²⁸ Because of this the earth will mourn, and the heavens above will become dark. Because I have spoken, I have planned, and I have not relented, and I will not turn back from it."

²¹ "Because of the wound of the daughter of my people I am broken down, I mourn, horror has seized me.

¹¹ _⌊Therefore_⌋* thus says Yahweh, "I am about to bring on them disaster from which they will not be able to escape. Though they cry out to me, yet I will not listen to them.

⁴ _⌊How long_⌋* will the land mourn, and the vegetation of every field dry up, because of the wickedness of those who live in it? The animals and the birds* are swept away, because they have said, "He does not see our future."

²² Let a cry for help be heard from their houses when you suddenly bring upon them the raiding band, for they have dug a pit to catch me, and they have fixed secretly a trap for my feet.

⁹ Her gates have sunk into the earth; he has ruined and broken her bars, her kings and its princes are among the nations; there is no more law.* Also, her prophets have not found a revelation from Yahweh.

⁸ Now their appearance is blacker than soot, they are not recognized in the streets; their skin has shriveled on their bones, it has become dry like wood. ⁹ Happier were the victims of the sword than the victims of famine; they have pined away, very hungry for the crops of my field.

¹⁰ Our skin is hot like an oven because of the scorching famine.

³ Therefore the land mourns, and all those living in it languish with the animals of the field, and the birds of the heaven, and even the fish of the sea are being swept away.

¹⁰ The field is destroyed; the earth mourns because the grain is destroyed, the new wine dries up, the olive oil languishes.

⁶ _⌊From before them_⌋* nations writhe, all faces _⌊turn pale_⌋.*

¹³ 'Thus, just as I* called and they would not hear, so they will call and I will not hear,' says Yahweh of hosts.
