And the stone on the mouth of the well was large. ³ And when all the flocks were gathered there, they rolled away the stone from the mouth of the well. And they watered the sheep and returned the stone upon the mouth of the well to its place. ⁴ And Jacob said to them, "My brothers, where are you from?" And they said, "We are from Haran." ⁵ And he said to them, "Do you know Laban, son of Nahor?" And they said, "We know him." ⁶ And he said to them, "_⌊Is he well_⌋?"* And they said, "He is well. Now look, Rachel his daughter is coming with the sheep." ⁷ And he said, "Look, it is still _⌊broad daylight_⌋;* it is not the time for the livestock to be gathered. Give water to the sheep and go, pasture them." ⁸ And they said, "We are not able, until all the flocks are gathered. Then the stone is rolled away from the mouth of the well, and we water the sheep." ⁹ While he was speaking with them, Rachel came with the sheep which belonged to her father, for she was pasturing them. ¹⁰ And it happened that, when Jacob saw Rachel, the daughter of Laban, his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban, his mother's brother, Jacob drew near and rolled away the stone from the mouth of the well and watered the sheep of Laban, his mother's brother. ¹¹ And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice and wept. ¹² And Jacob told Rachel that he was the relative of her father, and that he was the son of Rebekah. And she ran and told her father. ¹³ And it happened that when Laban heard the message about Jacob, the son of his sister, he ran to meet him. And he embraced him and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things. ¹⁴ And Laban said to him, "Surely you are my flesh and my bone!" And he stayed with him a month. ¹⁵ Then Laban said to Jacob, "Just because you are my brother should you work for me for nothing? Tell me what your wage should be." ¹⁶ Now Laban had two daughters. The name of the older was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. ¹⁷ Now the eyes of Leah were dull, but Rachel was beautiful in form and appearance. ¹⁸ And Jacob loved Rachel and said, "I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter." ¹⁹ Then Laban said, "Better that I give her to you than I give her to another man. Stay with me." ²⁰ And Jacob worked for Rachel seven years, but they were as a few days in his eyes because he loved her. ²¹ And Jacob said to Laban, "Give me my wife, that I may go in to her, for _⌊my time_⌋* is completed." ²² So Laban gathered all the men of the place and prepared a feast. ²³ And it happened that in the evening he took Leah his daughter and brought her to him, and he went in to her. ²⁴ And Laban gave Zilpah his female servant to her, to Leah his daughter as a female servant. ²⁵ And it happened that in the morning, behold, it was Leah! And he served with him yet another seven years. ³¹ When Yahweh saw that Leah was unloved he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. ³² Then Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, and she called his name Reuben, for she said, "Because Yahweh has noticed my misery, that I am unloved. Now my husband will love me." ³³ And she conceived again and gave birth to a son. And she said, "It is because Yahweh has heard that I am unloved that he gave me this son also." And she called his name Simeon. ³⁴ And she conceived again and gave birth to a son. Then she said, "Now this time my husband will be joined to me, for I have borne him three sons." Therefore, she called his name Levi. ³⁵ And she conceived again and gave birth to a son. And she said, "This time I will praise Yahweh." Therefore she called his name Judah. And she ceased bearing children.

²⁰ And it happened that after these things, it was told to Abraham, "Look, Milcah has also borne children to your brother Nahor: ²¹ Uz his firstborn and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram, ²² and Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel." ²³ (Now, Bethuel fathered Rebekah). These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, the brother of Abraham.

¹⁰ And the servant took ten camels from his master's camels, and he went with all kinds of his master's good things in his hand. And he arose and went to Aram-Naharaim, to the city of Nahor.

²⁰ And Isaac was _⌊forty years old_⌋* when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean of Paddan-Aram, the sister of Laban the Aramean, as his wife.

⁵ Then Isaac sent Jacob away, and he went to Paddan-Aram, to Laban the son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, the mother of Jacob and Esau. ⁶ Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-Aram, to take for himself a wife from there, and* he blessed him and instructed him, saying, "You must not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan," ⁷ and that Jacob listened to his father and to his mother and went to Paddan-Aram.

⁷ And he lifted up his oracle and said,
"From Aram Balak lead me, from the mountains of the east the king of Moab, 'Go for me, curse Jacob, and go, denounce Israel.'

³ And whenever Israel sowed seed, the Midianites,* Amalekites,* and the people of the east would come up against them.

³³ Then all the Midianites,* Amalekites,* and the people of the east gathered together and crossed the Jordan; and they camped in the valley of Jezreel.

¹² Now the Midianites,* Amalekites,* and all the people of the east were lying in the valley, like a great multitude of locusts; their camels were without number, as numerous as the sand that is on the shore of the sea.

¹⁰ Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their armies with them, about fifteen thousand men remained from the entire army* of the people of the east; those that fell in battle were one hundred and twenty thousand _⌊swordsmen_⌋.*

³⁰ The wisdom of Solomon was greater than the wisdom of all the people* of the east and more than all the wisdom of Egypt.

³² I will run the way of your commands, for you will enlarge my heart.*

⁶⁰ I hurry and do not delay to heed your commands.

⁷ Go—eat your food with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart! For God already has approved your deeds.

¹² Jacob fled to the open field of Aram,* and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he watched over sheep.

¹¹ And he made the camels kneel outside the city at the well of water, at the time of evening, toward the time the women went out to draw water.

¹³ Behold, I am standing by the spring of water, and the daughters of the men of the city are going out to draw water.

⁶ And Jacob's well was there, so Jesus, because he had become tired from the journey, simply sat down at the well. It was about the sixth hour.

¹⁴ But whoever drinks of this water which I will give to him will never be thirsty for eternity, but the water which I will give to him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life."

¹⁷ because the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and will lead them to springs of living waters, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."*

² So he said, "Men—brothers and fathers—listen: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham while he* was in Mesopotamia, before he settled in Haran,

⁴ Then he went out from the land of the Chaldeans and* settled in Haran. And from there, after his father died, he caused him to move to this land in which you now live.

²⁴ And she said to him, "I am the daughter of Bethuel, son of Milcah, whom she bore to Nahor."

²⁹ Now Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban. And Laban ran out to the man toward the spring.

⁵³ May the God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their father* judge between us." Then Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac.

¹⁴ Then he said to him, "Go now, see _⌊if it goes well for your brothers and for the flock_⌋,* then return word to me." And he sent him from the valley of Hebron, and he arrived at Shechem.

²⁷ And _⌊he greeted them_⌋* and said, "Is your father well, the old man of whom you spoke? Is he still alive?"

⁷ And Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and he bowed, and he kissed him, and _⌊they each asked about the other's welfare_⌋,* and they came into the tent.

²² David left the baggage he had with him in the _⌊care_⌋* of the baggage keeper, ran to the battle line, and came and _⌊asked how his brothers were doing_⌋.*

⁵ So David sent ten young men, and David said to the young men, "Go up to Carmel and go to Nabal; _⌊you will greet him in my name_⌋.*

⁹ Then Joab said to Amasa, "Is it peace, O you my brother?" Then the right hand of Joab took hold of the beard of Amasa as if to kiss him.

⁹ And let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we* do not give up. ¹⁰ So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who belong to the household of faith.

¹⁶ making the most of the time because the days are evil.

³ And when all the flocks were gathered there, they rolled away the stone from the mouth of the well. And they watered the sheep and returned the stone upon the mouth of the well to its place.

¹⁴ And they said to them, "We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to a man who is uncircumcised, for that is a disgrace for us.

³² And they served him* by himself, and them by themselves, and the Egyptians who were eating with him by themselves, for Egyptians _⌊could not dine_⌋* with Hebrews, because that was a detestable thing to Egyptians.

³ And they were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?"

² And they found the stone had been rolled away from the tomb,

¹⁵ And it happened that before he had finished speaking, behold, Rebekah—who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, the brother of Abraham—came out, and her jar was on her shoulder.

²¹ And Moses agreed to stay with the man, and he gave Zipporah his daughter to Moses.

⁷ Tell me, you whom my _⌊heart_⌋* loves, where do you pasture your flock, where do your sheep lie down at the noon? _⌊For why should I be like_⌋* one who is veiled* beside the flocks of your companions? ⁸ If you do not know, O fairest among women, follow _⌊the tracks_⌋* of the flock, and pasture your little lambs* beside the tents of the shepherds.

¹⁷ And the shepherds came and drove them away, but Moses stood up and came to their rescue and watered their flock.

²⁶ Then his father Isaac said to him, "Come near and kiss me, my son."

¹³ And it happened that when Laban heard the message about Jacob, the son of his sister, he ran to meet him. And he embraced him and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.

⁴ But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell upon his neck and kissed him, and they wept.

³⁰ Then Joseph _⌊hurried away_⌋,* _⌊being overcome with emotion_⌋* toward his brother, and sought for a place to cry. Then he went into a room and wept there.

² And _⌊he wept loudly_⌋,* so that the Egyptians heard it and the household of Pharaoh heard it.

¹⁴ Then he fell upon the neck of his brother Benjamin and wept, and Benjamin wept upon his neck. ¹⁵ And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them. And afterward his brothers spoke with him.

²⁷ And Yahweh said to Aaron, "Go to the desert to meet Moses." And he went and encountered him at the mountain of God and kissed him.

¹⁶ Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you.

⁸ Then Abram said to Lot, "Please, let there not be quarreling between me and you, and between my shepherds and your shepherds, for we men are brothers.

¹⁴ When* Abram heard that his _⌊relative_⌋* was taken captive, he summoned his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen of them, and he went in pursuit up to Dan. ¹⁵ And he divided his trained men against them at night, he and his servants. And he defeated them and pursued them to Hobah, which is north of Damascus. ¹⁶ And he brought back all the possessions. And he also brought back Lot, his _⌊relative_⌋,* and his possessions, and the women and the people as well.

²⁸ Then the girl ran and reported these things to the household of her mother.

¹⁵ And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them. And afterward his brothers spoke with him.

³⁹ Then all the people crossed over the Jordan, and the king crossed and kissed Barzillai and blessed him; then he returned to his place.

⁴⁵ You did not give me a kiss, but from the time I entered, she has not stopped kissing my feet.

³⁷ And there was considerable weeping by all, and _⌊hugging_⌋* Paul, they kissed him,

⁵ Live with wisdom toward those outside, making the most of the time.

²³ And the man* said,
"_⌊She is now_⌋* bone from my bones and flesh from my flesh; _⌊she_⌋* shall be called 'Woman,' for _⌊she was taken_⌋* from man."

¹² And Jacob told Rachel that he was the relative of her father, and that he was the son of Rebekah. And she ran and told her father.

¹⁵ Then Laban said to Jacob, "Just because you are my brother should you work for me for nothing? Tell me what your wage should be."

² "_⌊Speak to_⌋* the lords of Shechem, 'What is better for you, that seventy men all from the sons of Jerub-Baal rule over you, or that one man rules over you?' Remember that I am your bone and your flesh."

¹ So all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron, and they said, "Here we are, _⌊we are your flesh and blood_⌋.*

¹² My brothers, you are my bones and you are my flesh. Why should you be the last to bring back the king?' ¹³ To Amasa you shall say: 'Are you not my bones and my flesh? _⌊May God punish me_⌋* if you are not the commander of my army before me forever, in place of Joab.'"

⁵ Do not put faith in a friend; put no trust in a close friend. Guard the doorways of your mouth from the one who lies in your lap.

³⁰ because we are members of his body.

²⁸ And he said, "Name your wage to me and I will give it."

⁷ and your father has cheated me and changed my wages ten times, but God has not allowed him to harm me.

²³ The sons of Leah: The firstborn of Jacob was Reuben. Then Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.

¹⁵ These are the sons of Leah that she bore to Jacob in Paddan-Aram, and Dinah his daughter. His sons and daughters were thirty-three persons in all.

³¹ There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife. There they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife. And there I buried Leah—

¹¹ And all of the people who were at the gate and the elders said, "We are witnesses. May Yahweh make the woman coming into your house as Rachel and as Leah, who _⌊together_⌋* built the house of Israel. May you have strength in Ephrathah and bestow a name in Bethlehem.

¹¹ And it happened that as he drew near to enter into Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, "Look now, I know that you are a woman beautiful of appearance,

¹ When Rachel saw that she could not bear children to Jacob, Rachel envied her sister. And she said to Jacob, "Give me children—if not, I will die!" ² And Jacob _⌊became angry_⌋* with Rachel. And he said, "Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?"

²² Then God remembered Rachel and listened to her, and God opened her womb.

¹⁹ And Rachel died and she was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem). ²⁰ And Jacob erected a pillar at her burial site. That is the pillar of the burial site of Rachel unto this day.

²⁴ The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.

⁶ And he left all that he had in the hand of Joseph, and _⌊he did not worry about anything_⌋* except the food that he ate. Now Joseph was _⌊well built and handsome_⌋.*

¹⁹ The sons of Rachel, Jacob's wife: Joseph and Benjamin. ²⁰ And Ephraim and Manasseh, whom Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, priest of On bore to him, were born to Joseph in the land of Egypt. ²¹ The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Beker, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard. ²² These are the sons of Rachel who were born to Jacob—fourteen persons in all.

⁷ As for me, when I came to Paddan-Aram Rachel died _⌊to my sorrow_⌋* in the land of Canaan on the way when there was still some distance to go to Ephrath. And I buried her there on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem)."

² As you go from with me _⌊today_⌋,* you will find two men near the burial site of Rachel in the territory of Benjamin at Zelzah. They will say to you, 'The female donkeys that you went to search for have been found.' Now look, your father _⌊is no longer concerned about_⌋* the female donkeys and has begun worrying about you,* saying, 'What should I do about my son?'

³⁰ Charm* is deceit and beauty* is vain;* but a woman who fears Yahweh shall be praised.

¹⁵ Thus says Yahweh, "A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation, the weeping of bitterness. Rachel is weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted because of her children, for they are no more."

¹⁸ "A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and she did not want to be comforted, because _⌊they exist no longer_⌋*."*

²⁰ And Jacob worked for Rachel seven years, but they were as a few days in his eyes because he loved her.

³⁰ Then he also went in to Rachel, and he loved Rachel more than Leah. And he served with him yet another seven years.

⁴¹ These twenty years I have been in your house. I served you fourteen years for your two daughters and six years for your flock, and you have changed my wages ten times.

¹² _⌊Make the bride price and gift as high as you like_⌋;* I will give what you say to me. But give me the girl as a wife."

¹⁶ " 'If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged and he lies with her, he surely will give her bride price _⌊to have her as his wife_⌋.* ¹⁷ If her father absolutely refuses to give her to him, he will weigh out money according to the bride price for the virgin.

¹⁴ Then David sent messengers to Ish-Bosheth the son of Saul, saying, "Give me my wife Michal whom I betrothed to myself* for a hundred foreskins of the Philistines."

² So I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and a homer of barely and a measure of wine.*

² They speak falseness _⌊to each other_⌋.* With flattering lips, with _⌊a double heart_⌋* they speak.

⁵ And I said, "Woe to me! For I am destroyed!* For I am a man _⌊of unclean lips_⌋,* and I am living among* a people _⌊of unclean lips_⌋,* for my eyes have seen the king, Yahweh of hosts!"

¹¹ Then I said, "Until when, Lord?"
And he said,
"Until the cities lie wasted without inhabitant, and houses without people, and the land is ruined and a waste,

⁶⁷ And Isaac brought her to the tent of Sarah his mother. And he took Rebekah, and she became his wife. And Isaac loved her and was comforted after the death of his mother.

²⁶ Give me my wives and my children for which I have served you, and let me go. For you yourself know my service that I have rendered to you."

⁶ Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is strong as death; passion is fierce as Sheol; its flashes are flashes of fire; it is a blazing flame. ⁷ Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away.* If a man were to give all the wealth of his house _⌊for love_⌋,* he would be utterly scorned.*

⁷ bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

¹⁴ For the love of Christ controls us, because we* have concluded this: that one died for all; as a result all died.

¹ After a while, at the time of the wheat harvest, Samson visited his wife with a _⌊young goat_⌋.* He said, "I want to go to my wife's private room." But her father would not allow him to enter.

¹⁸ Now the birth of Jesus Christ occurred in this way. His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found _⌊to be pregnant_⌋* by the Holy Spirit.

¹⁰ His father went down to the woman, and Samson prepared there a feast, as young men were accustomed to doing this. ¹¹ When they saw him, they took thirty companions, and they were with him. ¹² And Samson said to them, "Let me tell you a riddle. If you can fully explain it to me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, I will give to you thirty linen garments and thirty festal garments. ¹³ But if you are unable to explain it to me, you must give me thirty linen garments and thirty festal garments." So they said to him, "Tell your riddle; let us hear it." ¹⁴ He said to them,
"From the eater came out food, From the strong came out sweet."
But they were unable to explain the riddle for three days. ¹⁵ When it was the fourth* day, they said to Samson's wife, "Entice your husband and tell us the riddle, or we will burn you and your father's house with fire. Have you invited us to rob us?" ¹⁶ And Samson's wife wept before him, and she said, "You must hate me; you do not love me. You told the riddle to _⌊my people_⌋,* but you have not explained it to me." He said to her, "I have not explained it to my father and mother. Why should I explain it to you?" ¹⁷ She wept before him the seven days of their feast; and it happened, because she nagged him, on the seventh day he explained it to her, and she told the riddle to _⌊her people_⌋.* ¹⁸ The men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down,
"What is sweeter than honey? What is stronger than a lion?"
And he said to them,

And she sat at the entrance to Eynayim, which is on the way to Timnah, for she saw that Shelah was grown but she had not been given to him as a wife. ¹⁵ And Judah saw her and reckoned her to be a prostitute, for she had covered her face.

¹ Now* Sarai, the wife of Abram, had borne him no children. And she had a female Egyptian servant, and her name was Hagar.

⁹ When Leah saw that she had ceased bearing children, she took Zilpah her female servant and gave her to Jacob as a wife. ¹⁰ And Zilpah, the female slave of Leah, bore a son to Jacob. ¹¹ Then Leah said, "Good fortune!" And she called his name Gad. ¹² And Zilpah, Leah's female servant, bore a second son to Jacob.

Therefore she called his name Dan. ⁷ And Bilhah, Rachel's servant, conceived again and bore a second son to Jacob. ⁸ And Rachel said, "I have struggled a mighty struggle with my sister and have prevailed." And she called his name Naphtali.

²² And while Israel was living in that land Reuben went and had sexual relations with Bilhah, his father's concubine. And Israel heard about it.

So then, become a son-in-law of the king.'" ²³ And Saul's servants spoke these words _⌊to David privately_⌋.* But David said, "Is it insignificant _⌊in your sight_⌋* to become the son-in-law of the king, as I am a poor and lightly esteemed man?" ²⁴ So the servants of Saul informed him, saying, "_⌊This is what David said_⌋."* ²⁵ Then Saul said, "This is what you must say to David: '_⌊The king desires no bride price_⌋* except for a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to avenge himself on the enemies of the king.'" (Now Saul had planned to allow David to fall by the hand of the Philistines.) ²⁶ So his servants told David these words, and the matter _⌊pleased David_⌋* to become the son-in-law of the king as _⌊the specified time had not expired_⌋.* ²⁷ And David got up, and he and his men went and struck down two hundred men of the Philistines. Then David brought their foreskins, and _⌊they presented the full number_⌋* to become the king's son-in-law. Then Saul gave him Michal his daughter as his wife.

⁷ And Yahweh said, "Surely I have seen the misery of my people who are in Egypt, and I have heard their cry of distress because of their oppressors, for I know their sufferings.

² There was a certain man from Zorah, from the tribe of the Danites, and his name was Manoah; his wife was infertile and did not bear children. ³ And an angel of Yahweh appeared to the woman, and he said to her, "Behold, you are infertile and have not borne children, but you will conceive and bear a son.

³¹ And the people believed when they heard that Yahweh had attended to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* and that he had seen their misery, and they knelt down and they worshiped.

⁷ And we cried to Yahweh, the God of our ancestors,* and Yahweh heard our voice and saw our affliction and our toil and our oppression.

¹¹ She _⌊made a vow_⌋* and said: "O Yahweh of hosts, if you will look with compassion on the misery of your female servant, and will remember me, and not forget your female servant, and will give to your female servant _⌊a male child_⌋* then I will give him to Yahweh all the days of his life, and a razor will never pass over his head."*

³⁰ Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, "You have brought trouble on me, making me stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites! I am few in number! If they gather against me and attack me, I will be destroyed—I and my household!"

And they said, "There is no cult prostitute here." ²² Then he returned to Judah and said, "I could not find her. Morever, the men of the place said, 'There is no cult prostitute here.'" ²³ And Judah said, "Let her take them for herself, lest we be _⌊laughed at_⌋.* Behold, I sent this kid, but you could not find her." ²⁴ And _⌊about three months later_⌋* it was told to Judah, "Tamar your daughter-in-law has played the whore, and now, behold, she has conceived by prostitution." And she said, "Now discern* to whom these belong: the seal and cord and the staff." ²⁶ Then Judah recognized them and said, "She is more righteous than I, since I did not give her to my son Shelah." And he did not know* her again. ²⁷ And it happened that at the time she gave birth that, behold, twins were in her womb. ²⁸ And it happened that at her labor one child put out a hand. And the midwife took it and tied a crimson thread on his hand saying, "This one came out first." ²⁹ Then his hand drew back and, behold, his brother came out, and she said, "What a breach you have made for yourself!" And she called his name Perez. ³⁰ And afterward his brother who had the crimson thread on his hand came out. And his name was called Zerah.
