¹ And the angel of Yahweh went up from Gilgal to Bokim and said, "I brought you up from Egypt, and I brought you to the land that I had promised to your ancestors.* I said, 'I will never break my covenant with you.

¹⁵ And Yahweh, the God of their ancestors,* had repeatedly and persistently sent to them by the hand of his messengers, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place. ¹⁶ But they were mocking the messengers of God and despising his words and scoffing at his prophets until the wrath of Yahweh rose against his people until there was no remedy.

³³ You are righteous in everything that has come on us, for you dealt faithfully, and we have acted wickedly.

³ If he wants to contend with him, he cannot answer him one time in a thousand.

⁶ and that he would tell you the secrets of wisdom, for _⌊insight has many sides_⌋.* And know that God _⌊on your behalf_⌋* has forgotten _⌊some of_⌋* your guilt.

¹⁰ "Therefore, listen to me, _⌊people who have sense_⌋:* far be it from God _⌊that he should commit wickedness_⌋* and that Shaddai _⌊should do wrong_⌋.*

¹² What's more, God truly does not act wickedly, and Shaddai does not pervert justice.

³² teach me yourself _⌊what I cannot see_⌋;* if I have done wrong, I will not repeat it'?

¹⁴ _⌊How much less_⌋* when you say that you do not see him, that the case is _⌊before him_⌋,* and you are waiting for him!

³ I will bring my knowledge from far away, and I will ascribe righteousness to my maker,

⁸ "And if they are tied up with fetters, if they are caught in the cords of misery, ⁹ then* he declares their work to them, and their transgressions, that they are behaving arrogantly. ¹⁰ So* he opens their ear to the discipline, and he commands that they return from mischief. ¹¹ If they listen and serve him, they complete their days in prosperity and their years in pleasantness. ¹² But* if they do not listen, they perish by the sword, and they pass away without knowledge. ¹³ And the godless of heart cherish anger; they do not cry for help when he binds them.

²³ As for Shaddai, we cannot attain him; he is exalted in power, and he does not oppress justice and abundant righteousness.

¹² Blessed is the man, O Yah, whom you instruct and teach from your law,

⁷⁵ I know, O Yahweh, that your judgments are right, and that in faithfulness you afflicted me.

²⁸ What my heart sought, I did not find. Although I found one righteous man among one thousand, I did not find one upright woman among all these.

¹ The Spirit of the Lord Yahweh is upon me, because Yahweh has anointed me, he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up _⌊the brokenhearted_⌋,* to _⌊proclaim_⌋* release to the captives and liberation to those who are bound, ² to _⌊proclaim_⌋* the year of Yahweh's favor, and our God's day of vengeance, to comfort all those in mourning, ³ to _⌊give_⌋* for those in mourning in Zion, to give them a head wrap instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, a garment of praise instead of a faint spirit. And _⌊they will be called_⌋* oaks of righteousness, the planting of Yahweh, to show his glory.

²² The loyal love of Yahweh does not cease; his compassions do not come to an end. ²³ They are new in the morning, great is your faithfulness.

³² For even though he causes grief he has compassion according to the greatness of his royal love.

³⁹ Why should any living person complain about his sin? ⁴⁰ Let us test and examine our ways; let us return to Yahweh. ⁴¹ Let us lift up our hearts with our hands to God in the heavens.

²⁵ "Yet* you say, 'The way of the Lord is not fair!' Listen, now, house of Israel, is my way not fair? Is it not your ways that are not fair? ²⁶ When the righteous turns from his righteousness, and he does injustice, then* he will die because of them; because of his injustice that he did he will die! ²⁷ And when the wicked turns from his wickedness that he did and he does justice and righteousness, _⌊he will preserve his life_⌋.* ²⁸ And if he sees and he returns from all of his transgressions that he did, surely he will live; he will not die!

¹⁴ So Yahweh has kept watch over the* calamity, and now he has brought it upon us. Indeed, Yahweh our God is righteous concerning all his works* that he has done, but we have not listened to his voice.

¹³ And Haggai the messenger of Yahweh spoke to the people with the message of Yahweh, saying, " 'I am with you' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh."

⁷ For the lips of the priest should guard knowledge, and they should seek instruction* from his mouth, for he is the messenger of Yahweh of hosts.

¹ "Look! I am going to send my messenger,* and he will prepare* the way _⌊before me_⌋.* And the Lord whom you are seeking will come suddenly to his temple, and the messenger of the covenant, in whom you are taking pleasure—look!—he is about to come," says Yahweh of hosts.

³⁰ So Philip ran up to it* and* heard him reading aloud Isaiah the prophet and said, "So then, do you understand what you are reading?"

¹³ Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Therefore, inasmuch as I am apostle to the Gentiles, I promote my ministry,

³⁰ Because of this, many are weak and sick among you, and quite a few _⌊have died_⌋*. ³¹ But if we were evaluating ourselves, we would not be judged. ³² But if we* are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined, in order that we will not be condemned with the world.

²⁰ Therefore we are ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as if* God were imploring you through us. We beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

⁵ And have you completely forgotten the exhortation which instructs you as sons?
"My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, or give up when you are corrected by him. ⁶ For the Lord disciplines the one whom he loves, and punishes every son whom he accepts."* ⁷ Endure it for discipline. God is dealing with you as sons. For what son is there whom a father does not discipline? ⁸ But if you are without discipline, in which all legitimate sons* have become participants, then you are illegitimate and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore, we have had _⌊our earthly fathers_⌋* who disciplined us, and we respected them. Will we not much rather subject ourselves to the Father of spirits and live? ¹⁰ For they disciplined us for a few days according to what seemed appropriate to them, but he does so for our benefit, in order that we can have a share in his holiness. ¹¹ Now all discipline seems for the moment not to be joyful but painful, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness for those who are trained by it. ¹² Therefore strengthen your slackened hands and your weakened knees,
