¹⁹ By the sweat of your brow* you shall eat bread, until your return to the ground. For from it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return."

⁷ when* Yahweh God formed the man* of dust from the ground, and he blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

²⁷ Then Abraham answered and said, "Look, please, I was bold to speak to my Lord, but I am dust and ashes.

⁴ "I am a stranger and an alien among you; give to me _⌊my own burial site_⌋* among you so that I may bury my dead from before me."

²¹ Then* he said, "Naked I came out from my mother's womb, and naked I will return there. Yahweh gives, and Yahweh takes. Let Yahweh's name be blessed."

¹³ If I hope for Sheol as my house, if I spread my couch in the darkness, ¹⁴ if I call to the pit, 'You are my father,' to the maggot, 'You are my mother or* my sister,' ¹⁵ where* then is my hope? And _⌊who will see my hope_⌋?* ¹⁶ Will they go down to the bars of Sheol? Or shall we descend together into the dust?"

²⁶ And after my skin has been thus destroyed, but* from* my flesh I will see God,

²⁶ They lie down together in the dust, and maggots cover them.

¹⁵ all flesh would perish together, and humankind would return to dust.

¹⁵ My strength is dry like a potsherd, and my tongue is sticking to my jaws; and you have placed me in the dust of death.

²⁹ All the _⌊healthy ones_⌋* of the earth will eat and worship. Before him all of those descending into the dust will kneel, even he who cannot keep his soul alive.

³ You return man to the dust, _⌊saying_⌋,* "Return, O sons of man."

¹⁴ For he knows our frame.* He remembers that we are dust.

²⁹ You hide your face, they are terrified. You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.

¹⁶ Whoever wanders from the way of understanding, in the assembly of the dead* he will rest.

³ What does a person gain in all his toil with which he toils under the sun?

¹³ I applied my mind to seek and to search by wisdom all that is done under the heavens.* It is a grievous task God has given to _⌊humans_⌋.*

²⁰ Both go to one place—both came from dust and both return to dust.

¹⁵ Just as he came from his mother's womb naked, _⌊he will depart_⌋* just as he came; he will take nothing with him for his toil.

⁷ And the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the breath returns to God who gave it.

² And many from those sleeping _⌊in the dusty ground_⌋* will awake, some to _⌊everlasting life_⌋* and some to disgrace and _⌊everlasting contempt_⌋.*

¹² Because of this, just as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death spread to all people because all sinned. ¹³ For until the law, sin was in the world, but sin is not charged to one's account when there* is no law. ¹⁴ But death reigned from Adam until Moses even over those who did not sin in the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of the one who is to come. ¹⁵ _⌊But the gift is not like the trespass_⌋*, for if by the trespass of the one, the many died, by much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, multiply to the many. ¹⁶ And the gift is not as through the one who sinned, for on the one hand, judgment from the one sin led to condemnation, but the gift, from many trespasses, led to justification. ¹⁷ For if by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through the one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ Consequently therefore, as through one trespass came condemnation to all people, so also through one righteous deed came justification of life to all people. ¹⁹ For just as through the disobedience of the one man, the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one, the many will be made righteous. ²⁰ Now the law came in as a side issue, in order that the trespass could increase, but where sin increased, grace was present in greater abundance, ²¹ so that just as sin reigned in death, so also grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

²¹ For since through a man came death, also through a man came the resurrection of the dead. ²² For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.

²⁸ The one who steals must steal no longer, but instead must labor, working with his own hands what is good, so that he may have something to share with the one who has need.

⁹ For you remember, brothers, our labor and hardship: working by night and day in order not to be a burden to any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.

¹⁰ For even when we were with you, we used to command this to you: that if anyone does not want to work, neither should he eat.
