin. ¹⁵ And they turned aside there to enter and to spend the night at Gibeah. And they went and sat in the open square of the city, but no one _⌊took them in to spend the night_⌋.*

⁴ The Levite, the husband of the murdered woman, answered and said, "I came to Gibeah, which belongs to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to spend the night. ⁵ The lords of Gibeah rose up against me and surrounded the house at night. They intended to kill me, and they raped my concubine, and she died.

²⁶ And Saul also went to his house at Gibeah, and the troops whose hearts* God had touched went with him.

¹⁵ Then Samuel got up and went up from Gilgal to Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul mustered the people who were found with him, about six hundred men. ¹⁶ Saul and Jonathan his son and the army that remained with them were staying in Geba of Benjamin, and the Philistines encamped at Micmash.

⁸ David had said, "On that day _⌊when we attack the Jebusites_⌋,* one must attack the lame and the blind, those who hate the soul of David, by means of the water supply." For thus the blind and the lame would say, "He cannot come into the house."

¹⁴ And they buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the land of Benjamin at Zela, in the tomb of Kish his father. They did all that the king had commanded, and afterward God was entreated for the land.

⁹ From the days of Gibeah you have sinned, O Israel; there _⌊they have remained_⌋.* Will not war in Gibeah overtake them against the children of evil?
