² A day of darkness and gloom, a day of cloud and thick darkness, like the dawn spreads on the mountains, a great and strong army! There has been nothing like it from old, and after it nothing will be again _⌊for generations to come_⌋.*

⁶ And your houses will be full, and the houses of all your servants and the houses of all Egypt, something that your fathers and _⌊your grandfathers_⌋* never saw from the day they were on the earth until this day.'" And he turned and went out from Pharaoh.

¹⁴ And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and they settled in all the territory of Egypt, very _⌊severe_⌋.* Before it there were not locusts like them, nor will there be after it.

²¹ And the people stood at a distance, and Moses approached the very thick cloud where God was.

⁷ Remember the old days, _⌊the years long past_⌋;* ask your father, and he will inform you, your elders and they will tell you.*

⁶ He says in his heart, "I shall not be moved _⌊throughout all generations_⌋,* during which I will have no trouble."

² Cloud and thick darkness are surrounding him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

³⁰ And he will roar over him on that day like the roaring of the sea, and if one looks to the land, look! Darkness! Distress! And the light grows dark with its* clouds.

²² or look to the earth. But look! Distress and darkness, the gloom of affliction! And it will be thrust into darkness!

¹⁶ Give glory to Yahweh your God _⌊before_⌋* he brings darkness, and _⌊before_⌋* your feet stumble on the mountains at twilight. And you will hope for light, but he makes it as gloom, he makes it* as thick darkness.

¹² And so he has carried out his words which he spoke against us and against our rulers who ruled us, to bring upon us a great calamity which was not done under all of heaven as it was done in Jerusalem.

¹ "Now at that time, Michael, the great prince, will arise, _⌊the protector_⌋* over the sons of your people, and it will be a time of distress that has not been since your people _⌊have been_⌋* a nation until that time. And at that time your people will escape, _⌊everyone who is found_⌋* written in the scroll.*

² Hear this, O elders, and give ear, all the inhabitants of the land. Has this happened in your days? Or the days of your ancestors? ³ Tell it to your children, and your children to their children, and their children to the following generation.

⁶ Because a nation has _⌊invaded_⌋* my land, strong _⌊and beyond counting_⌋.* Its teeth are the teeth of a lion, and its fangs are those of a lioness.

⁵ like the sound of chariots on the tops of the mountains, they leap about; like the sound of a flame of fire devouring stubble; like a strong army arranged in rows for battle.

¹⁰ _⌊Before them_⌋* the earth quakes; the heavens tremble; the sun and the moon grow dark, and the stars _⌊have withheld_⌋* their splendor ¹¹ And Yahweh _⌊utters_⌋* his voice before his army, because his encampment is very large; strong is the one who carries out his decree, for great is the day of Yahweh and exceedingly fearful. Who can endure it?

²⁵ I will repay you the years that the locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my mighty troops that I sent against you.

³¹ The sun will be changed to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of Yahweh.

¹⁴ Commotion, commotion in the valley of decision! For the day of Yahweh is near in the valley of decision! ¹⁵ The sun and the moon grow dark, and the stars _⌊have withheld_⌋* their splendor.

¹³ Yes, here is the one who forms the mountains, and the one who creates the wind, and the one who reveals to humans what his thoughts are, and the one who treads on the heights of the earth; Yahweh, the God of hosts, is his name!"

¹⁸ Alas, those who desire the day of Yahweh, why is this for you the day of Yahweh? It will be darkness and not light! ¹⁹ It will be as if a man fled from a lion and a bear met him; or he went into the house and leaned his hand against the wall and a snake bit him. ²⁰ Is not the day of Yahweh darkness and not light, and pitch dark with no brightness in it?

¹⁴ The great day of Yahweh draws near; it is near and coming very swiftly. The sound of the day of Yahweh is bitterness; there, a warrior cries out! ¹⁵ That day will be a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of disaster and ruination, a day of darkness and deep gloom, a day of clouds* and thick clouds,*

¹⁹ For in those days there will be tribulation of such a kind as has not happened from the beginning of the creation that God created until now, and never will happen.

¹⁸ For you have not come to something that can be touched, and to a burning fire, and to darkness, and to gloom, and to a whirlwind,

¹³ wild waves of the sea foaming up their own shameful deeds, wandering stars, for whom the deep gloom of darkness has been reserved for eternity.
